    Review & Installation Video

Hey I’m Justin with, and I’m taking a closer look at the Pypes violator series catback exhaust, fitting the 98-04 Mustang GT, Mach 1, and Bullitt. Pypes exhaust systems usually feature very aggressive tones and it’s the same with the violator kit shown here. The name comes from the two violator series mufflers that this entire kit is built around. They actually feature mini sound deflectors in place of the traditional baffles, which will really allow your 4.6 to be heard. As for the construction we’re looking at full 409 grade stainless throughout, including the 2.5” mandrel bent tubing, the violator mufflers, and those 3.5” OE style polished tips. We do have this exact same kit used on our 98 GT bolt on build up, in conjunction with Pypes’ off road X-pipe which they refer to as their beast setup, and let me just say I am a really big fan of this exhaust. As for the install you will need to cut your factory exhaust just to remove it entirely but after that the new Pypes system should install without modification in about 2 hours. Now let’s hear how the Pypes violator series catback sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

Increase In Performance. Bolting on a Pypes Violator Cat-Back system to a stock 1998 to 2004 GT will yield an instant 8 to 13 horsepower gain. It features two of Pypes Violator mufflers for the ultimate in flow and power gains with an aggressive rude sound.

Aggressive Sound. Pypes CatBack features the Violator "Rude Sound" muffler that uses an internal louvered tube with mini sound deflector chambers that result of a unique aggressive muscle car sound.

Quality Materials. This Pypes Cat-Back Exhaust is constructed from free flowing mandrel bent 2.5" 409 stainless steel tubing and features Pypes Violator chambered mufflers for an aggressive throaty sound. The whole system is finished off with a set of 3.5" Polished 304 stainless steel tips for classic Muscle Car styling.

Application. The Pypes Violator Cat-Back Exhaust kit is specifically designed to simply bolt-on to the existing stock H-Pipe of any 1998 to 2004 4.6L GT, Bullitt, or Mach 1 Mustang for more power and a more aggressive sound.

    Is it compatible with a 01 v6

    • In order to use this Violator Catback (or any other GT catback) on your V6, you would have to install either the Pypes Catted or Off-road X-pipe designed for the V6 or use the V6 Dual Exhaust Adapter Kit. I've attached all (3) options below so you can take a look and decide which would be best for your application. One of these mid-pipes would then allow this or any other GT catback to bolt up without issue! Hope this helps!

Is this legal in California? Will it pass smog?

    • Only headers and catalytic converters are affected by somg tests. If the exhaust you are looking at doesn't involve these pieces then you have nothing to worry about.

I just ask a question able fitment for my 2003 GT Premium but I read it fits coupe and convertible so all I need to know is about the tips you say the Pypes catback come with 3-1/2 tips which is what I want with the SFM27V other places say 3 in just want to make sure before buying.

    • The Pypes Violator Cat-Back Exhaust (98-04 GT, Mach 1) will come with a 3.5" tip and will fit both convertible and coupe models.

I want to give my 02 GT a more aggressive sound to it and this seems like it, but it is also my daily driver. I'm not much of a mechanic and I want to know will it cause my Check Engine light to come on?

    • No, it will not.

I have a 2000 V6, what else do i need to purchase to be able to use this exhaust set up?

    • To run a GT exhaust on your V6, you will have to purchase the PaceSetter Black Long Tube Headers Item #51056 along with the PaceSetter Offroad X-Pipe Item #51061. Then you will be able to install this GT exhaust for some awesome sound and performance just know that the long tube headers will only work with a manual transmission.

Do you have to purchase the off-road X-pipe in order to use this efficiently? I am planning on buying these for my 2000 GT convertible but was wondering if I have to buy the off-road X-pipe in order to get best results or if it will be fine either way?

    • With the stock exchaust you have now, you will have HP gains. But if your looking for the most, then yes the off road X pipe will give you that extra you want.

      Nice Sound

Installed on my 98 GT with BBK shorty headers and BBK off road H. Sounds good, def on the loud side. The hangers on the tips ARE NOT correct for the 98. We had to make our own hangers. Other than that, happy with the exhaust so far. Been on for 7 days now.

      pypes violator

had a flowmaster before was on for 10 years plus really nice sound could not remember the model # had a muffler go bad just enough rust wanted to replace it all so i read up on this model with a "rude sound " its ok alot less quiet throaty than before sitting at idle barely here it running to me it is not to much louder than factory exhaust does not sound bad when on the gas better than factory but over all would say it is ok not sure if i am going to replace it or not its not horrible but was not what i was expecting to hear from it if going from factory or a fairly quiet exhaust to this one would be ok

      Loud at Take Off

I purchased these pipes in November and had them professionally installed. Good thing I did b/c it took over 5 hours for 2 mechanics to do the job. It doesnt sound that great at idle, but once you get on the gas the sound is strong. Dont attempt to install yourself!!!

      97 gt violator cats

This catback system has definitely waken up my ride. Supporting it, i have shorty bbk headers, and bbk h-pipes. Its sounds incredible!! Although louder than i wanted. One thing i was worried about, was loosing that distinctive mustang know the one..."oh yea, that was a mustang!" I saw my brother on the other side of the median heading the opposite direction. I stomped on it as he passed. 2 mins later in sent me a "lol wow". When i saw him later he said, he heard it and was like "What Was That"!. Looked through his window and saw my car. Thats when he sent me the txt. So yeah, im very happy with this purchase. Yet again, thank you AmericanMuscle.

      Violator catback

When I order this system I had read and listened to many review online and YouTube videos. The sound is ok but what I wasn't happy about was the quality and manufacturing of the exhaust. I wouldn't recommend this system to anyone

      Amazing Exhuast!

The install part wasn't too bad it took us about 2 hours and it was fun doing it. When we took the car off the jack stands and fired it up, I was instantly satisfied with the product! The nuts and washers the set comes with are awful so go to lowes and get your own or use the factory nut. 10/10

      Great Sound

I installed this at my friends shop so I had it easy. I noticed some said the bend was not right for the 04 but mine fit fine might be a cases by case or ...As fas as install it was easy straight forward every thing you needed was there. Install time was no more than expected. I like the sound at an Idle it sounds normal to a little beefer kinda like a sleeper though when you hit the throttle all the sound you want is there for sure. I would recommend it Gives a bit of a surprise to people when they pull up next to you and they dont here much

      Nice sound

Okay well the only BAD thing I ran in to was at the end, the passenger side pipe that goes over the rear axle was incorrectly bent. So it hangs dramatically lower then the driver side. So Lowe it scraps on speed bumps, but at the end of the day it works out let me tell you why. With those pipes that go over the axle you don't get the 100% raspy sound you paid for. Soo I took the pipes off and just left the mufflers and I think it sounds perfect. Soo FYI PRE-bent parts might not always fit you're car. 7 out of 10

      Great Sound

The sound is exactly what I was looking for (using with PYPES off road X pipe). Appears to have added some HP. I have noticed an improvement in performance at higher RPMs. Kit was simple to install. I was able to get the stock exhaust out with out in one piece without cutting it by using a hoist, disconnecting the shocks and lowering the rear axle, did not remove rear tires.

      Not to Loud

I just put this on my 04 GT with the stock H pipe it is a little bit louder than stock but not much it is just what I wanted. I did it myself on a hoist but it would have been easier with help holding parts in place and getting everything lined up.

      big improvement over stock

Installed in less then 3 hours. Fit nicely and sounds great. Not overly loud but enough to give the car the right sound but not enough to be annoying while driving on long trips. Hardest part of install was removing old pipes (rusted bolts) install was a breeze. would highly recommend

      Pypes Violater Cat Back Exhaust

Everything went well and the fit was perfect. My only problem was getting the pipes to get over the rear axles. I removed the shocks from the bottom and then all went in easy. The directions said to remove the rear wheels for easier installation, but I only removed the passangers side wheel, on the drivers side I didn;t, just the shocks. Unscrewing the nuts at the bottom of the shocks allowed the rear axel to drop enough to get the pipes over it.

put the violator cat back on my 00 GT with the stock h-pipe and stock headers. at idle, it isn't any louder than stock, at WOT it sounds great. the only negative i have on this is that the tips they give you don't necessarily tighten real good. both sides have adjustment screws (bolts) and are tightened so much they can't get any tighter and the tips still slip back and forth and makes a rattle so I'm taking the car to an exhaust shop to have them tack weld them on. Other than that, I like this system. At cruise, I hardly notice any noise or drone ulike the Flows I used to have.

      awsome product

Even though this product was designed for two more cylinders than my mustang(v6), it still gives it a nice "growl". Its not deep or anything..... but its nice.... like i said, I have a v6 so I dont really expect it to be really deep.
