    Review & Installation Video

Hey Justin from AmericanMuscle.com here, taking a closer look at these very budget friendly intakes from SR Performance, available in black or polished fitting all 96-04 Mustang GTs. This kit completely replaces the power robbing factory airbox in your GT with everything you see here, including a reusable high flow intake filter, heat shield, lightweight aluminum 2 piece intake shield in that polished black finish, and all the couplers and hardware needed for the install. If you didn't know, cooler, denser air results in more horsepower, so with that in mind, this intake puts the filter right in the fender well, allowing for maximum cool air, especially when paired with that heat shield, that should prevent any hot engine bay air from entering the intake. Ok so we all want to know just how much power this intake is going to make, but in order to do so we do need to grab a quick baseline run from our automatic 2000 GT behind me, and then get to work installing this SR Performance intake. Removing the stock airbox and installing the new SR Performance intake is a pretty straightforward task that should only take you about an hour using basic hand tools. Keep in mind you will need to transfer the mass air housing and sensor to the new intake, because the SR Performance intake does not come with either. Even though the SR Performance intake does not require a tune, we are going to upload one of our custom 93 octane Bama tunes, in hopes of seeing some sizeable gains with this setup. This tune is going to optimize our spark timing, perfect our air/fuel ratios, and as a result we should be looking at some drastically improved throttle response. And for our automatic here we're looking for increased shift firmness, in addition to adjustable shift points. Alright, with our intake bolted up and our tune loaded, we're going to fire up our GT one more time and see how we do. So our baseline run with our automatic 2000 GT gave us 222 horsepower, and 260 ft/lbs of torque. With our cold air intake and bama combination, we put down 249 horsepower and 295 ft/lbs of torque, making for a peak gain of 27 horsepower over our baseline numbers, and gains of 35 horsepower and 54 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. Not only do we pick up more horsepower and torque using this setup, but we also improved our under the hood appearance as well, so even though this intake doesn't have a big brand name attached to it, it certainly held up its end of the bargain, and delivered some nice gains for a price that's very hard to beat. So be sure to check out an SR Performance cold air intake for your 4.6 right here at AmericanMuscle.com

More Horsepower And Torque. Replace that restrictive stock intake, throttle body and upper intake plenum with a SR Performance Combo Kit from AmericanMuscle for more horsepower and torque. This combo kit will greatly improve your engines incoming airflow path to produce more useable power and to increase throttle response.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Throttle Body, Cold Air Intake and Upper Plenum Combo Kits on the market today for the Ford Mustang this SR Performance Combo Kit does not require a computer re-tune. The engineers at SR Performance really did their homework to improve your Pony's power using the stock tune.

70MM Bore. Your 4.6L's stock throttle body is a restrictive 56mm, choking off airflow and keeping your Mustang from giving you everything it has. But this SR Performance throttle body and matching  Upper Intake Plenum features a generous, free flowing 70mm single bore design for significantly more air to feed the fire under your hood.

Reusable Filter. SR Performance designed their Cold Air Intakes with a reusable high flow cotton air filter. So no there is no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money, and go!

Easy Bolt-On Installation. This SR Performance Intake Combo Kit is designed to be a straight forward install with just basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for a simple 2 hour installation.

Application. This SR Performance 70mm Throttle Body with Cold Air Intake and Upper Intake Plenum is specifically designed to fit the 1996 to 2004 GT Mustangs equipped with the 4.6L V8 modular motor.

Application Note. 70mm throttle bodies work great on stock or mildly modified 4.6L Mustangs, if you already have or are planning on more aggressive modifications, you may want to consider a SR Performance 75mm throttle body kit.

        Does this require a tune?

        • Just adding a larger TB to your car will do little in performance, but enough that you should notice the change. Adding any performance item, a tune will give you the most it is capable, but it's not needed to feel it. Most times, just disconnecting your battery for five minutes will let the computer drop it's programming of how the car was driven before. Once you reconnect the battery and drive it a few days, it will relearn the new stuff added. You will notice the gain once the computer relearns. Things like cold air intakes, etc will just add to that. You just want to be sure nothing is blocking all that air getting into the engine.

which throttle body which throttle body would be better? the SR Performance 70mm or 75mm throttle body?

        • If you plan on going forced induction then go 75mm but if not go 70mm. Too much air can cause power loss.

what type of power gains (without bamma tuner) I have a 98 gt 5 speed . Ok you guys installed these parts but that was with a bamma tune and it clearly says you do not need a custom tune forvthem, I understand it was for best results but without the tuner involved how much power could we expect just simply bolting on those 3 parts . I.e have exhaust but that's it .. thanks in advance

Hi, I have a 96 GT and was wondering what the difference is between this product, the 70MM SR throttle body, and the SR 75 MM. Now obviously the latter offers better airflow to the engine, but is it a good idea to choose the 75 MM over the 70MM if I do have an updated plenum? I installed a SR cold air intake a couple of weeks and was just wondering which throttle body would be best for my GT. Thank you 2 answers

            Nice Piece

I bought this as a replacement for my factory plenum as the IAC bolts had snapped off in the plenum. Luckily, this came with brand new IAC bolts and everything fit exactly like the factory piece did. Nice exterior finish but does have some pitting on the inside. Car is not tuned and I do feel some gain in mid to high RPM on a stock car other than this, 70mm TB, and KandN filter. Would definitely recommend as a factory replacement/MINOR upgrade part.

            Works great

Love the plenum came in with a really nice finish you can't miss it under the hood. I also like that the fittings for the hoses are changeable but would be easyer if they were threaded instead of inserted had to get some vice grips and hold the angled fitting and tap the vice grip but overall car runs great and looks nice install was quick and had all the hardware.

            Great price to performance.

The construction feels really good for how inexpensive the intake was. It looks really cool the way it goes into your fender well. Fitment is pretty solid as well. It adds a little bit of sound too.

Review from SR Performance 70mm Throttle Body (96-04 GT)

            Very poor quality product

To start I absolutely love American Muscle and everything you guys do, but....as for SR performance for this throttle body is honestly the worst product that I have ever purchased for my mustang. It has poor construction, metal finish looks nothing like the picture it’s supposed to be polished aluminum but it’s actually flat, throttle body cable doesn’t fit in the hole and you have to dermal it to get it to fit. And that’s not even the worst part. The Worst part is the Throttle body position sensor assembly, it is supposed to be OEM and fit flush but ends up having a gap in between so it doesn’t work properly won’t allow your car to shift through the gears properly and give you a check engine light. Even after buying a ford motocraft TPS it ended up not working at all so I was out an extra $150 buying aftermarket then the motocraft sensor, so that was very disappointing. So for all you Automatic newedge owners out their don’t be fooled by the low price it’s a cheap product and I would not recommend buying this throttle body for your mustang! Spend the extra $100 and buy the BBK throttle body instead. I hope this helps you guys not make the same mistake as I did and avoid all the problems this product has given me. AM you are the best! but SR performance really dropped the ball on this one.

            Fit nicely

The intake is great. Easy to assemble and easy to take out. But if you are running a aftermarket throttle body, you may want to run out and grab a bigger silicon boot for the intake to throttle body one. I have a 73mm and it stretched to fit with the help of a screwdriver.

I want to use long tube headers but I will be cutting the exhaust short to exit just before the rear wheels. This process will leave me short and possibly without mufflers.
