Hey guys, Adam here with americanmuscle.com. And today, we're taking a closer look at, listening to, and installing the C&L sport Axle-Back Exhaust System with Black Tips, available for the 2018 to 2021 Mustang GT without active exhaust. Simply put, you should be checking this out if you're looking for one of the louder axle-backs in the category before getting to the loudest of the loud. As you just heard from our sound clips, I'm giving this guy four out of five on our loudness meter simply because this axle-back here has extremely small, straight-through mufflers that have very little baffling in them. The only thing that would make these axle-backs any louder is having no muffler at all and just being a straight pipe from the resonator back. This one here is gonna require cutting as do all axle-backs for this generation Mustang. The factory exhaust is one piece from the cats all the way back to the tips, so you're gonna have to cut off both of the mufflers. But I'll get to that in just a little bit.Now, as you did hear from our sound clips, this is gonna be one of the louder barks, especially a wide-open throttle. At idle, you get a really deep, aggressive, and throaty rumble. And honestly, at cruising speeds on the highway, you can expect little drone inside the cabin but nothing that'll blow your ears out. Again, it's not full five out of five. I'm giving it four out of five. Now, as you can see, these are black powder-coated from tip to tip. The entire muffler axle-back assembly is a black finish over top of a 3-inch 409 stainless steel. Now, that 3-inch 409 is that middle of the road material. It's not as expensive and protective as 304, but it's definitely better quality than aluminized. It's great for guys in wintery weather areas, seeing a lot of road salt in the winter months like we are here on the East Coast. Someone who wants just to keep the cost down a bit, but that black powder coating takes it further and adds corrosion and rust resistance.Now, of course, you're maintaining the factory-like quad tip design as you get from the '18 and newer Mustangs, but this time your tips are gonna be dual 4-1/2-inch tips on both sides. Now, the 4-1/2-inch tip is a little bit bigger than the factory one and we'll compare that next to each other in just a little bit. Now, the price tag for this comes in at right around 400 bucks. Again, one of the more affordable options in the axel-back category. It's not the cheapest, but it's not the most expensive, that 409 stainless stays right there in the middle. The install here, like I said earlier, does require cutting, got to cut off both of those mufflers on both sides. So I'm giving it three out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. But I got to admit, if you have a cutting tool that you're and using yourself, it's just two simple cuts and it can be done relatively quickly. I'd say it will take you about an hour, maybe an hour and a half from start to finish just because it's just one clamp on both sides. Once the cutting's out of the way, it slides right out of the hanger and you're gonna replace it in the reverse order. It's really simple, cut and clamp. With that said, I'll walk you through the entire process, but keep in mind, guys, our exhaust has already been cut and I'll explain that to you right now.Tools used in the install include an impact gun, extension, 13-millimeter and 15-millimeter deep sockets, and a cutting tool of your choice. Right off the bat, guys, I wanna talk about the uninstall. Now, the uninstall does require cutting your factory axle-back or your factory mufflers off of the entire cat-back since it is all one piece of the factory line. Now, it's not as hard as it sounds. If you have a Sawzall or a cutting tool of your choice on deck, all you're doing is making two cuts. Right where this weld comes off of the hanger under the rear subframe, just behind that, you're cutting that off. Now, that's a really easy cut, just a couple of minutes on both sides. Now, in the interest of saving our factory exhaust, instead of cutting and rewelding 100 times for video purposes, we already have a pre-cut exhaust that I'm gonna put on instead. That pre-cut exhaust is gonna prevent us from having to cut this again. But you guys at home are gonna wanna refer to the instruction manual included in the kit. Just double-check your cut before you cut. Measure twice, cut once is typically the saying. You're cutting right around that weld there on the back of the subframe. With that said, cut your exhaust off now. We'll drop the factory axle-back out of the way and we'll move on from there.So we got our factory axle-back off of our 2019 GT and it's on the ground here next to our C&L Sport Axle-Back. And I wanna take you through some similarities and differences. Right off the bat, guys, you can see that because we didn't cut our factory exhaust, we have it here all in one piece, but you guys should just have those factory mufflers off. Now, we have our pre-cut exhaust to my left with a new C&L axle-back on the end of that so you can see what the entire system will look like once it's all assembled from the factory, and once it's all assembled in your driveway with your new C&L. Now, you can see the first thing that you'll probably notice is the color. Now, the factory exhausts is that bare material and your new C&L option is actually 3-inch 409 stainless steel with a black powder-coated finish on top. Now, the tips there are gonna be a 4-1/2-inch quad tip. So you get two tips per muffler just like your factory exhaust, but the tips are gonna be a lot bigger and the black powder coating is gonna be a lot more aggressive. It's gonna look really good coming out the back end, especially with that matte black valance at the rear. Now, the next thing you'll probably notice is the size difference in mufflers. The factory muffler is an odd shape. It's absolutely massive in comparison. The new C&L Sport uses a really small single chamber muffler and it's gonna really give you that sound clip sound that you heard earlier on in the video.The only other thing that's affecting that sound is the factory resonator because that's still intact since this is just an axle-back. If you were to pick up a cat-back, usually you get a resonator delete, which would be an X-pipe or an H-pipe. Not gonna be the case here, still using that factory pipe. So really the big change is the muffler when it comes to sound and the tips when it comes to appearance. With that said, we're gonna use the new clamps included in the kit to get this thing bolted up. All right. So once you cut your axle-back off, it should look something like that. You're gonna take your new axle-back, put a clamp on the end, slide the hanger into the isolator above the tips, which is a little bit easier if you lubricate it. So if you need to, I recommend doing that. Once that's in there, bring up the pipe and connect it to the cut section of your factory pipe. Slide that guy on. Just make sure you have a clamp there. Line up the tips so they're even. Grab your 15 deep socket and tighten on that clamp. Repeat that exact same process on the other side.That's gonna wrap up my review and install for the C&L Sport Axle-Back Exhaust with Black Tips, available for the 2018 and newer Mustang GT without active exhaust.
