Jake: Jake here for American Muscle. And today, I'm taking a look at the PowerStop Z26 Extreme Street Carbon-Ceramic Rear Brake Pads, for 2015 and newer Challenger Demons, Hellcats, R/T 392s, Scat Packs, and SRT 392 models, as well as the 2008 to 2014 Challenger SRT8 models. Now, these are gonna appeal to the Challenger owner who's looking for a way to upgrade their braking power without compromise. These are a high-quality, super-low dust brake pad that's gonna provide you with better overall braking performance without costing a fortune. These are perfect for the street-driven car that sees some additional high-performance driving, and excellent for something as powerful as a Challenger.PowerStop focuses on one thing and one thing only, and that's brakes. Their mission is to deliver superior braking performance at an affordable price, and that's exactly what these pads deliver. PowerStop's proprietary carbon fiber ceramic compound provides excellent stopping power for street-driven muscle cars. So, these are gonna provide excellent heat dissipation and solid braking no matter the temperature, because that compound also makes for a stable friction coefficient, even at higher temperatures. So that means you're gonna avoid brake fade if you're going at it on your favorite back road, or if you happen to be at an auto cross or a quick track day, and they're still gonna maintain everyday drivability. Now, the surface of the pads here are thermal scorched as well, to make for a faster and more effective break-in. So that means they're gonna brake better and brake faster. Lots of up-rated brake pads lead to a compromise too when it comes to regular use, such as just driving around town with the family. Sometimes that might be in braking feel. The initial bite may come on a bit later than it did with your stock brakes, or they might bite really well, but they produce a ton of dust.Usually, there's some kind of compromise. However, that's not the case here. There is virtually no compromise in brake performance or feel. And in fact, PowerStop also claims that these pads are nearly dust-free. Now, of course, no brake pad is entirely dust-free, due to the nature of how they work, but these are a super-low dust formula, and it's gonna keep your wheels a lot cleaner, which is especially good if you got some really nice aftermarket wheels on your car, or if you're like me and you just can't stand cleaning your wheels. Moreover, these are also designed to operate with virtually no noise. So, unlike a lot of other performance-oriented pads out on the market, you're not gonna get that annoying squealing after the pads have been worn in a bit. So this makes them excellent in street-driven applications, because you're not gonna get that squeal every time you come to a stop sign or a red light. Now, mind you, if you're looking to do some serious track duty with your Challenger, you might wanna look into some more track-oriented brake pads. But, for street driving, these are gonna be an excellent choice, without compromise. Now, the backs of the pads, too, are finished in this nice powder coat, so they're gonna provide excellent corrosion resistance, making them durable, and pretty much worry-free.You also get all-new hardware in the box. So, PowerStop includes premium stainless steel shims and pins, as well as high-temp lubricant for better heat dissipation, and noise-free operation. So, if you're looking for an upgrade to your brake pads, without compromising anything, and having a focus on heat dissipation, these are gonna be an excellent choice for you. Now, in regards to price, these are only gonna run you about $90 for the set, and that's a really good value when it comes to a performance-oriented brake pad. They far undercut some of the other options out there on the market for the Challenger. And for what you get here, I think these are way more than worth it.Installation is easy as well, coming in at a one out of three on our difficulty meter. These should only take you about an hour to swap in. Just a matter of popping the old ones out and putting the new ones in their place, because these are a direct bolt-in replacement for your stock pads. So this means that it is easily a job that you can get done in your driveway at home. And to show you just how to do it, let's throw it over to one of our AM customers right now.Male Speaker: Little ball peen hammer. Any hammer will do. Small punch, and then a little center punch. That's pretty much all you're really gonna need to change out your brake pads, and we're gonna start with your rear ones first. Obviously, you can see the wheels are off already. I have it on a lift. You could do it on the floor with a jack, obviously, but I prefer to do it on a lift because that's what I have. So, to remove them, you use the little bit larger punch first on the little pins that you see here on the top side of the caliper. Give it a little pop, and once it stops, then you use the small one, and then this way, it'll ride the, inside the rail, and that came loose and that came loose. Slide the pin out, and then the fastener clip keeps a little tension on there. It's gonna pop out. Set it to the side. The kit comes with new ones. Put the pin aside, because you're gonna need it again. And then, top pin out. Set it aside. And then you can see the rotor is loose. They're brand new pads, so you really don't need anything else to get the pistons to retract. If you have to, then I recommend you can use a pry bar in there, a flat one, to get behind it, to squeeze the cylinder, or once you get 'em out, if you really needed to take a caliper off, which you don't have to, and then you can use a clamp. They do have a device that are made for calipers, that will extract the pistons back. But in this case, being it's a brand new car, no mileage, and as you can tell, they're brand new, and we're swapping 'em out with brand new, there's no need to really do anything like that.Obviously, we're opening up the Extremes, which are supposed to be a lot less dust. They have probably a little bit better braking power than the standard ones that come with it. Reason why the customer is changing it, they don't wanna deal with all the brake dust. And these do a great job of minimizing the brake dust. And obviously, we got 'em from American Muscle.Comes complete, the kit. You can tell. New pins, clips, some grease-like stuff that ends up going on the back of the pads. They can go on there. Here's the brand new pads. Obviously, set for the complete rear. Being that this car is brand new, those pins are brand new, I'm gonna reuse the same ones that came off of it. Obviously, if you've had some wear on your brakes, you're gonna wanna use the new ones. But in this case, the car is brand new. You don't need to do that. And I'm not gonna put any of that composite on these brake pads. It doesn't need it. You can if you want to, but I'm not using it.Then you just insert them back in the way you took them out. See, they slide right back in. Then I'm gonna put the top pin back in it. Line them back up. See there's holes there in the brake pads. Once you get it started, then you need that little hammer. You don't need nothing major. Doesn't take a lot of effort. And as you can see, pop through, and it is all the way seated. I'm gonna verify it. Yep. Now I'm gonna put the clip in.As you can see, both pins are in the clip [inaudible 00:08:40]. I'm gonna double check, make sure the pins are all the way in, by using the punch and a little hammer. And there you go. That's it. Now we're gonna do the other side. You can tell it only took a few minutes. I think it takes longer to take the wheels off and put them back on than it does to change the brakes.Top one. Bottom one. Smaller punch, so you can get right inside there. Probably could [inaudible 00:09:17] off with this, but it's so small. I don't wanna chip the paint up around the caliper, so I start off with the bigger one, so this way, if it slips, it's gonna catch inside the hole and it won't do any chipping. So, this back. So, this one back. [inaudible 00:09:47] One brake shoe. Second brake shoe. Second new one. Second one. All in. All in.I'm gonna put the wheel back on. I'm gonna use an impact wrench. It's quicker and easier. Actually have some tape around the socket, so this way it doesn't mark up the wheel. Start off easy. And that's it. I'm gonna put the other one on.Jake: That's gonna wrap it up for our review and install of the PowerStop Z26 Extreme Street Carbon-Ceramic Rear Brake Pads for the 2015 and newer Challenger models. Thank you so much for watching, and remember, for all things Challenger, be sure to keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.
