      Hey guys, it's Sara with americanmuscle.com. And today, we have a review and install of the American Brothers Design Black Oil Catch Can with the SRT Logo, fitting your '09 and newer Dodge Challenger with the 5.7 or 6.4-liter Hemi. This is perfect for the Challenger owner who wants to protect their engine from the effects of blow-by and have a convenient way to remove it from their system. Now, if you're not sure what blow-by is, it's a fuel/oil and sometimes carbon mixture that doesn't get burnt up in your engine and is rerouted back into your intake. This is done by manufacturers for emissions reasons, and it's common in most modern engines. However, this can gunk up your valves and shorten the life of your engine over time, so adding a catch can is a wise investment. This catch can reduces the amount of blow-by being reintroduced into your engine trapping it in the catch can. It features a two-piece design with a removable base for ease of emptying. Inside of this catch can is a 304 stainless mesh in the inlet, as well as the bottom of the can. There's also a baffle inside to ensure that oil and air separates from one another, and the oil is trapped inside the catch can. This kit features a 6061 billet aluminum can with a black finish, as well as a black bracket and all the necessary hardware, lines, and fittings needed for install.So, as far as price goes, this kit comes in at around $250, making it a great way to protect your investment. Now there are lower-priced options available, but often they only include the can itself or come as a universal kit, which you have to cut and mount up on your own. This is a complete kit that features a direct plug-and-play install. And speaking of the install, I'm giving this one a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It does feature a direct plug-and-play and bolt-up install as I said before, utilizing some of your factory fittings. All in all, it can be completed within one hour, so let's check out that install.For this install, you will need a ratchet, a 15-millimeter socket, an 8-millimeter Allen key or Allen socket, a 15-millimeter wrench, and you may want a flat-head screwdriver. And the first step in our uninstall, we're gonna remove this stud right here on the front of the water pump area. This is right underneath the intake. We have a 15-millimeter socket. Go ahead and get it removed. Next up, we're gonna remove this line out of this rubber boot, right on the front of the intake manifold area. Just go ahead and pull back to remove this line. Grab the other side of this line and twist it out of the rubber boot on the other end. We will also have to remove this rubber boot as well. This one might be on here a little bit tighter. So if you need to, you can use a flat-head to just coax it off a little bit, break that seal from the rubber to the plastic, and then go ahead and twist it off. Then next up, we can start to mount the can itself. Go ahead and line it up on the car. You'll be bolting to that place we took that stud out earlier, and then we have our bolt here. We're gonna go in the opening, and this is a recessed style bolt. So we'll go completely into the bracket of the can. Then with an 8-millimeter Allen key or Allen socket, go ahead and tighten it down. Now, before we put our lines on, it's a good idea to check that these fittings are nice and snug. You don't wanna overtighten them because they are aluminum, but just make sure that they're not gonna move when we go to install our lines.And now that these fittings are tight, you can grab this longer line, go ahead and slide it over that valve fitting. You can twist to get it in place. And now, you can take the other side of that line and slide it over the plastic fitting on the back of your intake. Now, we have the smaller line, and we're gonna slide it over this other fitting on the can. Again, you wanna make sure that the fitting is nice and tight. Then once you have this line fully installed, we can install the fitting in the other end. I'm just gonna slide the fitting down into our hose, and slide the other end of the fitting into that factory boot. To empty the can, reach underneath, twist the base. Sort of how you would unscrew an oil filter. The base will come off. Inside you can see the mesh, and then you'll empty your can. And then replace it on the lid.All right, so that is gonna do it for the review and install of this catch can kit. And remember, for all things Challenger, keep it at americanmuscle.com.
