Justin: If you're looking for an axle-back that will deliver a blistering tone along with some of the finest build quality in the category, well, then you have to check out the Ford Performance by Borla Extreme Axle-Back, available for your 2018 and newer non-active exhaust equipped GT. Now, this system will pack a full 304-grade stainless steel build, along with that very aggressive tone for right around the $1,000 price point. Install is going to involve some cutting here, guys, as is the case with any S550 axle-back. So figure a solid two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and maybe a couple of hours or so to complete from start to finish. But as always, hang with me for a bit and we'll walk you through this job later in the video. But first things first, let's break down the sound clips you guys heard at the top of this video. And wow, this system certainly lives up to the Extreme name. Solid four out of five on my one to five or one to wake-the-neighbor scale. And keep in mind here, gang, this is still with the factory manifolds and factory resonator in place. Ditch those paperweights in favor of some free-flowing options and be prepared to easily peg that scale. Now inside the car, on the other hand, things remain very pleasant. Sure, you're gonna hear the system when you start beating on the car a little bit, but it's definitely not what I would refer to as drone. Overall, really, really digging the sound of the Extreme here, gives the coyote enough volume, but without being overly raspy. And believe me, that's something that's not always easy to do with this platform.Another thing I'm digging here is the build. Listen, if you're familiar with Borla, then you already know what I'm going to say, right? You're in for an extremely high-quality system from start to finish. The fitment, the materials, and so on. Now materials here, again, are that premium 304-grade stainless steel that we did mention earlier, and this is just gonna be the best at resisting corrosion over the years. Now that 304-grade stainless makes up the 2.5-inch mandrel-bent tubing, small amount, of course, the Extreme series mufflers, and then finally exiting out the 4-inch chrome-plated quad tips. Now the site claims that this system will only fit the 2018 and newer GTs due to the quad tip design. And while yes, that is true right out of the box, if you're a 2015 through 2017 GT owner who has changed to a quad tip rear valance or diffuser, then you can run this system as well. Last but not least, guys, this system is very highly rated back on the site. So if you're like me and you always enjoy reading up on reviews before pulling the trigger, I highly suggest you head back to the site and check out some of the very favorable reviews here on the Extreme system from Ford Performance and Borla. But now as promised, let's segue into that installation, and yes, you will need to break out the Sawzall or cutting device of your choice to get everything in place. There's really no way around that here when going with an axle-back for your S550. But to give you a better idea of just how things are gonna go on your ride at home, feel free to check out our detailed walkthrough and tool breakdown right now.Man: Tools for this install: a Sawzall with a metal cutting blade, eye protection, as well as hand protection, a marker, an impact, an electric ratchet, a 15-millimeter socket, a 13-millimeter socket, and exhaust hanger tool. Now, before we get into this install, we're going to go ahead and show you a clip of how to get your axle-back section off of your exhaust, then I'll be back to show you how to get the new one on.Sara: All right. So once you have your Mustang in the air, either on the lift or jack stands, we're gonna mark our spot on the exhaust and we're gonna make our cut. Now you can take this entire exhaust off and cut it separately, but I think it's a little bit easier to cut it on the car. And it doesn't actually need to come off, so we can do it right on the car. Let's grab a Sharpie and make our mark. All right. So we're going to cut right after this 90-degree bend. You wanna make sure that you're cutting in the straight section and you wanna give yourself as much as the straight section as you can for the exhaust to clamp onto. So our mark is gonna go right at the end of the 90-degree bend and the beginning of this straight here. So right about this area. You can get a straight edge if you wanna be more precise. All right. Once our mark is made, we're grabbing our reciprocating saw and we're gonna make our cut. Try to make sure your cut is as straight as you possibly can so your exhaust can slide over the pipe nicely. All right. At this point, we're gonna remove the large muffler now that it is off the exhaust. We're going to take it out of the hanger here. If you don't wanna take it out of the hanger, you can remove the two 13-millimeter bolts that hold the higher bracket on there. We're going to use one of these higher tools to just push the posts out of the rubber hanger itself. Okay. Now we can repeat that process on the other side. Again, we're going for the end of the 90. We're gonna make a mark as straight as we can all the way around to just try to keep our cut as straight as possible. All right. Now we can grab our saw and make our cut. I don't know if I said before, but make sure you're using the proper safety equipment. And you might want to grab a friend to put a hand on the muffler as you're cutting. So go ahead and make your cut.All right. Go ahead and take your muffler out. Again, if you have a second set of hands here, it could be helpful. Just make sure you're careful as it's gonna fall as soon as it's loose.Man: Now with your stock exhaust cut, as well as your muffler and tips removed, we're gonna go ahead to make it a bit easier, remove the exhaust hanger. And this is gonna call for a 13-millimeter socket. Go ahead and take your exhaust hanger and place it onto the new Borla tip. Take one of your kit-provided clamps, place that over your stock exhaust, and start getting your new tip lined up. And go ahead and place your hanger back in its spot. Grab your 13-millimeter socket once again and get your hanger bolted in place. And grab your 15-millimeter socket, and go ahead and tighten down your clamp. And we'll go ahead and repeat that on the other side. With your clamps bolted down, that's gonna wrap it up for this review and install of the Ford Performance by Borla Extreme Axle-Back Exhaust with Chrome Tips, fitting your '18 to '21 GT without active exhaust.
