Justin from AmericanMuscle.com, we're here with Chris Thompson from Airaid. He stopped by the shop to tell us a little more about these great Airaid products. We're very familiar with Airaid; we use them on our project cars with great success. Chris, what can you tell us about Airaid that makes it so unique? "Everything we do is digitally designed. It's engineered to fit, it's engineered to work, it's engineered to work without any special tuning. Now, tuning is much, much better. You guys offer a lot of great choices in aftermarket tuning. It'll only enhance the performance of the Mustang. We design our intakes so there's no special gluing required, there's no cutting or hacking of the engine required. If somebody decided to put a stock intake back on, they don't have to go back to Ford to buy another part to put the piece back on. Every intake we do is digitally designed. It's all about the design of the airflow and the linear charge to the throttle body. We use the rotational molding not so much for the heat soaking, but for the shape of the tube we can come up with. By using the rotational molding, it allows us to really give the right shape and form to make sure the product works well." We're very excited—we've got our 2013 Mustang here, probably not even 10 miles on this thing yet, and we already have an Airaid intake on it. Tell us a little more about that. "This is awesome. We're really excited to be here today. This is the first Airaid intake on a 2013 Mustang. We're really excited to be here with you guys. As you can see it fits. We know for sure it fits. We believe we have a hit. We'll do a little bit more testing on it before we release it to the public, but that should happen anytime now." Now, you were telling me earlier, you're working with some legends in the Mustang world. "Well, we're excited about working with Parnelli Jones and his son PJ. Parnelli's been instrumental in helping us come along with the Boss 302 intakes we're trying to develop. Nobody knows the heritage of the Boss 302 better than Parnelli Jones. We worked with PJ on the side by side utility vehicles (Razors, Rhinos, and TRX's). We also sponsored him in the past on his endeavors in the American Le Mans Series, which he ran last year." Chris, thank you so much for educating us on your great Airaid products. And as always, you can find those great Airaid products right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

More Air for More Power. Your V6 Mustang's stock inlet tube is undersized with restrictive accordion-shaped walls and sound-canceling baffles that obstruct airflow, essentially robbing you of power. But by replacing your factory tube with a computer designed Modular Intake Tube from Airaid you will maximize air flow to increase horsepower, torque and improve fuel efficiency.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Air Intakes on the market today for the 3.7L V6 Mustang, the Airaid Modular Intake Tube does not require a computer re-tune. The engineers at Airaid really did their homework to improve your Pony's power and performance using the stock tune.

CARB Certified. Best of all this Airaid Modular Intake Tube is 50-state smog legal under Carb EO# D-609-11.

Easy Installation. The Airaid modular intake tube was designed to be a direct fit replacement for the stock inlet tube and installs with just basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for an easy 1 hour installation.

Application. The Airaid Modular Intake Tube is specifically designed to fit the 2011 to 2014 V6 Mustangs equipped with the 3.7L V6 engine. This Modular Intake Tube reuses the factory air box and filter element.

Has anyone done a before and after dyno to see if this is even worth the $?

  • Airaid has not provided dynamo-meter results for their Airaid Modular Intake Tube however, with providing an increase up to 400CFM. You can expect some smaller gains than compared to replacing the entire intake, however, a high flow replacement filter will also help in squeezing out the most power.

I have a tune for a intake would me running this on a stock box work with the tune as well?

dlara

  • Hello! The Airaid Modular Intake Tube will not require a tune. However for your tune this would depend entirely on how your tune is set up. You will want to check with your tuner to see how your tune is set up!

Does anyone know if this improves the sound like the Airaid CAI does or did anyone notice if there is no difference in sound?

totaljustice

  • i was wondering this myself, so i sat and read every review posted! at least three of the reviews mentioned a better sound (over stock) with this tube. that makes sense, since this tube eliminates the stock sound dampener/ baffles. i would assume a full c.a.i. set up would be a bit louder than this though because of the exposed cone-style air filter.

Will the Airaid intake tube fit with the Airaid powered throttle body spacer?

Daisyoda

  • Not my reply but this is what I've found researching brother. This TB spacer is designed to be used in conjunction with the stock throttle body only, not a larger mm aftermarket TB. Also, this spacer won't fit properly with the Airaid Cold Air Intake. If you already have both the BBK TB and Airaid CAI, my suggestion is to simply keep the set up you have!

    Above expectations

Took me awhile to understand that a car engine is nothing else then a big air pump. As such, this tube can be an important part of total air flow capacity. Don't expect much from this tube alone, but when paired with a KandN air filter and less restrictive exhaust system, the result might be impressive especialy as far as sound stance goes. Some reviews claimed a deeper tone and I agree, it is now deeper. Surprisingly, this change of tone is not coming from the intake only but also from the exhaust. I don't have any idea how this tube can affect the exhaust sound but it does, especialy at low rpm. I've been wondering why the horrible silencer was only present on the genuine V6 tube but I now think one of it's goal is to increase the tone difference between the V6 and V8 since it is missing on the last and that it is now hard to tell the diffenence between the two at idle. Not sure about any performance gain. A 6HP increase will represent only a 2 improvement and won't be noticable on normal driving. Install was very easy and fit perfect. Be sure to unclip the CAI cover to ease flex tube insertion and also to use the right clamp at the right place. Two of the four supplied clamps are slightly bigger and must be used for the inner and bigger section of the tube.

    It's Alive!!

What a difference this product makes from the factory intake tube. Utilizing the factory cold air box, it connects in minutes to the throttle body at one and the cold air box at the other. Using a KandN drop in filter, also from AM, one can actually hear the massive air flow. There's a noticeable gain in power and throttle response as well. One of the best and easiest mods!

    AIRAID Modular Intake Tube Install

I purchased the AIRAID modular intake tube as a performance/mpg compliment to the existing KandN air filter on my 2014 V6 Mustang. I checked the unit for fit and finish (no defects) and that all parts were present (check). After a quick once through read of the instructions (which were clear and to the point), I was ready. Actual install time was under a half hour with the hood up and all parts on hand. Everything fit perfectly and the finished job looked professional. AIRAID could go up one size on each of the SS hose clamps they supplied as you have to unscrew them almost to the end to put them on the rubber fittings and still allow room for expansion of the rubber fitting when you push it on either the throttle body or stock air box. A quick road test showed a noticeable improvement in highway passing performance. Without access to a dynamometer I can't verify how much the actual HP and Torque gains are through out the RPM range... but the gains are real. I intend on checking the highway mileage to see if there is an improvement. I am very satisfied with the product and performance.

Dyno tested, easy install, and sounds great.

I have a 2012 mustang v6. Most full system intakes claim a 10 to 12 hp gain for an average of 300 dollers. I bought the modular intake for 119, and a kn filter for 50 bucks. Went to the local dyno shop who had a free dyno day and according to power lost at crank adding that percentage lost to manufacturers claim of hp. The modular intake plus high flow filter added exactly 10 hp for half the price. Plus it 100% smog legal in 50 states. I sugest this product coupled with cat back exhaust to have an easy performace gain with do it yourself products from AmricanMuscle.com. if you want to really freak people out.... tune it. Just be smart. And dont hurt anyone.

    Great alternative to a CAI

Shipping was super fast and the install was just about as easy. I couldn't really tell a big performance difference but the sound was much better. This tube takes out all of the unnecessary bends and baffling of the factory unit and lets the sound of the engine rush through!

    Cleans Up Engine Bay

I am using the stock air box with an AFE dry drop-in filter. Before Airaid made this tube available, I blocked off the holes in the stock resonator box. I wish this tube was available a year earlier as I would have just gone this route to begin with. Now that it is available, I finally decided to swap the modified stock tube out with this one. I'm not sure if I would have spent this much money on just a tube, but I bought a $1 raffle ticket at the bowling alley and won $114 so basically this tube was free. I also didn't want to use the Airaid decal since I am really not running a complete Airaid intake, so I searched the Internet until I found a Ford Blue Oval decal that fit perfectly on the raised oval area on the tube. It does clean up the engine bay and I like the way it turned out. One word of advice, hit the inside of the rubber hoses where they slip onto other parts with silicone spray. Also, loosen the clamps as far as they go, and be sure to pull the stock air box cover off the base when attaching the hose. It will make the install much easier. The car has been parked for the winter, so I have not had it out much with the new tube.

    Breathing easy!

Easy install! Good instructions. Great engine clean up! Good fit! Still trying to determine level of performance gains, but as I continue to evaluate and make a final determination, I'm glad I went this route vice spending twice as much for the more common CAI products Airaid offers. Still waiting for my KandN filter on back order. Got the "breath in" covered, now on to the "breath out" with Flow Master muffs.

    Airaid intake tube great addition

After installing my Ford Racing/KandN panel filter I was looking for something to replace the stock intake tube, and this Airaid tube is perfect. It definitely improved throttle response and cleaned up the engine compartment. Like others have stated, the clamps are a pain and that is what adds time to the install. That is why I rated it 4 stars for fit. I found the best way to deal with them is to open the clamps until they separate, then re-attach them once you have them surrounding the rubber part that you want to clamp.

Awesome alteranative to CAI kits, but get bigger clamps

Installation was straightforward and the only tools needed are a flat-head screwdriver and an adjustable wrench. The only issue I had with the installation was trying to get one of the 2 supplied large clamps (#52 I think) around the throttle body to tube hose. I loosely threaded the clamp where it was barely connected and slowly work the tube onto it. The clamp would pop off so I had to do this several times before it finally wanted to cooperate. If I had to do this all over I'd just go to a hardware store and get 2 large clamps (I think a #56) to spare myself from the frustration of something so ridiculous. Also, after looking at the photos I realized that mine didn't come with the large sticker. This is superficial, but having a sticker that doesn't fully cover the area just looks weird.

Tight Fit but better solution than CAI

This modular intake tube coupled with an aFe drop in filter is a better solution than the aftermarket cai because you get to keep the stock airbox which is a true cold air intake as it doesn't suck in the hot air from the engine bay. Also during rainy days you wouldn't have to worry about getting water into the filter since it's contained in a closed box.

I recommend this product to Everyone! Great fit, good look, and better throttle response. I felt this and a drop in filter is better than a cold air intake. Ford already did a good job on the induction already. With a tune this will product will show more.

    airaid modular intake tube

Ordered this intake after researching all there was to offer. I didn't like the price tag on the full on " cold air intakes " when the modular intake offered the same entry level performance gains. Plus the factory airbox was more of a true cold air intake than most of the others. Installation was straight forward and very easy. Only took about 20 minutes. Fit and finish is a 10, Looks great too. For those not wanting to get waist deep into high dollar performance upgrades just yet, this is a great piece to start with. And when you are ready it will work with other upgrades. With the addition of a factory kandn panel air filter I have a $ 160 cold air intake system.

Better solution then a "Cold Air Intake"...

So originally I had the Airaid Synthamax cold air intake for the 11-14 V6. I had the 13/14 GT Hood Vents installed on my car. I found when it would rain, water would leak through the vents and get in to the open intake filter. Causing the car to shut off. Also, with an open air filter, the ambient intake air temp was really high when cruising for a while or racing at the track. Always around 140-160 degrees. So I sold that and went with the Airaid Modular Intake Tube and an aFe Pro dop-in filter w/ the closed intake box. Now, water is no longer an issue. The highest I have seen my Ambient Intake Air Temp is around 125-130 degrees. Throttle response is just as good. Same performance. And over $100 cheaper then a "Cold Air Intake" solution. Spent about $170 for this setup. I would recommend going with this setup to save yourself some money and peace of mind if you do want the GT Hood Vents later on.
