    Review & Install Video

Hey, what's happening, guys? Justin with AmericanMuscle.com here, checking out these McLeod Racing 6 and 8 bolt Chromoly flywheel options available for your '96 to '14 Mustang GT. McLeod Racing, as a company, was started over 40 years ago by racers for racers. So therefore, they know what it takes to produce high-quality products that can withstand the test of time, whether it's on your bone-stock daily driver or your 3,000-horsepower dedicated drag car. Now, if you guys want to check out the full line of McLeod products here at AmericanMuscle.com, including their very popular RST and RXT dual clutch options, then be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel, if you haven't done so already. So if you guys are watching this video, then chances are you're either thinking about or in the process of upgrading your clutch, which leaves you with a couple of different options, either resurface your old factory flywheel or upgrade to a new lightweight unit like the McLeod here. Getting into the Chromoly steel versions here from McLeod, now both options again, we do have the 6 and 8 bolt available for you guys here at AM. So whether it's your T56, your 3650 T45, or NT82, chances are we have something to fit your setup. Now both options are priced about the same, both are zero-balanced, and both are SFI certified, so you can use them on your race car. Now that Chromoly steel construction is not only going to be much stronger than the factory flywheel, or even an aluminum flywheel, but it's also going to be considerably lighter than that factory flywheel. And as we all know by now, getting rid of rotational mass is never going to be a bad thing, right? I mean, the car's going to feel much more responsive, rev a little quicker, and you might even make a little bit more power compared to that heavy factory flywheel. Nothing crazy, but it's certainly worth pointing out. Installing the new Chromoly flywheel here from McLeod is something that's going to take a little time obviously because the trans needs to be dropped. But if you are doing this along with a brand new clutch, just figure about three to four hours in the garage just to get everything bolted up. And, as always, if this is something you do not feel comfortable with, don't hesitate to reach out to your local shop. So if you're looking to replace the flywheel in your late-model Mustang with something that's going to be lighter and stronger versus your factory flywheel while at the same time carrying that SFI certification, then be sure to check out both the 6 or 8 bolt options from McLeod here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Peace of Mind. When replacing or upgrading your Mustang's clutch you have two options, resurfacing your old stock flywheel, or getting a brand new flywheel. A new flywheel is a much better choice than resurfacing, as it will dictate how well your new clutch will perform, as well as how long it will last.

Chromoly Steel Construction. Manufactured from chromoly steel for extra strength, this McLeod Flywheel features a ring gear of 164 teeth, an engine balance of 0 oz, and a six bolt main pattern. Chromoly Steel flywheels are perfect for street and race applications where off the line acceleration is desired.

SFI Certified. If you're using this flywheel in high performance or racing applications, SFI Certification is critical so you can run your Pony at the track or strip. And it's great for peace of mind even in a daily driver - at higher RPMs, stock cast flywheels have been known to explode.

Application. This McLeod Flywheel fits the 1996-1998 GT, late 2001-2004 GT, and 2005-2010 GT Mustangs equipped with the 4.6L V8 engine and is the perfect companion to your new McLeod Clutch. Will not work with McLeod RST/RXT Twin Disc Clutch product line.

Technical Note. This McLeod Flywheel is designed for the GT Mustang's with a six bolt main. 2001 Mustangs with production date after 06/01 have a six bolt main.

Please Note. Romeo built engines have 6 bolt cranks and Windsor built engines have 8 bolt cranks. If the 8th character in the VIN is an "X" its a Windsor block, if the 8th character in the VIN is a "W" it is a Romeo block. There is an exception to that rule as the 2001 Bullitt Edition Mustang feature a Romeo built engine. If unsure please check with your Ford dealer to determine if you have a 6 or an 8 bolt main.

    • When pairing a clutch and flywheel we recommend staying for the same brand for both to ensure a perfect match. We do offer the Exedy Lightweight Racing Flywheel to match your clutch which I have provided a link for below. https://www.americanmuscle.com/exedy-race-flywheel-9604-6bolt.html

Can I use any clutch with this flywheel? Such as a Centerforce Duel Friction? Also, what is the weight of this flywheel. Thanks.

    • The McLeod Racing Chromoly Steel Flywheel - 6 Bolt (96-98, Late 01-10 GT) would be best used in conjunction with a McLeod clutch as the clutches and flywheels from the same manufacturer was designed for use specifically with each other. Also, the weight of the McLeod Racing Chromoly Steel Flywheel is 18lbs.

This flywheel is probably one of the most beautiful things that I've ever bolted to a car. The design and the looks are amazing. And their mom weight difference between a stock unit and this one is crazy. I've owned centerforce, act, and ram flywheels over the years with different mustangs. This is honestly the most most beautifully purpose built unit that I have ever bolted up to a crankshaft. I own four other mustangs and I assure you that I will be purchasing more from McCleod amd American Muscle.
