    Review & Install Video

I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m going to be taking a closer look at Magnaflow’s Axle-Back Exhaust system for the ’05-’09 Mustang GT. The first thing I notice when taking a closer look at the Magnaflow is the overall quality of construction. Stainless steel throughout, 2 ½ inch mandrel bent tubing, quality welds, and a bright polished finish from the muffler all the way down to those 4 inch dual polished tips. I will tell you that this system is very mild in terms of sound, it’s just slightly more aggressive than stock with a throatier exhaust note at idle and when you’re on the throttle. It’s still going to flow a little bit more than your factory exhaust, but if being loud is your number one priority, then you might want to check out a different kit from either Pypes or Flowmaster. Installing this kit is very straightforward and should take you no more than an hour using some standard hand tools. Now let’s hear how Magnaflow’s Axle-Back Exhaust System sounds compared to your factory exhaust.

Throaty Sound Profile. Looking for a more aggressive sound for your S197 Mustang, but don't want to buy an entire catback system? Then the Magnaflow Street Axle-Back System is perfect for you. The Magnaflow Street Axle-Back features two straight-through mufflers that will add a throaty exhaust note to your Pony for that classic muscle car sound at the fraction of the cost of a full catback system.

Quality Magnaflow Construction. Constructed from high quality 2.5" mandrel bent stainless steel tubing, this Magnaflow Street Axle-Back Exhaust system features two aggressive sounding Street Series mufflers and two brightly polished 4" stainless steel tips for great muscle car styling.

Application. Made to be a direct bolt on, this Magnaflow Street Axle-Back Exhaust will bolt straight up without any modifications required on the 2005 to 2009 GT, Bullitt and Shelby GT500 Mustangs for a deeper, throaty sound.

Note: Coupon codes cannot be applied to this product.

Technical Note: Americanmuscle recommends adding the 2005+ Mustang 304 Stainless Steel Exhaust Hanger Kit from the drop down option above, to provide more strength, stability and a cleaner installed appearance. If you have a 2007 Mustang you may need the kit for correct installation.

difference in loudness between Flowmaster and Magnas flow?

    • Flowmaster has a few different axle-back exhausts for the 2005-2009 GT's and GT500's, and the sound changes by the muffler type. We would recommend listening to a few sound clips of the Flowmaster you were interested in. If you were looking at a particular Flowmaster exhaust, we would be more than happy to assist you!

    • The Magnaflow Street Axle-Back Exhaust is designed to use on 2005-2009 GT'sand GT500's. This may fit on a 98 Cobra when modified, however, since this would require custom alterations, we would not be able to confirm the products fitment.

I just did some mods to my 2005 gt 4.6 ford racing cams ford racing intake and ford 62mm tb pypes long tube headers and pypes x off road with no cats pypes mufflers this thing is loud I like it but cops don't will these mufflers quite down my beast with out losing hp

    • The Magnaflow Street Axle-Back Exhaust will defiantly quiet down your exhaust compared to the Pypes Axle Back. You should not notice any loss in performance.

Will these fit a pypes shorty o/r x pipe

    • Sure, an axle-back does not directly bolt to the mid-pipe but to the flow tubes instead. You could install any 05-09 GT axle-back of your choice and have no problems!

      Did not work for me

I ordered kit 15882 for the 2007 mustang gt. The hangars are in a completely different location and if I were to get the proper fit I would have to bend the hangars over 6 inches. If they sent the wrong ones bad for magnaflow. What a waste of my time.

      Musical Exhaust

I recently picked up an 05 mustang GT and one of the few things they had added were these magnaflow mufflers, I could tell because when I stuck my head under the car it says clear as day "magna flow". Convenient enough, well this baby purrs at lower rpm and idle and I definitely turn some heads when I open the throttle a little bit on city streets. The headers and h-pipe are stock, so I just placed an order for a CandL street cold air intake w/ 83 MM maf (tune required since i already have an x4 tuner) and a pypes cut and clamp x pipe (both are california smog compliant but advertisement good hp and torque gains) can't wait to add my reviews for those products and see how the whole setup goes once i get shorty headers later this year.

      Good Sound with other mods

I got the cat back magnaflows paired with the pypes longtube headers and off-road H pipe. I hated the catback at first because it sounded the same as stock. With the headers and h pipe these things sound amazing. Very glad I kept them on my car, if you’re looking for good noise with just an axle back or catback do not get these. If you have other mods like headers and a catless midpipe I would definitely recommend these.

      Perfect Sound

I have a 2006 Mustang GT with Kenne Bell supercharger, JBA long tube headers and the JBA High Flow H-Pipe with cats. I was previously running a Flowmaster axle-back, Force II with 60 series mufflers. The sound was awesome, but it was way too loud even for normal driving. I took a chance on the Magnaflow axle-back after reading some mixed reviews. I was looking to quiet down the car without sounding too stock. The sound of the Magnaflow's in conjunction with my other mods is perfect. I am quiet at idle and only a nice mellow exhaust note with normal acceleration. When I open up the throttle fully, I get a really nice deep exhaust note that is neither raspy or weak sounding. It's just about perfect in my opinion, loud enough to let everyone know there is something more under the hood. The fit of the system was somewhat lacking. The shop that did the install had a great tech who wasn't satisfied with just bolting it up and handing it back over. the driver's side tip was shifted to the left and touching the bumper. The passenger side was centered but contacting the bumper at the top. We wound up needing to heat the hangers and bent them until they were each centered on the bumper openings. Not a huge deal, but when you are spending $500 on an axle-back, you expect the fit to be almost perfect. Overall, I think the sound it a 5 out of 5, fit was a 3 out of 5. Needless to say, I'm satisfied overall with the purchase.

      axle back --Magna Flow

Removed supposed 'Stainless Steel' Magnaflows after one year as they were showing a rust through...Magna Flows went on very easily...actually fit more in line with the cut outs for the tips...the air flow was absolutely unmistakeable...the car runs freer with less back pressure on down shifts...Should have listened to Foose and bought MF to begin with...worth the extra coin !!

      Nice Exhaust Note

If you are interested in pure noise, this is not the muffler for you. As noted in the video, these add slightly more of a note than the stock mufflers but are not loud and obnoxious. They sound better than stock at low RPM and do not drone at highway speed. Very nice finish and the tips look great.

Perfect for those who don't want drone!

Alright folks, there are a lot of ups and downs on this product and I thought i'd make it more clear to those who have yet to purchase this product. First of all, if you want a very loud, spitting, popping, obnoxious exhaust system THIS IS NOT FOR YOU! On the other hand, if you want a exhaust that is quiet at idle, quit under normal acceleration, but loud when you rip on it, then this IS FOR YOU! I live in California, and having my pypes offroad x pipe worries me knowing the fact that my car can get towed off the road at any given moment. I bought these because they do just that, quiet, but loud when I want them to. I redline at 7,000rpm and these things spit and pop when I bounce off the rev limiter, but once i bring it down to 1500-2200rpm it's just quiet again, sounds like i just have axlebacks. I bought these because it'd be perfect for me to use with long tube headers, as it's quiet when i want it to, and loud when I want it to. Although these are not worth $617.99 in my opinion there's not much you can do about the price.

as many have said not too much louder then the GTs stock mufflers they ARE louder then V6 stock mufflers and sound nice when converting them to dual. I have had these on my car completely stock and enjoyed them now long tube headers off road xpipe no cats and these mufflers muccchhhh louder and beautiful exhaust note if I had a GT though Id probably go with something different though. check the sound clips!

      Poor fitment, stock sound levels

I bough these mufflers thinking because they were magnaflow that they would look and sound excellent. Well they look the part. The fitment was terrible, as was the low overall tone. These are great for older gentleman who want to cruise around and not make a bunch of noise. These are barely louder then stock and certainly quieter then the GTA mufflers they I replaced them with. I could not get them to line up front to rear worth a darn. A full 3/8th o an inch off in that regard. So much so that when I adjusted them at the H to get better fitment I got it to close to the ABS wiring loom on the driver side and melted it over a 60 mile drive. Overall not impressed not would I recommend. Save your money and get the GTA's!

      Great with complimenting mods.

I have this on my turbo 06 gt with an x pipe. It sounds amazing! It is loud enough to turn heads but not so loud that it bursts eardrums. If I get another car for a daily driver I will definitely go straight pipe axle back but for a daily driver with an X pipe, it does make a great sound. That being said, if you get this be sure to get the x pipe at least. Just my 2 cents.

      VERY QUIET

I have longtubes, catless H pipe, and many other mods. I originally had pypebombs and the car was WAY too loud, so I found these. It was immediately evident how quiet these were. Cruising on the highway, I can't even hear my exhaust unless I go wide open throttle. Don't mistake this review as a bad one, these mufflers are awesome. However know what you're getting, and that is a very quiet, controlled tone. If you're looking (like I was) to shut your stang up after longtubes, these are a great option. I can't imagine how quiet these are without longtubes.... Fitment was subpar as well, driver side sits lower.

      Unique product

If you are looking for a loud sound, This wont be the right product for you. This axle back exhaust system actually makes your Mustang quieter. It brings more deep and throaty sound to INSIDE of your car. It is annoying at first, but after driving about 1000 miles, it will go away. You hear it more in low RPM. why buying this? its good for someone like me who drives his mustang every day and doesn't want his car to be loud all day every day. It'll give you about 5 more HP and you can say you have done your own touch to your Mustang. Do some research before buying an axle back. You should know what you want. I wanted a quite axle back system which I can also gain more HP. This was the right one for me.

This is a great product. The fitment is very good. It gives that nice deep throaty sound you would expect to hear from these vehicles. It is louder than factory but not too loud where it becomes annoying.

I have replaced the mufflers on this car before with other brands and the install time was about 2 hours. The fit and finish of these are as good as I have had. The loudness is somewhat subdued, which is what I was looking for as I was getting a low speed drone with old DynoMax UltraFlow's. I also have the long tube headers on this car and have had to put 24" resonators installed to help quiet this down. These are not the least expensive out there, but a good product for the money.

      quiet, but very nice

while these may much louder than stock, they are DEEP!! a very smooth and deep exhaust note. i did not buy from AM, had these installed on my 06 stang and my 04 crown vic. the vic has LT headers and an O/R X pipe and these are VERY LOUD on it!! still very clean and crisp sound. smooth and mellow. they stay quiet in the cabin, but everyone around WILL know that youve got a little something under the hood. i LOVE these and as soon as my warranty runs out, i look forward to hearing these with my full setup

I replaced my pipe violators on my 2008 GT with Magdnaflows. I have cam and long tube headers. I was a little disapointed at first because of how quiet they were. Seems like after a few weeks they became louder. I like the deep sound. If I want more noise, I can put the violators back on. Thanks AM

      High Class Exhaust Note

Before my 2008 Mustang GT, my toys included a Porsche, a BMW M3, a Jaguar, and my very first toy was a '49 Mercury with free flow exhausts. I grew to really like the sound of a deep rumbling exhaust that increased in intensity with RPM, but that never sounded like the free flow on my '49 Mercury, which was a police magnet. The Magnaflow Axle-Back has a deep low rumble when you start the car, and then it sounds great at 75 if you are next to the car, but not annoying if you are in the car. When you put the pedal down, however, you hear the raw power of the 4.6L engine. Add the cold air intake and you have perfection to my ears. Installation was simple. Appearance of those 4 inch SS pipes out the back is beautiful.
