Hey, guys. Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com here with my review of the C&L Street Cold Air Intake, available for the 2015 and up Mustang GT. The C&L Street Cold Air Intake is going to be for the S550 GT owners out there who are looking for a closed element cold air intake that also keeps the direct cold air feed that Ford has created from factory. But that doesn't necessarily require a computer re-tune. A cold air intake is normally one of the first mods that many Mustang owners go to. But a lot of times the question of "Is a tune required?" has an impact on the intake that is chosen. And the C&L right here is an option that brings other benefits besides just performance gains to the table, but without requiring a tune. But speaking of gains, let's break the numbers down first before getting into the intake. We already ran a baseline run and got some numbers in the book. So we're going to run the car again with the C&L installed. Now we did pair a 93 octane tune with the intake, even though this intake does not require a tune. But we wanted to see the full potential that the intake has, and here's what we found. Our baseline run with our 2015 GT gave us numbers of 387 horsepower and 365 foot pounds of torque at the rear wheels. With the C&L in tune installed those numbers changed to 412 horsepower and 387 foot pounds of torque, making for a peak gain of 25 horsepower over those baseline numbers. Our gains throughout the curve showed as much as 34 horsepower and 33 foot pounds of torque right in that 4,000 to 5,500 RPM range. These are the gains that you're actually going to notice when you're driving, especially in this RPM range. Now since we did pair this with a tune, keep in mind that a lot of the gains that you're seeing will be attributed to that tune. If we take a closer look at the C&L, it's first off by popular intake on the site, and one that's going to come in at the top of the line in-regards to price at right around $400. But also in quality and fitment as well. And all of C&L's products are built and tested in the USA, which is just something that I like to point out. But looking at the specifics here, this does include a reusable filter that you can easily wash and re-oil when it gets a little dirty. And it's not the biggest filter that I've seen for an aftermarket S550 cold air intake. But it's not the smallest either. One of the big things that I wanted to point out with this intake though is the housing here. First of all, it's enclosed, which you're only going to see from other options like Airaid and JLT right now. It has a plexiglass lid that's removable, so you can get to your filter easily, or see without having to take the air-box apart. The other cool thing about the housing is that it taps into the cold air duct, which brings cool air in from the grill instead of using warm engine compartment air.And like I mentioned earlier, this particular intake does not require a tune. But the small gains and drive-ability that you'll see from the intake alone can be greatly amplified by running a tune, just as a side note. As for the install, it's nothing too difficult, and the intake will come with all of the items that you'll need, including your clamps and your hardware. All you really need to complete the install is a few sockets and a Flathead for the plastic pins. This is probably one of the easier mods that you can tackle with your new Mustang and will probably take about a half hour to an hour tops. And I'm going to call this a one out of three wrenches on our scale.Wrapping things up here, I think the C&L Street Intake is a well built intake that works with an enclosed air-box and taps into that cold air duct that Ford has provided for the intake. It fits well and has a decent sized reusable filter, and it does not require a tune. You can check this intake out more online for yourself, and for all things Mustang keep it right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Cold Air Intake
This is a fantastic old air intake. Good looking, excellent performance and upgradability. Only thing to note is that it is a tight fit. Do not screw the air box in until both ends of the air tube are connected and tightened. Makes the installation much easier.Helpful (1)

Fits great and looks great but the washers that came with it didn’t work so luckily I had some laying around that worked. Had to install the restriction insert because I don’t have a tune yet so no noticeable increase.Helpful (1)

C L Cold Air
The intake fits in the stock location and has all the necessary hardware to install. The fit is very tight but once it is in place looks like it came from the factory. A great feature is there is a removable inner sleeve to allow use of the intake with no tune. If you decide to add a tune later you remove the inner sleeve.Helpful (8)

I got it to fit, but ever since I installed it my RPM's spike to 3500 hundred on a warm start after about 30 minutes of being off. I notice the power difference with my tune too, but that RPM spike is pretty annoying some days.Helpful (4)

Easy install slightly noticeable HP without a tune. its a little tight kind of hard to squeeze into the bay. TIP assemble the CAI then install it'll be easy. Install was 1 hour including removing the stock intake. Just waiting on a tune!Helpful (5)

Instructions were not complete left you guessing what to do after certain steps in the process. Finally got in fitted in place after taking apart previous steps and then reinstalling. Plastic plate that fits over air box is white so you have to take off to see condition of filter which involves unscrewing 8 screws. Should be clear. After installed seems to help response.Helpful (6)
There are HP and TQ gains given WITH the tune but wha tare the HP and TQ gains with this intake if I don't do a tune?
You will still see gains in both horsepower and torque if you do not use a tune, but it will be a significant amount less. The amount you can gain with or without the tune will differ depending on what other modifications you have done to the car.
Can I put whitout the glasses for more sound???
The screen can be removed from the C&L Street Cold Air Intake, and it will not obstruct the sound of the intake as opposed to having the screen in place. Removal of the screen will allow heat from the engine compartment to be exposed to the filter, so you will experience hotter intake temperatures.
I'm looking at getting a custom tune but I only have 91 octane where I live. Will this still function correctly on a 91 octane tune? Thanks!
You can run this intake with a 91 octane tune.
I have a '16 GT pp. If I purchase this kit, will it work with a ported '18 intake manifold and larger throttle body?
Unfortunately we have not tested this intake with the ported 2018 manifold. We recommend reaching out to Ford Performance directly to confirm.
does the filter already come oiled?
Lund will be able to tune for this intake yes.
This will come with a grommet and plug for deletion.
This C&L Street Cold Air Intake is not tested or approved by the California Air Resource Board (CARB) meaning this is not legal for use upon highway in the state of California.
You would be able to tune the EU models yes. To do this you would simply need to talk to a tune shop to have them set you up. However, This intake would not require the use of a tuner!
The C&L Street Cold Air Intake will have a sealed air box that pulls from the OEM location between the headlamp and the radiator.
Unfortunately, C&L does not offer a replacement filter at this time.
This cold air intake will be able to work with the GT350 throttle body and the GT 350 intake manifold.
Hello! As long as you have your car re-tuned, the C&L Street Cold Air Intake should function properly.
Each warranty will be different by the dealer. You will need to contact your dealer to see if this would void their warranty. This part is designed differently than the stock air box that Ford uses factory so it will be noticeable as well.
Hi, This C&L Street Cold Air Intake is designed to be used with a oiled filter only, using a dry filter will cause lower HP ratings and we can not guarantee the fitment of a Airaid filter on this C&L Street Cold Air Intake.
