Review & Install Video

Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, here taking a closer look at the MBRP Race Catback Exhaust with H-Pipe, available for all 2015 GT Mustangs in three different choices, aluminized, stainless steel, and stainless steel with black tips. MBRP has been in the performance exhaust game for nearly 20 years, and when word of the new S550 Mustang dropped, these guys wasted no time getting started on some new exhaust systems. These systems have been built to perform by maximizing flow and minimizing exhaust temperatures. They're also specifically tuned to get the most optimal sound out of your new Mustang, which means that they can be civilized when you want them to be, and aggressive when you don't, and the results of this new design will not leave you disappointed. MBRP designed these H-Pipe and Catback combos to not only have that classic muscle car sound but to also be able to withstand anything that the road throws at them. They feature three-inch mandrel-bent tubing, and the aluminized steel version that we have installed in our 2015 today not only adds strength to the system, but it also protects against corrosion. The stainless steel version of this system is made from rugged T409 16-gauge stainless steel, which means it'll be able to withstand anything that you dare drive your S550 through. And the black tips are available for those of you looking for an aggressive look to match its aggressive sound. The race series mufflers in all systems are stamped with the classic MBRP logo. The stainless steel and aluminized options both feature four-and-a-half inch polished tips, while the black-tipped version features four-and-a-half-inch black powder-coated stainless steel tips. Since these systems are a direct bolt-on for the 2015 GT Mustang, you guys don't have to worry about having to make any modifications or doing any cutting or welding. They are a direct replacement for your factory exhaust, and getting everything installed should take you about two hours or less. Everything is even a direct fit to the OEM hangers, and you get all the clamps and parts you need in the box. If you guys have any questions, as always, you can always reach out to one of our many Mustang experts using the 800 number, and they'd be more than happy to lend a fellow Mustang owner a hand. So, if you're looking to add some more performance and a tone to match the muscle behind your new S550 GT Mustang, then be sure to check out one of these Race Catback and H-Pipe Exhaust systems from MBRP, a leader in aftermarket exhausts, available right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Aggressive Sound And Performance. Now you can add a deep aggressive exhaust note to your coyote powered GT Mustang with a MBRP Race Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust System that has been specifically tuned to get the optimal sound from your 2015-2017 GT Mustang. This catback not only sounds great, but also improves exhaust flow with the included H-Pipe and High Flow Mufflers for an increase in rear wheel horsepower and torque.

Muscle Car Rumble. The included H-Pipe not only helps increase power, but it also adds a deep muscle car rumble to the sound of your exhaust with its classic "H" crossover pipe design.

Durable Construction. Constructed from 3" diameter aluminized steel tubing for strength and corrosion resistance, this MBRP Cat-Back exhaust system features two high flow race mufflers that end with 4.5" black powder coated 304 stainless steel slant cut exhaust tips. As an added bonus the tips are etched with the "MBRP" logo for true custom styling.

Direct Bolt-On Installation. Engineered to be a direct upgrade replacement for your Mustangs factory exhaust, the MBRP Race Cat-Back Exhaust Kit easily bolts up in the stock location with no modifications required.

Application. This race version of the MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust Kit is designed to fit all 2015-2017 GT Mustangs equipped with the 5.0L 4V coyote engine. It is available for both Fastback and Convertible models - Please select from the option field above.

How does this MBRP race catback compare to exhausts like the Borla ATAK catback or the Borla S-Type Catback in terms of noise/decibel level?

Ted

  • Sounds just as mean as the Flowmaster Outlaw cat back system. Very, very loud. True Mustang sound. The video does not compare to how mean it sounds. Everytime I ride in it I still can't believe how nice it sounds. It even sounds better outside the car.

what is the difference between the regular and the installer series?

stephenc

  • This MBRP exhaust is mild steel with an aluminized coating like the other installer series units. The regular units are constructed entirely of stainless steel. The exhaust tips in both units are still stainless steel however.

Which has the deeper old school growl the race or street exhaust, it seems to be the race in the videos I just wanted to make sure

  • With both the MBRP street exhaust and the MBRP race exhaust, the deeper of the 2 systems would be the MBRP race exhaust.

Review from MBRP XP Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ H-Pipe - Race Version (15-17 GT)

    AM Great! MBRP Terrible

American Muscle is outstanding, absolutely no complaints. However, MBRP is ridiculous. I have been back and forth with them since my install close to a month ago regarding the left pipe being misaligned. After sending them all the required documentation they refuse to warranty the exhaust and I'm stuck with a severely misaligned left tip almost touching the valance. The drone between 60 - 70 mph is almost eardrum shattering as well. Their customer service has ensured I will not buy another MBRP part, but I will continue to purchase other items via American Muscle.

    Very Deep / loud exhaust

Very happy with this exhaust, sound in very deep not raspy... Install took 1 hour but fine tuning fit ment took another 2 hours as I am very picky on how my vehicles look... Overall it's a very nice exhaust... Drone on high way speed 65 to 69 mph.... Stay on 5th gear till 70mph then shift to 6th to avoid highway drone... 3.73 PP

    LOUD PIPES!

These pipes are much louder than the factory ones. You will be pleasantly surprised if you are looking for noise makers. They are a deeper sound not a raspy sound you would get from X-pipe set ups. Be aware though. Long trips are going to be noisy. the sound resonates through the passenger compartment from the mufflers. You will hear a drone at certain speeds. Mine starts at about 61mph and gets loud at 65mph if I am on a slight incline. Above that speed the sound goes away magically unless you lay into the gas. If you get an annoying drone shift down or pop the paddle which ever one you have until your out of that speed threshold. At idle the car sounds mean. They roar out of stop signs as you push forward. The sound resonates in the body and steering wheel bringing back the feeling of a 60's muscle car rough and angry. Well worth the money.

    Love the sound!

Nice and loud, but not too bad! Not too raspy, but at the same time, it sounds like a mustang! Plus they held up really great when I hopped a curb and wrecked my car. The car isn't totaled, just needs new wheels, tires, and some suspension parts.

    WOW

My sons and I installed this in about 1.5 hours without difficulty. Average mechanical abilities. We love this exhaust! Sounds great at any speed. I don't feel like droning is an issue at highway speeds. I drive this thing just to hear the exhaust now! Butt-o-meter feels like it added some power, but let's face it, your just hitting the gas pedal harder to listen to it rip! We had one ding in one of the mufflers, but its fine. I dont see this black paint on the tips coming off, seems baked on, not just sprayed on. Time will tell. Tips are tight, spread a little and make sure they are fitted well before tightening. Outstanding value for the price. Glad I bought these.

    Loud and Deep

I spent the last six months shopping exhaust for my mustang, and I couldn't be happier with my choice! I wanted a deep healthy sounding exhaust note and MBRP delivers! The exhaust fit perfectly, and looks great. The 4" tips fill the rear valance well. This system is loud around town, but on the highway with cruise set interior levels are close to stock! This exhaust sounds sweet, turns heads, and draws compliments. Thank you MBRP and American Muscle!

Everyone will hate you within a 1 mile radius

Bought this catback since it has good reviews and its cheap. Quality is really good for the price you pay i have never installed a exhaust on any car i have owned but wow was this easy took me about 30 minutes. Now the sound it sounds so f'ing awesome this is how a 5.0 should sound like from the factory my favorite part is when i started early in the morning cold start sounds so good. Whoever is looking for a good cheap in price catback you guys can't go wrong with this one, a side note there is a drone between 1500-2000 rpm i don't mind it at all though.

    MBRP Race is LEGIT!!!

Quick and easy install. 40 minutes with a buddy and a lift. This exhaust is nice and LOUD!!! Drone at 65-70 in 6th gear but you don't buy this to take your grandma out for a weekend drive. Black tips look sweet on the Oxford white paint. This exhaust is a head turner and a rear view mirror checker. Great exhaust and fast shipping. Thanks AM!!!

Packaged well and delivered on time ... I've never installed an exhaust system this easily... Everything fit spot on... The welds and craftsmanship exceeded my expectations for the price... The sound ... Just pure awesomeness... The car gets a lot of attention when out on a Cruise ... Sounds very aggressive ...

    Bang for your buck!

Pros: - very nice rumble on low rpms and explosive growl when opened up. - exceeds quality for the price - easy install (a few hours on jack and jack stands with minimal assistance) - awesome stage 1 combo with the injen intake and Bama tune. Con: - drone on low rpm/early shift on 6th gear (2000-2500 range, 60-70 mph) but, not a deafening tone.

    Black MBRP catback sustem

I had checked out many other systems with short YouTube sound comparisons. I didn't want anything too loud but want that deeper non raspy sound and this set fit the bill. You can spend a lot of money or find something with a budget in mind like me and still get that great sound. One of the easiest exhaust installs I've ever done plus this will eliminate about 50 plus extra lbs. Delivery was fast and the price was right. Highly recommended. Great for the money!

So like most people who bought this, I didnt want to dish out 1200 for an exhaust system but still craved that muscle car sound. This system gave me exactly that. My only things with this system are 1. Wish it was louder when the car is idle 2. Drone at 1500-2000 RPM can get pretty bad (Cruise control makes it better) All in all, it's a great system for the price and I would DEFINITELY buy it again! Oh and it looks NASTY (the good nasty)

Review from MBRP Installer Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ H-Pipe - Race Version (15-17 GT)

    Unbelievable.

Let me say that I am a compulsive shop-arounder. I finally decided to pull the trigger on this system after good reviews and a great deal. How does it compare to other systems? When I went down to my shop to have it put in, there happened to be another 16 GT getting the Flowmaster Outlaws and the Ford racing X pipe put on. The MBRP's BLEW him out of the water on volume, and they only got louder after breaking them in. I routinely set off my garage mate's car alarm on a cold start. My girlfriend won't let me park behind her house because it "sounds like a jet engine." This turns heads all over. DRONE: Let me say a little something about the drone for a second. Yes, there is a drone from about 1600-1950 RPM. THAT SAID, a lot of the drone's presence will depend on your gearing. I have the GTPP, so 3.73 final drive. When I'm cruising on the highway, I am almost never turning in the drone zone. I'm always above it, even at a comfortable (but slow, very very slow) 68 mph. Around normal cruising (80......ish), not a chance I'll get any drone, turning too many rpm's. I suspect that a car with the 3.31 gearing will have drone issues closer to 65-68 mph, simply due to the final drive ratio and what you'll be turning in 6th at that speed. FITMENT Perfect fit, albeit the adjustable tips can be a bit of a pain. My right side was bent a little too far towards the center of the car and so my shop had to bend it slightly to clear the fender cutout. OVERALL Get this system if you want the famous burble at idle, want to hear every pop on a downshift, want to turn heads under normal acceleration, want to whip them around under heavy acceleration, and want to rip the space-time continuum at WOT. Stop reading, stop researching. Get these pipes. You won't regret it.

    Great exhaust for the price!

This is a great exhaust for the money. Sounds like a V8 should. It does drone some if you try to cruise around 60 but in and around town its fine. The tips look great in the bumper. All and all this is a great exhaust that I am very happy with.
