    Review & Install Video

Justin: Hey, everybody. I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com. And I'm going to be breaking down a very budget-friendly catback system for your S550. I'm taking a closer look at the MBRP street catback exhaust system, fitting all 2015 GT's. MBRP is a Canadian-based performance exhaust company that's been making exhaust systems for a wide variety of applications for nearly two decades. Now their systems are definitely known to be on the more aggressive side, and as you guys heard, even though this is their street system, it still offers plenty of bark for that low muscle car rumble, thanks to the included H-pipe. A big thing I do want to point out here, though, with the MBRP systems is the price. Now as I mentioned at the beginning of this video, these things really do offer a great bang for your buck, and they come in at nearly half of the price of some other catback systems available for your 2015 GT. Another thing to point out here, when choosing a street system for your S550, you do have a few options here at American Muscle, including a full blacked-out version like you see here. They also offer a fully polished version of the stainless steel polished mufflers and polished tips. And if you're really looking to save a few bucks, well then they do offer a aluminized steel tubing version, which is basically the same exhaust I have with me here, but utilizes aluminized steel tubing in place of the stainless steel tubing, if you're looking to keep things on a very tight budget. All right. With that all out of the way, guys. Lets get into some of the details here with the MBRP street system. You are going to be looking at 3" mandrel-bent stainless steel tubing again with this kit here, leading into the street series mufflers and then out the 4 1/2" slash cut tips, etched with that MBRP logo. Now since this kit does utilize a true H-pipe design here, you are going to get that low, thumping muscle car tone that's typical when using an H-pipe, as opposed to that raspiness that comes along with an X-pipe. You'll be happy to know that catback installs with a 2015 Mustang are definitely much easier, compared to older generations, thanks largely in part to that new independent rear suspension, meaning there's no over axle pipes or anything like that. And because the MBRP is a direct bolt-on modification, meaning you don't have to cut whatsoever, you should be able to get this thing knocked out in under two hours, especially if you're working with a buddy. So if you guys are looking to crank up the volume on that new GT, but you want to leave some money left over for a few other mods, then be sure to check out the full MBRP lineup here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Classic Muscle Car Exhaust Note. Now you can give your coyote powered S550 Mustang the aggressive exhaust note of a classic muscle car with a MBRP Street Cat-Back Exhaust System, that has been specifically tuned to get the optimal sound from your 2015-2017 GT Mustang. This catback not only sounds great, but also improves exhaust flow with the included H-Pipe for an increase in rear wheel horsepower and torque.

Muscle Car Rumble. The included H-Pipe not only helps increase power, but it also adds a deep muscle car rumble to the sound of your exhaust with its classic "H" crossover pipe design.

Durable Construction. Constructed from 3" diameter aluminized steel tubing for strength and corrosion resistance, this MBRP Cat-Back Exhaust System features two street mufflers that end with 4.5" black powder coated 304 stainless steel slant cut exhaust tips. As an added bonus, the tips are etched with the "MBRP" logo for true custom styling.

Direct Bolt-On Installation. Engineered to be a direct upgrade replacement for your Mustangs factory exhaust, the MBRP Street Cat-Back Exhaust Kit easily bolts up in the stock location with no modifications required.

Application. This MBRP Black Tipped Street Cat-Back Exhaust Kit is specifically designed to fit all 2015-2017 GT Mustangs equipped with the 5.0L 4V coyote engine. It is available for both Fastback and Convertible models - Please select from the option field above.

To those who already own this exhaust system, how is the drone on this? I used to have a 2016 v6 with outlaw axle backs and the drone was terrible, I hated it so much, is this bearable with this one?

    • The MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust has little to no drone at any speed. MBRP builds mufflers specific for the vehicle, and drone is one of the many attributes they account for, with having no drone being their ideal goal.

I have the base gt. I see in some pictures some have the base without much less prominent valence (like me) and others have the premium or pp version with a full rear valence. The fitment in the pics is really variable. Some with the larger valence protrude much more. Is this adjustable and to what degree ? What’s the min and max inches length it will protrude from a base Gt? I know it won’t be flush. I want to make sure what I see in pics was adjusted vs luck of the draw with pipe length.

    • The MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust has a slight adjustment to it based on how far the slip fit connectors are pushed together prior to clamping. We do not have a measurement on this, but typically ~1" from full forward to full backward can be achieved with this style exhaust.

Could anyone tell me about the boxes that the exhaust came in? I'm trying to figure out if I can fit them in my mustang with the back seats down, or if I'm going to need someone to haul them for me when I take it to get it installed. Any help is appreciated!!

    • It is not going to arrive pre-put-together inside the box, so you shouldn't have a problem fitting this inside of your Mustang.

Has anybody experienced rattling where the H-Pipe connects to the factory exhaust pipes/Catalytic converter ? I have tightened and adjusted the exhaust several times now, and about every month, the rattle reappears and I need to readjust the pipe in the factory clamps. The H-Pipe has cone-shaped ends and they seem to "slip" out of the of the clamp and cause a rattle at the connection point, the noise almost always seems to come from the passenger side (the side with the flex coupling in the exhaust) once the connection is loose, the flex coupling/clamp/pipe rattle until readjusted.

    • The MBRP Black Series Cat-Back Exhaust should not produce a rattling. With the pipes loosing connection, this is most likely a case of under or over tightening of the clamp, as too little tension can cause not enough pressure to be applied, allowing this to slowly slip loose, and over tightening can also cause the pipes to be slightly deformed when under load, allowing them to be essentially squeezed out of one another. We would recommend installing the exhaust with a small dab of blue Lok Tite on the threads of the clamps to prevent loosening, and torquing the clamps to the OEM spec of 35 Lb-ft.

Since this is a direct bolt-on for the factor set-up, how does this work with MBRP 3" long tube headers? The headers say they're designed to go with an MBRP cat-back, but they have a 3" connection where it looks like these are smaller to accommodate the factory headers. I could not seem to find an MBRP product that would bolt up to their 3" long tube headers. Thanks!

    • There would be a step down used to allow them to fit together and bolt up correctly. In the case of an S550 you have adapter tubes that come off of the headers that will accommodate the size needed to bolt these up.

So what is the difference between the Installer Series Street version and the XP Series Street version, other than the price? I didn't see anything different in the details on both of them. I'm wondering because I don't mind if I'm paying slightly more for the XP Series, as long as I know that there is a distinct difference between the two when I make my decision. Review from MBRP Installer Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ H-Pipe - Street Version (15-17 GT)

      Easy installation. great sound

These pipes are really good quality for the money. They stay quiet when you want them to, but will really get some sound going when get above 3k rpm. I would recomment installing these with a biddy or two. More people makes it easier to get the pipes looking good and squared.

      MBRP XP Street Version

Quality product (arrived on time with slight scratch -- packaging was damaged). Sounds awesome on start-up and then quiets down. If you are just cruising down the street you would be hard pressed to notice that the exhaust is after market BUT step on it and everyone knows -- loud, muscle car roar without the highway drone.

sounds good, especially for the price

Delivered on time. Box was fairly beat up, but most of everything inside was in good condition. Not great packaging though. Did find that one of the ends of the muffler that the tip slides on was bent, with paint scraped off. Suspect due to bad packaging. Bent it back with some pliers, and was able to slide the tip on. Giving three stars due to this. Overall, makes ride quality over the stock exhaust a lot more fun, even when city driving. Highway driving is amazing, especially with very no drone other than around the 60mph mark (still very little). Cold starts can be a bit brutal, but even for my neighborhood, it's the perfect amount. Any more and it'd be too much. Installed on jacks. ezpz.

This was the perfect replacement for my Magnaflow Street Series catback exhaust. I wanted something a little bit louder with black tips. It's loud when you want it to be and absolutely no highway drone when cruising.

Review from MBRP XP Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ H-Pipe - Street Version (15-17 GT)

      Good value

Easy to install except for slight misalignment of exhaust tips that requires use of torch to center. For the most part, excellent sound. Quiet at idle and just above, so, easy to get out of the neighborhood without being shot at. However, very annoying "thrumming" from 1300 to 2800 that is physically annoying. I suspect some infra-sonic resonance. Use of earplugs necessary for me when driving around town and, unfortunately, when cruising in 6th from 65 to 80 mph. May try RTR axle back; but of course that negates the price advantage. Would recommend auditioning before buying, if possible. Video gives an idea of sound, but of course is limited across the sound spectrum. Performance-wise: excellent! Noticeable increase in HP, seems to smooth out the acceleration curve, and gets to redline more quickly.

It took me a little longer than expected to install it, but unfortunately I don't have a lift so I was laying on my back to do the install. That being said, the install was very straightforward and pretty easy. The sound...wow!!!! Admittedly it's a little louder than I thought, but not too loud..I love the tone and the sound.

      Really loud with LTs

Quality tubing. Explosively loud if you combine with Long Tubes, though. Ended up splicing some magnapacks in the middle to quiet it down, but if loud and raspy V8 is what you're going for, this is it. Cover your ears Definitely worth it for the 3" as base piping, even if you're gonna chop it up

      Sounds really deep and aggresive

This was the exact kind of exhaust I've been looking for. I wanted something that was loud, but tame enough that I wouldn't be annoying my neighbors every morning. It's got a really aggressive deep muscle car tone to it and can be loud when you're on the pedal. Highway drone is very very minimal.

Review from MBRP XP Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ H-Pipe - Street Version (15-17 GT)

Only loud when you want it

Heads up, I've had to get two of these (an unfortunate accided destroyed my first *tear*) but in both cases the exhaust tips do not line up perfectly. They fit, and are drive-able but they're always about 1/4" off from being perfect. Not a problem with the exhaust, no two cars are exactly the same so make sure you have a torch and a clamp handy to bend some steel. As far as everything else goes, the exhaust is loud when you get on it, and it has that low growl that you'd expect from something in the 70's which I love. However, when you're driving in from a night out and don't want to wake your neighborhood, it's much quieter. No drone on the highway, sounds great from the inside and out.

Review from MBRP Installer Series Cat-Back Exhaust w/ H-Pipe - Street Version (15-17 GT)

      Beautiful sound!

The rumble and roar of this exhaust is exactly what I was looking for. It is significantly louder than stock. However, once warmed and at idle, it is very tame. Even around town, it just growls along at a comfortable level. But take it to the highway and open up past 3k, it's a whole new monster. It screams, it pops and the oh so lovely brraap when you let off the throttle at 6k! I couldn't be happier, it feels like two systems in one. A note on drone: I detected a slight hint of it in 6th gear at about 65mph. Now, I have the PP with 3.73 rear, so figure I was around 2500rpm. But, it is not bad at all and probably not noticeable to most. I was specifically listening for it. On ramps, it took a buddy and me about an hour to get it on, and that was mostly wrestling the stock system off. Everything lined up great, and went on easy!
