Hey, guys, Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, here with my detailed review of the MBRP Race Catback Exhaust System with Y-Pipe, fitting your 2015 and up Fastback EcoBoost. Now, the Race Catback from MBRP is one of the most popular options for your EcoBoost here on the site and for a few different reasons. For starters, it's currently one of the most affordable options for your ride; it's going to offer full three-inch diameter piping from tip to tip; and finally it sounds really good despite not costing you an arm and a leg. Now, one thing I personally really enjoy about MBRP is the amount of options they give you in choosing the right system for your ride. For instance, we're looking at the full stainless steel version of the Race Catback here. It's going to cost you a little bit more but not by much. It's going to offer a full lifetime warranty from MBRP, largely in part to the full 409 grade stainless steel construction throughout that's going to do a good job of reducing any surface corrosion. In addition to that, MBRP does throw two aluminized steel versions of this exhaust at you. One's going to come with black mufflers, black tips, and black piping, and the other's going to be left in that raw aluminized steel silver color. Now, both of those options only carry a three-year warranty, but they're going to be the most affordable. Now, I did want to spend a little bit of time on tone, because obviously, this is an exhaust after all, and that's a big deciding factor. But a big question I get a lot is: How do I make my four-cylinder EcoBoost Mustang sound good? And honestly, guys, a lot of that is going to depend on what your definition of good is, but what I can tell you is that the MBRP Race is going to deliver a very enjoyable tone, deep, low tone here with practically zero rasp, minimal drone on the highway, definitely not a deal breaker, but you can hear it slightly, and overall, a very, very solid three out of five on my one to five or one to wake the neighbors scale.Again, you can hear this thing, but it's not going to be totally crazy loud. However, add in your favorite off-road or catless downpipe, and that number would go up considerably. As for the construction, guys, well, again, I did touch on this earlier, but you do have the full stainless option available to your here. That's the one I have on the table with me, 409 grade stainless. It's going to offer a little better durability over time. It's going to cost you a little bit more, but you do get that full lifetime warranty with the system. Those two aluminized steel versions, again, great systems. They're going to be a little bit more affordable, but they're only going to carry that three-year warranty, maybe not be as durable when it comes to reducing surface corrosion, but overall, still a great system. You are getting three-inch mandrel-bent tubing from tip to tip with this system, solid welds despite the price, and you are getting the race mufflers, along with the very large four-and-a-half-inch slash-cut tips, etched with the MBRP logo. You are going to be looking at a simple one out of three wrench difficulty here, guys, when it comes to the install. No cutting or permanent modification needed whatsoever. This is a direct bolt-on part that should make the install a little bit more easy on you. Now, as for tools, well, simple socket set here. You're going to need a large Allen key to tighten up these tips here, but overall, figure about an hour or two in the garage or driveway before you're making some noise. All right, guys, to wrap up the MBRP Race Catback, I do really enjoy this system for the simple fact that it sounds good; you have some options when it comes to the materials; and it's not going to cost you and arm and a leg to put it on your car. So be sure to check out more from MBRP for your EcoBoost Mustang here at AmericanMuscle.com.

I'm satisfied tho it's not crazy loud
I'm satisfied tho it's not crazy loud, I would say the exhaust note is probably the best (deep tone) out of all Ecoboost exhaust products tho it's not the loudest.Helpful (3)

I purchased this cat back exhaust after looking at all available options for catback exhausts and I have to say it really made me fall more in love with this car. It gives it a deep and aggressive tone for a 4cylinder and fits on the car perfectly.Helpful (0)

Disappointing product and customer service
First exhaust I received was clearly used and broken as the pipes were bent. I guess American Muscle was trying to give me a return? I was sent a replacement which seemed fine until I began installation. I first noticed that the exhaust I received was not what was pictured online as it came in 4 pieces instead of the 3 piece system that is shown on the website. After getting everything into place under the car and tightening all of the clamps, the exhaust would not stay in place. I tried countless times to adjust the clamps and exhaust hangers, but the pipes would fall towards the ground no matter what. I have installed exhaust systems like this many times before, and have never had fitment issues this bad. The car was not derivable as the exhaust was hanging so low (less than 2 inches from the ground). I contacted American Muscle as the replacement they sent was clearly defective as well. They refused to send a replacement or allow me to return the system and were not helpful at all. They did send replacement clamps, but only sent 2 when you need 4 so that did not help at all. They then informed me that I would have to take the car to a shop and pay someone to tell them that the system is defective in order for it to be returned, as they did not trust me when I told them that it was defective. I even sent clear pictures of the terrible fitment, and was told that it looked okay to them... Instead of paying $100 to a shop for someone to tell me what I already knew (that the exhaust was defective), I decided to pay $200 for someone to weld the exhaust into place. Welding the connections together worked, and that $200 at least made sure I didn't have to contact American Muscle customer service again. I can say that I will never purchase from this website again after this experience.Helpful (1)

Very Deep Tone
MBRP is the best exhaust for the ecoboost hands down. Not too loud at idle but it screams when you really get on it. Can't wait to get a down pipe!!Helpful (0)

Best sounding exhaust you can put on a eco boost mustang. You get what you pay for. Installation was simple, and gives the rear end a better look with these bigger tips.Helpful (0)

Not what I expected!
I just used a couple of jack stands and did the install in my folks driveway. Super easy an fit just fine on the stock hangers. The sound, well I can tell you that the videos do no justice for the difference in sound. My father was there at the time and he, like me, is an old school hotrodder. When I fired it up after the install he and I were both surprised at the deepness of it. Very impressive. Very little if any drone at cruising highway speeds. Awesome purchase for the price. Glad I made this decision!Helpful (1)

Sounds way deeper than before. You can daily drive it without catching attention unless you want to; you’d have to hit over 3k to really break necksHelpful (0)
Will this fit with a 3" Mishimoto downpipe with no additional modifications?
This exhaust will be able to work with the 3" Mishimoto downpipe.
Whats the difference between this and MBRP XP Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ Y-Pipe - Race Version? Besides the price, it seems similar...
The XP series features higher quality stainless steel.
Will this exhaust fit with a mishimoto high-flow catted downpipe 3"?
This exhaust will be compatible with the 3" Mishimoto high flow catted downpipe for the Ecoboost.
On a scale from 1-5, how much drone? I am not looking for add'l performance and no intentions of tuning my 15 ecoboost. Would the flowmaster outlaw axle back be a better choice? or spending the extra money on a full cat back better?
There is no real way to answer this question as it's not really a consistent formula across the board in regards to drone. I do know that the outlaws tend to drone more between these two products.
I saw one comment say that this exhaust has a different tone then the XP version. Can you explain? Is it’ not as deep or as loud? Thanks in advance.
This exhaust will be MBRP's race version. It will be much louder and raspier.
Most exhausts generally will pass smog in most states. However, it can depend on the state and their laws. We recommend checking with your state ordinances or a local shop to confirm.
The installer series will be constructed of aluminized steel, whereas the XP series utilizes stainless steel.
The installer series will utilize aluminized steel piping, whereas the XP series uses stainless steel piping.
The exhaust should not void the factory warranty of your vehicle. However, we recommend confirming with your dealership.
This cat-back exhaust will work great with the factory tune and should not throw a check engine light.
Unfortunately this cat-back exhaust will not fit a convertible model. However, we do offer a variety of exhausts that will fit both fastback and convertible models which can be found here: https://www.americanmuscle.com/2015-mustang-catback-exhaust.html#shop-by4. As long as they don't say fastback only, they will generally fit both models without any issues.
The MBRP Installer Series Cat-Back Exhaust is not compatible with convertible models.
This exhaust will help with getting more HP and Torque when compared to the stock system, but will not be a noticeable difference horsepower and torque wise. You would get an estimated 5 hp or so with this system.
Yes, this exhaust will fit all 15-18 EcoBoost fastback models
