Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m taking a closer look at Magnaflow’s Cat-Back exhaust system, fitting the 94-98 Mustang GT, and Cobra. At first glance, you can tell this system from Magnaflow is not going to be as radical as their Magnapack per say, and that’s due to these two traditional chambered mufflers, which this system is built around. Of course those chambered mufflers will still allow for that classic muscle car sound, but without any excess drone of rasp, especially when you toss an offroad X or H pipe into the mix. Magnaflow’s quality is always top notch, and the same is true with this exhaust, we’re looking at 100% stainless steel constructions throughout, including the 2.5” mandrel bent tubing, the traditional chambered mufflers we just mentioned, and finally these huge 3.5” polished tips. Since the factory exhaust on these SN95’s is all one piece essentially, you will need to cut it off before getting started with the install of the new Magnaflow system. Once you get that factory system out of the way, getting the new Magnaflow bolted up should only take you about 2 hours from start to finish. Now let’s hear how the Magnaflow Cat-Back sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

Smooth crisp sound
When I got my car the exhaust was rigged up pretty poorly with the cats gutted and a flowmastwr cat back that had been bent probably backing up to a curb or something. The flow masters were nice and loud but the exhaust rattled from being bent and poorly installed and had a horrible drone on the highway. Anyways I picked up these, bbk headers and catted x-pipe and it doesn’t even sound like the same car. This exhaust isn’t loud but it is smooth and crisp and has a nice note. No more droning at any rpm. I’m not sure which I prefer I definetly like this exhaust a lot and it deserves a 5 star review the sound is great and the droning being gone is really nice and it sounds good when you step into it but if you’re looking for all out loud this isn’t it. If you’re looking for an upgraded exhaust from stock that’s great quality and has a nice tone but not a lot of volume this is for you.Helpful (0)

I recently had the Magnaflow Street Cat-Back installed on my 98 Cobra convertible. I was looking for a good sounding catback that wasn't too loud. This worked perfect! It is much deeper than stock. On a loud scale I would give it a 2. Not a lot louder than stock but you know you have an exhaust haha. While cruising through the gears it is a very nice tone. I have a feeling this catback will open up alot when I add an offroad H or X pipe. I highly recommend this catback if you're looking for a deep crisp tone.Helpful (5)

1998 Mustang GT Convertible
My factory exhaust was a pain to get out after right around 20 years, even being a completely rust free vehicle. The new Magnaflow exhaust is amazing, was nervous at first because its only a little louder at idle than the factory was, but one you get driving and on cold start its aggressively loud. Nothing crazy but the tone and quality of the stainless steel is immaculate. My entire undercarriage is painted with rustproofing gloss black material and this sys top off the looks. Great job to MF and nice job AM.Helpful (7)

Quality product, only hitch was pipe between muffler and cat didn't work on my 98 Cobra. I had to reuse old stainless pipe on my passenger side. It could of been because of my headers, IDK. It had an unnecessary bend, where it should of been more straight. Added more installment time, 3 hours total, due to this.Helpful (8)

Only exhaust I will ever buy
Can't go wrong with this awesome exhaust. Pair it up with a BBK Offroad X-Pipe and it will turn heads everywhere you go. In my opinion, this pairing has definitely given me the horsepower gains that it says it would. I still have to get my car tuned and should really feel some power to the wheels then. Hands down the best deep raspy tone combination out there.Helpful (8)

Great exhaust, low drone
I installed this on my 98 GT along with a BBK off road X-pipe. From stock, it made a world of a difference on upper RPM. The sound was great, especially since I didn't want a low drone at highway speeds. A friend of mine has the competition Magnaflow setup and X-pipe. At idle, they sound very similar. At upper RPM, his will bark a little harder than this setup. But don't be fooled, This setup with an off road X-pipe sounds AWESOME! Load when you hammer on it, quiet enough when you want it to be.Helpful (6)

Smooth, not loud
I'm not really sure how long it took me to install, but since the car wasnt going to be going outside in a couple months, I just took my time. Installation was not difficult, the only aspect that really took any time was that the two most rearward hangers on the car were nearly rotted away, so they had to be replaced. The sound at idle is not loud, its not much louder than the factory exhaust, it just has more low rumble. It only shows off its real bite when you get on it a little. The good thing is that I can idle down my street toward home in quiet without waking up anyone or sounding like a douchebag.Helpful (11)
Will this cat back system bolt up to the factory cat converter pipe with out any size difference issues, i believe my current cat back factory system is 2 1/4 in in size.
The Magnaflow Street Cat-Back Exhaust will bolt up directly to the OEM Mid pipe with no issues, using the stock ball and socket flange.
i'm doing a coyote swap, full length headers and x-pipes on my 95 GT. will this cat-back exhaust fit?
We cannot confirm fitment of this product for Coyote swaps.
I have a 96 mustang with a 87-93 5.0 bbk shorty headers with x pipe will this work with my setup
As long as the current X pipe is for the 96 GT this cat back would work for your application.
Will these bolt up to 97 Cobra with BBK longtubes and catless Hpipe? I don't want to drop $600 and have fitment problems as Magnaflow says for OEM replcement on instructions.
Yes, this exhaust will bolt up to your '97 Cobra Mustang with BBK Long tube headers and off-road H-pipe without an issue.
Is the power the street cat-back exhaust put out the same as the competition magnaflow cat-back exhaust what is the difference between the two?
All cat-backs will make roughly the same amount of power. The only difference in these two systems is the mufflers and sound. The street cat back will be quieter then the competition cat-back.
The Magnaflow Street Cat-Back Exhaust will fit with the SLP Catted X Pipe.
Absolutely! The Magnaflow Street Cat-Back Exhaust (94-98 GT, Cobra) will work just fine with the PaceSetter V6 Dual Exhaust Adapter Kit (94-98 V6) item #51064 (http://www.americanmuscle.com/pacesetter-adapter-kit-9498v6.html). The flanges line up on both pieces but you will need to do some cutting to properly install that adapter.
