      Video Review & Installation

Justin: The C&L Muffler-Deleting Axle-Back that we have here will hands-down be one of the most affordable ways to crank the volume in your 2005 to 2010 GT or GT500 short of hacking your mufflers off. Now, on top of that, this kit is gonna pack a full stainless steel build throughout, along with the 4-inch tips and the really cool-looking stealthy black finish all for the mid to high $200 price point. Install's gonna be a 100% bolt-on job here, gang, meaning there's not any modification needed or any cutting or anything like that. However, since all of your work is done underneath the car, the site is gonna kick things up to a soft two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and call this one a couple of hours or so to complete from start to finish. But, as always, hang with me for a bit, and we'll walk you through that job later in the video. But since this is an exhaust review, after all, let's hit the most important thing here first and foremost, and that, of course, is sound. And to put it bluntly here, the muffler-deleting axle-back sounds mean, tons of volume, tons of pops and backfires coming down off the revs and downshifts, and just a really gnarly sounding system for the price. And perhaps one of my favorite things about this system is the fact that it maintains that nice, deep thumping tone overall. So, breaking out my patented wake the neighbors scale, I've got the C&L Muffler Delete coming in at a strong four out of five on my one to five or one to wake the neighbors. You're waking a lot of people up here with this system. And keep in mind, that's still with those factory manifolds and cats in place. Ditch those paperweights in favor of some shiny aftermarket goodies and prepare those volume levels to reach unheard-of levels.I will also say, though, prepare to hear this thing inside the car as well as anything this loud is bound to be heard a little bit. Did pick up a little boominess in the usual spots on the highway between 2,000 to 3,000 RPM. But something tells me if you're shopping for something this loud, this aggressive, a little interior noise isn't really gonna ruin your day. So how does this system get its loud and super aggressive tone? Well, it's pretty obvious, right? There are no mufflers anywhere here in the system. Essentially, you're looking at a straight pipe system. It's gonna give you all of that rough around the edges type of sound with the volume, the pops, the backfires, which I think always gets a nod of approval for me and probably a lot of you guys out there watching this video. Construction for this system is very simple as you might imagine, but it is packing surprisingly good materials for that very affordable price point. You're looking at a combination of both 409 and 304-grade stainless steel here, including the 2-1/2-inch mandrel-bent tubing all exiting out your large 4-inch tips. And, again, you can see the entire system has been finished off in that very stealthy black powder coat, including all four of your clamps. I always like to point that out. Now, if you're more of a traditionalist per se and you prefer a polished tip instead, well, you're in luck because C&L does also offer one here on the site for a very similar price point. But now what do you say we shift some gears, talk about that install as promised earlier? And, again, this is a 100% bolt-on job, guys, no cutting, no permanent modification needed. But to give you a better idea of just how things are gonna go down in the driveway or garage, feel free to check out our detailed walkthrough and tool breakdown right now.Man: Tools for this install, an electric ratchet or ratchet, a 13-millimeter socket, a 15-millimeter socket, an impact, and an exhaust hanger removal tool. We're gonna start by removing the clamps from our axle-back so we can get our new ones on. Grabbing your 15-millimeter socket, loosen up your clamp located at the muffler. Now, grabbing your 13-millimeter socket, remove the hanger from the back end of the Mustang. And there's one more 13-millimeter bolt right above the muffler itself. Remove that as well. Now, located towards the middle of your muffler, there is another hanger holding your muffler on. Take your exhaust removal tool. Now, after you get it off of that hanger there, your exhaust should pop right off. Ours is a little bit rusty. Now, repeat those steps on the other side. Now, before we place our new axle-back onto our Mustang, we're gonna go ahead and transfer our exhaust hanger onto our new tailpipes. Grab your 13-millimeter socket once again, and remove the middle exhaust hanger. Now, we're gonna place that onto our exhaust. You may have two bolts. However, we only have one. Now, grabbing a kit-provided clamp, place that onto your tailpipe, and get that onto your exhaust. Now, you can bolt up your exhaust hangers. Again, this is gonna call for your 13-millimeter socket. Grab another kit-provided clamp, place that over your exhaust tip, and place that over your tailpipe. At this time, we can go ahead and tighten down our clamps using a 15-millimeter socket. Now, repeat those steps on the driver side. And that's gonna wrap it up for our review and install of the C&L Muffler Delete Axle-Back with Black Tips, fitting your '05 to '10 GT and GT500.
