    Review & Install Video

Hey everybody, I'm Justin with americanmuscle.com. This is my quick breakdown of the BBK chrome one and five-eighth inch long tube headers available for your '79 and '93 manual 5 liter Foxbody. Before we get into all the specifics here with these BBK long tube headers, I want to offer a friendly reminder to subscribe to our YouTube channel if you haven't done so already for the most in depth product reviews on the web in addition to the best Mustang content. These particular long tubes from BBK do feature the one and five-eighth inch primary or tubing, all of which has been mandrel bent to help increase the flow and increase your performance. The one and five-eighth version I have here with me today is definitely going to be the most popular offering for most street cars or even cars with a pretty decent amount of power pushing nitrous or forced induction. I do want to point out that BBK does offer a one and three-quarter version of this same exact header, but unless you're gunning for big power through big cubic inches or big boost, I would stick with the one and five-eighth version here for cars making 500 horsepower or less. As you can see, these long tubes do feature that nice, bright chrome finish which will no doubt look good underneath the hood of your Foxbody. For a few bucks more, guys, you can spring for the optional ceramic coating which will make this finish slightly more durable, and it is going to help reduce under hood temp slightly. Guys, this is a great time to remind you that these long tubes will only fit your manual 5 liter Foxbody. So, if you have an automatic car or if you're just interested in different finishes or sizing options, well then you should definitely head back to the product page at americanmuscle.com if you're not there already. Getting into some of the smaller yet equally important details, BBK does include laser cut flanges with all their headers making for an OEM-like fit. They even toss in brand new hardware and exhaust manifold gaskets just to save you guys a trip to the parts store. Installing a brand new set of long tubes onto your Mustang can be a little intimidating to say the least. If you don't think you have the mechanical skills or the tools to get the job done, don't hesitate to reach out to your local shop. On the other hand, if something like this is just another day in the garage for you, well then leave yourself about a full day in the garage to get the job done. Don't hesitate to reach out to a Mustang expert if you should have any questions. Before we wrap up this overview, I do want to remind you that when you do use a set of long tubes like the BBKs here, you will need to address your midpipe because the factory midpipe will no longer work. In this case, of course, BBK recommends going with their shorty midpipe which is available on the site here in both X or H pipe configurations. Either way, if you do have any more questions about this, again, just reach out to a Mustang expert anytime. If you're looking for a set of long tube headers for your push rod 5.0 at a very fair price then you have to check out the one and five-eighth inch chrome long tube headers from BBK available here at americanmuscle.com.

Increase horsepower and torque. Bolt on extra horsepower and torque that you can feel throughout the entire RPM band with a set of BBK Long Tube Headers. These BBK Chrome Long headers will improve your mustangs exhaust flow increasing your pony's horsepower and torque.

Quality Construction. BBK crafted these Long Tube Headers to last using one piece laser cut 3/8" flanges, free flowing mandrel-bent 1 5/8" CNC mandrel bent tubing and are completed with BBK's show quality bright chrome finish.

Application. Designed to fit the 1979-1993 5.0L Mustangs with a manual transmission. These BBK headers include high-quality mounting hardware, gaskets, and instructions. The BBK long tube headers require a flanged end shorty midpipe in order to function properly. BBK recommends using a BBK shorty H-Pipe or X-Pipe for the best performance gains.

Technical Note. This BBK product is not legal for use in emission restrictive states.

If got a 1985 mustang gt roller doing a 289ci swap with the old toploader 4 speed manual transmission will these headers work ?

Was wandering if these fit gt40p heads or which headers do

    • The BBK 1-5/8 in. Chrome Long Tube Headers will not fit the GT40P Heads. At this time, the only headers we offer that would work are the MAC 1-5/8 in. Ceramic Unequal Length Shorty Headers for GT-40P Heads linked below: https://www.americanmuscle.com/mac-ceramic-unequal-shorty-7993-gt40p.html

Will these fit well with the Bassani off road X pipe?

    Stephen

    • The BBK 1-5/8 in. Chrome Long Tube Headers will need to be used with a matching BBK Shorty mid pipe to accommodate for the relocated header exit on the long tube headers. Every brand will have a unique design to their long tubes, so you must match brand for brand.

BBK needs to step up their chrome process

I bought a set of chrome long tubes, and while at first glance they looked amazing, upon further attention, there was deep scaly rust down where the four tubes meet at the collector on them. I returned them and exchanged them for ceramic coated headers. American muscle was way more than helpful and it took no time at all to get things back in order.

      Great performance adder

Product was a rather easy install. Between my friend and I, we got it installed in less than a couple of hours. New h-pipe as well. The power difference was noticeable for sure on the bottom end. And sound was amazing. Would definitely recommend this to anybody.

Ok these are great headers if you are prepared to 1 pull your starter to fit passenger side 2 pull the motor mounts and jack up the engine 3 driver side goes in from underneath with the car jacked up about a foot 4 the O2 sensors need extentions or cut and rewire overall 4.5 stars

      Awesome - easy install

I have been building my 93 notchback and just complemented it with a custom build 302 stroker motor, during this project I have relied on the availability of parts and American muscle has been a valuable resource, the BBK headers wear a perfect fit with the BBK system already on the car.. Since the engine was out they were a breeze to install and lined up perfectly with the heads. Once the motor was in, they reconnected with the system in a snap! Great product...

Pretty good, but chorme disappears fast!

Bought these hoping they'd make a huge difference in torque. Was right, ended up dropping a whole 3 tenths of my 1/8 mile time. However, when putting them in, it is neccessary to remove the passenger side valve cover to slide the header in. It will NOT fit otherwise and you'll chip and scar the valve cover if you try. These are extremely sturdy headers and gaskets, havent had to replace them since I put them on in june of 2011. (its now december 2011). Also, they say the bbk h pipe is a direct bolt on... it is and ISN'T. It will take some muscle to get the holes to line up and thus connected. Final answer, WOULD reccomend buying so take the plunge!

Great sound, looks, and performance increase.

These headers sound great and noticeably increase your power. But by far the best thing about these headers is the noise. They sound great. It was night and day between these and my old ones. They even increased my average mpg! A few things to keep in mind- make sure you have a dual exhaust transmission crossmember. I have a 1984 mustang and didn't realize this until the time of install. Luckily it was an easy part to find. Other than that it was pretty easy. Buy these headers, you won't be disappointed. I get compliments all the time!

      Great budget long tubes!

While installation was straightforward, there were some clearance issues with these headers (steering shaft and k-member). One highly recommended part would be a heat shield for covering your starter, as the headers run close and could cause some heat damage. Overall, an awesome buy with excellent performance and awesome sound too!

      Glitches

Funtionality is no problem. The headers are just as they were written up to be. I expected some minor difficulties with installation so no problem there either. I was a bit surprised that there was not more care about the finishing of the welds, deburring etc... before applying the chrome finish. I really think you could have done a much better job there.

      Good Deal

I purchased these headers because i needed a quality replacement for my old stock ones. By myself it took about 7-8 hours to install but it was well worth it. They came with all the necessary hardware and gaskets and sound amzing. I made the mistake of not buying 02 extenders but other than that they really are a great deal and i have no problems with the fit in the tight engine bay.
