      Hey, guys. I'm Eric with American Muscle. In this video, we're gonna do a review and install of this JLT 3.0 Black Oil Separator Kit for the passenger side mount, compatible for all 2011 and later, 6.4-liter HEMI Challengers without the shaker hood. Now, oil separator kits, also commonly referred to as "catch cans" like this one here from JLT Performance, are really going to appeal to the Challenger owner out there who wants to get the most performance out of their vehicle, and extend the engine life of their car. Now, considering those benefits and the ease of installation, it really makes the decision to purchase this product a no-brainer.Now, real quick, before we can discuss what the actual benefits of this product are, let's talk about some of the basics of your engine's operation. Now, as your engine's running, most of those exhaust gases get routed out your tailpipe. However, in all engines, even healthy ones, some of that exhaust gas makes it past the piston and the piston rings down into your crankcase where they eventually build up. Now, those gases need to be vented to prevent more catastrophic issues with the engine. And that's where the engineers came up with the PCV valve, or Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve, which basically takes those gases and routes them back into your vehicle's intake and they burn them up through the combustion process and send them back out the tailpipe.Now, while the development of the PCV valve has been a positive one for engines in terms of routing those gases out of the crankcase and back through the engine for the combustion, unfortunately, those gases also carry with them small amounts of unburnt fuel and oil. Now, over time, especially in higher performance engines that make higher RPMs and higher compression, there's gonna be a buildup of that oil in your vehicle's intake, and that could lead to several negative issues like knocking, detonation, a loss of power and poor fuel economy.So what this oil separator kit does is we install it in the pathway of the tubing that went from the PCV valve back in the vehicle's intake. And that's gonna allow those gases, the unburned fuel and oil to be routed through this catch can, and it's going to allow the fluids, the gas, and the oil to settle to the bottom, allowing the gases to be re-circulated back into your engine more cleanly. Now, this kit from JLT Performance is precision machined from billet aluminum and coated in a black anodized finish. It's not only very attractive, but it's gonna provide long-lasting service for your vehicle.Now, some of the additional design features I'd like to point out with this kit, if you unscrew the can... First off, it's very easy to do that because they have these textured crosshatches on the bottom of the can that make it very easy to grip. On the inside, when you're shopping for a catch can or oil separator like this, you want to make sure that you get a mesh screen in there, something that's going to catch particulate matter and prevent it from going back into your engine, that's a nice feature. Another nice feature of this is this rubber O-ring across the top of the threads here that, when you screw your can back on, it's gonna create a nice tight seal. Now, a couple of things I do want to point out about this kit, guys, is that it is not carb compliant, meaning it will not pass California emissions inspections, so we do not offer it for sale in California. The other thing I'd like to point out is it's not compatible with Challengers that are equipped with the shaker hood.Now, backed by a one-year warranty and coming in right around $170, this kit from JLT Performance is a must-have for any serious enthusiast. And as you're going to see her in about a minute, this is a very easy installation. I'm giving it a very basic one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. You're not going to need any special tools, knowledge, or skills to get this job done, and you should have no problem getting it done in around 15 to 30 minutes. So instead of me talking further, let's get this kit installed on this bad-ass 392 Scat Pack. Okay, guys, the tools we're going to use for this installation are a three-eighths socket wrench, 15-millimeter deep ball socket, a Phillips head screwdriver, and in the event that you have some difficulty removing the factory PVC pipe from the fitting, you might wanna have a set of pliers handy.Okay, so the first step of this installation is going to be removing this section of tubing that goes from the PCV valve back to the intake. Now, the whole point of this product is to catch the oil that comes through that pipe. So, when we disconnect that you might get a little bit of oil drippage, and as you can see, this is an exceptionally clean 392 Challenger, and we'll wanna keep it that way. So I'm going to grab a clean shop towel and simply run it underneath this pipe. And what we're gonna do is just by hand, we should be able to pull these apart. You may need the assistance of some pliers on this, but I'm gonna try it first by hand. And when we disconnect each end, this towel here will hopefully catch any oil drippage that might come out. Once we have it disconnected, I'm going to wrap it up and we'll carry it away, keep everything nice and clean.All right, and just like I did up here at the top, we're going to wiggle this out of the fitting. And we're just removing this tube that I have my left hand on, this elbow joint here, we're going to leave intact and that's gonna connect to our oil separator kit. I'm just gonna turn it around like this, the proper orientation. As you can see, there's a little bit of oil on the ends there, nothing coming out of our pipe up here, so I'm going to wrap this up and carried away nice and clean.All right, guys, first step here, we're gonna remove this stud which is attached to this bolt using a 15-millimeter deep well socket. And we're gonna use this same piece of hardware, take your bracket, make sure it's oriented with the logo, you can read it from the front and that it bends towards the intake and just reinsert the stud that we just removed. And we'll go ahead and tighten it down. All right, now, go ahead and grab the catch can assembly, guys, and give this one last twist, make sure it's on there nice and tight, and bring it down here and line it up, plug in this and that'll just click nicely into place. And then grab the two Phillips head screws that are included in your kit. They're gonna go right here, the top where the lid of the oil separator can is threaded. So, these go right in.All right, just finish up tightening up your screws. And then plug that in this top fitting up here. It'll click into place nicely and you're all done. All right, that does it for this review and installation of the JLT Performance 3.0 black oil separator kit, passenger side mount for all 2011 and later Dodge Challengers with the 6.4 liter HEMI, without the shaker hood.
