Ask a Question

Is this compatible with the Flowmaster catted H-pipe?

  • The Flowmaster American Thunder Cat-Back Exhaust (94-97 GT, Cobra) will not be a direct bolt on with the Flowmaster Catted H-Pipe (94-95 5.0L), item # 18468, (http://www.americanmuscle.com/flowmaster-catted-hpipe-9495gt.html). The Cat-Back Exhaust features 2.5" 16 gauge tubing while the H-Pipe has a 2.25" 16 gauge tubing. These can be installed together with some modifications and welding which we recommended having done professionally.

I am looking to pair this with a BBK off road H pipe on my 95 Cobra. Are there any known fitment issues? Looks to be pretty easy to install but would like to know if there are any surprises to be made aware of.

  • These Flowmaster American Thunder Cat-Back Exhaust, will bolt up the the BBK Off-Road H-pipe, Item 56069, with out issue. The installation is pretty straight forward, however, if your hardware is older, it could can some dilemmas, but nothing some BP blaster or lubricant could not take care of.

Flowmasters live up to there name. They sound bad@$$. For even more power and sound i would recommend The BBK equal length shorty headers for the 94/95 5.0 with the BBK O/R H-pipe. All those togethor my car sounds bad ass. Its got that dont mess with me low idle tone and screams at high RPM's. Great product easy to install. Will need tow new clamps. The ones they give are cheap and break. But thats no biggy.

    Deep Sound Easy FIT

Easily installed in only a few hours. Fit is as expected. Requires only a little patience when positioning. This product was installed on a six cylinder and connected via an H-pipe adapter. Sound produced is a deep growl. Very nice.

    Gowls but no scream

Overall I'm pleased with the product, but not without a few downsides. This has a nice deep tone at idle, and really growls when I give it some punch. It's not head turning loud so it won't break eardrums (or upset neighbors if I come home late), but it isn't a purring kitten either. I'd call it right down the middle loud. Personally I'd like a bit more rumble volume but that's just my taste. Install wasn't too bad, although after installing the mufflers, getting the pipes in the mufflers really tested my patience. Even though the directions state to tighten the clamps on the mufflers, leave them loose enough to wiggle the pipes in before locking everything down tight. Had to adjust and tighten things down again after a test run around the neighborhood, I didn't leave 3/4 of an inch between the pipes and frame, but after that, she sings like a tiger. Thanks again AM, excellent delivery and product as usual. You guys are the best!!

I ordered this and the pacesetter adapter kit for the v6 and I'm very happy I did! I took these to a shop to have it installed and it took about 2 and a half hrs. Now my v6 has a nice rumble to it ! Thanks American Muscle, you've made me very happy with your fast shipping and excellent customer service!

    Great Exhaust "BUT"

Love the Sound but when installing to my BBK H-pipe the Exhaust was about 3 inch shorter making it where I had to take it to a Exhaust shop to have them rework and add some pipe to make a it fit. over all I give this Exhaust system a 3 Star.

Love them! It took me an afternoon to put in these and BBK cats. I replaced everything from the headers back. Perfect fit for my 95 GT! I did not want an extremely loud system and they sound perfect. Very nice low rumble that turns heads.

I was so surprised how quiet this was I was so upset after reading all the reviews and listining to the sound on you tube . I was praying that there was a break in period but after more research found that to not be true. I had it installed by a pro now I am thinking take it off and sell it but I still loose I am very disappointed and hope to hear from American muscle soon. I have gotten many many things for my 4.6 gt 1997 from your company!

    Flowmaster howling whine

No sure how I managed it but my American Thunders Cat back if done right can actually release a high pitched whining howl, which I love dearly. The howl used to be higher pitched with stock headers, but since I switched to BBK shorties, its even more pronounced and deeper. Further still I upgraded my cylinder heads and it just gets better. By keeping the RPS low I can sneak by, and then turn it loose, hah, its fun to surprise folks. 1994 GT vert, 4.6 ltr w/04 PI heads, BBK/Edelbrock TB, BBK shorty headers, Steeda CAI under hood, BBK catted x-pipe, Flowmaster American (super 44) Thunder exhaust. Over 279 RWHP dyno'd.

Sounds mean with an O/R H

Went from straight pipes after the stock mid pipe to an O/R H pipe and the Flowmaster cat back and it sounds 100 times better. A really mean tone that screams over 3000 rpms but is mellow enough when you stay out of it. This is probably the best setup for your money and the tips sticking out from underneath my black bumper looks awesome. I had a local shop install it all for only $100 and the fit was perfect. I did this and a tune at the same time so the sound difference and the extra pep it has from the mid pipe make it a completely different car. For anyone wondering, cruising at 70 with 3.27 gears with the windows up produces nearly no cabin noise. I've not noticed any drone at all with these mufflers as I've heard others complain of and the tone did get a bit deeper and smoother after the "break in" period.

I recommend this product to anyone that wants that American Muscle sound. It's not loud at idle, but it screams as soon as you hit the gas
