      Hey I'm Justin with and this is my detailed breakdown of the drive shaft shop one piece carbon fiber and aluminum drive shaft available for the 2005 to 2014 Mustang GT, all 11-14 V6s and the 2007-2012 Shelby GT 500. For all intents and purposes either the carbon fiber or aluminum one piece drive shaft would be a massive upgrade over the factory two-piece drive shaft in just about every way with the only exception of course being cost. Now before I lay down all the benefits of switching to a one-piece drive shaft, go ahead and click on that link below to subscribe to our YouTube channel if you haven't done so already. So the drive shaft shop has been around for over 30 years designing and producing quality drive shafts that have been used on everything from record breaking drag cars to some of our very own project cars like Project MMD and Project Coyote. Currently on the site, we are offering both the carbon fiber version and the lightweight aluminum version which again will be a huge improvement over that stocker not only in weight savings but also strength, drivability and performance.First up, let's start with the most obvious benefit of going with a one-piece drive shaft, weight savings. Now I do have the factory 2014 Coyote drive shaft here with me. So let's throw that on the scale and see what we're looking at. All right so the factory two-piece drive shaft is weighing in at roughly 37-1/2 pounds. Take this off. Now let's see what we're looking at with the aluminum drive shaft. So with the one-piece drive shaft, the aluminum version, we're weighing in at 18-1/2 pounds roughly. So we'll take this off and throw the carbon fiber version on and see what the difference is. And the carbon fiber version is just over 17 pounds right now. So there you go. Just by going with a one-piece lightweight aluminum or carbon fiber drive shaft you're roughly going to shave almost 20 pounds off your Mustang's rotational mass.By shedding that much weight off the drivetrain, you're going to notice a couple of different things, quicker revs and improved throttle response and you should even see slightly faster 60 foot and quarter mile times. Another benefit is that you should notice slightly less vibrations that can sometimes be associated with two-piece drive shafts. Another massive benefit is that the one piece drive shafts are just inherently stronger than the factory two-piece drive shaft. For one, you are eliminating the weak spot in the factory two-piece drive shaft and you're also going to be using stronger materials all around from the shaft itself to the CV and U joints much superior compared to the factory counterpart.First up, let's start with the lightweight aluminum version. Now first up, the lightweight version is going to be a little less expensive compared to the carbon fiber version but will still offer all of the same performance benefits I just talked about a little earlier. The shaft itself has been made from a light weight 6061 T6 aluminum while the CV joint and U joints themselves have been made from extremely strong 300M alloy steel. This is the same steel used in aircraft landing gear and other applications where strength is an absolute must. The carbon fiber version on the other hand is slightly more expensive compared to the aluminum version but you do get a little bit more for your money.In fact, just click the link below if you want to learn more about this guy. Carbon fiber construction does weigh slightly less compared to the aluminum version as we just saw with our scale and when it does come to rotational mass, every little bit helps. Another plus with the carbon fiber version is that even though both options have been rated at 900 horsepower at the rear wheels that carbon fiber construction is going to have a higher degree of torsion and a higher tensile strength. So that basically means the carbon fiber material can handle much more abuse before breaking when compared to the aluminum version. Now even though the carbon fiber is technically stronger in that regard, it does have better elasticity allowing it to twist ever so slightly on those hard launches reducing some of the shock on your drivetrain, your gears and your axles.Because it does have the ability to dampen some of these noises, everyday driving should be a little quieter and free of noise vibration and harshness when compared to that aluminum unit. Getting either option installed on to your Mustang is actually pretty straightforward if you've never done one before but I will say it makes life a lot easier if you have a lift on hand in addition to another set of hands. On the other hand, if you want to do things the old-fashioned way and get on your back underneath some jack stands, well it can be done that way too but just be sure to leave yourself two hours to get the job done and make sure you have a good quality fork wrench on hand just to make sure everything is according to spec.         It does what it does well. No vibration or clunk. I can tell it's lighter just by the feel of the clutch and gas. seems to have more of a bite in the rear during acceleration

        acceleration a bit quicker, no vibration at all, I would recommend to any Stanger...paired with 3.73 gears...Ford Performance actually recommended this product because they(Ford) don't make one for auto s197

        great product!

        Very good upgrade for your s197 mustang! was worried if this would fit on an automatic does!!! So that was a plus. The new drive shaft weighed in at 21.8 pounds. The old one at a whopping 42.4 pounds! i definitely felt a difference, very snappy and responsive now!

        The driveshaft came packages appropriately packaged against damage of any kind. Looks are awesome. A quality piece of machinery. great job Driveshaft Shop. Took an afternoon but I am extremely picky about things. I'd say 3 hours for just the driveshaft switch out. Great buy and mod for my Shelby. Can't wait until I take it "out" but feels noticeably good so far.

      What are the differences in the GT version vs. V6 version, other than the yoke?

      • The difference between an Aluminum One Piece Driveshaft for a GT versus a V6, other than the yoke, is the V6 driveshaft length is shorter than the GT.

      2008 Mustang GT. currently running stock 2 piece driveshaft. Does the Driveshaft Shop's one piece driveshaft require adjustments to pinion angle (anything else)?

      • The Driveshaft Shop 3.5 in. Aluminum One Piece Driveshaft will not require a pinion angle adjustment and will bolt right on.

      Does this driveshaft have index marks like the oem one? will it vibrate if not installed on the marking on the flanges?

      • The Driveshaft Shop 3.5 in. Aluminum One Piece Driveshaft will not have the index marks like the factory driveshaft. The driveshaft will also be balanced which will eliminate the vibration.

      Is adjustable Upper Control Arm needed for it? My car is lowered about 1.3 in the front and 1.5 in the rear, along with adjustable LCA and pan hard rod. While still use the factory UCA.

      • While installing the driveshaft, you can install upper control arms to your vehicle. It would be an upgrade to your suspension but it is not necessary.

      I'd like clarity on pinion angles, with the DSS on a lowered 2.25" in the rear car.
