    Review & Install Video

I’m Justin from AmericanMuscle.com, and this is our detailed breakdown of the JLT Series 3 cold air intake system for the 2005-2009 Mustang GT. The first thing I notice when taking a look at this intake is the sheer size of everything, from the tube itself all the way down to that air filter, that’s going to be the big distinguishing factor with this intake versus some of its competitors. The series 3 features a massive 110mm MAF housing, which is one of the largest on the market today. This total combination is going to equate to more horsepower and torque at the rear wheels, and increase throttle response. The JLT features a 4.5” molded ABS plastic tube which is great at resisting engine bay heat especially when paired with that included heat shield. A nice thing about the series 3 is that it incorporates the MAF sensor housing right into the intake tube itself, eliminating the need for excess couplers or housings which can actually hurt your air flow. Due to the very large size of this JLT intake, running a performance tune is an absolute must, but before we go installing the intake and uploading our tune, we want to get a baseline number from our 06 GT back there just to see where we stand. With our baseline run out of the way we’re going to get to installing our intake which should only take us about an hour using standard hand tools. As I mentioned earlier, in order to properly run this JLT intake you will need a performance tune, we’re going to use our custom Bama tune which should really make the most out of our kit. This is going to do a couple of things for us, this is going to optimize our spark timing, adjust your variable cam timing, and get those air/fuel ratios right in the sweet spot. You’re also going to see improved throttle response as well. With our intake installed and our tune uploaded, let’s turn the rollers one more time and see how well the Series 3 performed on our GT. So our baseline run with our 2006 GT gave us 277 horsepower and 282 ft/lbs of torque. With our JLT installed, we put down 300 horsepower and 316 ft/lbs of torque making for a peak gain of 23 horsepower over our baseline numbers, and gains of 30 horsepower and 32 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. The Series 3 from JLT is for the Mustang enthusiast with all out performance in mind, the price is very competitive with other cold air intake kits on the market today, especially when you factor in how well it performs. Of course the added need for a tune will factor in to the overall price in the long run, but if you’re looking to get the most out of your naturally aspirated or supercharged 3 valve 4.6 motor, then the Series 3 is definitely worth checking out.

More Usable Horsepower. With a JLT Performance Series 3 Cold Air Intake and a custom tune installed in your 2005 to 2009 GT you can expect to see average gains of 25 to 30 more horsepower and 21 ft-lb torque at the rear wheels. In addition to an increase in horsepower you will also see an impressive improvement in throttle response.

110mm MAF Housing. With a massive 110mm MAF housing "the largest available on the market" this JLT Cold Air Kit was specially designed for Mustangs making over 350 RWHP, but works just as well on a stock daily driver.

Money Saving Reusable Filter. This JLT cold air intake kit comes complete with a 4.5" x 9" high flow reusable S&B powerstack air filter. So that means there is no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Now you can just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money, and go!

Easy Installation. The JLT Performance Cold Air Intake kit was designed to install with just basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for an easy 1 hour installation.

Required Upgrade. Installation of this Cold Air Intake will require the use of a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU) for operation.

Application. This JLT Performance Series 3 Cold Air Intake System is specifically designed for use on naturally aspirated 2005 to 2009 GT and Bullitt Mustangs equipped with the 4.6L V8 engine. Will also fit GT's equipped with a Saleen Supercharger.

Technical Note: The use of a SCT SF3/X3 PowerFlash or SCT LiveWire tuner is required to reprogram the vehicles computer for this Cold Air Intake.

I just installed this intake on my 2007 gt. It is stock except for 4.10’s and I have the sct x4 tuner. I installed this intake and selected the jlt intake on my tuner, on my test drive I felt a big decrease in power and my check engine light came on. Says it’s running lean on bank 2?! Any suggestions? I’m also installing the hot rod cams this weekend.

Hello, I have a 2009 GT/CS with a CDC Shaker installed; is the heat shield on this CAI easy to cut a hole into for the Shaker's tube to reach it and provide air at higher speeds? I really want to upgrade to a CAI but I also love the Shaker, so I would prefer to keep the shaker and have it functional as well. Thanks

    Cam

    • The heat shield that is included with the JLT Performance Series 3 Cold Air Intake isn't mean to be cut. We cannot guarantee that this can be done properly.

    • The JLT Performance Series 3 Cold Air Intake does not carry a CARB EO number, and would not be smog legal.

I have a Cervini's Ram Air Type IV hood on my gt that does not have the ram air ducting for the stock air box. I am in the market for a cold air that i would not have to worry about driving the car in the rain with the open hood vents. Would this JLT have enough protection from the water or would i need to look at something else? Or do I need to pair a cold air with the cervini ram air kit that bolts up under the hood paired with a cold air? Just not sure what the best route would be with the hood. Thank you ahead of time for helping me.

    04oxywhitegt

    • Thre JLT Performance Series 3 Cold Air Intake will work great with the Cervini Ram Air Hood. The hood does not allow that much water to enter the engine bay, so you will be fine with whatever CAI you choose.

      Better Than Expected!

Immediate noticeable difference on cold start. Sounds throatier, better throttle response, easy install, and for the price why wouldn't you install this intake?

      Good top end gains.

Only took 30 minutes to install and to upload tune for it. Fit was very snug but went together in the end. Can feel nice gain.

      Works and has AWESOME sound

Immediately after the install, I noticed increased throttle response, and faster acceleration when I hit the pedal. At Higher RPMS you can almost hear it sucking in the air! Gave my Mustang a nice new sound. Also, my heat shield fit fine, and I didn't have to sand or cut anything. Great fit.

      Worth every penny

This cold air intake is great!! It is a little fustrating to install due to the tight fit of the heat shield and the filter, but once it’s done it is worth it. Once you have the car tuned, it really wakes it up. Anything over 3000rpm and you can hear the engine sucking air. It also looks great under the hood!

Exceeded my expectations! Must have combo!!!

Let me just say this is my first performance mod along side the Bama X4 tuner and it has surpassed my expectations, my beautiful GT (Katy) has noticeable power without a doubt the best first mod combo, I highly recommend and to the American Muscle staff thank you for being super helpful I can't wait for my next mod, shall I get the kooks carted xpipe combo or control arms and coilovers?

      It sucks so good!

I’ve had other CAI before but the JLT is definetly a step above. You can here it sucking air from inside and outside the car. I noticed a massive power gain from this and the Bama race tune and the exhaust note is definetly throatier and louder. I have a Flow Master American Thunder cat back on the car which sounds great but the JLT and the 62 mm throttle body I put on gave me the added volume and depth I wanted. For the price it’s well worth it but note you will definetly need a tune, the car won’t even run let alone run correctly with out it bc of the massive amount of air this thing takes in.

      Great mod!

The JLT Cai lets your car get the air it needs to make more hp an breath a lot better! I'd say the best first mod under the hood you can get! As usual American Muscle ships it out an gets it to ya faster then any 1 else. I recommend the JLT Cai to everyone looking for the best first mod.
