Improves Horsepower. This SR Performance Cold Air Intake kit completely replaces the factory air box and restrictive paper filter element in your 2005- 2009 V6 Mustang with a high flow filter assembly for a noticeable increase in horsepower and throttle response while filtering out destructive power robbing dust particles. This CAI pulls cooler denser air from inside the inner fender well to make more power that you can feel.

Reusable Filter. Included in this kit is a High Flow reusable air filter. So no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money, and go!

Polished Finish. An SR Performance Cold Air Intake not only improves horsepower and acceleration, but it also improves your Mustang's under hood appearance with a striking polished aluminum finish. Now you can have the best of both worlds, performance and style.

Simple Install. SR Performance Cold Air Intake kits are relatively easy to install with basic hand tools. No extra modifications are required for the installation. See the video below for an overview of the installation process.

Technical Note. The Mass Airflow Housing and Sensor are not included. This kit is designed to reuse the factory unit.

Works great !

Took about an hour. I had to find a couple nuts and bolts but it wasn't hard. No instructions but I used the Stack Racing online PDF to do it as this is a clone of one of their products.

Ask a Question

How much horse power do you gain with this CAI? How much horse power and will this make my new flowmaster american thunder muffler sound better?

mustanglover1

  • I can't say exactly but you'll probabely pick-up about 10+ HP. I also think it'll sound better because it can bring in better air. (If it can breathe better it'll sound better.)

Could I fit a K&N cone filter on it? I don't see a brand or anything to tell me much about this cold air intake. The price is insanely cheap compared to other cold air intakes so I am slightly skeptical. Could I place a K&N cone on it because I really like the K&N brand.

supersixer

  • This is the American Muscle brand CAI. The filter is just as good as the K&N Cold Air Kits. If you want the K&N filter, just get the K&N kit, the price of the filter, you would have to purchase separately, would make the cost savings of this kit not worth it. In any event, I would recommend getting an SCT tuner from BAMA Performance to make the most out of this or any future mod. I hope this answers your question and thanks for choosing American Muscle!

I installed the intake last night and this morning my check engine light came on. There's nothing wrong with my car, so does anyone know how to get this light to turn off?

ConnorL

  • We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues after installing this SR Performance Cold Air Intake. We would recommend checking the check engine code and seeing what the code is for and diagnosing from there.

will there be any issues passing the smog test in California for an 09 v6 mustang? also is there a big difference in performance between this cold air intake and the spectre performance cold air intake or is it mostly just brand name?

Jose

  • The SR Performance Cold Air Intake does not carry a CARB EO # and would not pass smog in California. The Spectre Performance Cold Air Intake will offer similar performance, but will carry a CARB EO #, allowing it to pass California's smog testing.

I have this SR Performance Cold Air Intake (05-09 V6) $104.99 when I install it I can start and stop the car for few times than I will get a code when I got this two years ago it work find for nine months that Sept than i get check eng light place code reader in and its telling me air is getting in some where everything it on Right and good and tight when I put the factory air box back i get No check eng light a zero codes why wont this work on my mustang 2007 4,0 eng SR Performance Chrome is the one i got just wanted to know why it wont work then I put the factory air box back on I have no problem also I've clean the MAS each time I go to install this thing I've even had a gasted made for the MAS because from what the code was telling air was getting somewhere everything was check but still get the same code P 0174 when the Factory box is back on No check eng light and No codes

07MidnightBlueMustang

  • The DTC P0174 indicates a lean condition in bank two. This means that the passenger side cylinders are running with too much air, and not enough fuel. Typically a leak in the intake tubing after the MAF sensor would cause a matching code for bank one as well as bank two, so this seems to be related to another issue. With changing back to the airbox (and lessening airflow) causing the code to disappear, it sounds like there may be an issue on the fuel side on bank 2, such as dirty injectors, or failing injectors. This could also be caused by a faulty MAF sensor, or a vacuum leak, however these are much less likely based on the information you provided.

I want to buy this CAI, it's possible I have any trouble with my car? I will need a tune in some moment?

IsaacC

  • The SR Performance Cold Air Intake is designed as a direct replacement, and will not require a tune. In some cases, an idle air reset needs to be performed. This can be done through a Ford dealer, or by disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minutes to allow the car to force itself into a relearn.

    Not exactly as advertised...

Worked fine at first but later (less than a month) gas economy went way down and I could smell gas while running. Found out ( at Ford dealership)that this needs a chip reprogram despite what is advertised. I am sure it would be fine with a re-program. It is no longer installed.

Get ready for lots of problems

This is not a very good product. Why..?? 1) No instructions at all. 2) Shield is not formed properly. I had to re-bend to get it to stop rubbing on the lines net to it. 3) The info. on AM says Tune not required. NOT TRUE. After the install my Mustang threw 7 DTC codes. The most important Lean on Bank 1 and Lean on Bank 4. So a tune IS required. 4) After the install and a short drive, I returned home and discovered the rubber mount provided to connect the snorkel end to the heat shield has busted in half. If you expect to buy and install this piece with little issues your kidding yourself. NOT RECOMMENDED.

    V6 Intake

I liked the item, looks great under the hood. It was quite easy to install, no real issues except that the assembly was missing a single screw, but thats not a big deal. The improvement was felt almost immediately, can't wait to see how it performs with the tuner.

    awesome!

quick and easy to install even though it does not have instructions, stock bolts/clamps work if the need be. 0-60/100 is way faster with this on and the reusable filter is a cool idea

    BEST BANG FOR $$$

This intake looks great and performs very well. The install was fairly easy as long as you have basic mechanics/tools. Everything bolted up fine and didn't run into any issues. If you were to ask me, id buy it again in a heart beat for a great value! Thanks from a happy AM customer.

    WORTHLESS

I bought this because it was so cheap and it claimed to not require a tune. However, my check engine light immediately began to throw lean codes. I would of bought one of the more expensive CAI with the combined package with a BAMA Tuner had I known I would have to buy a tuner anyway. Now I am going to have to buy another CAI because it has been passed 30 days since I bought the thing. I just never got around to putting it on. Very frustrating way to blow $100.

    Cold Air Intake

This part is pretty fun, fits perfectly onto the car and easy to install. Was missing a bolt but thats pretty easy to find. It looks great under the hood, and does add enough power to notice a slight difference. Overall a great part, has a nice sound during acceleration and paired with exhaust makes the car just sound a little deeper in general.

    Great CAI for the price!!

This cold air intake is one of the cheapest I've seen and for the money, the performance gains are definitely worth it! I could instantly feel the difference in throttle response and a throatier exhaust. The installation took me about an hour, I probably could have done it faster if I knew what I was doing but overall installing it was pretty easy. The only thing is, the air filter is a bit small so I bought a larger filter at the auto shop and the performance gains were even more noticeable. Great product for the price!!

    Mustang Cold Air Intake V6

You could feel the power difference almost immediately, but of course you will feel more if you buy the tuner. It was quite easy to install, except that there was one nut missing from the set. But other than that, the product was great!

    Great bang for your buck

This product is great for the money you spend for it. It was extremely easy to install. Only took about 35 min or so. It does add a pretty decent amount of gain and power to your stang. I enjoy it.

    Wonderful bang for your buck

I have no previous car experience but i wanted to upgrade my 2007 V6 mustang. I ordered the part and it got to my house in 2 days! When I opened the box there was no instructions but i just asked the support team from AM and they sent me a video. The installation was easy using only basic hand tools! It looks really cool under the hood, And sounds good while driving. You can really feel the hp increase when you start it up. I took the car for a 30 minute drive after I installed it and I did not get a check engine light which is great! Because turners are expensive. It is a great product and I will recommend it to everyone who is just starting out upgrading their mustang!!

SR Performance Cold Air Intake (05-09 V6)

I bought this Intake In mid April this year and I Installed it in my auto class in high school. The install was very easy and direct. When unboxing the intake the intake came all polished great and looking great for such a affordable price. When installing the intake I also added on a throttle body spacer along with it. The intake was running amazing for the the price, it looked great under the hood with the little bit of power gains to notice behind the wheel. Now just yesterday my mechanic wrench comes on in my car saying something was wrong then my engine light came on so I took it to the mechanic shop I always take it to sense there trustworthy and had them diagnose my mustang. It ended up was throwing codes for my MAF sensor because I'm running lean now cause its not getting correct air flow. It was not a bad buy but I will be having to invest into a tuner now even though it says you can use your original MAF sensor.

    do not buy

While the item is easy to install and looks very nice, after only a few miles my check engine light came on. I checked and everything was connected properly and secure. Also, the performance gain is hardly noticeable if at all. Very disappointed with this purchase only bad thing I bought from AM.

    Its cheap no frills

If you want a cheap cold air intake then look no further! I have to say, you really won't go wrong if you just want the look and sound of a cold air intake, however...no instructions included, it feels as cheap as it is, throws codes immediately (this needs a tune, don't kid yourself) and just generally doesn't seem super high quality, then again, it doesn't have to be so as far as its concerned, if you want to get a cold air intake and tune, get this intake so you can save for the tuner. Seriously though THIS NEEDS A TUNE.

    Decent intake but needs tuning

While it was fairly easy to install. I bought this cold air intake hoping I could attach it to my V-6 mustang without the tuner. But unfortunately the check engine light has come on and the only way to fix it, is to either re-install the stock air-box or buy the tuner. Save your cash and buy a tuner with this or any cold air intake.

    Saw no gains whatsoever

Installation was a breeze but the heat shield is rather flimsy and moved a lot. I saw no performance or gas mileage gains but rather the opposite. The intake was much warmer after driving than my stock one. I switched back to stock.
