      Video Review & Installation

Justin: The American Brothers Design's Black Oil Catch Can that we have here today will be a great choice for the '09 and newer 5.7 and 6.4 HEMI Challenger owners who are looking to help keep their intakes a little bit cleaner while adding a nice little touch of customization at the same time. Now this made in the USA kit will feature a billet aluminum canister along with a really sharp gloss black paintjob and last but not least is topped off with that officially licensed Scat Pack logo all for right around the low $200 price point. So why add something like this to your HEMI in the first place? Well, if you didn't know, your HEMI has what is called a PCV system which is short for positive crankcase ventilation. Now the purpose of this system is to regulate and remove these fumes and oily vapors produced during combustion from the engine crankcase and to alleviate crankcase pressure which could otherwise lead to oil leaks or seal damage. Now, why not just pump this stuff into the atmosphere? Well, because the good folks at the EPA deemed it not exactly good for business and at that point, mandated stricter emissions laws which meant the PCV system had to be sealed and then use vacuum from the intake manifold to draw these vapors out and plum them back into the intake tract to be burned off during the next combustion cycle. Now the unfortunate part about all of this is that those oily vapors have been known to coat both the intake and intake manifold along with leaving some deposits on the backside of your intake valves over time. And that's where the American Brothers Catch Can comes into play. Now, this guy is gonna utilize a combination of stainless-steel mesh and honeycomb here aluminum inside this canister itself and that's going to allow the vapors to pass through. That honeycomb and mesh material is gonna capture all that oily junk, isolate it in the canister itself while allowing fresh, clean air to continue through the PCV system allowing it to function as it normally would. Now as far as construction is concerned here, guys, with the American Brothers stuff, very nice billet aluminum canister, has been finished off in a beautiful gloss black paint job and the big appeal here with this particular kit will be the officially licensed Scat Pack engraving right on top here which by the way is one of the few different designs available from the crew at American Brothers Designs that you can find here at americanmuscle.com. Last but not least, guys, this kit does include all of the elbows, the hoses, the hardware needed to get the canister in place for the installation. Now speaking of that install, this is gonna be a very simple and straightforward task. So, the site is gonna call it a one out of three wrench job and about 30 minutes to an hour to get everything wrapped up. Now to give you a better idea of just how things would go down on your HEMI at home, check out this AM customer walking you through the job right now.Male: For installation, we have ourselves an 8-millimeter hexagonal bolt, we have a 15-millimeter socket wrench, flathead screwdriver, and your hose clamps. Now, what size are these? Nine to 22-millimeter. That's what you need. This is installation for a catch can on a 2021 Challenger Wide Body Scat Pack.First thing you need to do is I like to remove this cover, it gives me more room to work with. Basically, it's fastened on on two inserts and you can just pop it off as I've already done before. This is what they look like. And just set it aside. This is gonna be your inlet and outlet. That's going into your manifold. Now you can use a flathead screwdriver to basically push this off. However, I was just able to use my fingers and it came off very easy. And so there you go. You're just gonna have a little bit of residual oil so keep track of that. And you can slide it and this will pop out as well. So, these are the points you're gonna be using to connect to your catch can. Right next to your manifold is gonna be where the catch can settles on, where it's gonna bolt into. So, this bolt right here is a 15-millimeter and that's where we're gonna use our socket set. As you can see, I've already loosened her out. And once you get most of that out, you can just hand thread it to remove. And that is where it's going to insert. This is where you need that Allen wrench because it's gonna go inside of there to tighten into that guy. Again, it is an 8-millimeter Allen wrench. Basically, you'll just support it and you can hand thread this in until it requires you to use the hand wrench. And this catch can is gonna seat right in between this wiring. And you'll know when it falls in and it's level because they designed this to have a bar that'll stabilize the catch can. So, it's gonna be level. So, you don't have to worry about having it level so it all drains down evenly. And so we'll continue to keep threading this bolt in. And at this point, I'm gonna have to start with my wrench. And it's basically righty-tighty, lefty-loosey.Once that's done, you just wanna make sure it's nice and snug. You do not have to put Loctite. It's not going anywhere. It's on there good to go, rock and roll. So, the next thing we have to do is we have to insert our inlet and outlet hoses. And again, down here is where it all gets contained in. So, we'll go ahead and remove this linkage here. And I guess I'll start with the long tube first. That just seems like it's gonna be the way to go. And then we'll do the shorter one.So here is the long tube out of the package. Again, this is the long tube. And as you can see, I installed my hose clamps. Now you don't really have to install hose clamps. However, why not cover your butt? So, I did it on here and on the end as well. So, we'll go ahead and we'll thread this in and it's gonna be nice and snug. So, when using these hose clamps, you're pretty much just...it's overkill but why not do it? And it's sitting snugly, the hose is. And we clamped it down just nice and snug. Doesn't have to be too tight. And then again, you're gonna do the same thing connecting it all the way down to the inlet. We have the top connected. Again, it's sitting snugly and it fits snugly in there. You'll feel it when you push it in. You can feel that it has resistance. And then you'll put your clamp on to tighten it. Just make sure it's snug. Nothing too crazy. And then the last item is gonna be doing the short end here for the outlet. The outlet with the packaging...you're gonna be using the adapter they gave you. And again, it's gonna go half way as you see right here on the marking. And you just have to, you know, prod it in. And it's basically the same item as this. So that's the next way. As you see, it's in half way. You will a pop when it gets in there and that lets you know that the adapter is in correctly. And I'm not gonna use the hose clamp for this because I don't have the right sizing. This is just a little bit thicker but I will use it on this outlet valve here. And so, we'll go ahead and connect our hose. And so, you can see we put the clamp down. Again, nice and snug. Nothing too tight. And this will move. You can move it and adjust it to work for you. And so, this is gonna move until we can position it into there. And we'll basically do the same thing we did for this. So, the line was fit in snugly. We put our hose clamp on. And we wanna check the angle of this to make sure it's not, you know, kinking itself and it's not, as you can tell. And then we'll put the cover back on. Again, it just goes on on top of these two and it'll fit snugly and you'll know when it's in. And so, this whole process took me about 15 minutes. Cover fit back on. Beautiful. The hose just goes right above the motor. So, you don't have to worry. This is nice and snug. It ain't going nowhere. That completes installation. Enjoy.Justin: So, wrapping everything up here, guys.
