      Review & Installation Video

Hey, guys. Stephanie, with Here is a review and an install of the SR Performance Muffler Delete Axle-Back Exhaust that's available for the 2015 and up, S550 GT Mustang. We're gonna cover a few things with this exhaust in this video. We maybe be talking about the sound of the axle-back, the materials, and the install. The install for this is easy, it's a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter but only because you do need a cut in order to install an axle-back on an S550, but we'll talk more about that later. The SR Performance Muffler Delete Axle-Back Exhaust is going to be a system that you should check out if you're looking for a stainless steel axle-back to make a big change in your exhaust note, but you want to keep the cost down as much as possible because, let's face it, exhaust for the S550 can get expensive fast. Muffler Delete Axle-Backs are more budget-friendly than normal muffler assemblies, so in this case, you're getting a ton of sound at one of the most affordable prices. Normally in an axle-back video, I'd start by talking about the mufflers right about now. In this case, we don't have any mufflers. A muffler delete system like this one is going to be loud and aggressive sounding because all that you have here are a set of pipes. A set-up like this is also going to reduce the normal flow restriction that you'd get with a traditional muffler set-up. All that you're looking at here is stainless steel tubing that bolts up to the factory piping, maintains a 2.5-inch diameter, and ends with 4-inch polished stainless steel tips. This is going to make for a very big change in exhaust note. After the resonator, you're not going to have any exhaust filtration whatsoever. As you heard in the sound clips, this is going to be much louder than stock and deeper sounding. The good thing about this axle-back though, is that if you want it to be tame it can be, but it gets rowdy when you lay into it. It's nice, in my opinion, when you get a sound that changes like this one. You have more of a range of tone and sounds to enjoy, and you don't have to worry when you're idling or lightly cruising that your car's going to be too loud. You do come across a little bit of drone with this axle-back. It is a muffler delete system, so I'm personally not surprised by that fact. It's definitely not the worst drone that I've ever heard but it is noticeable. As far as sound inside the car, you can hear that you have an aftermarket axle-back on the car but you don't get the same sound on the inside. It's much more toned down. This makes the drone not that bad, so it's not gonna be a deal-breaker, in my opinion. That being said, and after you guys heard the sound clips, I'm going to label this one as a four out of five on the loudness scale, one being a quiet upgrade and five being a very loud upgrade. For an axle-back, you can't get much louder than this. I will say though that you should keep in mind that you get this volume and this sound with the stock resonator still in place. If you ever change you mid-pipe down your road, or even your headers, this system is going to get even louder, and it has a potential to be very loud depending on what you do with the rest of your exhaust system. Just keep in mind the smaller diameter inlet that this axle-back has, being that it's made from stock exhaust. I mentioned earlier that this axle-back is stainless steel. Stainless steel is the best option when it comes to exhaust. If you're looking for corrosion resistance and a long life from the product, it's going to have property advantages over other materials, like aluminized steel, and it's gonna hold up much better over time. Next, we're looking at price. If you want to pick this axle-back up, you can expect to spend between $300 and $400. As our Performance does also offer this system with black tips, if you prefer that instead, but it is going to cost about $20 more. This is the most affordable axle-back for the S550. That does go back to what I said earlier about muffler delete systems being less expensive. This axle-back still has the 304 stainless steel, though, so you aren't lacking in materials. You're gonna be looking at the typical cut and clamp design with the install for this axle-back since you need to cut all S550 axle-backs. I'm gonna call this a two out of three wrenches in the scale but just because the cutting that's involved. It's nothing difficult, but I just recommend some eye protection and a fresh plate to make the cutting easier. Overall, you're looking at about two hours to get this all done. A lift would certainly make things easier for you here, but the job can be done on jack stands as well if you don't have access to one. Cutting the factory axle-back isn't hard, just be sure to measure twice and plan a mark where you'll be cutting so you don't make a mistake. The new axle-back will come with new clamps for you, so you don't have to worry about that. When you go to install your new set-up, it will probably be easiest to leave everything loose until you have it all lined up and then tighten it down. Wrapping things up with the SR Performance Muffler Delete Axle-Back System, this is a stainless steel axle-back that maintains a 2.5-inch diameter. It's designed to be used with the factory exhaust, or an aftermarket exhaust with the same diameter, and it delivers a ton of sound. As always, you can check it out more online right here, at

You need to buy this along with the sr performance x pipe. The two together are breathtaking. They tuned this exhaust just right. I can feel the power and the radio does not come on anymore in my car. The car’s sound is all you need.

        5 2016 GT - Steven50 Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        Great sound, quality, and price!

Installation is very easy and straight forward. I strongly recommend using a sawzall and filing down where you cut. If you don't have a file, use a rubber mallet and a folded towel to get it on. It fits fine, but it is snug. Just my two cents on the matter. Great look and sound though. The quality is awesome as well, not obnoxious as I had read from one review.

        Good quality, sounds ok

The quality, finish, and fitment is really good. The sound is just ok. Sounds a little harley-ish at certain levels but expected at this price point and because it's a straight through design. Still happy with it though

        AWESOME Looking and Sounding Exhaust!

Got these for my newly purchased 2017 GT w/Performance Package with 7100 miles. Had these pipes delivered to my local shop and they installed them in 20 minutes. They said the included instructions were excellent and showed exactly where to cut the original tubing and resulted in a quick install. Awesome looking, great quality and worth 5 times their cost when it comes to the sound they produce. Don't pay ridiculous prices like $500, $700 or $800 for some of the other so called "Name" brands. This mod was by far the best bang for the buck and should be your first modification.
