    Review & Install Video

Hey, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I'm breaking down BBK Tuned Length Shorty Headers available in your choice of either ceramic or chrome, fitting all 2011 and up Mustang GTs. So why would you want to use a set of shorty headers, versus a set of long tubes? Well basically, a shorty setup is going to be less expensive, and much easier to install versus a set of long tubes. This is due to the fact that shortys for the most part are a direct bolt-on, meaning you won't have to modify your Mid Pipe, like you would using a set of long tubes. Now, will shortys perform just as good or better than a set of long tubes? Probably not, but it's still going to be a solid upgrade over your restrictive factory manifolds. These headers feature what BBK refers to as their tune-length runner design, which makes them a hybrid between a standard shorty header, and a set of long tubes. Now in the end, BBK claims more horsepower than a standard shorty header, all while maintaining the ability to be a direct bolt-on, no-modification-needed install. Taking a closer look at the headers, you can see they both feature 1-and-3/4" Mandrel-bent tubing, and laser cut flanges for an OEM quality fit. Now as I mentioned earlier, you do have the options of picking these headers up in your choice of either a ceramic, or chrome finish. So, what are the differences between the two finishes? Well, as you can see for one, looks. The chrome option is a little brighter initially, but that's going to change as these headers heat cycle, eventually turning that bright silver into a dark copper color. On the other hand, you have the ceramic coated option, which will remain that bright silver throughout their lifespan. Secondly, that ceramic coating is going to act as a great insulator helping keep under-hood temperatures down to a minimum, which is always great for performance. Now those added benefits do come at a cost, as ceramic coatings are typically more expensive than stainless or chrome options. Now as I mentioned earlier, installing a set of shorty headers is a lot easier than a set of long tubes, but even still, I would leave yourself a full day just to tackle the install, just in case anything goes wrong. Either way, you can always contact your local shop if you get stuck, they should be able to help you out. So if you're looking for a simple bolt-on header with the installation and price benefits of a shorty header, with the performance to back it up, then be sure to check out BBK's Tuned Length Shorty Headers right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Tuned Length Design. BBK Shorty "Tuned Length" Headers out perform both the factory manifolds and regular shorty headers. Tuned Length Headers have a unique extended tubular design that allows for unrestricted exhaust flow to increase horsepower and torque. Perfect for street and strip.

Silver Ceramic Coating. These Tune Length Headers are completed in BBK's Polished Silver Ceramic Coating that not only looks great, but reduce under hood temperatures to help increase horsepower and extend the life of the headers. Ceramic Coated headers will long out last both chrome plated and polished headers.

Quality BBK Construction. BBK Shorty Tuned Length Headers are manufactured from 1-3/4" CNC mandrel bent tubing for unrestricted airflow. And feature one piece laser cut 3/8" header flanges for additional strength, leak-free performance and a OEM fit. The headers are then finished with BBK's high-temp Silver Polished Ceramic Coating for good looks and to lower under hood temperatures.

Application. Designed as a direct bolt on, these BBK Shorty Tuned Length Headers will bolt straight up in the stock location to the factory Mid-Pipe without any modifications on both automatic and manual 2011-2014 GT Mustangs to improve exhaust flow and sound.

Technical Notes. These BBK Headers are CARB certified (CARB EO Number: D-245-16) and 50 state legal.

Using the Pypes X-Pipe, along with the Pypes Pype-Bomb super system cat-back exhaust. Will the BBK shorty headers fit with those products?

    • These BBK Ceramic Tuned Length Shorty Headers should work as long as the Pypes X-Pipe you have is one designed for shorty headers. If you're currently using the X-Pipe with stock headers, these headers would work.

Are these headers california smog legal? What if i use them with a borla s-type catback and airaid intake (item 52104) with no tune? Is that still smog legal? Would a tune be required for these modifications all together?

    • These headers are CARB legal under CARB EO Number D-245-16. As long as the other mods you install as also CARB legal, these will remain CARB legal. These headers also do not require any custom tuning.

      Great quality product

These headers look great under the hood, though according to my shop they were a hassel to install. Not much change in exhaust volume over all but I do notice it's a little louder in the low end. Small change in tone, definitely a little deeper than it used to be. Definitely recommend a shop install it, doing it yourself is not for the faint of heart.

      Takes time to break in

At first there wasn’t a noticeable difference when installing the headers, but after a couple hundred miles you can hear the difference. It’s good if you want to keep everything “legal” in California.

      A must have addition!

I got a little over excited on my shopping spree (who hasn't had that happen) and picked these up by mistake instead of the V6 version needed for my own pony. BBK's shorty headers gave my '13 V6 solid extra power between 0-60 mph. Feeling that momentum push you deeper into the seat is a lot of fun all by itself, but what adds extra value is how these shorty headers create a more deep, rich sound in the exhaust note. This is a must have addition for anyone looking for more low end power and making heads turn while using it!

      Get Long Tubes!

There’s nothing wrong with this product, it’s a direct bolt on and quality construction. It was very hard and time consuming installing these and when I pulled out my old exhaust manifolds they looked identical. After the install there was not much of a difference. I recommend if you’re going to do your headers just go ahead and spend the extra money for some long tube headers because these are a waste of time and money.

      Bbk shorty headers

Can have long tubes and be smog legal here in California so i had to get the next best thing. I had a shop do the install they said they didnt have no problems and everything mounted up good with no leaks. I did notice a little sound change and did notice more throttle response and look great so I'm happy

      Great headers, craptasitc gaskets!

This is my first bbk product. The headers were kind of annoying to install but they look great, sound great, and improve performance a bit. My issue was the collector gasket by the cats blew not even 100 miles after the break in period. Not very happy I had to buy new ones...

LOOK NICE, NOT MUCH SOUND DIFFERENCE

I HAD MY MECHANIC INSTALL THESE ON MY 2012 COYOTE ALONG WITH AN X-PIPE. INSTALL TIME IS APPROX SIX HOURS, NOT TWO. THEY LOOK MUCH NICER THAN THE OLD FACTORY PIPES, IMPROVED THROTTLE RESPONSE AND A BIT MORE PICKUP THAN IT HAD BEFORE. GOOD PRODUCT, LOOKS GREAT BUT DONT EXPECT HUGE PERFORMANCE GAINS WITH HEADERS ALONE.THEY WOULD GO NICELY WITH OTHER MODS. NOT A BIG SOUND CHANGE FROM WHAT I HAD BEFORE BUT THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.

noticeable improvement in sound and fury

BBK shorties are everything they were advertised to be. Nice change in the exhaust note and better responsiveness. Major pain to install. If you have a shop install these headers, which I highly recommend, get ready to dish out some bucks. The labor estimate is 7 hours. I'm paying more for the installation than I did for the part. Still, I knew that going in. I'm very happy with the results.

      Daily Driving/Red Light Racer

Here in California our options can be limited when it comes to any performance part...namely headers! Luckily BBK is literally right up the road from me so it was simple choosing a brand that is 50 state legal, and a brand that I`ve known well. Anyhoo, went a few towns up and had these installed by a shop in Irvine. Took them a full days work. In their words "headers...suck!" Driving the car after installation, I instantly heard a deeper growl come from the ole girl...and I mean deeep! She literally snarls now. Amazing what these do over stock. Butt dyno says small bump in hp and tq; can`t really feel much but its there. In any case, can definitely tell the car breathes a lot better now. The needle definitely reaches 80mph a little easier than before. Ofcoarse this is all without a tune so that jolt will come soon enough. Originally paired these with an x pipe and the Roush AB`s, but I didn`t like the x, they toned down the Roush too much. My opinion, no one buys the Roushes for a subtle note. So had an custom h pipe installed and man oh man...she growls louder now! Head turning for sure and I`m smiling ear to ear!

      Good product, but installation...

When i received my headers, i read the installation instruction and it says 2 hrs. It did not look too difficult so me and my friend (a mecanic) started it a wednesday night at around 18h00 in his shop equipped with a lift. One of the first instruction was to remove the steering linkage at the rack and pinion, but no go... We try to work around but there is no room. After a few hours, my friend took a bracket off inside the car at the firewall and we finally removed the linkage. That was not in the instruction... Anyway, that was a pain to install the driver side header and tought it would be easier on the co-driver side but it was worst. Even less room! We spent the night working and barely made it out of the shop in time at 07h30...

      Great product

I'm very happy with this product. It gave my mustang a very nice sound and it gave a good gain all throughout the powerband (~10hp/tq). The shop that did the install said they fit very well. Also the quality of the headers were top notch. My favorite part about them is that they don't require a tune. Great product!

Get someone else to install these

I purchased a number of bolt on modifications that I started installing on a Saturday. One of these mods was the BBK chrome shorty headers. I started at about 8 in the morning and by 1pm I had the intake manifold, throttle body, cai, and mufflers all done. It took me from 1pm to 9pm to remove the stock header and install the BBK header...just for the driver side, and that was the easy part. I worked 4 nights after that from 5pm-9pm trying to replace the passenger side header. It just didn't fit, and there was nothing that I could move, unbolt, bend, etc. that would make it fit. The starter housing and the side of the car are just too close together. I just happened to get that one lucky twist that got it through. Granted, I have an automatic, so the install for a standard might be a little easier, I don't know. However, if you own an automatic DON'T TRY THIS ON YOUR OWN. The video skips the hardest parts of the install, so don't base your install time off of that either. I will say that once installed, these headers are great. I can certainly hear a difference, and I think that they add a healthy number to the power increase that I get with all the other mods.

      BBK Shorty Headers

Headers seem like a quality product and fit well. The only real problem was BBK sends only 5 header to engine bolts because you use existing studs on remaining bolts and the 5 bolts they sent were entirely the wrong thread. Fortunately for me i tried to run them in with fingers and discovered this before trying to install header and went to NAPA and got the correct bolts. Absolutely couldn,t believe BBK could make such a mistake. Repeated calls (and messages) to head tech went unanswered. Still pleased with quality of headers and extremely happy with AM,s selection, great prices, and fast shipping!
