    Hey guys, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com. I'm going to be taking a closer look at the Kooks Performance Catback for the 2011 to '14 Mustang GT and the Boss 302. Now chances are you guys are already familiar with Kooks' products, more specifically their headers, which have been around for 40-plus years and have been one of the top options for Mustang headers. Well luckily for us Mustang owners, Kooks has recently decided to apply all those years of knowledge into making exhaust systems, including this catback for the S197. So the Kooks catback system is designed to give your Coyote Mustang an aggressive muscle car tone combined with the same quality and fitment that you expect from a company like Kooks. That aggressive tone comes courtesy of two three-inch oval race mufflers that are constructed of durable stainless steel. Now that same stainless steel construction continues with three-inch manual bent tubing throughout the system, then exit through polished 304 grade four-inch tips.     I have an Stainless Work X pipe that is 3 inch on the exit, with this kit fit into that? I guess in other words is this 3 inch all the way back to the mid pipe?

    • Yes, this cat-back will work with that aftermarket midpipe.

    Can I add another component to this system to eliminate the cats? I'm looking for a system that is from the OEM headers and back. If there is a product that works, can I get that separately or does it all need to be purchased and installed at the same time?

      Mild Growl

      I recently had the flowmaster outlaw axelbacks on and wanted an exhaust that wouldn’t drone but could still be heard. The Kooks Catback Exhaust does this perfectly. No drone, louder than stock but not nearly as loud as the flowmasters. The exhaust doesn’t backfire nearly as much now but that really made no difference to me. The construction and fitment of the system was spot on and went on with no issues. Would highly recommend this kit for someone who wants a clean, loud, non droning exhaust for their mustang.

      Amazing sound that is not overwhelming

      Fantastic quality and fit. The mufflers are straight through and the tubing has zero hard bends or kinks. Went on in about two hours using jackstands but i did need to cut the stock exhaust to get it out, If you have access to a lift it should drop out no problem. The sound is amazing, no drone, no rasp just a deep throaty tone that hits hard when you lay on the throttle. It is loud enough that you know its custom but not so loud that I would feel bad driving in my neigborhood at night.

      Sweet sound without drone or bark

      My wife and I set out to find the perfect set of pipes for our convertible . "Perfect" to us was the sound of a custom Saleen setup with those nice notes and tones, no rasp, no ping, none of that rice burner buzz... BUT - we wanted a little bit more aggressive growl down low in the RPM's with solid rumble as you open the car up. Zero drone was required when the top was down. We thought stock was "ok" we just wanted to turn stock up a few notches. These pipes have it all! At idle they sound like a V8 - deep melodic rumbling... without barking - there's nothing obnoxious about them. Stop on the accelerator and you KNOW you have a custom set on - loud but nowhere near racing style... Like, you can put mom in the car and she won't complain about the noise... Deceleration was an added bonus - no pops or cracks in back - instead you get a super cool musical gurgle - it really is cool. At highway cruising speeds of 50-60 the sound is gone - as quiet as stock with the top down. If you are looking for a really sweet sound that focuses on tone and melody and not on decibels and rasp - this is a no brainer upgrade over stock. (Next to an expensive factory "tuned exhaust" option on a new 2016 Camaro or a factory "tuned exhaust" option on a 2015 Stingray - this is much deeper sounding and more musical in the resonance tones / notes... making the Chevy guys look and feel so sad)

      Fitment issue but very nice

      Very nice looking system, I had an issue with the system fitting together and had to take the over axle pipe to a shop to stretch the opening for it to fit the other supplied kooks pipe (mid pipe to over axle pipe). Otherwise it looks fantastic and sounds super aggressive, much louder than I was expecting but very very nice. No drone at highway speeds which is great.

      American Muscle Made it right

      I had a shop install my exhaust and it took them a little bit longer since the exhaust came defective from Kooks. They had to open the pipe connections to allow for them to fit up. I called American Muscle and explained the problem and they paid the extra costs the shop charged me to complete the job. This is why I continue to buy from these guys as they make it right. As for the exhaust it looks amazing and sounds great. I wanted something that made the car come alive when WOT and not make it annoying to drive daily. This is the perfect exhaust and I would advise anyone to purchase these.

      WOW! More than I could have ever asked for

      I noticed no one has really given a detailed review on these yet so I'm going to give a pretty lengthy one. First install: install is pretty straight forward if you are doing it yourself. It took me about an hour but I had a lift to put it on for the install. They fit as well if not better than the factory exhausts to it's a simple bolt on install. Quality: these exhausts seem to be a very high quality product that will last a LONG time. I just got mine so I can't really speak to it yet. Performance: When taking the factory exhausts off and swapping to these, you can tell that they are significantly lighter weight which is great. Also the piping has less "kinks" / is smoother than factory allowing air to flow less restricted. I did feel a small performance gain after install. Sound: to me, these are the PERFECT exhausts in tone and volume! They have a very deep classic muscle car tone, they don't get that obnoxious raspy note. Volume is significantly louder than stock but is not overbearing when driving and there is 0 drone on the highway. So you can enjoy the new sound when accelerating but don't have a mindnumbing noise the whole time you're cruising. I highly recommend this product, I don't think I could be happier with my purchase.

      Learning to love

      A lot quieter than I was hoping for but the tone is awesome! It's not much louder then stock but car sounds way better! I do still have factory headers and cars.

      Kooks cat backs awesome fit and sound

      The installation overall took less than an hour but getting the stock pipes off was what took the longest. The weight savings were substantial from the stock mufflers. Let's not forget the sound it produced, it's what a v8 should sound like!
