    What's up, guys? Stephanie with, and this is my review of the Magnaflow Competition Axle-Back Exhaust fitting 2015 and up EcoBoost Mustangs. The Magnaflow Competition Axle-Back is going to be a good option for the S550 EcoBoost owners out there that are looking for a deep sound and a smooth exhaust tone. I wouldn't call the system quiet, but it's not wild, either. So it's a perfect option for those of you out there looking for something that's in between. It's not a loud and raspy system but it does give a smooth sound to even the EcoBoost which helps to get the sound away from the four-cylinder turbo sound. It's still there, but it's not as import-sounding as a lot of other systems are. This is a full stainless steel axle-back and of course it's mandrel-bent. It's a two and a half inch system with four and a half inch polished stainless steel tips out back as well. The axle-back is designed to be more free flowing and it reduces a little bit of back pressure, and the mufflers are also straight-through muffler design. I always say this but stainless steel's always a great option for the cars that see all different types of road conditions because it offers great corrosion resistance. Like most aftermarket axle-backs, this one's going to open up some of the turbo noise on the EcoBoost. The exhaust has better flow and the turbo noise is going to be more noticeable with the axle-back installed. You can hear the turbo spool and you get a lot of the blow-off noise as well. Overall, this is a deep-sounding system that doesn't have a lot of raspiness and popping to it. It's got some volume to it and it gives a smooth growl. It is just an axle-back, so keep in mind that it can get even louder with a midpipe and headers. That being said, I'm going to give it a solid two or three out of five on the loudness scale for both the EcoBoost and the V6. At the end of the day, though, no matter if you love this sound or hate it, it really all depends on what you're looking for and what you like. And luckily, there are quite a few options out there. When we start to look at price, this axle-back is on the more expensive side of things. It's going to cost between $750 and $800. So it is up there with brands like Borla, but there is still the Ford Racing and Corsa offerings that are most expensive. If this is still out of your price range, there are a ton of other options for the EcoBoost. So you can always check out some of those. You are going to be looking at the typical cut-and-clamp design with the install for this axle-back since you do need to cut all S550 axle-backs. I'm going to call this a two out of three wrenches on the scale but just because of the cutting that's involved. It's nothing difficult, but I just recommend some eye protection and a fresh blade to make the cutting easier. Overall, you're looking at about two hours to get all of this done. A lift would certainly make things easier for you here. The job can be done on jack stands as well if you don't have access to a lift. Cutting the factory axle-back isn't hard. Just be sure to measure twice and plan and mark where you'll be cutting so you won't have a mistake. The new axle-back will come with a new set of clamps. And you don't have to worry about clamping the tips because they're welded on there. When you go to install your new setup, it would probably be best and easiest if you leave everything loose until you have it all lined up and then tighten it down. Overall, the Magnaflow Competition Axle-Back is a two and a half inch stainless steel axle-back that is a great option for those looking for a sound that's in the middle of the road when it comes to volume.         i'd like to buy this one for my 2015 V6 but i just wonder about the drone level.please share your ideas guys.

        • The Magnaflow Competition will have a fair amount of drone at certain RPMs. My experience with this particular muffler is that it's mostly under throttle before hitting cruising speed. It's personal preference as to what is too much or too little to each. There are reviews on this product that acknowledge the drone as present but bearable.

        Guys, is there anything special I need to know about the installation on a convertible? Specifically 2016 Ecoboost Premium Convertible.

        • This exhaust will fit all 2015-2017 Mustang EcoBoost models without any issues. This includes both fastbacks and convertibles.

        I'm looking for a low guttural sound that will fit on a 2017 EcoBoost Convertible. Convertible is the first hurdle! Any suggestions?

        • Any of the exhausts that are 2.5" tubing would fit the convertible models perfectly if you purchase a 3" exhaust, then the additional bracing would need to be modified. The exhausts that we would recommend looking into as well as this competition exhaust would be the Flowmaster American Thunders exhaust, AWE Touring exhaust, and the Borla ATAK.

        I've got the magna flow street catback. Can I just un clamp the street mufflers and clamp the competitions on or do I still need to do some cutting?

        • You will be able to swap out the mufflers, however, the mufflers may not be a bolt-on installation and may require some cutting to get these on your current set up.

            Great muscle car tone, perfect loudness

            I installed this axle-back on my 2016 Ecoboost Mustang Convertible and this exhaust looks great and sounds fantastic. I'd agree with what Stephanie says about the tone and loudness. I was very concerned that the exhaust I chose to buy would be way too loud, but the Magnaflow is a perfect amount of loudness for me. Convertibles have floor pan bracing to add rigidity to the frame due to the removal of the roof. If you have a convertible, make sure the exhaust you choose will accommodate the floor pan bracing. This exhaust fits nicely above the floor pan bracing. However, after an hour or so of driving after installation of the exhaust, the axle-back seems to have shifted slightly to lay on the bracing structures. Now when I drive over certain bumps, the system clanks/rattles a bit, hence the 3-star rating... all the bolts were torqued to the proper specification, too. I'm looking to resolve this issue by loosening said bolts and moving the elbows up slightly so the system is no longer resting on the bracing structures.

            Sounds Great! Fits Great! Easy to install

            Signature Magnaflow deep tone, Oh, man! I would expect nothing more out of a Mustang V6. It is definite the most deep growling sounded axle back in the market, I would like to upload a sound video, but trust me it just sound 10x better when you hear it in person. with the factory resonator in place it won't have any raspy poping can-banging noise and it won't wake everybody up at night but definitely loud enough to give that muscle feeling. BUT you have to deal with a noticeable DRONE at certain RPM, I can deal with it, Can you?

            Installation was pretty easy on my brothers new ecoboost, we used a saw to do the cutouts. This axle back brought the car alive! Totally worth every penny.
