    Review & Install Video

Justin: Hey, everybody. I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com. And I'm going to be breaking down a very budget-friendly catback system for your S550. I'm taking a closer look at the MBRP street catback exhaust system, fitting all 2015 GT's. MBRP is a Canadian-based performance exhaust company that's been making exhaust systems for a wide variety of applications for nearly two decades. Now their systems are definitely known to be on the more aggressive side, and as you guys heard, even though this is their street system, it still offers plenty of bark for that low muscle car rumble, thanks to the included H-pipe. A big thing I do want to point out here, though, with the MBRP systems is the price. Now as I mentioned at the beginning of this video, these things really do offer a great bang for your buck, and they come in at nearly half of the price of some other catback systems available for your 2015 GT. Another thing to point out here, when choosing a street system for your S550, you do have a few options here at American Muscle, including a full blacked-out version like you see here. They also offer a fully polished version of the stainless steel polished mufflers and polished tips. And if you're really looking to save a few bucks, well then they do offer a aluminized steel tubing version, which is basically the same exhaust I have with me here, but utilizes aluminized steel tubing in place of the stainless steel tubing, if you're looking to keep things on a very tight budget. All right. With that all out of the way, guys. Lets get into some of the details here with the MBRP street system. You are going to be looking at 3" mandrel-bent stainless steel tubing again with this kit here, leading into the street series mufflers and then out the 4 1/2" slash cut tips, etched with that MBRP logo. Now since this kit does utilize a true H-pipe design here, you are going to get that low, thumping muscle car tone that's typical when using an H-pipe, as opposed to that raspiness that comes along with an X-pipe. You'll be happy to know that catback installs with a 2015 Mustang are definitely much easier, compared to older generations, thanks largely in part to that new independent rear suspension, meaning there's no over axle pipes or anything like that. And because the MBRP is a direct bolt-on modification, meaning you don't have to cut whatsoever, you should be able to get this thing knocked out in under two hours, especially if you're working with a buddy. So if you guys are looking to crank up the volume on that new GT, but you want to leave some money left over for a few other mods, then be sure to check out the full MBRP lineup here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Classic Muscle Car Exhaust Note. Now you can give your coyote powered Mustang the aggressive exhaust note of classic muscle car with a MBRP Street Cat-Back Exhaust System that has been specifically tuned to get the optimal sound from your 2015-2017 GT Mustang. This catback not only sounds great, but also improves exhaust flow with the included H-Pipe for an increase in rear wheel horsepower and torque.

Muscle Car Rumble. The included H-Pipe not only helps increase power, but it also adds a deep muscle car rumble to the sound of your exhaust with its classic "H" crossover pipe design.

Durable Aluminized Steel Construction. Constructed from 3" diameter aluminized steel tubing for strength and corrosion resistance, this MBRP Cat-Back exhaust system features two street mufflers that end with 4.5" polished 304 stainless steel slant cut exhaust tips. As an added bonus the tips are etched with the "MBRP" logo for true custom styling.

Direct Bolt-On Installation. Engineered to be a direct upgrade replacement for your Mustangs factory exhaust, the MBRP Street Cat-Back Exhaust Kit easily bolts up in the stock location with no modifications required.

Application. This MBRP Aluminized Steel Street Cat-Back Exhaust Kit is designed to fit all 2015-2017 GT Mustangs equipped with the 5.0L 4V coyote engine. It is available for both Fastback and Convertible models - Please select from the option field above.

I have the base gt. I see in some pictures some have the base without much less prominent valence (like me) and others have the premium or pp version with a full rear valence. The fitment in the pics is really variable. Some with the larger valence protrude much more. Is this adjustable and to what degree ? What’s the min and max inches length it will protrude from a base Gt? I know it won’t be flush. I want to make sure what I see in pics was adjusted vs luck of the draw with pipe length.

    JS

    • The MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust has a slight adjustment to it based on how far the slip fit connectors are pushed together prior to clamping. We do not have a measurement on this, but typically ~1" from full forward to full backward can be achieved with this style exhaust.

To those who already own this exhaust system, how is the drone on this? I used to have a 2016 v6 with outlaw axle backs and the drone was terrible, I hated it so much, is this bearable with this one?

    Rush

    • The MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust has little to no drone at any speed. MBRP builds mufflers specific for the vehicle, and drone is one of the many attributes they account for, with having no drone being their ideal goal.

Has anybody experienced rattling where the H-Pipe connects to the factory exhaust pipes/Catalytic converter ? I have tightened and adjusted the exhaust several times now, and about every month, the rattle reappears and I need to readjust the pipe in the factory clamps. The H-Pipe has cone-shaped ends and they seem to "slip" out of the of the clamp and cause a rattle at the connection point, the noise almost always seems to come from the passenger side (the side with the flex coupling in the exhaust) once the connection is loose, the flex coupling/clamp/pipe rattle until readjusted.

    LukeL

    • The MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust should not produce a rattling. With the pipes loosing connection, this is most likely a case of under or over tightening of the clamp, as too little tension can cause not enough pressure to be applied, allowing this to slowly slip loose, and over tightening can also cause the pipes to be slightly deformed when under load, allowing them to be essentially squeezed out of one another. We would recommend installing the exhaust with a small dab of blue Lok Tite on the threads of the clamps to prevent loosening, and torquing the clamps to the OEM spec of 35 Lb-ft.

Since this is a direct bolt-on for the factor set-up, how does this work with MBRP 3" long tube headers? The headers say they're designed to go with an MBRP cat-back, but they have a 3" connection where it looks like these are smaller to accommodate the factory headers. I could not seem to find an MBRP product that would bolt up to their 3" long tube headers. Thanks!

    sleeperstang

    • There would be a step down used to allow them to fit together and bolt up correctly. In the case of an S550 you have adapter tubes that come off of the headers that will accommodate the size needed to bolt these up.

Im sitting on Eibach Sportlines, will I have any issues rubbing wise? Whats the low point?

    AndranikO

    • There should not be any issues with rubbing with this exhaust kit. We also do not have the measurements available for exactly how low it will sit.

So what is the difference between the Installer Series Street version and the XP Series Street version, other than the price? I didn't see anything different in the details on both of them. I'm wondering because I don't mind if I'm paying slightly more for the XP Series, as long as I know that there is a distinct difference between the two when I make my decision. Any info would be great. Thanks.

    xGearheadxDavex

    • The MBRP Installer Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ H-Pipe will be aluminized tubing which will eventually rust over time. Whereas the XP series will use stainless steel tubing which will not rust.

      Sounds great

It came very fast to my house the box will NOT fit in your car tho just in case anyone was wondering. Install was very easy I would recommend a lift with a friend. If that’s not available it is still easy to install it on a jack with stands. Once the finished product is on it does sound like the video. It’s not ob odious loud and has that great deep sound when you floor it.

Great exhaust for the price. Louder than you expect, so if you live in a Condo/TH/APT be prepared to have some unhappy neighbors in the mornings ;) . Spend the extra $90 and get the XP stainless steel, unless you don't plan on keeping your car for more than two years.

      Amazing!

Bought this for my 15'. One of the easiest exhausts I've ever installed, hands down.An hour with a buddy tops! Great sound, just all around a solid pick for an exhaust! The fittings are "perfect" but it's half the price...so get over it.

You pay for what you get

I purchased this exhaust for a bargain on black friday 2017 knowing fully it wouldn't even compare to something 2.5x the price. But for what its worth I've enjoyed it and it has a decent sound that wont make your neighbors want to murder you every time the vehicle is turned on. If you do purchase this exhaust go spend the 10$ at the local automotive store and get 3"x3" band clamps to secure the H-pipe to the mufflers. I had the puny kit clamp come apart on my passenger side. Last thing after about 7k miles the black finish came off the bottom, still holding color on the tips.

GOOD FIRST MOD FOR YOUR STANG

Installed on brand new 2017 Mustang GT. Decided on this system mainly due to its value but they truly are a nice set of pipes. After reading a lot of the reviews and installing myself concluded the best tips are: make sure the first section of pipes is perfectly LEVEL at the discharge end. Remember, since your car is obviously on stands, level the car, then using a floor jack get the pipes level at the rear and tighten the first clamps. After loosely installing the other two rear sections rotate each to get the tips where they need to be. I had to slightly "jig" one tip with a small aluminum shim (rivet shaft about 1/2 " long) to get both tips perfectly centered and level. System isn't any louder than my 2012 GT500 stock exhaust and as noted elsewhere, NO annoying drone at highway speeds. It is a little more raspy than I like but this isn't a big block Chevy so it may just be the characteristics of the Coyote motor. All in all, a well engineered piece at a good price.

      MBPR Exaust

First of all the exaust is awesome..sound is great and the install was super easy. I did access to a lift so if you can also highly recommend it. All parts were very nice quality. Only complaint I have was the box was drug across the ground and did damage where the h- pipe and muffler come together but a little TLC with some pliers made it all come together just fine. I'm sure I'm like most and listened to alot of different exaust. But bang for the buck and quality can't be beat MBPR.

      Exactly as advertised

I had it installed by an expert (2hrs = $150). The system did not bolt up exactly and the hangers needed a bit of adjustment. Plus I had them spot tack pipes to prevent any rattle. More than I could do myself. Absolutely thrilled with the result. Sounds wonderful. Just like the A.M. video. Nice deep rich mellow sound on smooth acceleration. Won't disturb folks. Highway speed noise is pleasant. You know it's there but enjoyable. When you want to announce your presence, it barks nicely. Highly recommend.

MBRP Cat back exhaust - street

This cat back exhaust was everything I wanted and more. It is plenty loud when you want it to be. But it is also not as a noxious where it makes your neighbor's mad when you start your car up every morning. but is definitely the best value for the money in Cat-Back exhaust hands down. If you are looking to upgrade from stock to something with much more deep throated sound, this is the exhaust for you. Do not spend $1,100 or $1,200.

      Muscle car sound

I was hesitant at first due to the lower price of this system; however it is exactly what I was looking for: a deep muscle car sound. This system makes the mustang sound like it should. It’s not so loud as to be obnoxious, it’s just right, especially when you get into it. Had it installed about 2 weeks ago and I don’t think I’ve turned on my radio since, I just listen to that badass sound.
