Unlike turbocharged applications, centrifugal superchargers are mechanically driven by the rotation of the crankshaft, transferred through a drive belt. As a result, drastic power losses occur when the drive belt slips or wears prematurely. Swap Pulleys To Alter Boost Output. Supercharger drive pulleys are an essential component to your supercharger system, applying the force supplied by the crankshaft to the supercharger impeller. Depending on the speed of the impeller, more or less boost is generated as the impeller spins speed increases. Changing the size of the pulley also causes a power shift, with a smaller pulley spinning the impeller quicker at a specified engine speed versus a larger pulley spinning at the same rate, creating more boost and, thus, more power. Swapping your supercharger drive pulley with a larger or smaller size is a simple way to adjust the amount of boost that your supercharger produces and how quickly that boost is applied.
