Joe: Hey, guys. It's Joe from AmericanMuscle, and today we're going to be taking a closer look at the Bama X4 SF4 Power Flash Tuner with two custom tunes fitting all '18 and newer Mustang GTs. Now, this is gonna be a great option for you if you're looking to improve power and drivability of that third-gen Coyote with some great tunes as well as get some great tools that a tuner like this one can offer all at a budget-friendly price tag.So before we dive into the device itself, why don't we talk a little bit about dyno numbers? I know that's what you guys want to hear. That's what I want to talk about. So why don't we let the Bama tune speak for themselves? So what do we do for our tests? Well, '18 GT, it's a manual car. It also has the performance pack. So 3.73 gears in the rear, 93 octane for both the before and after run. And for our baseline, we put down 424 horsepower, 385 foot-pounds of torque at the rear wheels. Then we uploaded our 93 race tune. We put down 436 horsepower and 394 foot-pounds of torque, and that is good for peak gains of 12 horsepower and 9 foot-pounds of torque and under the curve, which gets even better, we put down 18 horsepower and 25 foot-pounds of torque. Some pretty respectable gains out of our Coyote there, 1825 under the curve. That's definitely something that you're gonna feel off the line. Twenty-five horsepower low down in that RPM range, that's definitely something that's going to make a difference in the driving characteristics of your '18 or newer GT. So definitely a decent upgrade there, a little bit of extra horsepower that Ford left on the table with that factory tune and on top of that you're even gonna feel a little bit better throttle response as well as firmer shifts for any automatic cars out there. Now that we know what this thing can do, let's talk a little bit about how the process is gonna go. Basically, what can you expect when you buy one of these things and what makes this different than the rest of the tuners out there? Well, when you buy this, first thing's first, Bama is going to send you a short questionnaire to fill out. They're gonna ask you some facts. Is your car an auto? Is it a manual? What's your computer code? Stuff like that. Then they're gonna ask you if you have any mods done to your Coyote. That'll include cold air intakes, bigger mass airflow sensors, cams, injectors, fuel pumps, exhaust, rear gears, bigger rear tires, stuff like that. You guys get the idea. To wrap things up, they're gonna ask you what octane levels do you want for your two tunes. Obviously we did our numbers on 93. If you're looking to get the most gains, go with 93. However, make sure that is available in your area first. If not, go with the 91. Eighty-nine is a good middle ground and 87 for all out efficiency. After Bama has all that information, it's gonna take them two to three days to actually write and nail down the tune, at which point they get emailed out to you if you plug your tuner into your PC and drag and drop some files over. It's as simple as that and then you can go over to your Mustang and upload the tunes. One thing I do want to note is this is gonna keep your stock file. When you upload a tune, it's gonna pull that off and store it on the device. So if you do ever need a revert, it's gonna be right there for you. All in all, a really rather simple process to get some custom tunes onto your Mustang. Making things even easier this is even Wi-Fi capable, so once you connect it to your network, updates are gonna flow right to the export without ever needing to plug it into a computer again. Now if you do decide to go with the X4 when you purchase this device, you'll also be enrolled in Bama's Free Tunes For Life program. Now as an '18 GT owner myself, I know very well that the modifications for Mustang never stop. There's plenty of them out there and we add to our builds over time and our tunes should be able to grow with that and that is something that Bama definitely understands. If you do get a new mod that requires a new tune, all you're gonna have to do is submit another form to Bama, again it's gonna take them two to three days but they'll email you back a brand new one, accommodating for that tune and again that's gonna be great to allow your Mustang build to continue to grow and the Bama tunes are going to continue to grow with it.Some other great features about the X4, this guy is also data lock capable, so if you do need those file revisions, you can offload files to your computer using this cable in the middle right here. It also features a full color, 3 inch LCD display, which you could do in portrait or landscape mode and that is a great feature because this offers real time vitals readouts for your Mustang. That's going to include but not limited to air-fuel ratio, intake and coolant temp, boost if you're going forced induction and ignition timing, so definitely some great readouts there to monitor the vitals of your Mustang. On top of that, it also works as a diagnostic tool allowing you to read and clear those DCTs or diagnostic trouble codes, better known to you guys probably as check engine lights. So pricing for the X4 and the two custom tunes, it's going to drop in right around the $400 mark and that makes this one of the most budget-friendly ways to get some custom tunes on your GT. Definitely well worth the money. Not only are you picking up some of that power that Ford left on the table with their factory tune, but you get some great tools on top of that, so definitely a good investment. Again, if you're just starting your build, this is going to be able to grow with you. If you have a lot of mods done, this is going to accommodate those and get the most amount of power out of your Mustang possible. Well worth the money. The install for this is going to be really, really simple. One out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. You don't even need to open the hood to get this done. Plugs right into the OBD2 port with this cable right here. At most to get this up and running I think it'll take you about 15 minutes. We're gonna show you a clip on one of our S550s. Keep in mind, doesn't matter which S550 you're doing it on, they are all a member of the same generation and the process is going to be identical for each. So without any further ado, let's head over to the Mustang. We're gonna show you exactly how to upload a tune and what the X4 can do.Man: Guys, first up here, grab the harness included in the kit. You're gonna plug in this side to the OBD2 port located on the left side under your driver side dashboard. Once that's plugged in take the other side, pop it into the slot on the top of your X4 and we're good to get started. All right, from the main menu, I'm gonna take you guys through the process of tuning your vehicle. So select program vehicle from that main menu, continue on the street notice, put your key in the on position, don't start your engine and press continue. Now it'll give you a bunch of different options to actually modify any tune you select. We're gonna go with 93 race, but select the one that you want to flash now. At this point, it will move forward asking you if you want to make any additional changes. There's a bunch of menus relating to that, so make the changes you want. We're gonna keep our file pretty much the same that it comes with from Bama. All right, so you want to change anything you see on this menu and hit approve. Continue to special options including tire size, things like that. So did you change your tire size? We did not. Don't want to change the gear ratio and no on the TPMS settings, confirm that it will disable your preloaded tune and move forward. All right. Key in the on position if you haven't done so already and it'll save your stock tune to the device and then begin to flash. It'll load 0 to a 100 a couple of times. Just let it do its thing. Don't unplug it and don't turn the vehicle off unless it directs you to. All right. At this point it lets us know the download's complete. You can select done and you're good to go.Before we disconnect, I want to take you through some of the other features of the X4. So if you go under program vehicle gauges and data log is your next selection. You wanna make sure the key is on before you move any forward. What this will do is allow you to monitor live engine vitals on the fly at any time as long as your device is plugged in. Now it's more of a gauge pod, but there's multiple pods, multiple gauges. As you can see on the screen, we have two. They're both the same at the moment, but they are customizable. Now if you go to the right, you can data log, you can record a data log, select the data log files, select gauge layout. I'm gonna change that gauge layout to something we can monitor three pieces of information with. Now we have boost and PSI, control module voltage and coolant temp but you can change those like I said. So in EcoBoost, you might want to monitor boost, control module voltage, coolant temp, those are all customizable. If I want a change coolant temp to intake air temp, we can hit approve on that and it changes that gauge. You can monitor up to eight at a time. If you want to select the gauge layout that monitors eight, this is the max. Now it's really useful for guys who want to take care of that information on the fly and again you can record data logs, send it to your tuner, make revisions, so on and so forth. Now if you hit stop data log it takes you back to the main menu.Under that, vehicle functions, read DTC codes, clear DTC codes and special functions. Now DTC being diagnostic trouble code so if your check engine light comes on, plug this device in, read the code, get the description and then you can clear it once it's taken care of. No need to pick up any additional device. Special functions most people won't touch, cam relearn, cam reset, those we'll leave be for now. Most people aren't gonna have to worry about that.Vehicle info. This is useful if you're requesting a new tune, if you need access to your VIN number, your ECU strategy code, that's going to be on hand. Device info, similar, but for your X4 you'll have the part number, serial number, the firmware and software version, how many unlocks you have, if your status is married and so on and so forth. And then finally device settings. You can check for updates both plugged in or via Wi-Fi, which I think is very useful. Wi-Fi, if you're in range of the Wi-Fi network, you can connect that to do everything wirelessly. The only big difference here between this and the newer Rev-X is there are no cloud capabilities. So everything's done on the computer as far as downloading tunes. But if you're not too worried about that wireless aspect of it, the X4 is still a really good device. The rest of the settings are pretty much simple for any handheld, brightness, orientation. You can change the landscape, you can change the theme from red to blue, you can change to dark. There's a number of settings there. There's also audio so every time you click a button, there's a little beep. You can turn that off here, and that way you don't have to worry about that sound. Finally, startup function I think is very useful for guys who are always going to want to monitor those gauges that we looked at, the gauges and data log screen. You can select your startup to go immediately to the gauges screen. So if you have this constantly plugged into your OBD2 and you have it mounted on the windshield, this might be a good thing to take advantage of. Finally, factory reset. We hit exit, back to the main menu and that's your X4.Joe: Guys, that's gonna do it from my overview of the X4 for '18 and newer GTs. As always, for this product and more great ones like it, keep it right here at AmericanMuscle.

Easy to Load; Easy to Restore. When you load your custom tune on the vehicle, the tuner automatically stores your vehicle's factory settings. To return the vehicle to its factory settings, just plug the tuner back in, select the option to restore the factory settings, and you're done. This is ideal for visiting dealerships for warranty work.
