SR Performance Cold Air Intake, 70mm Throttle Body and Intake Plenum (96-04 Mustang GT)

Hey Justin from AmericanMuscle.com here, taking a closer look at these very budget friendly intakes from SR Performance, available in black or polished fitting all 96-04 Mustang GTs. This kit completely replaces the power robbing factory airbox in your GT with everything you see here, including a reusable high flow intake filter, heat shield, lightweight aluminum 2 piece intake shield in that polished black finish, and all the couplers and hardware needed for the install. If you didn't know, cooler, denser air results in more horsepower, so with that in mind, this intake puts the filter right in the fender well, allowing for maximum cool air, especially when paired with that heat shield, that should prevent any hot engine bay air from entering the intake. Ok so we all want to know just how much power this intake is going to make, but in order to do so we do need to grab a quick baseline run from our automatic 2000 GT behind me, and then get to work installing this SR Performance intake. Removing the stock airbox and installing the new SR Performance intake is a pretty straightforward task that should only take you about an hour using basic hand tools. Keep in mind you will need to transfer the mass air housing and sensor to the new intake, because the SR Performance intake does not come with either. Even though the SR Performance intake does not require a tune, we are going to upload one of our custom 93 octane Bama tunes, in hopes of seeing some sizeable gains with this setup. This tune is going to optimize our spark timing, perfect our air/fuel ratios, and as a result we should be looking at some drastically improved throttle response. And for our automatic here we're looking for increased shift firmness, in addition to adjustable shift points. Alright, with our intake bolted up and our tune loaded, we're going to fire up our GT one more time and see how we do. So our baseline run with our automatic 2000 GT gave us 222 horsepower, and 260 ft/lbs of torque. With our cold air intake and bama combination, we put down 249 horsepower and 295 ft/lbs of torque, making for a peak gain of 27 horsepower over our baseline numbers, and gains of 35 horsepower and 54 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. Not only do we pick up more horsepower and torque using this setup, but we also improved our under the hood appearance as well, so even though this intake doesn't have a big brand name attached to it, it certainly held up its end of the bargain, and delivered some nice gains for a price that's very hard to beat.
