Protects Your Investment. When replacing your clutch you have two options: resurfacing your flywheel, or getting a new flywheel. Most times, getting a new flywheel is better than resurfacing, as the flywheel will dictate how well your clutch will perform, as well as how long it will last.

What is the weight difference between this and your stock flywheel in a 1998 cobra


  • The stock 1998 Cobra flywheel will weigh about 23lbs whereas the Spec Billet Aluminum Flywheel - 8 Bolt (96-04 Cobra, Mach 1; 99-Mid 01 GT) is 14lbs.

    Good price and flywheel

    Installed with a SPEC Stage 3 clutch, firewall adjuster and quadrant on a 2004 Cobra. After the 500 mile break in period, the clutch grips well. Weight between the SPEC aluminum flywheel and stock cobra flywheel (also aluminum) is about the same, but stock does not have a REPLACEABLE steel insert. Very little in the way of directions for the two SPEC products I purchased. Overall, it has worked well with the SPEC clutch, and I bought it for the replaceable insert. It would be a more dramatic change on the revs of the GTs as they have steel flywheels, it feels stock on the cobras.

    Rev Happy!

    A good investment

    My 98 cobra definatly revs faster since the install the biggest differance I can tell is how much smoother the engine feels at 5k and above I like it but it is a little on the expensive side for the amount of gain

    Spec Billet Aluminum Flywheel

    Some adjustment of driving technique required vs stock flywheel. Takes all of one time releasing the clutch to figure out. Give it a little more rpm and no issues. I have a daily driver. No issues with having an aluminum flywheel. Only warning would be stop and go traffic where you frequently only move a couple feet then stop. The extra rpm to get the car moving while not hard to do, it gives the impression of constantly racing the engine. Still in clutch break-in period. However I can feel a difference in acceleration in 5th. Much easier from 1000 rpm on up.

    Loose Weight

    I wanted to take out the old to see what all I truly needed. My fly wheel needed turned, my schedule makes it impossible to get to the closest shop to drop off and then pick up. Thats the line I used with my wife. American Muscle came through, I recieved the new parts for the next week end. Thanks American Muscle. Thats free shipping by the way. I added the Spec 2 clutch. I have the fire wall adjuster, the feel of the new clutch is great, pedal effort is easier than stock. The iron fly wheel that came off just about cracked the floor, the Spec I put on with one hand. Serious weight loose, I would have weighed the two, but needed to keep peace in the house with the boss. I owe her a new carbage disposal. Make sure you put the dowels in from the back of the fly wheel with a punch. Great product, engine revs faster. The ablitiy to change the friction plate will make next time great, just order from American Muscle.

    Great product, and seems to be a quality piece, only draw back is the flywheel did not come with the dowel pins for the pressure plate, would be nice to have new ones but oh well.

    Spec alum flywheel

    Goes great with the spec stage 3 clutch. Goes through the gears with no hesitation. Pedal feels the same but with a clutch adjuster installed, you can have it engaging by barely pushing the clutch pedal down.

    Spec Billet Aluminum Flywheel

    Awesome product and well worth the money. It makes the power feel like it comes on a lot smoother. This was one of the best mods that I have done to the drivetrain. I highly recommend this to anyone that is looking to change their clutch and flywheel. I cant believe how much smoother it is. I took my car out on a 100 mile road trip through some twisties today and I couldnt believe how much better the car felt.

    Good Part

    Its a Flywheel how do you Review a Flywheel Well lets say if the part is manufactured Properly and no problems from shipping Damage you should have a nice part when you take it out the Box.Install with No Trouble and works properly yes its a good part.

    Just Awesome

    If you are going to replace your flywheel then you have to choose this one. It made such a huge improvement i am in no way unhappy with this product.
