Justin from AmericanMuscle.com, we're here with Chris Thompson from Airaid. He stopped by the shop to tell us a little more about these great Airaid products. We're very familiar with Airaid; we use them on our project cars with great success. Chris, what can you tell us about Airaid that makes it so unique? "Everything we do is digitally designed. It's engineered to fit, it's engineered to work, it's engineered to work without any special tuning. Now, tuning is much, much better. You guys offer a lot of great choices in aftermarket tuning. It'll only enhance the performance of the Mustang. We design our intakes so there's no special gluing required, there's no cutting or hacking of the engine required. If somebody decided to put a stock intake back on, they don't have to go back to Ford to buy another part to put the piece back on. Every intake we do is digitally designed. It's all about the design of the airflow and the linear charge to the throttle body. We use the rotational molding not so much for the heat soaking, but for the shape of the tube we can come up with. By using the rotational molding, it allows us to really give the right shape and form to make sure the product works well." We're very excited—we've got our 2013 Mustang here, probably not even 10 miles on this thing yet, and we already have an Airaid intake on it. Tell us a little more about that. "This is awesome. We're really excited to be here today. This is the first Airaid intake on a 2013 Mustang. We're really excited to be here with you guys. As you can see it fits. We know for sure it fits. We believe we have a hit. We'll do a little bit more testing on it before we release it to the public, but that should happen anytime now." Now, you were telling me earlier, you're working with some legends in the Mustang world. "Well, we're excited about working with Parnelli Jones and his son PJ. Parnelli's been instrumental in helping us come along with the Boss 302 intakes we're trying to develop. Nobody knows the heritage of the Boss 302 better than Parnelli Jones. We worked with PJ on the side by side utility vehicles (Razors, Rhinos, and TRX's). We also sponsored him in the past on his endeavors in the American Le Mans Series, which he ran last year." Chris, thank you so much for educating us on your great Airaid products. And as always, you can find those great Airaid products right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

More Air for More Power. Your V6 Mustang's stock inlet tube is undersized with restrictive accordion-shaped walls and sound-canceling baffles that obstruct airflow, essentially robbing you of power. But by replacing your factory tube with a computer designed Modular Intake Tube from Airaid you will maximize air flow to increase horsepower, torque and improve fuel efficiency.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Air Intakes on the market today for the 3.7L V6 Mustang, the Airaid Modular Intake Tube does not require a computer re-tune. The engineers at Airaid really did their homework to improve your Pony's power and performance using the stock tune.

CARB Certified. Best of all this Airaid Modular Intake Tube is 50-state smog legal under Carb EO# D-609-11.

Easy Installation. The Airaid modular intake tube was designed to be a direct fit replacement for the stock inlet tube and installs with just basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for an easy 1 hour installation.

Application. The Airaid Modular Intake Tube is specifically designed to fit the 2011 to 2014 V6 Mustangs equipped with the 3.7L V6 engine. This Modular Intake Tube reuses the factory air box and filter element.

Has anyone done a before and after dyno to see if this is even worth the $?

    Renownedd

    • Airaid has not provided dynamo-meter results for their Airaid Modular Intake Tube however, with providing an increase up to 400CFM. You can expect some smaller gains than compared to replacing the entire intake, however, a high flow replacement filter will also help in squeezing out the most power.

Would you be able to use an aftermarket filter instead of the stock airbox with this intake tube?

Would this work on a 2010???

    AnthonyA

    • Unfortunately the Airaid Modular Intake Tube will only fit the 11-14 V6 motors as the 2010 still had the 4.0L engine that carried over from the 05-09 model years. The 11-14 V6 has a 3.7L so fitment won't be the same.

    • The Airaid Modular Intake Tube is made of Roto-molded, high density polyethylene.

I have a tune for a intake would me running this on a stock box work with the tune as well?

    dlara

    • Hello! The Airaid Modular Intake Tube will not require a tune. However for your tune this would depend entirely on how your tune is set up. You will want to check with your tuner to see how your tune is set up!

      Not bad

Over all I was happy with this product. The only down side was that I didn't get the sound I was hoping for. I would however recommend this intake tub.

      Good buy

The only reason I had any difficulty installing this is because it was being fitted to a different throttle body than the stock one. Other than that it would have been super simple.

      Great value, good results

Very easy to install with basic hand tools. Clamps could be a bit larger. Needed to open them completely in order to fit the in it on. Coupled with a high flow filter definitely felt the low end gains and it makes a great noise. For gains very similar to a full open intake system with cone filter costing nearly 3 times as much, bargain of the year for sure.

      Probably helped some

Put it on with shorty headers so I don't know how much it contributed to the increase in performance. With the two it was definitely noticeable starting in second gear.

      Silencer delete

Cleans up the engine bay and air flow. You hear the engine a little more now that the two silencer chambers are gone. Not much of a performance gain item. But does make the engine bay area look better. Would recommend a KandN panel filter or a panel filter that is more free flowing with this. Do not waste your money on a $300 Cold Air Intake that looks cool. You already have one from the factory. On install, go ahead and attach the couplers. Undo the filter cover. Take off the stock tube and install the new. Bolt down. Reattach the filter cover and latch it down. 15min install.

OK by itself, great with aFe dry filter

Easy install. I like that it keeps the already well-designed factory cold air box. Certainly cleaned up the engine bay. Didn't notice any difference on the road once installed, but when my aFe pro dry filter arrived a few days later, the car had a noticeable improvement in throttle response and power. I'm happy I bought it. Between this tube and the filter, a CAI for under $200.

      Worth it

You can tell the difference between this and the stock one easily. In my car I can hear the increase in airflow and can feel a bit more get up, that's without a tune.

      Airaid does it again

I've posted on AM on the products I've purchased and as those of you who've read my reviews know, my family and I drag race at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, CO. We run three Mustangs and an F-150 Ecoboost. I've added this intake tube, replacing the stock one, in conjunction with an AFE Magnum Pro oiled air filter, a Ford Performance X Pipe, Flowmaster 40's axle backs, and a throttle enhancer. BBK Shorty headers go on next. However, I have to say that between this intake tube and the AFE Oiled filter, I've noticed an improvement in ¼ mile times equalling about 3/10 of a second. That may not sound like much, but when a race is won or lost by a fraction of a second, every little bit helps. If you don't want to spend the money on a traditional CAI, this tube plus a high flow filter will do the trick. Install hint: use some silicone lubricant on the rubber collar that goes on the throttle body, mount the collar to the throttle body FIRST, then insert the tube. Open the clamps all the way and reinsert the ends into the clamp when you need to tighten them down. Repeat this process on the filter box side.

      very surprised

I have the same basic part on my truck. When I installed it on the truck, I didn't see much improvement. It was a basic seat of the pants dyno improvement. Installing on the mustang, I didn't expect much. But I did like the overall cleaner look. I don't know if I have more performance or not, but I can say my average mile per gallon has increased, with the same style driving, by about 1.5 miles to the gallon. Over the lifetime of the car, I will see this money come.back to me

      Great product

I bought this with an AEM DryFlow Replacement Filter. It took about 20 minutes to install and really cleans up the look under the hood. The car seems to have better throttle response and pickup and you can hear the intake when you get on it. It sounds a lot like the old un-silenced air cleaners we used back in the 60's. Definitely an inexpensive way to have a CAI.

      Highly recommend

Any 3.7 owner should own this intake. It was easy to install did not take long at all. It's better to keep your stock air-box, because you can just put a stock air filter if you would ever want to again.

      Nice True Cold Air

I had the original Airaid CAI on my 2013 but after reading about the warmer ambient air temp I decided to go w/ this unit for my 14 3.7 convertible. Definely offers a lower exhaust note and quicker throttle response. Tune will probably add more to it!
