I want to get this along with a catted H pipe and long tube headers. Will this make my check engine light come on without a tune and will the catted H pipe by BBK fit unto this without having to remove the resonator?

    • The Borla Stinger S-Type Cat-Back Exhaust will not cause a check engine light or require a tune. High flow cats on a catted H pipe should not set a check engine light or require a tune either, however long tube headers will require a tune for your Mustang to run properly. The resonator can still be used with the BBK Catted H pipe for long tube headers.

One of the best sounding out there.

Soon after I installed the long tubes and h-pipe, I knew I needed these. Although, I needed to get that straight piped sound out of my system. I took off the OEM cat-back and drove around for a bit with my buddy. Man is it loud but rasp is too much. Put it this way, upon startup, all my mirrors were shaking and if I revved above 3k people had to cover their ears. Very tasteless sound and would be a terrible daily. Onto the important stuff. After that little bit of afternoon fun, we got to work. OEM cat back removal: We loosened the clamps holding the resonator to the h-pipe. Then unbolted the 2 hanging mounts in the middle and then slid the OEM cat-back out towards the engine. Borla Stinger S-Type Installation: We had connected the cat-back together before going underneath the car and tightened all the clamps enough to keep it from falling apart but, enough to swivel the parts if need be. Then we slid it under the car, raised it, slid it into the rear hangars, bolted on the mid hangars that we removed earlier, and then clamped the resonator to the h-pipe. NOTE: the resonator that comes with the S-Type is directional. We had installed it the wrong way and the h-pipe didn't line up with the resonator pipes. Once we turned it around, it was okay. Startup was amazing, this is the best my 3.7 will sound. Once it's down to idle you don't really hear it but, putting around at 1-3k rpm sounds deep and throaty. Get on the throttle and it sounds amazing. The resonator really controls the rasp. But man is it loud. OH AND deceleration is my favourite. Since I drive stick, I get a lot of resonated gurgles and the occasional pop. One of the best purchases I've made so far. All in all, about 2 hours. I've put 1000km on it and I'm starting to get engine codes. The computer thinks my catalytic converters are dying but, they're just free flowing. Mind you, I have long tube headers and a catted h-pipe, so this could be part of the reason why. If you're hesitating, don't. It's worth every penny.

      Great exhaust

At 1st is actually quite deceiving because it’s so quiet inside the cabin but I let my friend drive it so I can hear it from the outside and it’s EXAXTLY what I wanted my mustang to sound like! Not too loud but loud enough to be a very pleasant sound

Stop thinking about this and buy it!

You will not regret this system! With the BBK long tubes, BBK H-Pipe, and the Borla Stinger cat back, it sounds amazing. Prior to this I had Flowmaster Outlaws. There is a huge difference. The best way to describe it is the exhaust now goes out of the back instead of the interior. The Borla S is not too loud, no drone through 80 mph any beyond, has a nice racy tone, yet still can be noticed. It’s a bit loud during cold start, however, my neighbors stopped complaining. This is a must for the V6 S550!

      Sounds Great

I have long tube BBK headers, and H-pipe with this combo these are loud. A stock 2015 GT mustang started to rev his engine next to me at a light, and I could not hear him. Some of the pipes at the ends were dented, and would have been difficult to install myself, luckily I took it to an exhaust shop and for $150 I was able to get them to fix it and install it. They are not raspy, and have nice low growl to them, with a few pops here and there.

      2016 Mustang V6

Do yourself a huge favor and install this system MUFFLER FIRST per included Borla instructions. Trust me in that it will go much, much quicker. My install took about one hour after I put my mustang on car jacks since I also wanted to replace all the rotors. The sound from this exhaust is ok but I wish it had a lower growl. Anyway, the quality of this exhaust is great and the service from American Muscle is world class.

      Very fine. Very fine indeed.

This is my second go round with aftermarket exhaust systems on my car. The first one was the Flowmaster Outlaw axle-back, which I've previously reviewed. I did a lot of research before deciding to replace the Flowmasters with these Borlas, and I can't believe how much better I like the Borlas. These give a nice deep, throaty growl to my car. Unobtrusive, but definitely noticeable. You're never going to get V8 sound from a V6, but in my opinion, this is as good as it gets. Lots of energetic pops and burbles on decel with the manual trans, and acceleration gives you snarls, growls, and good hearty bellows, like Vikings decimating their latest bounty in Valhalla. However, even with the abundance of auditory pleasings when she's going wide open, at highway speeds there is nary a whisper. I dare say they are even quieter than the stock. This is an excellent cruising system that isn't fatiguing in the least on those long road trips. Overall I am very, very pleased with the performance and sound from this package. Highly recommended.

      Turn Heads

Brief - GET THEM, they are amazing. I have had these on my S550 for 1 year now (40,000 miles, yes I drive alot) and I will say this, if you have the 3.7 V6 you absolutely must get a set of the Borla cat-backs (touring/s-type/atak). They are worth every single dollar. For those on a budget, if I had to choose between getting the s-type or $1300 of other mods I would choose these every time. How it sounds: The completely change the sound and feel of your V6. They sound amazing and high performance, not at all raspy like some old sedan with a rusty muffler. They give a deep throaty roar with just the right amount of bubble and crackle when you shift. When driving around town I noticed that when you take your foot off the gas around 2-3k rpm they make a pleasing and mean gurgling and crackling (manual transmission, don't know if they do this for auto). I've heard all 3 in person and I chose the S-type because I think it has the best note. They are just loud enough to stand out and be heard in traffic but not enrage your neighbors at night. The Touring are a lot softer and the ATAK are more loud and raspy. The finish is great (made it through 1 salty snowy winter just fine) but I felt the fit leaves something to be desired. They are simple to install, but out of the box they fit flush with the rear bumper, which is not really my style. So i spent an afternoon bending the hangers so the tips stick out just far enough that you can read the word "BORLA" on them. On the performance side of things I was completely surprised at the difference they made. These were the first performance affecting part I put on my V6 and I immediately noticed the car pulls harder, even more than that the engine was really responsive, perky, and more fun to drive. The stock exhaust must really choke the engine. Don't be shy because of the price, they are worth every dollar.

      Amazing Exhaust!

This is a must buy, not only is the power gain noticeable but it makes the exhaust almost sound like the V8. I have people and friends tell me how good the exhaust sounds all the time. The exhaust is loud but it does not drone at all which is very nice. I would definitely recommend buying this exhaust, it has made the car a whole lot more enjoyable to drive (as if it wasn't anyways).

      Disappointed with the sound

Very easy to install, about 1 hour, had the rear up on ramps. Disappointment occurred during start up. Exhaust tone is much higher than I expected. From the sound clips, i expected a deep throated sound. Instead it almost sounds like a hot rodded honda instead of an American muscle car. I would not buy these again, tempted to put my stock exhaust back on.

Great exhaust, but a tad pricey

Sounds amazing on my V6. Took a couple hours to put it on with my Dad's help. It gets loud when you want it to, but stays quiet when you're just cruising. It drones a little bit when going above 70mph on the highway, but you'll forget it's there if you're talking with a passenger or listening to the radio. The pricetag is a bit steep, but you can definitely tell that it's made out of higher quality materials than the stock exhaust. The huge upgrade in sound over stock is worth the money, imo.

      AWESOME

The sound is amazing. I do wish it was a little louder but I can make other modifications to increase the sound. Well worth the money. Easy to figure out how to install. I didn't even have it on for 3 hours and drove by a buddy from work and received a text asking if I had done the exhaust and it sounded great. I did call and ask how much to have a shop do it and they were trying to charge me two hours of work $180. I ended up doing it with my brother in about a hour and 45 because I had never installed something like this. Very easy

      Great Sound

This is probably one of, if not, the best exhaust for a V6 on the market today. Not only have I noticed an increase in power, but a great increase in tourqe as well. I have done extensive research on most of the exhaust and narrowed it down to to that give a great deeper sound, the Pypes Pro Touring and this one. This one is much more expensive than the Pypes, but for the price, it is well worth it.

The sweet music of the Stingers

I've been running these cat-backs for about a month and a half and so simply put it these should have been a factory choice by Ford. It's sound matches the exterior styling of the S550, and the visual sight of the exhaust tips fills out the back silhouette rather nicely. It took my local exhaust shop 20 minutes to install. The MPG gains will make the exhaust pay for itself in coming years(less trips to the gas station). The Stingers are not overly loud by any stretch. This is a good baseline note with my build and wanted to leave some room for louder volume with either long tube or shorty headers down the line without having a high pitch scream. No drone and they are quiet at cruising RPMs. I can feel increased torque accelerating from stand still and getting on the on ramps of interstates. This is a great buy if you want better MPG and have plans to get aftermarket headers. I will post a fellow up if I go the route of shorty headers/resonator delete h-pipe or long tube headers with catted h-pipe(mid pipe). Both should give a better low frequency rumble.

      Absolutely Perfect!!

I was torn between this and the ATAK (as I'm sure many people are). Having heard the ATAK in person, I decided to go for this and I don't regret it one bit. Absolutely beautiful exhaust note that isn't TOO loud (but can be when you want it to). If you're playing music from the stock or raxiom system under 15 volume, you will hear it inside the cabin even with windows up, so I guess it is pretty loud lol. Pretty loud on cold start as well. You will notice gains too. Nothing CRAZY, but definitely noticeable. Isn't too difficult to install if you know what you're doing. Overall I really have no complaints at all. Nice, loud note. No drone. No raspy/crackling noise like the ATAK. Nice finish. If you're still looking for a catback, you will love the stinger, 100 guaranteed.

      Amazing!

Took about 3 hours from start to finish. First hour was spent taking the old one out and putting the new one up. Ran into some issues because one of the pipes to the muffler was bent so it wouldn't fit into each other but we just took a hammer and straightened it out. After that, a big amount of time was spent to make sure they had an even gap all the way around and sat perfectly. Once we turned it on and rev'ed it up, WOW! Exceeded my expectations, definitely worth it to get the cat-back and take the time to make sure it's done right!
