I have a 98 manual v6 with 3.73 and my speedometer is off would this fix my problem

        • Your 98 V6 would require the 7 Tooth Ford Speedometer Drive Gear used in conjunction with a 21T speedometer drive gear to correct the speedometer for 3.73 gears.

Which gears do I use for a 1990 T5 with 373 rear gears

        • Modifying your system to a 7 tooth setup, you should be utilizing a 21 Speedo Gear.

I have a 98 gt with a manual tremec t45 and 3.73 rear end gears. Would I need a 21 tooth Speedo gear along with this 7 tooth drive gear to correct my Speedo?

        • For a 1998 GT, we would recommend the Ford Speedometer Drive Gear in a 7 tooth configuration with a 21 Tooth Ford Speedo Gear.

Fits perfect and replaced my stripped out one. I wish it came with a new retainer clip but it's fine.

            Don’t buy

Teeth are not fully cut, thought I got a defective one. all the big after market retailers buy from the same disturber, look at smaller different companies like I did after ordering and returing 3 of these gears

            Unfinished Ford part

I ordered two gears a 6 and 7 tooth drive gears , had to use the 6 tooth because Ford never checked out the quality of the 7 tooth job because plastic was still in the grooves

            Probably works with the T5

This will probably work with the T5, but I have a T45 and nobody seems to sell this gear for the T45. I bought this thinking (for some reason) that it would fit the T45 but it did not. Other than the smaller shaft size, this gear is the same as it would be for the T45, so I chucked it up in the lathe and bored it out to have a 0.02" press fit over the T45 drive shaft. Pressed it on and it works great with my 3.55:1 rear end and 20 tooth speedometer gear. If I recall correctly the drive shaft outside diameter is 1.375" and I bored out the gear to 1.355" as I said before, it works great

Is necessary to get speedo right for new rear gears

I purchased new rear end gears and replacing the speedometer drive gear was required to retain the correct speedometer reading. Was a little work since transmission removal was required but not that big of deal with a little mechanical know how.

just wanted to add something to the installation guide, do not forget to put the shift linkage coupling and spring & ball in the housing before the tail shaft goes all the way on, or like me you will be pulling it back off :( this is not in the Installation Guide

It corrects the speedometer when changing your stock gears to 3.73. Easy to change when transmission is down.
