Review & Install Video

Hey everyone, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, here with my review of the Ford Racing by Borla Sport Axle-Back Exhaust system, fitting your 2015 and up Fastback GT. This is one of the two offerings from Ford Racing by Borla for your S550 GT, and this is going to be the louder option of the two, with the Ford Racing by Borla Touring being a little bit more mild. If you're looking for a louder, throaty exhaust note, then I'd say that this is the ticket right here. The straight-through sport mufflers are going to give you that sound you're looking for, without any type of interior groan. So on a scale of one to five, with five being your neighbors know every time you leave and come home, I'd give the Ford Racing by Borla Sport a three in terms of overall loudness, especially since with an axle-back, you are keeping your factory resonator. But even with that, this axle-back is really going to change the way your GT sounds, and it has a little bit of rasp in the higher RPMs. You get a nice throaty roll in the lower RPMs, and then it rolls right into a raspier sound, that luckily isn't obnoxious from inside the car either. This system does feature 2 1/2-inch stainless steel tubing, which is perfect for daily drivers or modded street cars. When it comes time for the install, I'm going to call this a two out of three wrenches on the scale, solely due to the cutting that we all know is required with the install of a 2015 axle-back. But don't let this scare you away from this system, you just need to have a fresh Sawzall blade and some eye protection, and the patience to measure out where you'll be cutting. Otherwise, a big part of that easy two rating, is the ease of working on the S550s, as well as the high quality of this system. The quality of this system makes it assemble very nicely, and it provides a great fit. The 4-inch tips exit in the stock location, making modifications to the rear bumper cover unnecessary. The axle-back should bolt up in an hour or two tops. Now obviously Ford Racing and Borla are legendary for their quality, so you can expect that as such, they're at a premium with the price point. Now, this isn't the highest price out there, but we all know that if you want a quality product, you have to pay for it, and with the sound of your Mustang being one of the most important aspects of the car, I tend to lean towards buying quality here, personally. Overall, the Ford Racing by Borla Sport Axle-Back has the ability to really wake up your S550 GT, with an aggressive tone that's only going to get louder if you decide to change out your mid-pipe somewhere down the line, and while it does have a higher price point, it's totally worth it, especially when you remember that you're getting the build and quality that comes along with names like Borla and Ford Racing. Be sure to check out a system for your S550, right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Aggressive Throaty Sound. Add an aggressive throaty exhaust note to your Coyote powered 2015-2017 Fastback GT with a Sport Axle-Back Exhaust System that features a pair of Ford Racing straight-through sport mufflers and 4" embossed chrome exhaust tips.

Borla Stainless Steel Construction. This Sport Axle-Back exhaust system is manufactured especially for Ford Racing by Borla from high quality mandrel bent 2.5" stainless steel tubing and features straight-through sport mufflers with 4.0" chromed stainless tips embossed with the Ford Racing logo. The tips exit in the stock locations so no modifications are required to the rear bumper cover.

Legendary Ford Racing Quality. When you're adding new parts to your Pony, you can't go wrong by installing parts from the folks that know it best. Ford Racing's legendary quality ensures a perfect fit and years of hassle-free use.

Cut & Clamp Installation. The installation of this Axle-Back Exhaust will require cutting and removing the stock muffler assemblies and clamping the new muffler assemblies in place. Clamps and instructions are provided.

Application. This Ford Racing by Borla Sport Axle-back Exhaust System is designed as a direct bolt on replacement for the Coyote 5.0L powered 2015-2017 GT Fastback and Convertible Mustang for both great looks and great sound.

Technical Note. The included mufflers are 49 state drive-by noise legal, not intended for use in the state of California.

Trying to decide between this and the Borla S-Type. What is the decibel level of the FPBS at WOT and the Borla S-Type at full-throttle? I basically want the one that is the louder of the two.

EricK

  • I do apologize, but we do not have the decibel levels for the Borla S Type and Ford Performance By Borla Sport Exhaust. I would recommend contacting Borla or Ford Performance directly for that information.

Is there any hp gain with these viral mufflers?

Chuck

  • Axle back exhausts mostly increase sound while horsepower gains would be on the lower end.

Would the Touring Cat-Back be louder than the Sport with the resonator still on?

PKR

  • The sport is going to be more aggressive than the touring. They are both going to be fairly loud, but the tones will be different. I suggest checking out the exhaust clips to get a better idea of what each will sound like.

Am pretty solid on purchasing the Sport package. Only question is how the exhaust sounds at lower RPMs / Normal driving inside the car. I'm wanting more tone than the stock but obviously want to hear an obvious difference at lower RPMs that justifies spending the money. Sounds like the right system listening to the videos but would like to hear from some of the other muscle heads out there. Thanks

MAJS

  • This exhaust is made by Borla who are known to have minimal drone while cruising. This muffler would be perfect for highway driving because it would be relatively quiet while cruising at low rpm but opens up a lot at higher revs.

    Great sound

What a great product from Ford Performance. I was really nervous about the overall tone and loudness of this axle back exhaust. Once I had it installed it was everything I wanted and more. I did have to add the Ford Performance x pipe because I wanted more sound at idle. If you are looking for an exhaust without drone but doesn't wake up the neighborhood then this is the system for you.

Sounds Great on my 5.0 GT. And perfect fit and finish. Didnt bolt it on . Had it welded on professional no exhaust leaks or the possibility of it falling off going down the road.

    Adjustments needed

The quality is excellent except for the hangers. One had to be adjusted slightly but one had to be heated and rebent to achieve a symmetrical appearance at the valence. Quieter than expected based on the video. Will add x-pipe to increase volume.

    Real musle car sound

Third mustang GT I have installed the Ford Racing sport mufflers, this time on a 2016 GT automatic. sound great, low rumble at start up to screaming at WOT. Quite enough to keep piece in the neighborhood and have the wife still happy to ride along , but loud enough to thrill you every time you accelerate. . excellent fit and finish

Perfect sound I was looking for!

I was looking for something that accentuated that v8 rumble without being obnoxious or annoying the neighbors, and this definitely fit the bill. I don't know if it's because Ford had a hand in this, but it just sounds very well matched to the car. Whether I'm flooring it or gently taking off, it always hits the right note. Only thing I'd say is that the catback probably sounds better, but the tradeoff there is that's louder, but this is still a very acceptable alternative. Maybe if I get the itch I'll get a separate resonator delete midpipe at some point.

    Awesome Exhaust

I started this project by first getting rid of the factory resonator and installing a Ford Racing X-Pipe. I then ordered and had the Ford Racing Borla mufflers professionally installed by Ed Hansen Exhaust here in San Diego, the best shop in the state. All I can say is WOW, what a difference it makes on my PP Stang. Getting better gas mailage and performance. The sound is awesome, sometimes I turn the audio off and open my windows just to listen. What a bad a@! sound, everyone that hears it loves it. Also American Muscle has the best prices on Mustang parts. I am a customer for life. If you want to wake your Mustang up I would not hesitate in doing this mod. It is one of the best thing that you can do for your 302, period. Mike

    So awesome for my DD

My husband watched your video on installation, bought himself a brand new saws-all (because he never misses an opportunity to add a new tool to the collection), and he was ready and waiting when UPS arrived!! It literally took less than 15 minutes to install. It's awesome! Perfect for my DD and not too loud inside the car. Enough not to disappoint at red lights.

    Another great Borla product

This borla definitely woke up my GT! I had the atak on my 13 v6 and it was a little loud for me so I decided to try sport because I feared touring edition would be to quiet. I made a great choice going with the sport although I admit I expected a little more volume but still loud enough when you want it to be. Get this if you want to get even more eyes on your mustang

    Excellent Choice

I love the sound of this exhaust, it has a nice throaty growl, but was hoping for a little more volume (my taste/opinion). I did however remedy this with the Ford Performance X-pipe (all I can say is wow!!!) I had it professionally installed (and welded, so no leaks). This is a great system and should have done something sooner.

    Great Tone, Perfect Volume

When I was looking for an exhaust system to give it a little more aggressive tone than the stock, I did quite a bit of research. I wanted something that had a deeper, more sporty tone that wasn't ear shattering. I ultimately settled on the Borla Sport Axle-Back. It is slightly louder than what you might expect yet perfect for what I wanted. When you are cruising around, it is a modest rumble that you'll enjoy significantly more over the stock exhaust. If you step on the gas and go into the higher RPMS, you get that louder aggressive sound that you would want and expect from your Mustang. There is no drone and also no raspy sound at all. I'm very pleased with this exhaust.

    GoPony Extra Galloping Sound!

After install of FP X Pipe, wife found it too quiet yet. The Borla Sport provides the right sound, not too loud for her, but how the Mustang should sound. Combined with power pack 2, noticeable change in sound, and performance. Well worth it!

    As Advertised

On time delivery. We'll packaged. Decided to just buy a sawsall...didn't want to wait until the next day for the muffler shop. Deeper tone at idle and higher revs than stock. Glad I went with Sport rather than Touring. Wife says car runs and shifts smoother.

    Great sound, fantastic looks!

These axle backs cost a bit more but you get what you pay for. The chrome tips are a bit larger than the stock tips and fill the cut out perfectly. Install was easy on one side but the other side needed a muffler shop to lift in order to manipulate the right side on to the pipe. Could not do it with just jack stands. Overall, extremely happy with the deep throaty sound, construction and appearance.
