    Review & Install Video

Justin: Hey, everybody. I'm Justin with And I'm going to be breaking down a very budget-friendly catback system for your S550. I'm taking a closer look at the MBRP street catback exhaust system, fitting all 2015 GT's. MBRP is a Canadian-based performance exhaust company that's been making exhaust systems for a wide variety of applications for nearly two decades. Now their systems are definitely known to be on the more aggressive side, and as you guys heard, even though this is their street system, it still offers plenty of bark for that low muscle car rumble, thanks to the included H-pipe. A big thing I do want to point out here, though, with the MBRP systems is the price. Now as I mentioned at the beginning of this video, these things really do offer a great bang for your buck, and they come in at nearly half of the price of some other catback systems available for your 2015 GT. Another thing to point out here, when choosing a street system for your S550, you do have a few options here at American Muscle, including a full blacked-out version like you see here. They also offer a fully polished version of the stainless steel polished mufflers and polished tips. And if you're really looking to save a few bucks, well then they do offer a aluminized steel tubing version, which is basically the same exhaust I have with me here, but utilizes aluminized steel tubing in place of the stainless steel tubing, if you're looking to keep things on a very tight budget. All right. With that all out of the way, guys. Lets get into some of the details here with the MBRP street system. You are going to be looking at 3" mandrel-bent stainless steel tubing again with this kit here, leading into the street series mufflers and then out the 4 1/2" slash cut tips, etched with that MBRP logo. Now since this kit does utilize a true H-pipe design here, you are going to get that low, thumping muscle car tone that's typical when using an H-pipe, as opposed to that raspiness that comes along with an X-pipe. You'll be happy to know that catback installs with a 2015 Mustang are definitely much easier, compared to older generations, thanks largely in part to that new independent rear suspension, meaning there's no over axle pipes or anything like that. And because the MBRP is a direct bolt-on modification, meaning you don't have to cut whatsoever, you should be able to get this thing knocked out in under two hours, especially if you're working with a buddy. So if you guys are looking to crank up the volume on that new GT, but you want to leave some money left over for a few other mods, then be sure to check out the full MBRP lineup here at

Classic Muscle Car Exhaust Note. Now you can give your coyote powered S550 Mustang the aggressive exhaust note of a classic muscle car with a MBRP Street Cat-Back Exhaust System, that has been specifically tuned to get the optimal sound from your 2015-2017 GT Mustang. This catback not only sounds great, but also improves exhaust flow with the included H-Pipe for an increase in rear wheel horsepower and torque.

Muscle Car Rumble. The included H-Pipe not only helps increase power, but it also adds a deep muscle car rumble to the sound of your exhaust with its classic "H" crossover pipe design.

Durable Construction. Constructed from 3" diameter aluminized steel tubing for strength and corrosion resistance, this MBRP Cat-Back Exhaust System features two street mufflers that end with 4.5" black powder coated 304 stainless steel slant cut exhaust tips. As an added bonus, the tips are etched with the "MBRP" logo for true custom styling.

Direct Bolt-On Installation. Engineered to be a direct upgrade replacement for your Mustangs factory exhaust, the MBRP Street Cat-Back Exhaust Kit easily bolts up in the stock location with no modifications required.

Application. This MBRP Black Tipped Street Cat-Back Exhaust Kit is specifically designed to fit all 2015-2017 GT Mustangs equipped with the 5.0L 4V coyote engine. It is available for both Fastback and Convertible models - Please select from the option field above.

To those who already own this exhaust system, how is the drone on this? I used to have a 2016 v6 with outlaw axle backs and the drone was terrible, I hated it so much, is this bearable with this one?

        • The MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust has little to no drone at any speed. MBRP builds mufflers specific for the vehicle, and drone is one of the many attributes they account for, with having no drone being their ideal goal.

I have the base gt. I see in some pictures some have the base without much less prominent valence (like me) and others have the premium or pp version with a full rear valence. The fitment in the pics is really variable. Some with the larger valence protrude much more. Is this adjustable and to what degree ? What’s the min and max inches length it will protrude from a base Gt? I know it won’t be flush. I want to make sure what I see in pics was adjusted vs luck of the draw with pipe length.

        • The MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust has a slight adjustment to it based on how far the slip fit connectors are pushed together prior to clamping. We do not have a measurement on this, but typically ~1" from full forward to full backward can be achieved with this style exhaust.

Could anyone tell me about the boxes that the exhaust came in? I'm trying to figure out if I can fit them in my mustang with the back seats down, or if I'm going to need someone to haul them for me when I take it to get it installed. Any help is appreciated!!

        • It is not going to arrive pre-put-together inside the box, so you shouldn't have a problem fitting this inside of your Mustang.

Has anybody experienced rattling where the H-Pipe connects to the factory exhaust pipes/Catalytic converter ? I have tightened and adjusted the exhaust several times now, and about every month, the rattle reappears and I need to readjust the pipe in the factory clamps. The H-Pipe has cone-shaped ends and they seem to "slip" out of the of the clamp and cause a rattle at the connection point, the noise almost always seems to come from the passenger side (the side with the flex coupling in the exhaust) once the connection is loose, the flex coupling/clamp/pipe rattle until readjusted.

        • The MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust should not produce a rattling. With the pipes loosing connection, this is most likely a case of under or over tightening of the clamp, as too little tension can cause not enough pressure to be applied, allowing this to slowly slip loose, and over tightening can also cause the pipes to be slightly deformed when under load, allowing them to be essentially squeezed out of one another. We would recommend installing the exhaust with a small dab of blue Lok Tite on the threads of the clamps to prevent loosening, and torquing the clamps to the OEM spec of 35 Lb-ft.

Since this is a direct bolt-on for the factor set-up, how does this work with MBRP 3" long tube headers? The headers say they're designed to go with an MBRP cat-back, but they have a 3" connection where it looks like these are smaller to accommodate the factory headers. I could not seem to find an MBRP product that would bolt up to their 3" long tube headers. Thanks!

        • There would be a step down used to allow them to fit together and bolt up correctly. In the case of an S550 you have adapter tubes that come off of the headers that will accommodate the size needed to bolt these up.

So what is the difference between the Installer Series Street version and the XP Series Street version, other than the price? I didn't see anything different in the details on both of them. I'm wondering because I don't mind if I'm paying slightly more for the XP Series, as long as I know that there is a distinct difference between the two when I make my decision. Any info would be great. Thanks. 1 answer

I am looking at this and the Stainless Works Retro Chambered Cat-back w/ H-Pipe. The SW says it shaves off 22lbs, how does the MBRP stack up in overall weight? Will it take off as much, more or less than the SW? And what about power gain comparisons? Thanks. 1 answer

Iam always looking for the perfect sound...found it!...I had borla racing...very raspy. I had it paired with kooks green catted headers. To me, it was raspy and tinny sound, hard to explain. Did not care for it, so I figured go with the street since I had headers, didn't want it crazy loud with the race. Man, the combination of the headers and the street is absolutely amazing...much deeper, with a deeper rasp on WOT...In my opinion, the best combination I have ever heard. AMAZING and the amazing! The quest for the perfect exhaust note is now DONE!

            Amazing tone and value.

Just received this MBRP Street stainless system. It came in only 3 days and was in perfect condition. I couldn’t wait to get it installed and since I only have a single car garage at my condo I took it to a local shop and had it installed in under an hour. It sounds amazing. Nice and throaty at idle but when you step on it it really wakes up. For the price I just don’t see how you can do any better than this system. Oh and no drone.

Major upgrade over factory cat back

I just installed this last week and was immediately impressed with both the look and tone. I initially hesitated on the black but now think the black exhaust is the way to go. Great aggressive look. Lastly, the value is unparalleled!

            Just as advertised

Product came in quick and took about an 1 1/2 hours to install. Love the quietness inside the car and the loudness outside the car. That was the main reason I went with this cat back system

            Convertible Install is More Involved

The street version is pretty loud. Not crazy loud but a bit raspier and louder than anticipated. It is very high quality and install on jack stands by one person is very doable. I have a 2017 convertible and it required removal of the under car bracing which wil roughly double your install time. Took me 3 hours but I went slow. The convertible version is two pieces on each side after the h-pipe rather than a single piece as on the fastback application. That adds some complexity to get it all lined up right. With a multi piece set up that relies on clamps, it tends to sag a bit and there doesn’t seem to be a remedy for that. One side is touching the under bracing which had me worried about possible rattles. Fortunately there is no rattle and all is good, so far. Definitely worth the money and your s550 will sound much more aggressive. My wife hates it but if you’re going to pay up for a V-8 might as well get that muscle car sound you wanted in the first place. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is the slightly limp set up with multiple clamped joints on the convertible version.

Did some research and picked the MBRP over some of the more expensive brands. System comes in a manageable size box within a couple days. I was able to install myself using jack stands in about 3 hours. Hardest parts were removing the one piece OEM system (awkward and heavy) and doing the last tweaking of new system to get positioned just right. The sounds is amazing, loud outside where it counts, but inside not much of any drone. Highly recommend this system if you are looking for a great sound improvement over the OEM system and don't want to pay a heavy price tag.

best bang for your buck. not too loud, yet noticeably louder. sounds 10x better than stock. I went on a 300 mile road trip the next day with no radio just so I can listen how nice it sounded. highly recommend it, if your on a budget or not. took about 2 hours to install with only using jack stands.

            Great tone, no drone

Fantastic throaty tone. No cabin drone. 3/5 loudness, exactly as AM says. But it did not fit easily, even though it was in two pieces per side, the bend at the h-pipe was not the same on both sides and I had a devil of a time getting my middle right hanger to position for the screw to fit in. In short, fit was terrible, way off. And the rear hanger hooks? Seriously? Out at a 45 degree angle no matter how I turned it.

Great exhaust system for the money.

If you’re on a tight budget like I am, this system is a great buy. The install was easy, everything fit well and the sound is great. It’s not load but very throaty. The axle backs and x-pipe I had I on before we’re just too loud and droned. This system provide the sound I wanted and no drone!

Once i cold started my Gt i was all smiles.Sounds great and on heavy throttle it really rips nice. Thank American Muscle.

            Great sound.

I installed on my 15 GT and I'm very pleased. I have had a 96 and 05 both with exhaust that was extremely loud. I wanted a change as a daily driver and it's perfect. Quiet until you push it opening up with a deep muscle car tone. Absolutely no drone on the highway. Took only 45min to install but I had a lift, air ratchet, and a buddy to help me drop the stock. I did have to adjust the hangers a few times but ended up with perfect fitment.

This is my second exhaust from MBRP. First one was for the EcoBoost that I traded in and this one for the GT. Sounds great, fits perfectly only one issue, one of the exhaust pipes that the tips clamp on to was bent. Same as the first one. Otherwise very happy. Only took 1.5 hrs by myself.
