SR Performance cold air intake (05-09 V6 Mustang)
Cold air intake was simple enough to install, didn’t come with proper instructions regardless. But the cold air intake, states there should be no time required, that is not true. After install, car idles rough and revs up to 2,000 rpms by itself. And throws engine coulds for too much air and not enough fuel in engine bank. To work, it will require a $400 tune. Would recommend not buying again.Helpful (2)

PLEASE READ FULL REVIEW.
I bought this because it was the cheapest. IT DOES REQUIRE A TUNE. READ THE LOWEST REVIEWS BECAUSE THEY ARE THE SAME EXPERIENCE THAT I HAD. IT MAD MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. MADE MY CAR SHIFT HARD. I LOST POWER WHEN I PUT THIS ON. MY CAR RUNS BETTER WITH THE STOCK INTAKEHelpful (0)

Added one of these to my Mustang----
Fits like a glove! Reasonably priced, and you can install one on the 4.0 without having to recalibrate the computer! I could feel a little difference in mine, on acceleration.Helpful (2)

ONLY REVIEW NEEDED
THIS NEEDS A TUNE. This was a birthday gift from my dad. Where do I start? Missing a screw for MAF sensor, no instructions, and to get MAF to fit had to cut tape (will not reach). Had to buy a screw at hardware store. Had to look up on line to figure out how to put it on. You have more hardware than needed for my car. Called customer service they know about needing a tune, but AM will not change description. Spent the day putting this on due to no instruction, having to go to hardware store, getting MAF to fit, test driving to find out ot needs a tune (rough idle, engine light) calling customer service to find out it needs a tune (they can't help) and then having to put factory box back on. Thanks AM all I wanted was a CAI that didn't break the bank. Now if I get one it will need a tuner.Helpful (2)

How much horse power do you gain with this CAI? How much horse power and will this make my new flowmaster american thunder muffler sound better?
I can't say exactly but you'll probabely pick-up about 10+ HP. I also think it'll sound better because it can bring in better air. (If it can breathe better it'll sound better.)
Could I fit a K&N cone filter on it? I don't see a brand or anything to tell me much about this cold air intake. The price is insanely cheap compared to other cold air intakes so I am slightly skeptical. Could I place a K&N cone on it because I really like the K&N brand.
This is the American Muscle brand CAI. The filter is just as good as the K&N Cold Air Kits. If you want the K&N filter, just get the K&N kit, the price of the filter, you would have to purchase separately, would make the cost savings of this kit not worth it. In any event, I would recommend getting an SCT tuner from BAMA Performance to make the most out of this or any future mod. I hope this answers your question and thanks for choosing American Muscle!
I purchased this item love it but never had my check engine light come on till I installed this intake but I was ok with it till I noticed the rubber part of my fliter was ripping apart I went to my local part store and was gonna replace it found it they didnt carry the size. So I had to reinstall my stock intake and next thing I knew my check engine light went off. I like to know where I can get a fliter or know the size of it to fit the intake.
Can I still use 87 octane gas with this cai are will it run lean?
You can run 87 octane fuel with this cold air intake.
I have this CAI on a 08 v6 mustang. CEL came on. Purchased Diablosport I3 tuner to get rid of to get rid of 2 lean codes. Used 93 octane tune with KN cai option(only option) light still coming on. Now I have over 500.00 bucks invested. What tune would work with this CAI?
The replacement filter part number is 41121.
We advise to gently shake off and brush away excess dirt than to spray a cleaning solution so that the filter is fully soaked and let soak for 10 minutes. Then wash the filter from the clean side to the dirty side until you see the water is clear and we advise using water from a tap or a hose.
We would need to know the code you are getting to assist you with this, as a number of things could be occurring. Please contact our customer service department so we may best assist you.
The black heat shield on the SR Performance Cold Air Intake will install to the existing air box mounting locations. Some years will require the isolator/spacer installed due to slight variances in mounting locations.
We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues after installing this SR Performance Cold Air Intake. We would recommend checking the check engine code and seeing what the code is for and diagnosing from there.
The SR Performance Cold Air Intake does not carry a CARB EO # and would not pass smog in California. The Spectre Performance Cold Air Intake will offer similar performance, but will carry a CARB EO #, allowing it to pass California's smog testing.
The DTC P0174 indicates a lean condition in bank two. This means that the passenger side cylinders are running with too much air, and not enough fuel. Typically a leak in the intake tubing after the MAF sensor would cause a matching code for bank one as well as bank two, so this seems to be related to another issue. With changing back to the airbox (and lessening airflow) causing the code to disappear, it sounds like there may be an issue on the fuel side on bank 2, such as dirty injectors, or failing injectors. This could also be caused by a faulty MAF sensor, or a vacuum leak, however these are much less likely based on the information you provided.
The SR Performance Cold Air Intake is designed as a direct replacement, and will not require a tune. In some cases, an idle air reset needs to be performed. This can be done through a Ford dealer, or by disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minutes to allow the car to force itself into a relearn.
The SR Performance Cold Air Intake filter has a 3.5 inch inlet. You can buy a replacement here: http://www.americanmuscle.com/sr-replacement-airfilter.html
You can clean this filter using a cold air filter recharge kit.
