    Review & Install Video

Hey, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is my brief overview of BBK's long-tube headers available in ceramic or chrome, fitting all 2011 and newer V6 Mustangs. Simply put, long tube headers have been designed to replace your restrictive factory manifolds, which can really choke out the flow of exhaust. A set of long tubes paired with an aftermarket Mid Pipe and exhaust, will make for a very free-flowing exhaust setup, which can give you a nice bump in power, as well as make for one mean-sounding exhaust note. As far as price, these long tubes from BBK are an extremely reasonable option when it comes aftermarket long tubes available for the late model 3.7 L V6. Taking a closer look, these headers feature 1-in-3/4 inch mandrel-bent tubing, quality welds throughout, and laser cut flanges for an OEM-like fit. Now as I mentioned earlier, you do have the option of picking these headers up in a chrome finish, or a ceramic finish. So what are the differences between the two finishes? Well, as you can see, the chrome option are a little brighter initially, but that's going to change as these headers heat-cycle, eventually turning that bright silver into a dark copper color. On the other hand, the ceramic options are going to remain that bright silver color throughout their lifespan. Secondly, that ceramic coating is going to be slightly better at reducing underhood temps, which is very important for performance. Now those added benefits do come with a price as ceramic coated headers are typically more expensive than a chrome or stainless option. Doing the install on any set of long tubes can be a little intense, so it's best to set aside a full day or weekend just to tackle the job. Now, you might not need it, but it's always good to be prepared. Now again, if you don't feel confident enough to tackle this install, then don't hesitate to give your local shop a call, they should be able to help you out. Keep in mind, whenever you run a set of long tubes like these BBKs, you will need to address your Mid Pipe. In this case you will need to run a flanged, and shorty Mid Pipe, just to get everything installed correctly, now BBK recommends their Shorty X-Pipe for the best fitment and performance gains. In the end, what you can expect from using these long tubes from BBK is a considerable bump in both power and sound, all at a very fair price. So be sure to check them out right here at AmericanMuscle.com

More Horsepower and Torque. Improve the performance of your 3.7L Ti-VCT engine with a set of BBK Long Tube Headers. These BBK chrome plated long tube headers will greatly improve your mustangs exhaust flow over the restrictive factory manifolds and increase your Pony's horsepower and torque. Significant increases in rear wheel horsepower have been seen when installed with a matching BBK shorty X pipe.

Quality Construction. BBK Long Tube Exhaust headers are manufactured from 1-3/4" CNC mandrel bent tubing for unrestricted airflow. And feature one piece laser cut 3/8" header flanges for added strength, leak-free performance and OEM fit. These headers are then completed in a bright chrome finish for good looks and a long life.

Recommended Upgrade. To realize the full power potential that these Long Tube Headers have to offer, AmericanMuscle recommends a custom tune with a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU) for proper operation.

Additional Required S197 Upgrades. Installation of these BBK Long Tube Headers on a 2011-2014 S197 V6 Mustang will require the use of a BBK Shorty Mid-Pipe, part# 1461 or 1462 for proper installation.

Additional Required S550 Upgrades. Installation of these BBK Long Tube Headers on a 2015-2017 S550 V6 Mustang will require the use of a BBK Shorty Mid-Pipe, part# 1465 or 14650, and a Front O2 Wire Harness Extension, part #1119, for proper installation.

Application. These BBK Chrome Long Tube Headers are specifically designed to fit the 2011-2017 Mustangs equipped with the 3.7L V6 engine. These Headers are intended for left hand drive applications only.

Technical Notes. Not legal for use on pollution controlled motor vehicles; intended for off road use only.

hp and torque gains? what kind of horse power and torque gains could i see with these?

    • Long tube headers and shorty mid-pipe combos net approximately 20-30 HP. Definitely a great upgrade for both performance and sound!

Can i install these headers without the X-pipe? I bought these headers and the shop told me that they will not work unless they are paired with the x-pipe.

    • No, these Long Tube Headers require the use of the Shorty X-pipe for installation. These headers extend much longer than stock manifolds or shorty headers and therefore will not just bolt up using the stock, standard size mid-pipe.

Has BBK fixed the extender harness/ o2 positioning problem? everyone I ask who has had these headers has had their bbk extender harness get corroded after 2-3 months and they have to replace the o2 sensors. I really want to get these headers, I just don't want to have to deal with all of those problems.

    • We certainly lend BBK any and all issues this product may have had in the past to help prevent these issues from moving forward. However, if you do notice any issues upon installation, please contact American Muscle Customer service and let them know as they would certainly see how they can help if needed.

Is there any damage to and engine after headers are put on without a tune I have a 2012 v6 mustang. I'm planning on installing a pair of long tube headers and the off road x pipe on it. I have read that the engine light will come on if the engine is not tuned. I want to know if any damage will be done if a tune can not be done right away? Thanks

    • DO NOT PURCHASE UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO IMMEDIATELY GET A TUNE WITH IT. Here are a couple reasons I found out the hard way (I have a tuner coming now so I heard it will fix them). 1) My car now has what some call a idling surge. I call it my car not being able to idle right. Usually I idled around 750 rpm before getting these, now it will randomly drop off to 500 or below and sound like going to stall out even though just sitting with clutch in doing nothing. This is because the O2 sensors get moved and the car is reading wrong air-fuel ratio and doesn't know how to fix it. 2) Your car WILL smell like gasoline. ESPECIALLY with the off road x-pipe. I have the catted x-pipe, but after talking with one of the american muscle pros and reading forums, apparently it's normal and even worse without the cat. Same reason as the other issue, the car cannot read O2 right, which messes with air-fuel ratio, leading the car to dump more fuel than needed into the engine and thus out the exhaust. ALSO, your car comes stock with 4 catalytic converters on it... Now, if you get catted mid pipe you have 2, if non catted you have none. Cats burn off extra fuel that is in your exhaust to make it so not ommitting pure gas to air... No cats, no way to burn the extra fuel in your exhaust, thus car smells like exhaust

What exhaust should I buy with this. What exhaust would go best with these headers and a catted x-pipe, I wont something lound but not too loud, I was thinking borla touring or s-type, which one would be the best choice?

    • Any cat back would go great but i personally like the borla touring with it.

      Performance performance performance

Okay so this is my second install on my 14 V6 and I’m not a mechanic or anything but i got it done in about 6 hours with my step dad and 4 jackstands. It’s true when they say taking off the stock manifolds is a pain but with a little WD-40 it got done. Sound wise i was a little thrown off i imagines a way deeper sound but i don’t have aftermarket tail pipes so that will be my next install. I installed this with the shorty x pipe and got a bama tune and I’m running a airaid intake so it definitely has gained some power on the back end. The most impressive part was the power gains because i didn’t expect it to be all that much but once i stepped into it boy did that thing pull. I highly recommend these parts and i encourage you to get down and dirty and install yourself you feel so much more accomplished afterwards!

      Good

Everything was great until it came down to the o2 extensions so the headers are from 11-17 but the o2 they provided was only for 11-14 year models so when I called if I can get a exchange cause I thought maybe it was a mix up but no for 15-17 you have to buy o2 sensors separately

      Loud

I installed these with a off road x pipe and it is loud! But install wasn't to bad. I did it on jack stands and took me about 5 hours. Also get some penetrating apart for the bolts and o2 sensors. They are really tight.

      Worth it?

I installed the headers and catted H pipe by myself with 2 jack stands a socket wrench set and a 13 mm open wrench and a o2 sensor socket which you can rent at Auto zone to take off the sensors from the exhaust manifolds. Installation with hand tools is time consuming so I would plan on a weekend for install. After install and tune along with my CandL cai and bbk throttle body I feel like my car is a vacuum the airflow is incredible. I still have stock mufflers, I can't wait to put on some Borla stinger or touring cat backs because it's still pretty quite. I am still getting a check engine code from one rear o2 sensor and am trouble shooting the problem hopefully I figure it out before it's time to smog the car. I would say this is a good upgrade but the time and money I spent on getting LTs it may be more worth just getting shorty headers for the v6. My buddy has long tubes on his GT and to me they are worth it on a V8 just my opinion. My opinion may change when I put on an after market exhaust system.

      Best Upgrade so Far!!!

This product completely changed my car!! These pipes are insane. It changes the sound of this mustang completely into an aggressive beast. It is one of the loudest v6 mustangs I have ever heard. I would fully recommend this product. Just a suggestion, if you want to tone down the volume, get the catted x-pipes.

      Check Engine Light

I seriously regret purchasing and installing this product! Unfortunately I decided to upgrade my exhaust system, and get the BBK Long Tube Headers w Cated mid pipes. The BBK Long Tube Headers n mid pipes were installed on my 2014 V6 by a local shop for around $500. However it turned the Check Engine Light on I tuned the car for the new setup with my Bama tuner but the light is still on I'm getting two codes: P2251 (O2 sensor Negative Current Control Circuit/Open Bank 1 sensor 1) and P2254 (O2 sensor Negative Current Control Circuit/Open Bank 2 sensor 1) At this point I contacted both BBK and AM but neither of them seems to care much about my issue. Do yourself a favor and check out the Borla long tube headers or go with shorties.

This is a must for all V6 Mustangs

I should have filmed my reaction when I first accelerated with these headers and the off road h pipe installed. My jaw dropped to the floor of my car. Highly recommend. A couple tips for the install. DO IT YOURSELF. It is a super easy install just takes some time and 2 people. If you have any knowledge, a socket set and some wrenches you can do this job on 4 jack stand. My one friend and I did this install in 4 hours with 2 breaks! We are just college kids who know just a little bit about cars. All we did was watched a video about longtube header installation on the GT and that's all we needed to know! save the 400 bucks and spend 4 hours totally worth it if you ask me. Only problems I ran into were putting the headers back on. The bolts on the bottom of the headers took forever to screw in because we had to use a wrench and do quarter turns. I highly recommend a tune as a check engine light will come on but comes off with a tune. Plus your car runs a little funky once you put the headers on but over a couple a days it will adjust itself and be okay. But get a tune. Hope this review helps! PS: I have roush axel backs and oh my god does it sound like an absolute monster. Turns heads everywhere I go.

      Great and easy Install

I'm 16 years old and I was able to install these headers wth some help from my neighbor who is somewhat mechanically inclined , we just used jack stands and and 2 jacks to pick up the car.. the hardest part was taking out the stock mud pipe and stock headers , since the bolts were stuck from he heat , anyways after taking those off , everything came smooth , there was no clearance issues .. when I started it up with just the long tube headers open there was something off the sound that was just amazing , anyways now I'm just waiting for my custom hpipe, I know it will sound great
