Hey Justin from AmericanMuscle.com here, taking a closer look at these very budget friendly intakes from SR Performance, available in black or polished fitting all 96-04 Mustang GTs. This kit completely replaces the power robbing factory airbox in your GT with everything you see here, including a reusable high flow intake filter, heat shield, lightweight aluminum 2 piece intake shield in that polished black finish, and all the couplers and hardware needed for the install. If you didn't know, cooler, denser air results in more horsepower, so with that in mind, this intake puts the filter right in the fender well, allowing for maximum cool air, especially when paired with that heat shield, that should prevent any hot engine bay air from entering the intake. Ok so we all want to know just how much power this intake is going to make, but in order to do so we do need to grab a quick baseline run from our automatic 2000 GT behind me, and then get to work installing this SR Performance intake. Removing the stock airbox and installing the new SR Performance intake is a pretty straightforward task that should only take you about an hour using basic hand tools. Keep in mind you will need to transfer the mass air housing and sensor to the new intake, because the SR Performance intake does not come with either. Even though the SR Performance intake does not require a tune, we are going to upload one of our custom 93 octane Bama tunes, in hopes of seeing some sizeable gains with this setup. This tune is going to optimize our spark timing, perfect our air/fuel ratios, and as a result we should be looking at some drastically improved throttle response. And for our automatic here we're looking for increased shift firmness, in addition to adjustable shift points. Alright, with our intake bolted up and our tune loaded, we're going to fire up our GT one more time and see how we do. So our baseline run with our automatic 2000 GT gave us 222 horsepower, and 260 ft/lbs of torque. With our cold air intake and bama combination, we put down 249 horsepower and 295 ft/lbs of torque, making for a peak gain of 27 horsepower over our baseline numbers, and gains of 35 horsepower and 54 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. Not only do we pick up more horsepower and torque using this setup, but we also improved our under the hood appearance as well, so even though this intake doesn't have a big brand name attached to it, it certainly held up its end of the bargain, and delivered some nice gains for a price that's very hard to beat. So be sure to check out an SR Performance cold air intake for your 4.6 right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Works as advertised
A little tough to install, but that expected from aftermarket parts. Looks great if you're going for a basic color scheme. I have had no issues with it.Helpful (0)

So far so good!
Install is pretty straight forward. No EGR gasket but I made my own. And had to drill out hole for throttle cable. Other than that, everything looks great, along with the quality.Helpful (0)

How much HP and TQ will I get on my 99 GT without the Bama performance tune?
around 7 to 10 HP
Does this require a tune?
Just adding a larger TB to your car will do little in performance, but enough that you should notice the change. Adding any performance item, a tune will give you the most it is capable, but it's not needed to feel it. Most times, just disconnecting your battery for five minutes will let the computer drop it's programming of how the car was driven before. Once you reconnect the battery and drive it a few days, it will relearn the new stuff added. You will notice the gain once the computer relearns. Things like cold air intakes, etc will just add to that. You just want to be sure nothing is blocking all that air getting into the engine.
which throttle body which throttle body would be better? the SR Performance 70mm or 75mm throttle body?
If you plan on going forced induction then go 75mm but if not go 70mm. Too much air can cause power loss.
what type of power gains (without bamma tuner) I have a 98 gt 5 speed . Ok you guys installed these parts but that was with a bamma tune and it clearly says you do not need a custom tune forvthem, I understand it was for best results but without the tuner involved how much power could we expect just simply bolting on those 3 parts . I.e have exhaust but that's it .. thanks in advance
Less than but maybe 20
do i need to get the spacer? and what is the stock tb in musatng?2002gt justt wandering with oll that reading got a little confuse.....thanks in advance any advise will be apreciated.
No you don't need the spacer. I believe the stock tb is 56 mm.
Better throttle response, and <10 hp at wide open throttle. If you were to get a tune for it you would see more gains from it for sure. If you planned on doing more mods the SCT tuner would really be beneficial. I would do all your modding and then get the tune to include all the mods. So buying the CAI - SCT Tuner package last would be my suggestion. You can tell Bama tuning all the mods you have done and they will write you a tune that will get the most out of all of them. It's not cheap to mod a Mustang, just take it one step at a time, and have fun!
Unfortunately, we would not be able to confirm fitment of this part on a Mercury Grand Marquis; We can only guarantee fitment on Mustangs, we apologize.
The Bama Tuner would be a better choice. You get 3 tunes that are custom for your car and mods. And if you go with this intake at a later date they will adjust you tune so you get the most out of it. Plug and Play Power!
Unfortunately the SR Performance 70mm Throttle Body is not certified and approved by the California Air Resource Board meaning this Throttle Body will be illegal for use upon highway/road in California.
This throttle body will not pass California smog regulations.
Hello! A tuner is not required for a throttle body installation, however it will definitely add more power and make the throttle body run a little more efficiently.
The SR Performance Black Cold Air Intake is safe to use all year round as this is still tucked safely inside of the engine compartment which is secured against water (With all original body equipment installed).
Unfortunately this cold air intake is not CARB legal.
The SR Performance Upper Intake Plenum will fit your 1997 GT and yes we do ship to Canada!
With only a Cold Air Intake your best bet would be the 70mm TB. The stock TB from the factory is 65mm. With a stock engine or even mildly modded the 70mm will work the best. Going bigger than 70mm will decrease the velocity and have a negative effect on throttle response and decrease your low end and mid range acceleration. The 2 Valve heads that the engine came with do not flow all that good for a high performance application. If in the future you build your engine and super charge or turbo charge then a 75 or the BBK 78mm TB would be the way to go.
