    Review & Install Video

Justin: Hey, everybody. I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com. And I'm going to be breaking down a very budget-friendly catback system for your S550. I'm taking a closer look at the MBRP street catback exhaust system, fitting all 2015 GT's. MBRP is a Canadian-based performance exhaust company that's been making exhaust systems for a wide variety of applications for nearly two decades. Now their systems are definitely known to be on the more aggressive side, and as you guys heard, even though this is their street system, it still offers plenty of bark for that low muscle car rumble, thanks to the included H-pipe. A big thing I do want to point out here, though, with the MBRP systems is the price. Now as I mentioned at the beginning of this video, these things really do offer a great bang for your buck, and they come in at nearly half of the price of some other catback systems available for your 2015 GT. Another thing to point out here, when choosing a street system for your S550, you do have a few options here at American Muscle, including a full blacked-out version like you see here. They also offer a fully polished version of the stainless steel polished mufflers and polished tips. And if you're really looking to save a few bucks, well then they do offer a aluminized steel tubing version, which is basically the same exhaust I have with me here, but utilizes aluminized steel tubing in place of the stainless steel tubing, if you're looking to keep things on a very tight budget. All right. With that all out of the way, guys. Lets get into some of the details here with the MBRP street system. You are going to be looking at 3" mandrel-bent stainless steel tubing again with this kit here, leading into the street series mufflers and then out the 4 1/2" slash cut tips, etched with that MBRP logo. Now since this kit does utilize a true H-pipe design here, you are going to get that low, thumping muscle car tone that's typical when using an H-pipe, as opposed to that raspiness that comes along with an X-pipe. You'll be happy to know that catback installs with a 2015 Mustang are definitely much easier, compared to older generations, thanks largely in part to that new independent rear suspension, meaning there's no over axle pipes or anything like that. And because the MBRP is a direct bolt-on modification, meaning you don't have to cut whatsoever, you should be able to get this thing knocked out in under two hours, especially if you're working with a buddy. So if you guys are looking to crank up the volume on that new GT, but you want to leave some money left over for a few other mods, then be sure to check out the full MBRP lineup here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Classic Muscle Car Exhaust Note. Now you can give your coyote powered S550 Mustang the aggressive exhaust note of a classic muscle car with a MBRP Street Cat-Back Exhaust System, that has been specifically tuned to get the optimal sound from your 2015-2017 GT Mustang. This catback not only sounds great, but also improves exhaust flow with the included H-Pipe for an increase in rear wheel horsepower and torque.

Muscle Car Rumble. The included H-Pipe not only helps increase power, but it also adds a deep muscle car rumble to the sound of your exhaust with its classic "H" crossover pipe design.

Durable Construction. Constructed from 3" diameter aluminized steel tubing for strength and corrosion resistance, this MBRP Cat-Back Exhaust System features two street mufflers that end with 4.5" black powder coated 304 stainless steel slant cut exhaust tips. As an added bonus, the tips are etched with the "MBRP" logo for true custom styling.

Direct Bolt-On Installation. Engineered to be a direct upgrade replacement for your Mustangs factory exhaust, the MBRP Street Cat-Back Exhaust Kit easily bolts up in the stock location with no modifications required.

Application. This MBRP Black Tipped Street Cat-Back Exhaust Kit is specifically designed to fit all 2015-2017 GT Mustangs equipped with the 5.0L 4V coyote engine. It is available for both Fastback and Convertible models - Please select from the option field above.

I have the base gt. I see in some pictures some have the base without much less prominent valence (like me) and others have the premium or pp version with a full rear valence. The fitment in the pics is really variable. Some with the larger valence protrude much more. Is this adjustable and to what degree ? What’s the min and max inches length it will protrude from a base Gt? I know it won’t be flush. I want to make sure what I see in pics was adjusted vs luck of the draw with pipe length.

    JS

    • The MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust has a slight adjustment to it based on how far the slip fit connectors are pushed together prior to clamping. We do not have a measurement on this, but typically ~1" from full forward to full backward can be achieved with this style exhaust.

Since this is a direct bolt-on for the factor set-up, how does this work with MBRP 3" long tube headers? The headers say they're designed to go with an MBRP cat-back, but they have a 3" connection where it looks like these are smaller to accommodate the factory headers. I could not seem to find an MBRP product that would bolt up to their 3" long tube headers. Thanks!

    sleeperstang

    • There would be a step down used to allow them to fit together and bolt up correctly. In the case of an S550 you have adapter tubes that come off of the headers that will accommodate the size needed to bolt these up.

To those who already own this exhaust system, how is the drone on this? I used to have a 2016 v6 with outlaw axle backs and the drone was terrible, I hated it so much, is this bearable with this one?

    Rush

    • The MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust has little to no drone at any speed. MBRP builds mufflers specific for the vehicle, and drone is one of the many attributes they account for, with having no drone being their ideal goal.

Has anybody experienced rattling where the H-Pipe connects to the factory exhaust pipes/Catalytic converter ? I have tightened and adjusted the exhaust several times now, and about every month, the rattle reappears and I need to readjust the pipe in the factory clamps. The H-Pipe has cone-shaped ends and they seem to "slip" out of the of the clamp and cause a rattle at the connection point, the noise almost always seems to come from the passenger side (the side with the flex coupling in the exhaust) once the connection is loose, the flex coupling/clamp/pipe rattle until readjusted.

    LukeL

    • The MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust should not produce a rattling. With the pipes loosing connection, this is most likely a case of under or over tightening of the clamp, as too little tension can cause not enough pressure to be applied, allowing this to slowly slip loose, and over tightening can also cause the pipes to be slightly deformed when under load, allowing them to be essentially squeezed out of one another. We would recommend installing the exhaust with a small dab of blue Lok Tite on the threads of the clamps to prevent loosening, and torquing the clamps to the OEM spec of 35 Lb-ft.

Im sitting on Eibach Sportlines, will I have any issues rubbing wise? Whats the low point?

    AndranikO

    • There should not be any issues with rubbing with this exhaust kit. We also do not have the measurements available for exactly how low it will sit.

So what is the difference between the Installer Series Street version and the XP Series Street version, other than the price? I didn't see anything different in the details on both of them. I'm wondering because I don't mind if I'm paying slightly more for the XP Series, as long as I know that there is a distinct difference between the two when I make my decision. Any info would be great. Thanks.

    xGearheadxDavex

    • The MBRP Installer Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ H-Pipe will be aluminized tubing which will eventually rust over time. Whereas the XP series will use stainless steel tubing which will not rust.

Maybe i should have gone louder.

It's a pretty good exhaust overall but for the price maybe I should have chosen something a little louder but if you're looking for something that gives you that extra sound but it's not too obnoxious and this is the perfect exhaust for you

      Muscle car sound

I was hesitant at first due to the lower price of this system; however it is exactly what I was looking for: a deep muscle car sound. This system makes the mustang sound like it should. It’s not so loud as to be obnoxious, it’s just right, especially when you get into it. Had it installed about 2 weeks ago and I don’t think I’ve turned on my radio since, I just listen to that badass sound.

MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/H-Pipe

The fit and finish on this system is exceptionally good for the price, it easy bolted right up to my 17' GT w/PP and looks great but sounds even better, especially under 1/2 open throttle or more. I'm definitely glad I chose this system over all the others for my car!

      Good quality nice sound

It's not as loud as it seems in the video cruising down the freeway u can't tell it's not stock. I really like having all stainless it just seems really well built and quality is great. It's defiantly not a 1 person job if your on jackstands or ramps like I was getting the stock stuff off is more of a pain than putting this on. Would be 15 minutes if u had a lift. The tips look nice but aren't contoured to the bumper bit still look great. To get the tips centered in the bumper wait to tighten up the clamps and have a 2nd person center it and u tighten claps.

      Why would you spend more

Just put it on last weekend. Glorious growl below 4000rpm and really pops when you open up the throttle. Well worth the money and wakes the mustang GTs up. Simple and easy install, no alignment issues at all, no drone, fantastic sound. I was debating between this and the FP by Borla and the Corsa, very glad I picked this one and didn’t waste the extra money bc I love it and now have more money for performance mods.

      Great Sound!

I was reluctant about this purchase even though I had listened to lots of mufflers and reviews for same. These were at a very good price and they sound terrific. Not to loud when cruising but put your foot on it and man that is an awesome sound.

Review from MBRP XP Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ H-Pipe - Street Version (15-17 GT)

      Amazing bang for your buck

The MBRP cat-back system is a great exhaust for the money and is comparable to other systems costing A LOT more. MBRP is a Canadian company and has been in the aftermarket exhaust business for over 17 years. This system includes FULL 3" tubing, an h-pipe, polished mufflers and super polished 4.5" tips, which can be adjusted in or out from the rear facia (something many systems don't offer and is a must in my opinion, since some people don't like their exhaust tips sticking out too far). As for install, it's super easy and fits PERFECTLY. The biggest tip I can give during install is make sure the h-pipe is completely flat and LEVEL, otherwise you will have a hard time getting the tips to be centered in the rear facia. Also don't tighten everything down until AFTER you are happy with the rear tip placement. An extra set of hands will help with the final part of the install/placement. Detailed instructions are also included. As for the sound, I absolutely love it. What I love most about this system are the various tones and sounds at different rpm levels and throttle positions. Under normal driving it sounds nice and deep, and at full throttle it sounds LOUD and ANGRY. And in-between, whether coasting or in the upper rpm's, well it sounds just like a V8 should. The tone is deep and not raspy like some other systems. I'd say this is gives that classic Mustang sound pre-2011 Coyote. I've had several compliments on it already, the latest from the fuel delivery truck driver when I pulled in for gas. There is maybe a tiny hint of drone at 1500-ish rpm's in 6th when accelerating, but it's very, very minimal and perfectly acceptable for a full cat-back system that sounds this good. The exhaust is pretty quiet at highway speeds in 6th and isn't annoying at all. If you want loud, just downshift to 3rd or 4th :) . I recommend the street version vs the race as that system definitely has drone and is louder too. If you're considering the Roush axle-back like I was, just spend a bit extra and get this, a proper cat-back system that will really open up your big bad V8.

      Jekyll and Hyde

I did a lot of research and listened to many videos prior to making my purchase of this exhaust. I could have spent twice what I paid for this system, but I wanted the sound I was hearing. Under normal driving you can keep the volume tame and subdued, but hop on the throttle and it screams! Don't let the price fool you either, the quality of the product (XP Series) also exceeded my expectations.

      2017 GT Convertable

I had a local shop install, cost $80.00. They had a lift. The drone at startup (high idle) is more than I expected, but not bad though, I assume that's because of the convertible top. An other speed sounds great. Now that I used to it, I have no complaint.

      Amazing sound

The exhaust sounds great and the price is even better. I installed this myself in about 1.5 hours including removal and the fine adjustments of the tips. The exhaust sounds great. It is on the louder side but AM makes that known before you purchase. At cruising speed light throttle the exhaust is a mean rumble. When you open it up it screams (sounds good not obnoxious). I would recommend this exhaust to anyone looking for a medium to aggressive exhaust under throttle and a noticible rumble at cruising speed.

Review from MBRP Installer Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ H-Pipe - Street Version (15-17 GT)

      Just like what everyone said.

A friend of mine bought the street version for his 2017 mustang. I loved the way it sounded. He said they were easy to install and weren't that noticeable when you didn't have your foot in the pedal. So I bought me a set. Love them and to think I thought the stock exhaust was all I needed. I highly recommend this product.
