    Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is my breakdown of BBK’s long tube headers, available in your choice of either ceramic, or chrome, fitting the 1996-2004 manual Mustang GT. Long tube headers are one of those mods on the long list of basic bolt ons, that aim to make more power than the factory part they’re replacing. In this case, these long tube headers from BBK are going to replace the ultra restrictive cast iron factory manifolds, which are notorious for choking out the flow of exhaust. Taking a closer look at the headers themselves, you’ll see BBK went with mandrel bent 1-5/8” tubing which should definitely help your flow of exhaust. In addition we’re also looking at laser cut flanges, as well as pre-welded bungs for your O2 sensor as well as your EGR. One thing I did want to point out with these headers that I noticed right away, was that BBK included a notch for the steering shaft, to prevent any rubbing or any interference. This is huge because some other header companies do not offer this, and therefore you might run into some fitment issues. Finally BBK gives you the option of picking these long tubes up in a chrome finish, or for a few bucks more you can opt for the ceramic coating. That ceramic coating is going to offer a couple of different benefits, first, performance, ceramic dissipates heat a little better than a stainless header, so it’s going to be slightly better performance wise and it’s going to be slightly better at reducing under hood temperatures, which is always a good thing. In addition that ceramic coating is also going to be better at reducing corrosion, which is only going to increase the longevity of the header itself. The final difference is appearance, both of these header options will offer their own unique look as they age. First up, we have the ceramics, they’re going to stay this bright silver color pretty much their entire life, on the other hand we have the chrome version, which as they heat cycle, tend to turn a dark blue/purple color which some people might like, others may not. Installing any set of long tubes can be a little intense, so if you don’t think you have the mechanical skill, or the tools to get this one done, I’d leave this job in the hands of the professionals. However if you are going to do the install yourself, just leave a full day to get everything bolted up properly, just to be safe. Keep in mind, whenever you install a set of long tubes, you will need to address your Mid Pipe. In this case in order to run these long tubes from BBK, you will need to run a flanged and shorty Mid Pipe. BBK recommends their shorty H-Pipe just for the best fitment and gains. So if you’re looking for a set of long tubes for your 96-04 GT, with the option of going for a ceramic or chrome finish, then be sure to check out these long tubes from BBK right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Increase horsepower and torque. Bolt on extra horsepower and torque that you can feel throughout the entire RPM band with a set of BBK Long Tube Headers. These BBK Chrome Long headers will improve your mustangs exhaust flow increasing your pony's horsepower and torque.

Quality Construction. BBK crafted these Long Tube Headers to last using one piece laser cut 3/8" flanges, free flowing mandrel-bent 1 5/8" CNC mandrel bent tubing and are completed with BBK's show quality bright chrome finish.

Application. These long tube headers are designed to fit the 1996-2004 4.6L Mustangs GT with a manual transmission only. These BBK headers include high-quality mounting hardware, gaskets, and instructions. The BBK long tube headers require a flanged end shorty midpipe in order to function properly. BBK recommends using a BBK shorty H-Pipe or X-Pipe for the best performance gains.

Technical Note. This BBK product is not legal for use in emission restrictive states.

Do i need the O2 extention? I have a 2004 GT but it doesn't state which models need the extension. I just want to be sure so I don't spend the extra money on it and end up not needing it.

    • yes you will need them, I made the same mistake and didn't buy them...

how does this setup effect back pressure, I have straight pipes. With this setup will the back pressure being fully straight piped be dangerous to the life of the motor?

    DarrenF

    • The BBK 1-5/8 in. Chrome Long Tube Headers will not affect back pressure enough to the point where it will be harmful to the engine. If you would like to keep back pressure, you can go with a catted mid pipe instead of an offroad mid-pipe.

Will these fit on stock heads or do you have to have aftermarket performance heads?

    guttaboystang

    • Yes, these long tube bbk headers will fit with stock heads, aftermarket performance heads are not required for use with this.

Do these go with automatic's as well? If not, do you guys carry any headers for automatic transmissions?

    MEXflorida352

    • Unfortunately, the BBK 1-5/8 in. Chrome Long Tube Headers are only designed for manual 96-04 GT Mustangs. The bellhousing and the transmission do not provide enough clearance for the headers.

Will these headers with the Shorty O/R X Pipe fit with the Slp Loudmouth Catback exhast.

    JeremyL

    • The BBK Off-Road X-Pipe is designed to fit with stock catbacks, and the SLP Loudmouth Cat-Back Exhaust is designed to fit with stock mid pipes, so it would be safe to assume they will indeed work together!

      Solid headers for the price

They are nice but need some love to bolt down. 3 bolts on the driver side had to be shortened to fit and the dipstick had to be modified. Very tight fit, but that is how it goes with these cars and long tubes. There is contact somewhere with my pair and need to adjust a little bit more. They sound great though. I feel the motor breathing better when accelerating for sure. All in all they are solid headers, but BBK...give us short bolts with it!!

      Shiny

Looks great right out of the box, the finish is pretty shiny and looks like a well designed header. Even the ports on the flanges are gasket matched for reduced turbulence/increased flow. highly recommend it to complete your mustang's exhaust setup.

Everything is great , just a problem with the hardware. When I was trying to install my xpipe the thread kept stripping the screws so I had to go to my local hardware stor and buy a bit so I can redo the threads and buy new screws

      99-04 GT BBK Headers

I put these headers on with the BBK Off Road X Pipe and it took a little under 13 hours from start to finish. Having it being my first time installing headers and an x pipe it took a little longer than I had hoped. With plenty of foul language and patience, my 2v sounds like a beast. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is looking to turn some heads.

A major pain to put in, but they look and sound awesome. I put catless H pipe on and slp loudmouth 2, but ended up switching to glasspaks, as they were obnoxiously loud. Instant performance gain felt.

      BBK long tube headers

Good product, came with everything you need, however you do need to cut one or two of the header bolts to fit. Surprisingly, at idle the car sounds the same or even a little more quiet but you can hear your stock cam. But when you get on it Wow, it's night and day, these headers make the car scream! Clearance also isn't that bad, my car is lowered on coil overs.

I swap my old bbk shorty headers for these new bbk long tubes and man can you hear and feel the difference they have a great deep throaty sound and a good HP boost. I wish I would have went with the long tubes sooner perfect headers for a mustang.

      longtubes long day

First I got BBK shortys I found the shortys were harder to install do to the bends in the headers seem to cover the bolt holes. I returned them for the longtubes and had no problems installing them fit great sounds awesome performance was also great! I did the install in about 3 hours mind you I already had the stock manifolds off if you don't know your way around your car pay someone and expect your car to be gone for about 7-8 hours

Good Quality! Bang for your Buck

Product got to me very quickly. Less than a week. Everything in the box ready to go. I decided to take the challenge and throw them in myself. I'm an automotive student so i did it at my school. Time it took with a lift was about 12 hours or so. The install instructions are pretty poor. One thing that is not mentioned. You will have to pull the dipstick tube. otherwise the new headers on the driver side simply won't go on. When installing the driver side headers make sure to have the dipstick/headers installed together otherwise you'll spend are hard time fishing it back in. Not fun. Overall great product! BBK did well.
