Review & Install Video

I’m Justin with, and I’m going to be breaking down Pypes Violator Axle-back exhaust for the 2005-2010 Mustang GT. Even though the Violator uses what appears to be a traditional chambered muffler design, much like your factory exhaust or even the Magnaflow street, but instead of this muffler being filled with sound baffles, which can actually keep your sound levels down, the Violator from Pypes actually includes some sound deflectors into the muffler design, which give you a very aggressive exhaust note. Those rude sounding mufflers are constructed from thick 409 grade stainless steel, and exit out of these dual 4” polished tips, which feature a very cool rolled edge and slashed cut for a unique, quality look. Since the Violator bolts into the stock location without any modification, getting everything installed should only take you about an hour using a basic socket set. Now let’s hear how Pypes Violator series axle-back sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

Increase Performance. Bolting on a Pypes Violator Axle-Back to a stock 2005 to 2010 GT will yield an instant 5 to 10 horsepower gain! It features two Violator mufflers for Pypes ultimate in flow (and power gain) with an ultra aggressive sound!

Aggressive Sound. Pypes Axle-Back features the Violator "Rude Sound" muffler that uses an internal louvered tube with mini sound deflector chambers that result of a unique aggressive sound.

Quality Construction, OEM Fit. This Axle-Back system from Pypes is constructed from high quality 409 Stainless Steel and features 4" rolled edge, slash cut, polished 304 stainless tips that exit in the stock location for aggressive muscle car looks.

Application. The Pypes Violator Axle-Back is designed to fit the 2005-2010 GT, 2008-2009 Bullitt and 2007-2010 Shelby GT500 Mustangs.

Technical Note: Americanmuscle recommends adding the 2005+ Mustang 304 Stainless Steel Exhaust Hanger Kit from the drop down option above, to provide more strength, stability and a cleaner installed appearance. If you have a 2007 Mustang you may need the kit for correct installation.

How bad does it drone? I have an 06 GT with really quiet flowmasters on it and I was wondering how these compare to mine in volume and restricions. Mine are almost the same as stock, just a little louder. And I was wondering how bad do they drone at an idle and at highway speeds?

  • I have them on my 2005 GT, and when I got them I didnt realize I had a bad throttle body and they had terrible drone, but that was because I had a throttle body sensor failure. I got my throttle body fixed and I no longer have any drone! They may have some at first, but once they get worked in a little it will subside. Overall, I love their sound over any other pipes on the market!

Do I need the extra bracket kit for this install?

  • The Pypes Violator Axle-Back Exhaust would not require the additional exhaust hangers for installation on 2005-2010 GT and GT500's.

I really like the sound of these for my next mod but I'm not exited about the idea of loosing low end. How much low end torque is lost on a stock car with CAI/tune?

  • The amount of low end you will lose will not even be noticeable. There is not enough back pressure built up by the rear mufflers to make a big difference in power. I think this will be a great mod for your Mustang!

will this reduce backpressure/popping sound? I am using Pypes Pype Bombs and recently got an off road pipe installed and it is just WAY too loud and has that obnoxious popping sound, will this reduce that but still make it sound mean and loud

  • Yup , shure will. The pype bomb design is one that mimics the classic design of a glass pack. And that design is one that gives that popin sound. The chambered style mufflers like this one give a much deeper tone.

Will installing this exhaust require a tune? Is a tune recommended?

  • No tune would be required for an axle-back installation. Simply bolt on and enjoy!

I ordered 'em after a long thought process. Have the SCT tuner, using the 93 octane tune and JLT CAI on my '08 GT. Ordered the polished Violators. Arrived quick as is usual for AM. Not hard to install. Crawled under the car, and I didn't even need the jack stands. Ripped the Ford $h!+ off, and planted the Pypes system in about an hour. Had to lossen the clamp and slide one muffler back to make them both match. Didn't need the additional hangers. If you have any mechanical ability, this install is NOT difficult. Started her up. Not loud enough to annoy the neighbors at idle, but sounds great when you're cruising. Won't draw too much attention to you, but really makes the 'Stang feel like a proper 'Stang. When you get on it, it sounds great, and really took away that last bit of restricted flow feeling that the stock cans gave you. She feels nice and even all the way through the rev range now. I'm sure there's lots of nice axle back systems to purchase, but this one's definitely not something you'll regret, at least if you're not trying to be the loudest guy (or gal) on the block. The looks are spectacular, BTW. It's probably worth the few extra bucks for the polished ones.

I dunno what these people are talking about. these axle back system will unleash the beast in that 4.6. Shipping was not bad. I got them the same day i was leaving for vacation so i was inpatient and had a local shop throw them on instead of doing it myself. Of course they took there time doing it to get there money out of it. there is a slight drone first but now i put about twohundred miles on the system it gettin less and less. over all tremendous system for your buck. Pypes will see me coming back for all my exhaust needs.

    Awsome Vs Stock

Installed these puppies in less than an hour on my new 2010 GT. The stock hangers did just fine and everything lined up well with no problems. These are an aggressive street stock type sound and for most folks who don't want super loud you will be pleased. If you want to sound as if you just got off a race track then a muffler delete like the SLP Loudmouths are for you. I am very happy with the Pypes violaters!

    Awesome bang for the buck!

I did a lot of research before settling on the Pypes Violators for my 2010 GT. The mufflers sound GREAT, it was just what I was looking for...louder then stock, but not obnoxious. Its a smooth, classy sound. Considering the price, these mufflers provide the best bang for the buck in my opinion!

2010 GT Pypes Violator Axle-Back Exhaust

This product was an easy install, looks amazing. Had to play around with their fitment as far as the way the tips looked, but other than that the sound is pretty sexy. The best way to describe it is sick when first started, idles quiet, but beasty on the go! 5/5 Product, Will be purchasing from pypes again. Probably X pipe next.

Product is a good bang for the buck. When on a budget.

I was very excited to finally hear my Mustang roar up and down the road. Being on a budget and researching You Tube posts helped a little more. I am happy with the performance of the Pypes product, but not happy with the fitment. While the left side mounted just fine, the right side did not. If i had read just a few more of these posts i probably would not have made this purchase. I had to bend and force the right side away from the bumper cover so it would not touch. I spent alot of time manipulating its fitment, only for it to look like a "snaggle tooth" sticking out the back of my car.. Oh well, live and learn.. I guess I'll spend another $50. to $100. and take it to a muffler shop to cut up and reweld to look right.. Who ever is in charge of the welding and fitment of the right side muffler needs to be fired.. It seems like this is a common problem. So for anyone out there, just save your money and get the super expensive Flowmasters.. They seem to have a little more qualitiy built into them..

    Nice Exhaust

I ordered the Pypes Violator Axelback Exhaust for my 07' GT/CS, and they came in 3 days from AM. Had them installed at a local muffler shop. They even had a hard time getting the stock mufflers off. However, the new ones went on easy, but the passenger side needed work to line up evenly with the driver side. Even the guys at the shop were impressed with the souund. They said they installed a set of Borla's the day before and mine sounded far better. I love the sound they produce. Very little drone at highway speed. They look great as well. Would reccomend

    Negative Issue with convertible

Installed easily on my '06 GT convertible. Love the sound BUT will quantify this by saying that when touring the back roads for a day, the 'drone' or 'reverb' in the cockpit upon 'loading' the engine gets tiring real quick.. Expect it would not be so much of an issue in the hardtop models. Note: If you drive freeway, you can go all day as the sound dissipates at speeds above 65mph. Just my $.02 worth.

    Pleasantly Surprised

Ordered these on a Saturday and received them on the following Canada! Awesome job AM! Now for the exhaust... these are a great sounding kit and sound better than more expensive systems in my opinion. The hangers had to be slightly bent to centre the cutouts, but nothing major. On starting the car for the first time, I was a little bit disappointed with the sound, the drone, popping etc. and questioned my choice. However after one week of driving the tone has changed completely. No more popping, drone etc. Just a nice deep growl/roar. 2500RPM at WOT sounds sweet. Don't waste your money on an expensive set, just buy these. Don't forget to wait a week, they need to break-in to sound good.

    Holds Strong!!!

I've had these mufflers for about 2 years with a set up of long tube headers and x-pipe..after installing them at a "butcher" mechanic, I had all kinds of problems...broken gaskets, cut O2 sensors, burned cats, and a rear end accident which caused the metal hanger of the muffler to break..!!!After all this the mufflers were the only thing that kept strong!!!!Changed the whole setup and fixed the metal hanger on the mufflers!!!!the power and sound is still There!!!...bottom line is BUY THESE!!!!!!YOU GUYS WONT REGRET IT!!!!

A great item. Took less than an hour to install. Looks great and the sound is the best I have heard. I have owned Flowmasters and Magnaflows that cost twice as much and sounded half as good. A must for every GT. American Muscle is the best dealer on the market!!!

    Not too aggressive

Easy install on my 2006 GT Conv. However, the right pipe did not align properly with the bumper outlet (see third image down in the first column of provided pictures). Brick had rated the sound level as 8 vs. a 3 for stock. A more accurate level would be a 6, in my opinion. Also, Brick said to expect an aggressive growl, but it is more like a nicely enhanced stock sound.

    Decent Exhaust 06 GT

Pretty good exhaust, sounds a little louder than factory mufflers and a little meaner. Lost some bottom end torque but gained some high end power. Over lost some drivability due to loss in backpressure. Great price, decent exhaust, just figured i mention the fact that you lose a significant amout of low end torque and throttle response at low RPM's since no other review says anything about that. Have to mention that i have a SCT tuner and K&N cold air intake but doubt that has anything to do with the low end loss of power

    Happy Camper

I have a 2010 Mustang GT.. You dont need the 50 50 dollar hanger kit!!! I used the stock mounts and everything went fast and easy. They sound about the same at idol speed. Nice throaty sound when accelerating. Minor drone at 2000 prm. WOT they sound like a mustang GT sould. They are a tad shorter than the stock tips. BUt the bigger diameter makes them look mean! I had to slot the right one for the notch to fit. the notch they had was 180 degrees off. other than that the installation was simple with the car on ramps>

    Muscle car sound !

Had the SLP loudmouths, they rocked, but got the evil eye from my Checked the reviews and went with the violators, sound is a nice deep tone with a little louder roar when you stand in it. Great price and fit compared to more expensive models. Also a nice fit with my Pypes long tubes and cat-less H-pipe.
