      Review & Installation Video

Hey everyone, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com here with a new and exciting product that gives you the ability to change your exhaust tone on the fly. That's right. I'm taking a closer look at the Varex Axleback Exhaust system from X-Force fitting your 11 to 14 Coyote Power GT.X-Force is a relatively new exhaust company that's based out of Australia and gained a lot of popularity over there and slowly but surely their products are making their way over here to the U.S. where the demand and reviews have been favorable so far. Now again the Varex here is their bread and butter and is really exciting because it does give you full control of your exhaust tone at any time, on the fly, thanks to the remote control operation. Now a tunable exhaust system isn't exactly a new concept. Different companies have done it over the years with varying levels of success, and in fact Roush even implemented it recently on their new S550 cars. The biggest plus with the Varex here is you do have full control over your one at the push of a button here with the included key fobs from inside the car anytime. This means no getting out of the car, no messing with tools, anything like that.So how does it work? Well the Varex has an internal butterfly mechanism similar to a E-cutout that opens and closes with the key fob determining on how loud you want the muffler to be. Now keep it closed you'll have street mode which basically flows the exhaust through a chambered portion here in the muffler, keeping it quiet almost like a stock-like tone. But when you're ready to crank it up a little bit hold that button on the key fob all the way down. That butterfly mechanism swings open and at that point you have the race mode. It switches to a straight through portion of the muffler here giving you that very aggressive tone. The entire Varex system here has been constructed using durable stainless steel, polished to a nice bright finish and includes these four inch slash cut tips. Now the brains behind this operation here is this little control module that you do have to run inside the car using the included harness here but very straight forward and completely plug and play. These two ends plug into the muffler where this end plugs into the 12-vault source in your center console like we did with our 2011.Now guys we're going to call the install of the mufflers themselves about and hour which is standard for axle back and then maybe another 45 minutes to an hour getting your wire all situated. So, as always if you have any questions whatsoever with this exhaust system or if you need help with the install itself feel free to reach out to a Mustang expert. So if you're one of the many Mustang owners out there who can't quite decide if you want your car to be loud or quiet, well now you can have the best of both worlds here on the fly thanks to the Varex from X-Force available at AmericanMuscle.com.

      Description

Adjustable Sound. The Varex Mustang Axle-Back Exhaust system features adjustable Varex performance mufflers that allow you to switch from a mellow Street sound to a rich throaty Race style exhaust note or anywhere in between the two with just a push of a button!

How It Works. Varex performance mufflers utilize a sophisticated internal electronic butterfly valve mechanism to direct the exhaust flow within the muffler. In the open position the valve "uncorks" the exhaust flow allowing it to take the path of lease resistance to act more like a straight-through muffler for a rich throaty race style exhaust note. In the closed position the valve blocks the exhaust flow forcing it through the chambered paths to produce a classic mellow street friendly sound. This unique design is perfect for personalizing the power and sound levels of your Mustang to suit your own specific needs.

Stainless Steel Construction. Manufactured from high quality stainless steel for it's superior durability and corrosion resistance, this Varex Axle-back features two adjustable chambered mufflers that end  with massive 4.0" diameter polished stainless steel tips that exit in the stock location for impressive muscle car looks and sound.

Direct Bolt-On Installation. Engineered to be a direct upgrade replacement, this Varex axle-back will easily bolt up to the factory piping without any modifications required for a straight forward installation. The control module can be powered by your Mustangs 12v accessory outlet for plug and play operation or connected to a 12v source - the choice is yours.

Application. This Varex Axle-Back Exhaust is designed as a direct fit bolt-on upgrade for the 2011 to 2014 GT Mustangs equipped with the DOHC Coyote 5.0L V8 engine.

        Great Product but..

Nice and quite when closed, and not to much louder when open, but its noticeable. Though most of my setup is stock so I feel after long tubes and cat delete this will sound amazing when opened and quiet when closed. So the installation of the mufflers and tips wasn't too bad, but when It came to hooking up the mufflers to the harness, the harness was not long enough. There was plenty of cable going from the interior to a muffler but once one muffler was connected the connector to the second muffler didn't reach. So we had to cut and make it longer. Would have given five stars but that's something that needs to come out the correct length from the manufacturer for these cars.

        X-Force Varex "Tunable" exhaust

Really neat concept and put into practice pretty successfully. Love the ability to switch on the fly. Biggest complaint is that I was hoping for about 10db louder than what these can do. Oh well. I did try to do a self install. I successfully removed the driver's side factory exhaust no problem but then discovered that the drop-in-fit was more of a "file-to-fit" so I wound up letting a muffler shop do the install. Cost me $100 bucks and well worth it. I still need to dress out and route the controller wires but that'll be easy. So my only real complaint is that I wish the system was a tad bit louder (10db or so) when fully open. Hence, four stars instead of five.

        X-Force Varex

Exactly what I wanted - quiet when I'm not looking for attention or do not want o disturb others, and able to exhale as hard as possible when necessary. Took a little patience to get the tips exactly where I wanted them and I was able to do it without any modifications. Additional install time was to hide the wires for the power.

        Your neighbors won't hate you!

Worth every penny and more. Almost silent when I leave in the morning, but coming home I can unleash the beast! For me it was too quiet wide open with the rest of the exhaust stock, but I threw a cat to axle H-pipe on and I couldn't be happier with the sound now.

      5 Top Rated Questions

Since this connects to the 12v, won't it drain my battery when the car is off?

      • The X-Force Varex Axle-Back Exhaust can be attached to any 12v battery source, and if it is wired in a way that is always drawing current from the battery, it can drain it. We would recommend wiring it with either a switch or in a way that it only gets current when the ignition is in the on position.

Do i need to get the smart box or can i still open and close valves without the box?

      • The valves can be opened and closed with the included control module and key fobs. The X-Force Varex Smartbox is not needed to control them.

I have 2012 Mustang GT with VMP GEN3 Supercharger, Roush Axle-back exhaust, Cat delete, H Pipe along with KOOKS long tube headers the car is extremely loud specially the cold start. I have read the reviews I guess this is the exhaust setup for me I would like to go with it. But I would like to know if I can install The existing ROUSH SQUARE TIPS on it? If so the butterflies would still work as they are supposed to?

      do these have drone?

      • The X-Force Varex Axle-Back Exhaust will have some drone while at certain speeds and load.
