Review & Install Video

Hey everybody, I'm Justin with and this is my quick breakdown of the Pypes Black Pype-Bomb Axle-Back Exhaust System available for your 3.7 liter 2011 through 2014 V6 Mustang. If you guys are looking for quite possibly one of the most aggressive Axle-Backs available for your 3.7 at a very affordable price, well then, the Black Pype-Bomb here should be at the top of your list. Now, as you guys just heard with our sound clips, this particular Axle-Back will totally transform your V6 in a way you never thought possible, especially with those stock cats in place. Taking a closer look at some of the details here with this Axle-Back, you will notice it's all been powder coated this very aggressive black color which, of course, will definitely give you a very unique look, but also it's going to help resist any possible corrosion down the road. Now, the entire system has been constructed from 100% stainless steel and what little piping there is with this Axle-Back has all been mandrel bent. The signature feature with any Pype-Bomb system here whether it's for your GT or your V6 has to be these absolutely massive four inch tips which do take the place of your mufflers, of course, and do give you the super aggressive tone we heard in the beginning of this video. Now, this is the time guys that I strongly encourage you to head back to the product page of so you can check out some of the detailed customer images, but more importantly, some of the detailed customer reviews to help you decide if this is the Axle-Back for you. Since this is an Axle-Back, guys, figure about an hour from start to finish on your V6 to get everything in place. Now, Axle-Backs on these cars are generally pretty straightforward and can easily be accomplished with the use of some basic hand tools. But, as always, guys, if you do have any more questions about this exhaust or about the actual install, feel free to hit up a Mustang expert any time. So if you are looking for one of the more aggressive systems available for your 3.7 V6 Mustang, then be sure to check out the Pypes Black Pype-Bomb Axle-Back Exhaust System here at

Aggressive Sound. Give your V6 Pony the aggressive sound that will get it noticed on the street or at the strip with a Pypes "Pype Bomb" axle-back. This muffler delete style axleback provides the most aggressive, free-flowing exhaust possible with your factory cats still in place - delivering more power you can feel and hear.

Resonator Tips. The engineers at Pypes designed their new muffler delete exhaust system with specially engineered 4" resonator tips that eliminate that loud annoying popping noise that other muffler delete kits can cause.

Quality Materials. Constructed from free flowing mandrel-bent 2.5" 304 stainless steel tubing, this Pypes "Pype-Bomb" axle-back exhaust features a pair of 4" resonator tips completed in a black powdercoated finish for aggressive good looks.

Application. This Pype-Bomb Axle-Back exhaust system is designed to fit 2011-2014 V6 Mustangs for show quality looks and impressive sound. This axle-back is made to be a direct bolt on to the stock location without any modifications required.

Power Increase Do you expect power/torque increase on this exhaust, if does how much? I want something that I can use for daily driving, is this exhaust obnoxiously loud that my neighbour would hate me (if envy I would just giggle in silence, but annoyance I would certainly think about it). I had an airaid CAI already and this exhaust would be my next project, so I appreciate any input so I would save regret later on.....Thanks...:))

  • I just installed these myself, while I don't have a dyno you should see about 10hp difference, as far as sound, prepare to be stared at,this thing sounds mean

I see a lot of people say in the reviews that it doesn't line up properly. What is the fix for that?

  • Our recommendation is to have some play in the exhaust system that give you the room to move the rubber hangers into their location, then torque the exhaust system on all hangers are installed. If not you have to fight the entire exhaust to install on hangers.

Are they bolt on?

  • This axle-back exhaust system is a bolt on application.

Are these legal in California and will they pass the smog test?

  • The Pypes Black Pype-Bomb Axle-Back Exhaust is installed after any of the emissions equipment, so this will have no effect on smog testing. These are considered a 50 state legal part, however depending on your other modifications, it is possible to have these produce more exhaust volume than your area allows.

I have a 2011 V6 convertible, and I took it to a local exhaust shop. He removed the xpipe and resonators and it now produces a tinnier sound. Will this a) be legal in NH if I buy the pypes bomb and b) will this create a deeper rather than much louder sound? Has anyone else here installed this on v6 convertible?

  • As far as sound and tone go, the Pypes Black Pype-Bomb Axle-Back Exhaust will give you more of a deeper growling sound. It will be a bit louder but certainly a deeper tone, so if that is what you are looking for I would certainly recommend this axle back. As far a legality measures go, I would check with your local authorities to verify if there are any sound ordinances to be aware of so you do no receive some kind of ticket or fine running this exhaust on your mustang.

    Fitment is horrible

I got this and tried to install it myself. I was choosing betwern this and roush, but since im just 18 yr old and my car is v6 I just thought I should go with cheaper one. I regret it now. Hardest part was uninstalling stock exhaust. It took me forever to get the one side out so I ran up to Autozone and got penetrating PB oil thing. It made job much easier so I would recommend using it when install/uninstalling. I worked on the passeenger side first. It went in fine. When I tried to do the driver side, pipe wouldnt even fit. So I had to drive to muffler shop with only one exhaust like a handicap and mechanic said he had to cut out the top two arms because they wouldnt go in the hanger. It should be little shorter or they need to fix angle; Pypes made this product really weird awkwardly. Left side was just messed up. I guess you get what you pay for. Guy had to cut off and it is only supported by the hanger on the side. I had to pay additional $75 for this mess when I could've done it myself if it was made correctly in the first place. So when you order this, expect the left side to be up. There is nothing you can do about it until they dicide to make the item right. Overall, sound is just bearable. I was driving the other day by the mall and there was souped up Honda. I thought I sounded similar to him so I was embarassed haha. Tone is not really that aggressive or favorable. Most of the time I just feel like I ruined the car. I will change this and go with roush in the future.

    Sounds great outside, miserable inside

Installation was easy once I figured out I that could disconnect the sway bar link that sits directly in the way of the ball/socket joint. Didn't see that tip in any directions or blogs. Lots of cursing before I figured that out. Outside of the car these pipes look and sound fantastic! They are nice and loud during acceleration and almost un-noticeable at idle. The black satin finish looks tremendous. Only problem is that they keep sliding to the outside of the exhaust hole no matter how many times I recenter and re-tighten them. The 4" tips still look good though. INSIDE the vehicle has been miserable. Just feather the accelerator between 2000 and 3000 rpm and the drone is unbearable. It's like a set of four 12" subwoofers humming a constant tone. I'm really disappointed because I love the outside sound so much, but these have got to go back to AM.

    • Response from AmericanMuscle

Installing a mid-pipe or a cold air intake have both been known to change the exhaust note and limit or get rid of any drone. As for your exhaust tips, I'd suggest taking your Mustang to a shop so they can take a look and get them tight enough that they stay in place for you. Sounds Better than a V8!

This product has a great note, that much I can say about it. I put it up against a 2012 5.0 that has the similar product (Pypes Black Pype-Bomb Axle-Back Exhaust) and over 80% of people liked the note better than the V8. A negative is that my MPG went down, but that is due to my new habits of shifting/revving. Since the note sounds so nice, I can't help but to shift later than sooner. Installation was a little difficult, It made it easier once a removed the bracket the held the two large pins in place. Fitment was also a little off, I'm going to place a u-bolt to hold more centered. Overall a great product for the price.

    Great product for the price!!!

I've contemplated which exhaust system to buy for my '13 V6. I decided to go with the Pype Bombs and man it was money well spent. These really open up your mustang and sound great! They are a pain to line up within the bumper cut outs by your self. I would highly recommend having an extra set of hands to help you out. Overall I would recommend these to anyone that wants to really open up their stang and be heard. For the price, quality, and sound the Pype Bombs give, I would put them up to any other exhaust system out there. Personally these sound better then the Borla and Roush systems for half the $$$$!

First off, the install was fairly easy, but it is ALOT easier with 2 people. It took us about 2 hours. they really aren't hard to align, just loosen your mid-pipes and don't tighten all the bolts all the way until you're happy with the alignment. These puppies are LOUD, but do quiet down a bit after you put about 75 miles on them. The black pipes on the 2013's look SICK... It just gives the rear end of the car that last black finish you're looking for. Okay, so the look, finish, fit, and the sound are GREAT, but i did have one problem..When i received them via UPS there was a pretty noticeable dent on the underside of my passenger side pipe..I don't think this is American Muscles' fault, but pay attention when you get them... It looked like it was banged or dropped on something before the finish went on, so i think it is PYPES fault. Anyways, i decided to go ahead and ignore it because it cannot be seen and it did not interfere with the resonator. Other than that its a great product and i highly recommend if you're wanting your stang to sound like a beast.

    Love the exhaust except...

The installation was the worst. Neither of the mufflers would seal correctly without the use of an exhaust sealer. And the passenger side muffler wouldn't fit without complete removal of the mid pipe. However after that, everything went relatively smooth, I love the sound of these. To be cliche, none of the videos posted do it justice. I thought everyone was full of themselves when they said that, but it's the truth. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend these to anyone for the simple fact that it took almost 7 hours to completely install them. Hopefully pypes is looking into this, because these sound absolutely amazing.

If it caught your eye, but it!

I put these in my '14 V6 and no one believes me it is coupe anymore. I did add some noise proof in the trunk and taped down a couple of things ( trunk light holder) because it causes rattling. Inside it is nice and outside it sounds super mean. Turns heads for sure. Install was easy. You don't have to cut the clamp tabs while under the car because they are welded to the OEM muffler. Made install so easy my 7 year old helped me.

    Best Axle-Back for the money

I was a little worried about drone with this axle-back being that the Mustang is my daily driver. The exhaust sounds perfect. Deep and low during idle and will scream at WOT. At 75mph in 6th gear the Pype Bombs make just enough noise in the cabin to let you know they are there but is definately not overbearing. Other reviews online state that they do not fit properly but I was able to get them centered within the cutouts in the back bumper without any bending or rewelding.

So i just put for one day and change it and it's also didn't fit perfect. So overall it's a no for me as a daily driver. And i don't know it is allow here to tell or no but I bought RTR tactional (magnaflow) exhaust .. Sound is same and no drone at all.

    Huge Mistake

fitment is terrible. tried putting them on myself and couldn't get them to line up properly so I put my old set on and headed to a shop. ended up taking it to two shops and got the same results ending with them showing and telling me the cuts and welds it would require to put on and the cost was a lot more than the actual pipes, so there sitting in the garage still. should have purchased a better set than these.

It's Alright, But It Definitely Needs Work

It felt like Christmas morning when the package came from ups, but then once I got it out of the box.... I was pretty bummed. My brand spankin new black pypes had numerous dings and dents and scratches, along with an almost 90 degree inch and a half bend on both the 4" tip, and the inlet. So I knew a do it yourself installation was out of the question considering all the feedback from previous buyers about the fitment being incorrect without and extra issues, and being impatient I do not want to send them back to AM, and wait for a new pair, possibly in the same or worse condition. But on to the good! (If you can call it that...) once my mechanic had gotten my stock mufflers off and fought to get the new ones as centered as they could possibly be, (not very appealing to the eye) I payed him my 100 bucks. And he turned it on, and let me tell you youtube videos do it no justice, it was loud!!!! Only had em for about ten miles now, and I'm praying the drone goes away. It's like a constant monotone subwoofer turned all the way up going off in some riced out honda. HATE TO BE A NEGATIVE NANCY!! But I Guess You Get What You Pay For. Definitely Couldn't Recommend, Especially Being My First Purchase From American Muscle.

    Great sounding

Sounds good , horrible fitment , had to reweld or heat up and bend all the hangers, bolts up to the existing piping, but wont line up, i was trying to let all the bolts loose and it didn't help at all , took my welder and torch and finally it's all aligned and looks good, one muffler got bend ( thanks to UPS ) but i don't really care since it's all the way under the car. Anyway great sound , a lil bit too loud but c'mon it's a mustang

They ARE pype bombs, got what I expected

Dislikes: 1- the left pipe keeps walking and rubbing bumper cutout 2- they do drone inside from 2800 to 3200 RPM, the level at 3200RPM is ear ringing. Likes: 1- they are loud, even under normal driving. Wife says if she is outside she can hear me coming half a mile away. At mid RPM and 100 throttle, can hear the exhaust inside. IT SOUNDS FREAKING AWESOME 2- pop and cackle on downshifts coming to a stop. 3- price Have the V6 with 3.73 gears, tuner, and CAI. I have notice a little bump in power. Fuel economy has not suffered, 18-19 with my foot in it, 22-23 with out. Great buy if you are looking for awesome sound and don't mind the drone.

    Install EASY JUST READ

Ok so I ordered theses pipes because there so so good for such a low price. People in the reviews say that the fit ment is bad. So this is what happens, one fits on one side of the mid pipe but when you try to put the other one on the pipes don't line up with the back axle pipe. But what I did was put the clamp on put the mid pipe and the back axle inside eachother and tightened the clamp as hard as I could and they lighted right up. It just takes some effort. The hardest part was getting the stock mufflers off. (BY THE WAY IM ONLY 15 WITH NO MECHINICAL EXPERIENCE THIS WAS MY FIRST INSTALL AND IM SO PROUD OF IT)

I got it for my 11 V6, I was reading the reviews, and a lot of them were talking about the fitment of these. I still bought the exhaust and was surprised. They actually fit just perfectly. I guess it depends if you're lucky enough. I was lucky. Installation took about 30 minutes and the hardest part was taking the old exhaust off. Pypes slid on very easy. THE SOUND IS AMAZING! The tone is aggressive and deep at low RPMs. Gets pretty loud at 3.5 - 5k RPM. It was exactly how I wanted it. When downshifting pops and cracks very nicely. At cruising speeds 70 mph still pretty silent. Conversations inside the cabin no problem at all. GREAT PRODUCT.

    Easy Install, Decent Fit

THESE SOUND GREAT! For the price you just cant beat it. I was back and forth between these and the roush pipes and i am so glad i went with pypes! Saved $200!! Installing the actual pipes takes maybe 15 minutes but what takes up all the time is getting the stock pipes off. Took me about an hour and a half to do everything. I think some people in their reviews give the wrong impression. These pipes will fit on your car with a little bit of wiggling on the midpipes but the problem with these pipes is that they dont quiet square up on center with the holes in the rear bumper. I decided to just use black wire ties and pull the pipes to where i wanted them. Overall they look great and sound amazing.

Great exhaust for the price EXCEPT...

I have had these for about 3-4 months now, let just say right now I will never go back to stock. If you want loud you got em. The noise in the cabin can be annoying especially if you go on road trips. The alignment is tough to do if you are alone so make sure you have two people. Now for everyone that has an exhaust rattle and cannot seem to find its location, I know where it is! It is hard to explain but all you will need are 2 hose clamps. follow the pipes all the way back until you find the clamp that connects the axle backs to the mid pipe, right after that you wrap the hose clamp around the pipe and the bar that is close to it. If you go under you car when it is off and try to bang around to look for the sound you won't find it, it only does it when the car is on because of the content vibration. This has worked for me and I haven't heard one little rattle ever since. Overall, I recommend these to someone who wants an aggressive exhaust sound for their V6.

    Sounds amazing but...

Although this Pypes axle-back makes my 2014 v6 sound like a completely different monster, the problems I have encountered with them overwhelm the awesomeness. First off, after reading reviews and saw the problems with fitment, I decided I'd go ahead and take the chance since these axle-backs are such a great deal. I took it to a local shop to install and they ran into major issues getting the Pypes to line up right the first time and told me to let them settle for a while then come back to see what they could do. I drove with the Pypes for a couple weeks and started noticing a terrible rattling noise and vibration coming from both axle-backs at lower rpms and eventually started happening at idle. A week after noticing the annoying noise, I took it back to the shop to realign the tips and hopefully fix the vibration and rattle. The shop had to cut and reweld the front hangers and bend the rear hangers in order to align them correctly. Finally they looked decent, but the rattling coming from the axle-backs themselves is still there. Of course none of this is American Muscle's fault, it's due to Pypes' mediocre quality of their product.

    Great exhaust; better price

For the price, this product is unbeatable. After hours of research and listening to sound clips, I decided to give the Pype bombs a chance. Got them for under $300 with a 5% off coupon, which made the total price about $200 cheaper than my next choice. Product came fast, packaged well, everything in order. The pipes were a little uneven, after installation one is about 1/2 longer than the other. I'm OK with itt, only I can tell and I didn't wanna cut or weld anything since I lack the experience. These things sound AMAZING. Pleasantly surprised with the overall quality, overjoyed with the sound, and the price just can't be beat.
