Justin: The C&L Performance Axle-Back shown here in black will be an affordable and unique way to really crank the volume on your 2015 through 2017 GT at home, thanks to that all-black finish. Now, the C&L will pack a full stainless steel build along with that black powder coat and these massive 4 1/2-inch tips, all for right around that high $300 price point. Install is going to involve some cutting here, guys, as is the case with any S550 axle-back. So, therefore, figure a middle-of-the-road two out of three wrenches on the old difficulty meter and a couple of hours or so to complete from start to finish. But, as always, hang with me for a bit, and we'll walk you through that job later in the video. But since this is an exhaust video, let's get right into the sound you can expect with the C&L system in place, and, listen, this axle-back is definitely gonna peg the bang-for-your-buck meter when we're talking about overall sound. Strong, very aggressive tone from the small perforated tube mufflers and one that I feel pretty confident in giving a soft four out of five on my one to five or "one to wake the neighbors" scale, which, let's be honest, is pretty stout for an axle-back by itself. Now, you do get a little bit of boom inside the car around that 2,000 RPM range on the highway, but it's, by no means, what I would consider one of the worst systems out there when we're talking about drone, in fact, pretty far from it. Now, if you ditch that factory resonator here and add your choice of an aftermarket X or H-pipe, and I have no doubt in my mind that this system would definitely peg that "wake the neighbor" scale at a strong five out of five. Now, the star of the sound comes from these small, straight-through by design mufflers that, to me, resemble kind of a mini ROUSH muffler for the same S550 GT. Now, again, those mufflers do utilize what is called a straight-through perforated tube design which is gonna pass through the mufflers' packing and, thus, kinda shape the sound, take a little bit of bite off of it, and make for a nice, deep thumping tone overall. Now, because of the straight-through design, you are going to be, of course, increasing your exhaust flow and volume, especially when compared to the more restrictive factory mufflers out there or even some of your aftermarket chamber designs. But aside from these tiny little mufflers here, you can also expect full 3-inch mandrel-bent tubing throughout, guys, all exiting out the massive 4 1/2-inch tips here which are a little bit longer than some of your other systems for the S550 GT which certainly is gonna help contribute to a more unique look once installed. Also contributing to that unique look is, of course, the fact that you're getting a full stainless steel system, but one that has been given this all-black powder coat. Even the clamps themselves are gonna be finished off in this satin black, and that's gonna really help contribute to that stealthy look that a lot of Mustang owners really dig. Now, again, stainless system here. Your tips are 304-grade stainless steel, so a solid build and one that should last a very long time without the fear of rust or corrosion. Now, we did briefly mention those clamps in black. Of course, the C&L does include a pair of clamps needed to make your connection here at the axle-back and, of course, to complete the installation. And, again, that will require some cutting in order to remove the factory cans and then get the new C&L option in place. There's really no way around this. That is the case with any S550 axle-back. And the only way to really avoid that is to go with a full-blown catback, but at that point, you're certainly gonna be spending a little bit more money. Now, to give you a better idea of just how the install will go down and where you need to cut, well, feel free to check out our detailed walk-through and tool breakdown right now.Man: Tools for this install: a Sawzall with a metal cutting blade, eye protection as well as hand protection, a 15-millimeter socket, an impact, and you may need an exhaust hanger removal tool. Now, the first step of this install would be to cut your muffler as well as your exhaust tip right at the 90-degree angle before it turns into your muffler. Now, the cut would be right about here before the turn into the muffler. Now, we won't be cutting our exhaust today because we do have to return this vehicle back to stock. However, we do have a pre-cut set of exhaust that we can show you how to get your new exhaust tips installed on.Now, again, you're gonna need to cut right here before the 90-degree on this side as well as the same on the following side. With your exhaust now cut, we can now put our axle-back exhaust up. We'll start by placing it in the hanger first and then placing it on the rest of our exhaust. Simply slide the post on your axle-back exhaust into the stock hanger. Take your kit-provided clamp, slide that over your exhaust, and get your new axle-back over that. We'll then take our 15-millimeter socket, and tighten our clamps down, and repeat that on the following side. With your clamps now secure, that's gonna wrap it up for our review and install of the C&L Sport Axle-Back Exhaust in Black fitting your '15 to '17 Mustang GT.
