Justin: If you're looking for a deeper, more aggressive bark out of your 2018 and newer Active Exhaust equipped GT, then adding the S-Type here from Borla would be an awesome choice. Now, in true Borla fashion, the S-Type will bring premium materials including the 304-grade stainless and the great-looking black chrome tips, all for the mid-$1,300 price point. Install with the axle-back will involve some cutting as is the case with any S550 system. So, therefore, the site will automatically not just went up to a two out of three wrenches on the old difficulty meter and call it roughly two hours or so from start to finish, but if you hang with me for a little bit, we'll show you how it's done later in the video. Now, the Borla S-Type is a system that just makes my job easier. And why do I say that? Well, because, in my opinion, it just embodies everything a muscle car exhaust should have: classic deep rumble with the perfect amount of bark. Not too loud, not too quiet, just right, right there in the middle. But now with the addition of the active exhaust on the 2018 and newer GTs, owners do have a little bit more say and just how loud or quiet they want the system to be. So, what does that mean on our wake the neighbors scale? Well, it really depends on the mode you are in. For instance, quiet mode will be as expected and barely move the needle. However, with that system or that valve fully open in track mode that signature S-Type sound really does come to life and, at that point, you're getting a solid three out of five on my one to five or one on wake the neighbor scale. Now, there will be certainly louder systems out there such as the Borla ATAK for instance, but the S-Type again is a happy medium in the old volume department. Inside the car on the other hand, things remain nice and quiet, thanks to Borla's quality and acoustic design, working in conjunction with that factory resonator which, by the way, is still in place with our sound clips. Of course, you can always replace that big old suitcase resonator with an aftermarket X or H-pipe. And at that point, you can expect the sound to change dramatically. Now, your materials are also on point here as well, which is expected from the American-made brand including 304-grade stainless steel throughout, which is going to be with your mufflers here, small amount of mandrel-bent tubing all exiting out the beautiful black chrome quad tips. Now, if you're more of a traditionalist, the S-Type will also be available in axle-back form with a standard polish tip which will actually save you a little bit of coin in the process. But what do you say we segue into the installation and honestly have two big things to tackle with this job? First and foremost that cutting and then you have to transfer all of your active exhaust components over to the new system. So, therefore, the site again we'll call this a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, a couple of hours or so to complete from start to finish depending on how fast your work. But now to get a better idea of what's gonna be needed for the job, here's that detailed walkthrough along with a quick tool breakdown.Man: Tools used for this install are a ratchet, a 10-millimeter socket, 15-millimeter socket, 10-millimeter wrench, a cordless impact tool, and a reciprocating saw.So, the first step of this install is gonna be to get your car up in the air on either a lift or some Jackson's to get some better access to your exhaust system so that you have everything right where you need it. So, let's get started. So, before we get too far into this, we wanna make sure that we have our exhaust controller unplugged so that when we remove our muffler, nothing gets pulled or tangled up when we're pulling it out of the car. So, I'm just gonna pull the tab back and disconnect the plug and move the harness out of the way. And then I'll just repeat this process on the other side of the car. So, now we wanna make the mark for our cut. We're gonna be using a slip joint clamp that's gonna be installed right here on this small straight section of pipe for the exhaust system. And basically you wanna leave as much straight material as possible so that your slip joint has all the clamping surface area that it needs. So, basically, we're gonna make our mark right here at the beginning of the bend off of this muffler. So, now I'm ready to make my cut. I'm gonna use my reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade to cut through the exhaust pipe. Wanna make sure that I don't cut through anything that is important like suspension parts or brake lines. I'm also making sure that I have my eyes and ears so that I'm fully protected. Now, that I have my cup made, I can pull the muffler back and out of the hanger. So, now I'm just gonna repeat the same exact process on the other side of the vehicle. So, now that we have our factory muffler removed from the vehicle, we have to swap over our factory valve controller over to our new muffler assembly. I'm gonna use a 10-millimeter socket. I'm also gonna need a 10-millimeter wrench. In order to transfer these over, I just unbolt them and install them onto my new center. Now, before I transfer this over, I wanna make sure that the valve on my new muffler is in the open position. If it is not, make sure that it is before you install the actuator, otherwise you can damage it. And what I'm going to do is align this pin with the slot that's in the muffler valve and then get everything bolted down. And I'm gonna reuse the factory nuts that I removed from the factory muffler to bolt down to the new muffler assembly. All right, so now that I have my valve controller swapped over to my new muffler assembly, I'm ready to install it on the car. What I'm gonna do is insert the hanger rod into the isolator bushing for the muffler, and slide the slip joint of the muffler over the cut into the exhaust pipe on the car. And I have my clamp pre-installed so that when it's all slipped together, I can tighten it down. All right, so I have my clamp pre-installed here. I'm just gonna snug that up with a 15-millimeter socket on my impact gun. I'm just gonna snug it up but not fully tighten it. I wanna wait until I have everything fully adjusted and lined up. So, once I have the muffler installed, now I can plug in my valve controller and make sure that my harness is not touching anything that's gonna get hot. Now, I'm gonna just repeat the same exact process on the other side of the car. And once again, just like on the other side, I'm gonna plug in my valve controller and route my harness away from anything that will get hot. So, once you've made sure that your tips are aligned properly with your bumper openings and making sure that nothing is going to get hot or melt, you can use your 15-millimeter socket and tighten down your clamps fully. And that's gonna wrap up this review and install of the Borla Stinger S-Type Axle-Back Exhaust with Black Chrome tips, fitting your 2018 to 2020 Mustang GT with Active Exhaust. Thanks for watching and for all things Mustang, keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.
