Justin: If you're looking for an affordable way to crank the volume on your 2015 through 2017 GT at home, well, then you'll definitely wanna give the C&L performance axle back a listen. Now, the C&L is gonna pack a full stainless build along with a straight-through muffler and massive 4-1/2-inch tips all for that mid to high $200 price point. Install will involve some cutting here, gang, as is the case with any S550 axle-back. So, therefore, figure a middle of the road two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and I would say a couple of hours or so to complete from start to finish. As always, hang with me for a bit, I'll walk you through that job later in the video. But let's get right into the sound you can expect with the C&L system in place.And listen, this axle-back is certainly gonna peg the bang for your buck meter when we're talking sound. Strong, aggressive tone from the small perforated two mufflers, and one that I feel confident in giving a soft four out of five on my one to five or one to wake the neighbor scale, which listen, guys, is pretty stout for an axle-back by itself with that factory resonator in place. Now, you do get a little bit of boom inside the car around 2000 RPM on the highway, but by no means is it what I would consider one of the worst systems out there when we're talking about drone, in fact, pretty far from it. Now, the star of the sound here does come from these small straight-through design mufflers that, to me, kind of resembles sort of a mini Roush muffler for the S550 GT.Now, again, those mufflers do utilize what is called a straight-through perforated two design, especially gonna pass through the mufflers packing and shape the sound in the process, kind of takes some of the edge off as well. Now, because this is a straight-through design, you are going to be increasing your exhaust flow and, of course, your volume, but especially when we're comparing this to a more restrictive factory muffler or even aftermarket chamber muffler designs that you might encounter here on the site.But aside from the mufflers, you can also expect a full 3-inch mandrel-bent tubing here for the little bit of tubing that you are getting, of course, and everything is gonna exit out of these massive 4-1/2-inch tips, which are a bit longer than a lot of the other systems on the site. And that'll certainly make for a unique look once everything's installed. But maybe most importantly here, guys, is the fact that, again, you are getting a full stainless system for south of 300 bucks. That is awesome.Tips are gonna be premium 304-grade, and the rest of your system is made from that quality 409-grade stainless. So a solid build, no doubt, and one that should last a very long time without any fear of rust or corrosion. Now, the C&L kit does include all of the clamps needed for the installation, which, again, does require some cutting here in order to remove those factory mufflers. This is pretty much par for the course for any S550 axle-back out there. And the only way to really avoid this, guys, is to upgrade to a full cap back, but obviously, at a much higher price point. But to give you a better idea of how the install will go down, feel free to check out our detailed walkthrough and tool breakdown right now.Man: Tools for this install, a Sawzall with a metal cutting blade, eye protection as well as hand protection, a 15-millimeter socket, and impact, and you may need an exhaust hanger removal tool. Now the first step of this install would be to cut your muffler as well as your exhaust tip right at the 90-degree angle before it turns into your muffler. Now the cut would be right about here before the turn into the muffler. Now we won't be cutting our exhaust today because we do have to return this vehicle back to stock. However, we do have a pre-cut set of exhausts that we can show you how to get your new exhaust tips installed on.Now, again, you're gonna need to cut right here before the 90-degree on this side, as well as the same on the following side. Now that your exhaust is cut. It's time to place our new tips onto our cut exhaust. Taking your clamp, we're gonna place that onto our exhaust first. And then we'll go ahead and hang our new tips up. Take your new axle-back and place it through the stock hanger. And place it onto your pipes. Now taking our 15-millimeter socket, we're gonna tighten down this clamp and repeat those steps on the other side.Now with your clamps secured, that's gonna wrap it up for our review and install of the C&L Sport Axle-Back Exhaust with Polished Tips, fitting your '15 to '17 Mustang. This system features a pair of round, high-flow, straight-through perforated mufflers that end with a set of 4.5-inch, polished, 304 stainless steel exhaust tips.
Cut and Clamp Installation. The installation of this Axle-Back Exhaust system will require cutting and removing the stock muffler assemblies. The new Axle-Back assemblies will install in place of the old. Installation of this Axle-Back can be completed in about two to three hours. This Axle-Back reuses the existing factory hangers for installation. Clamps and instructions are provided.
