Review & Install Video
The Pypes Street Pro Touring axle-back is going to be a good option for you if you're looking for more of a budget-friendly axle-back for a 2015 and newer GT Mustang, that still delivers the stainless steel materials and has more of a standard muffler design. The majority of the less expensive axle-back options out there are muffler delete systems. But the Street Pro Touring axle-back doesn't fall into that category. So if you're looking for a system that wakes up the GT, but that isn't too loud and doesn't have drone, then you're in the right place. The install for this is easy. It should take you about an hour to complete, and I'm going to call it a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. This is a 409-stainless steel axle-back, like I mentioned earlier, and it's also mandrel-bent. It has four-inch black, powder-coated stainless steel tips. But Pypes does also offer this axle-back with polished stainless steel tips instead, if you like that look better. I always say this, but stainless steel is always a great option for the cars that see all different types of road conditions, because it offers great corrosion resistance. The sound that this axle-back offers is what I consider a smooth sound. It's not raspy and loud, but more deep. It's not loud just to be loud. Pypes was looking for a system that provided deep, aggressive sound with no drone. So when you're on the throttle, you have a different tone than when you're off the throttle. Off the throttle, you're looking at more of a mellow sound from this axle-back. Overall, this is an axle-back that doesn't have a ton of raspiness and popping to it. I will say, though, to keep in mind that it can get even louder with a mid-pipe and headers, and with that being said, I'm going to give it a solid three out of five on the loudness scale. At the end of the day, though, no matter if you love this sound or hate it, it really all depends on what you're looking for and what you like. Luckily, there are quite a few options out there. When you start to look at price, like I mentioned earlier, this axle-back is on the more budget-friendly side. If you like the look of the powder-coated, polished tips here, you can expect to spend right about $500, while the system with the polished stainless steel tips is about $30 less. Either way, both systems are very affordable when you compare them to other offerings. But like I say with every axle-back, if this isn't what you're looking for, feel free to check out some of the other options, since there's a lot to choose from. You're going to be looking at the typical cut-and-clamp design with the install for this axle-back, since you need to cut all S550 axle-backs. I'm going to call this a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, but just because the cutting that's involved. It's nothing difficult, but I just recommend some eye protection and a fresh blade to make the cutting easier. Overall, it should take you about an hour to complete. A lift would certainly make things easier for you here, but the job can be done on jack stands as well if you don't have access to one. Cutting the factory axle-back isn't hard. Just be sure to measure twice and plan a mark where you'll be cutting, so you don't make a mistake. The new axle-back will come with four new clamps for you, and two for the tips so you don't have to worry about that. When you go to install your new setup, it'll probably be easiest to leave everything loose until you have it all lined up, and then tighten it down. Overall the Pypes Street Pro Touring axle-back is an upgrade for the 2015 and newer Mustang. You can check it out more online right here at americanmuscle.com.
