    Review & Install Video

Hey, guys, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and this is my detailed review of the Borla ATAK Catback Exhaust System with Y-Pipe available for your 2015 and up EcoBoost Mustang. The ATAK from Borla is going to be for the EcoBoost owners out there who have some money to drop on a top-quality system from a name like Borla and want one of the loudest and most aggressive systems available for their turbo four-cylinder Mustang. I'm talking a ton of volume here, guys, a ton of turbo noise. Basically, if you want to be heard, this should be on your short list of systems to consider. Borla is and always has been a premium exhaust brand in the market and that certainly hasn't changed here with their S550 offerings. Now because of that, expect to pay premium top-dollar. Upwards of 1200 bucks to be exact with this system here. But keep in mind, guys, you are getting a superb build quality and materials. And one thing I really do enjoy about the Borla systems is the amount of options they give you. For instance, for the 2015 and up EcoBoost cars, you're getting the Borla Touring, which is going to be their milder of the three options. Right in the middle you're getting the Borla S-Type or Stinger. And then finally, we have the ATAK here which is by far and away their loudest and most aggressive system. But again, all three of those options are going to offer a little something different and should appeal to just about anyone. Now ATAK isn't just a cool name, guys. It actually stands for Acoustically Tuned Applied Kinetics, and it's Borla's fancy way of saying this thing is going to be loud, but it's not going to get sloppy or distorted the louder it gets. And as you guys heard earlier with the sound clip, this thing definitely delivers. In fact, expect a full five out of five on my one to five or one to wake-the-neighbors scale. Basically, if you're looking for a system that's going to keep things quiet on your EcoBoost, the ATAK is not for you. As I did mention earlier, guys, you are getting top quality here when dealing with the Borla, but you probably expect that when forking out over a thousand bucks for a system like this. Premium 304-grade stainless steel throughout, guys. The included Y-Pipe here. Two and a quarter inch mandrel-bent tubing. It's a little small for me; I would have preferred to see something a little bigger with a turbo car, but definitely not a deal-breaker. Of course, we have the patented ATAK series mufflers here from Borla, all exiting out the four-inch polished tips embossed with that Borla logo. All right guys, now when forking out top dollar for a system like the Borla here, of course, you expect that great quality, but you should also expect this thing to bolt up without any issues and the Borla definitely doesn't disappoint there. This thing practically put itself together on our EcoBoost, so expect a simple one-out-of-three wrench overall difficulty job here guys. Anyone should be able to knock this one out in the garage or driveway. Now getting that factory system down from your EcoBoost car, it's all one piece. It can be a little cumbersome. So an extra set of hands is not necessary, but it would certainly make life easier in this case. Either way for you, a few basic hand tools guys. A socket set, a few wrenches, maybe an hour or two again, in the shop or garage, and you should be able to get this thing in place in no time. All right guys, wrapping this one up. If you're after one of the loudest and most aggressive systems available for your EcoBoost-powered Mustang, then the ATAK from Borla should definitely be on the short-list of systems to consider for your ride and you can pick yours up right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Loud Aggressive Sound. Add a touch of Borla excellence to your turbocharged S550 EcoBoost Mustang with an "ATAK" catback exhaust system. A Borla "ATAK" catback system will significantly increase exhaust flow over the restrictive stock exhaust system for a dramatic increase in rear wheel horsepower and an aggressive muscle car sound that is not for the faint of heart.

ATAK. Acoustically-Tuned Applied Kinetics, is Borla's newest technology that produces the highest available dB (decibel) levels to pump the volume while retaining clarity of sound, avoiding distortion typically found in louder exhausts.

High Quality Construction. Manufactured from ultra smooth mandrel bent 2.25" diameter T-304 stainless steel tubing to improve exhaust flow, this Borla catback exhaust system includes a Y-pipe and features (2) race inspired "ATAK" mufflers with 4" chromed stainless steel tips that are embossed with the Borla logo for both impressive looks and great sound.

Application. This Borla ATAK Cat-Back Exhaust System is designed as a direct bolt on replacement for the 2015-2020 EcoBoost Fastback Mustangs without the Active Valve Exhaust. Not compatible on Convertible models.

        5 Top Rated Questions

What is the most aggressive exhaust I can find on the market for my Ecoboost It is hard to tell by the videos Thanks

        • The Borla ATAK Cat-Back Exhaust (15-17 EcoBoost) is going to be one of the more aggressive Exhausts you can get. The sound is quite distinct, so you will stand out from the bunch. A lot of big name brands tend to have the same tone to them. Borla makes a head turning Exhaust. I do recommend going on Youtube to watch different videos of the same Exhaust System. This will give you a better idea of what it actually sounds like.

Does this exhaust system come in black?

        • Unfortunately, the Borla ATAK Cat-Back Exhaust is only available with the Stainless Steel tips at the time. The exhaust system is not available in a black finish.

Is this exhaust legal in California? How loud is this exhaust? Will I get in trouble with the police?

        • The Borla ATAK Cat-Back Exhaust will install after all emissions control equipment, making this have no issues with smog testing or emissions. This is a fairly loud exhaust with an aggressive note, so depending on your local laws, this may violate sound ordinances.

Can/why would this one not fit on a V6?

        • Due to design differences between EcoBoost and V6 models, this exhaust will not bolt onto a V6 model as it would for its designed setup for the EcoBoost.

In order to not have any problems after installing the exhaust, is there any other mods required before installing this exhaust?

        • This would not require any other mods for the install.

            Just beautiful

Installed this on my 2016 ecoboost, and if you want to turn heads, this is what to get. I was debating between this and the less expensive exhausts and i am happy that i chose this. I wouldn’t want it any quieter.

Very Fun and Definitely a Nice Addition

Makes a huge difference when it comes to the sound from your car. Personally, I enjoy the sound of the Borla ATAK more than the popular MBRP Race. Only took me a couple hours to install myself and I have never personally done anything exhaust related before.

            Amazing

This exhaust is amazing, it really woke the car up. Everything fit perfectly. When cruising you can’t really hear it at around 2k RPMs but when you punch the throttle it screams and it sounds so good. Couldn’t be happier with the Borla ATAK.

            Mean sound

Rolling around at 2000 rpm the sound isn't all the aggressive. People can hear you coming but it's not a issue passing the 5-0. Throw the car into track or drag mode and it's a whole different story. This exhaust gives your car the sound of a built racecar. Accelerating all the way to to 4k and pulling off the throttle leaves all sorts of crack, Snapple and pop. Overall solid system and easy installation.

I was not sure weather these are loud enough. Took 1 hour to install, and the sound is perfect. Really loud, and makes great popping sound as well. I recommend these to everyone who wants to be heared on the road.

            Best exhaust for the money

This is the best sounding exhaust you can get for the money. Yes it’s a little pricier compared to others. It’s a famous name brand but you do get what you pay for. The packaging on this was great and everything was very secure. Install was not hard at all. The hardest thing about this exhaust is to get the tail pipes to look even. I suggest having a friend check as you rotate and adjust before tightening everything. The sound is great. It crackles and pops occasionally and when coasting with your foot off the gas you can hear it gurgle. Your never gonna get that v8 sound but this is as close as you can get for the money. If you wanna hear it even louder and crackle and scream add a downpipe to it. Just be warned it’s very loud.

            Borla ATAK Catback Exhaust

AWESOME. I was hesitant at first just because I didn't know if I was going to absurdly obnoxious but while being loud, it is very controlled and it sounds great. Inside the cabin there is minimal noise and zero drone on the freeway. It sounds way more mean and aggressive than an I4 but it doesn't change the feel of the car all too much, little peppier I feel but other than that the car feels the same. AMAZING product, Borla is the way to go. Gotta love it!

Great product, It Is very loud and aggressive just when you need it to be. It is quiet when idling, but when accelerating and driving it sounds great! No drone at all, and does not make the cabin ride uncomfortable at all. Overall a great product to add on to your Ecoboost for a more aggressive sound.

            Amazing

Amazing is the best word to describe this system. The ATAK by Borla delivers across the board. It basically fits together like LEGO pieces and then putting it on was the equivalent to hanging the hooks and tightening the bolts back on. The sound is perfect from the cold start, accelerating, and cruising. I’m not sure if the credit should go to Borla or Ford but inside of the cab is a great ride. Of course you can hear it when you’re driving; it’s described as the most aggressive system by Borla so that is expected but it’s not overwhelming and you won’t have to put the volume all the way up on the stereo just to listen to music. Hands down my favorite purchase I’ve made for my Mustang so far.

Buy this exhaust you owe it to yourself!!

I can’t tell you how much I love this exhaust at first I was going to skip it due to the loud meter but I can tell you it’s the right kind of loud it’s perfect doesn’t sounds cheesy or like a civic! This sounds like a proper Mustang. I love all the sounds this exhaust makes even the snap crackle pop! At cruising speeds it’s there but not intrusive. It’s really almost quit with a nice note now drone. Also I felt the car does feel lighter when accelerating. At first it felt like the car would kind of force itself to give power now it just flows like butter. I’m saying it’s worth every penny.

Best sound for 2018 mustang ecoboost

I'm a beginner. My friend and I spent 2 hours on installation and 1 hour on adjustment. The exhaust sound will change after a few weeks. It will become smoother and louder. The only thing you should care about is the adjustment of the exhaust. Many of my friends didn't install carefully or they didn't look back side of the car to adjust before they tight all the screws, so their axle pipes became tilted which isn't look good. I spent a couple of months selecting the exhaust and I believe Borla ATAK Cat-Back is the best exhaust for the 2018 Mustang Ecoboost.
