Review & Installation Video

What's up everybody? Justin with americanmuscle.com. Welcome to my quick breakdown of the Roush axle-back exhaust system available for your 2015 Coyote powered GT. As you guys all just heard, the 2015 Roush axle-back definitely lives up to the claim of being one of the more aggressive axle-back systems available for your new GT. The same was true with the '11 to '14 S197 axle-back, and that same super aggressive tone has definitely found its way over to the new S550 kit. That super angry or aggressive tone does come courtesy of Roush's unique open chambered or hollow chambered mufflers as they call them. These things are unique in the fact that they don't use a traditional fiberglass packing material. This allows for that really aggressive tone you guys heard earlier. At the same time, it's going to keep any interior noise or drone to an absolute minimum. In addition, these mufflers are a straight through design, meaning any performance you might see, while minimal typically here with an axle-back, will definitely be a little bit more than what you might see with a traditional chambered muffler. All right, guys, going over the build quality a little bit here. You will notice what little piping there is has all been mandrel-bent two and a half inches in diameter. The entire system has been constructed from quality 304 grade stainless steel. This does include the four inch slash cut tips. These tips are cool because they do feature Roush's unique new chrome flashing process which they say will help reduce any discoloration over the years. By now, guys, you should know that with any 2015 axle-back install there is some cutting required. However, like I tell you in some previous videos, as long as you take your time and follow some basic guidelines you should be good to go. These guidelines do include making sure you have a nice fresh Sawzall blade on hand, make sure you wear your eye protection of course, and last but not least measure twice and cut once. Thankfully, Roush does include some really nice detailed instructions with this kit on where to cut. As long as you take your time, follow the instructions, you can expect to spend about two hours from start to finish getting this thing bolted up. If you guys are looking for one of the most aggressive axle-back systems from one of the most recognizable names in the Mustang world then be sure to check out the Roush axle-back for your Coyote powered GT right here at americanmuscle.com.

Aggressive Muscle Car Sound. Let your 5.0L Coyote engine howl with a Roush Axle-Back Exhaust. This innovative new Roush exhaust system features a hollow chambered muffler that results in increased air flow and a unique sound, with no in-cabin "boom" normally found with performance exhaust at cruising speeds.

Quality Roush Construction. Constructed from mandrel bent 304 stainless steel for a durable long life, the Roush axle-back exhaust system features two unique open chambered mufflers with 304 stainless steel 4" tips. The 4" tips are finished with a new chrome flashing process that is resistant to discoloration due to exhaust heat.

Cut & Clamp Installation. The installation of this Axle-Back Exhaust requires cutting and removing the factory muffler assemblies and clamping the new muffler assemblies in place. Clamps and instructions are provided.

Application. This Roush Performance Axle-Back Exhaust System is designed to fit the all 2015-2017 GT Mustangs, including Fastback and Convertible models, for both great looks and great sound.

I have an 11 month old son, will this be too loud for him in the back seat? I also have a 2006 with a bunch of work done to it and it is too loud for him to ride in so when my wife and I go to shows I need this to be noticeable louder but yet not too loud for my son. Thanks.

ErbStalk

  • Hello! Unfortunately loudness is totally subjective to each person, as far as exhaust systems go, an axleback is the more quiet option. However, Roush is one of the louder axleback exhaust systems. I would recommend trying to find someone local with an axleback setup on their mustang, so you can hear it in person to decide.

I will have this set for my mustang gt 10/12/17,my question is what is in the inside of these mufflers.

Killbuzz

  • The mufflers in the Roush Axle-Back Exhaust will contain Roush's proprietary sound deadening materials to enhance the exhaust note of your Mustang.

Will this exhaust pair nicely with the Mishimoto H-pipe? I see all of the pairings going with an X pipe, but I really want that low pitched muscle rumble.

AnthonyH

  • This Roush Axle-Back Exhaust does not directly attach to the Mishimoto H-Pipe, item 393882. There will still be stock portion of the exhaust that will be re-used that attaches the h-pipe to this axle-back. As long as that portion of exhaust is the same, the axle-back will fit flawlessly with that H-pipe. http://www.americanmuscle.com/mishimoto-hpipe-1517gt.html

I have 2 3 years warranty for my Mustang GT. Is there any warranty issue if I would modify the original exhaust system?

  • The Magnusson Moss Warranty Act: US Code – Title 15, Chapter 50, Sections 2301-2312, was created to protect consumer warranties. Any drone heard with this Axle-Back and an X-Pipe?

  • There will not be a drone with this and an X-pipe whether it is a shorty X-pipe fit with long tube headers or a stock length X-pipe.

I kept the stock resonator. Added the Roush axle back and the car came to life! My neighbors won't complain and and there's a smile on my face every time I hear it rumble, pop, and crackle! If one day I decided I needed it a little louder or add a supercharger I can always add an X pipe or H pipe! Definitely the best first mod!

    The perfect sound

Having had installed a Roush Cat-back system in my previous Mustang, I found it had a very loud cabin noise at cruising speed. (60KPH). It sounded great, but sometimes it was a bit much. Wanting that sound again but a tad quieter on my new 2017 Mustang GT manual 5.0, but a bit quieter, I went for the Roush Axle-Back Exhaust. Absolutely perfect. She grumbles contentedly in idle, and growls through each gear change, awarding the occasion pop sound. Best exhaust ever. I will keep stock resonator because I have the ideal daily driver/ weekend toy sound now. * - My Stang is a 2017 but the selector on this page only goes as high as 2016.

    Roush Axle-Backs

This is my first aftermarket exhaust on any vehicle I've owned. I did the installation myself and it was very fulfilling. Took about an hour start to finish. The sound in Sport mode is very satisfying! Nice deep tone under acceleration will a little crackle when you let off of the peddle. No drone, however, the sound is noticeable at 2K RPMs. Just have to turn up the radio a bit. This is the way the Mustang should sound strait from Ford.

    Insult from the neighbor!

My 2015 Mustang GT is my fifth Mustang GT and had aftermarket exhausts installed on them. I usually went with Ford Racing Products axlebacks but I was not too thrilled with the ones Ford had made for the 2015 so enter the Roush. I read and listened to everything I could on axlebacks for the 2015 and the Roush seem to offer the best bang for the buck. When a neighbor asked if my new Mustang was the four cylinder, I knew it was time to ditch the factory exhaust. I ordered the Roush and installed it in less than an hour once it arrived (and great delivery from AM again!). This was the easiest axleback I have ever installed, and if you follow the instructions on the Roush website, install is easy, just make sure you take your time to measure where to cut. Once the factory mufflers were off, install was a breeze! My neighbor no longer feels that my new GT has anything in it other than a V8 and an "angry"sounding one at that (at least when I fire it up). No drone on the road, and an excellent sound when one hits the WOT! Well done Roush!

    Now it's a Mustang!

Super easy to install. Total time was just over an hour. The only tools needed were a floor jack, jack stands, ratchet and socket, file and sawzall. The Coyote roars at high RPMS and sounds like it should have from the factory. I kept the resonators and have no drone whatsoever! First mod and what a difference this exhaust makes! Do it, you won't regret it!

    Big nasty!

AM Please read! The Good, The exhaust price, you can't beat it for the performance, sound and look. It's really a minimal exhaust that uses your existing pipe and it hooks right up. Takes about 45 minutes to install with the right tools and that's not even pushing it. I've also noticed a little gain in power as their mufflers are more free flowing than stock. Can't wait to hook up my bama tuner!!!! The nasty, The exhaust sounds siiiiiiick, i love the raspy rumble that these babies put out. It's not too loud while driving normally but it really lets it out when you punch the gas! There's also NO DRONE! I couldn't think of a better sound. I'm very happy. Fit n Finish (ATTENTION AM) This is my only complaint. Everything hooks right up. It's a quick install with minimal cutting. However, the passenger side hangs about 1.5 inches lower than the drivers side. This should be brought to Roush's attention. Even the installer said they've seen it with every Roush exhaust they've put on the 15/16 stangs. Email me for pictures if you want them. Thanks! Overall im very happy with this purchase, best $500 I've spent on this car!

This is how a mustang should sound

Owned a Roush RS3 before this GT California Special. I could not wait to put the Roush axle backs on. Just as I thought they sound perfect like a mustang should from the factory. I have the auto paddle shift and they sound sweet.

    THAT SOUND!

Easy install. Did it right off the ground with some jack stands. Honestly took about 30 minutes, could've been less but I was busy admiring those chrome tips. Sounds great! Aggressive when you step on it. When I'm switching gears[manual trans] from 1st to 2nd sometimes 3rd I'll get a neat little pop/cracking sound as well when I let off the throttle. Looking clean and stock yet breaking some necks with the axle back exhaust.

    2015 GT Roush axel back

This was done at a Ford performance shop called "Extreme performance" the install was straight forward. I ask for no welding because the slag and melted aluminum will interrupt the exhaust flow to the point of barley noticeable performance. I also had a resonator delete x-pipe installed, also a Airaid cold air intake and BAMA race tune. After all this and running Shell 93 octane and NOS nitro methane boost, along with a can of barley legal jet fuel boost. And some 104 octane boost. My automatic 5.0 Mustang went from stock 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, After the said parts install she went 4.8 0-60 and spinning in first second and part way through third. My stang has factory 3.55 limited slip rear end. Stock tires but I remember the concrete bridge just built and opened. Late at night no traffic at all. I stopped and set my gear selector to sport set the steering wheel to sport and turned off the traction control. I was on the bridge, Then brought my drag race Christmas tree. Had my hand on the paddle shifters revved up to 1200 rpm with my foot on the brake and gas I clicked the tree to start down just as it hit the last yellow I floored it and when the tack came up to 5200 rpm I clicked to paddle shifter the time it took to shift the rpm's were at 6600 rpm same thing going to third 5200 click and it shifted at 6700 rpm. My 0-60 time was 4.3 seconds my 0-30 was 1.90 it still spun but not near as bad as before. That was the best my car ever has run. First time I ever got some kind of traction. The Roush exhaust was my last mod and it was what my car needed to uncork the HP that was waiting, and my BAMA race tune is all I'll ever need. 480 HP at least after all the mods. Best sounding best power out of all the other performance mufflers out there. OH! Less I forget, there is no drawn at any speed with this kit from Roush performance. You get what you pay for is a very real saying to say the least. Get yourself a set you will not be disappointed ever I promise.

    Simply Amazing

This exhaust system is the best sounding exhaust system for the 2015-2017 mustang GT's next to the corsa X-treme catback. I got this axle back installed at a local shop, and when they started it up, I was in pure bliss. It is very very loud and does not get quieter over time. Anything above 3k RPM and this exhaust screams, anything under and barely louder than stock. Plan on throwing on a Ford Racing X-pipe to make this thing 3 times as loud.

    Honest Review From Both Sides

Great axle back system by itself if you want it to SCREAM when you get on it (WOT) and be suttle when off the throttle. Great balance, you can have a conversation when not on it, but hear the roar when you want too. That being said, if you are alittle more like me that likes cars that have noticeable exhaust upgrades at all times (I.e not on throttle) I would recommend you get an x pipe. Like I said it's a great system that is LOUD during WOT, but was too suttle during normal driving. I put the Roush X pipe on it a month after getting the axlebacks and OMG... it's almost too loud. However if you don't have a lead foot you can get away with a nice growl at ALL TIMES (like I wanted). In the end, if you want it to be LOUD during rather medium-heavy acceleration but still want to talk AND have normal driving, then just do axlebacks. You can't go wrong, it's loud enough. However if your like me that wants that OBVIOUS rumble even during light-normal acceleration get an x pipe, BUT know now you won't be able to floor it without having EVERYONE looking at you. It's up to you. If your on the fence do what I did, just buy the axlebacks first, then add the x pipe later. Can't go wrong. Recommend both products.
