    Review & Installation Video

What's up everybody? Justin with americanmuscle.com. Welcome to my quick breakdown of the Roush axle-back exhaust system available for your 2015 Coyote powered GT. As you guys all just heard, the 2015 Roush axle-back definitely lives up to the claim of being one of the more aggressive axle-back systems available for your new GT. The same was true with the '11 to '14 S197 axle-back, and that same super aggressive tone has definitely found its way over to the new S550 kit. That super angry or aggressive tone does come courtesy of Roush's unique open chambered or hollow chambered mufflers as they call them. These things are unique in the fact that they don't use a traditional fiberglass packing material. This allows for that really aggressive tone you guys heard earlier. At the same time, it's going to keep any interior noise or drone to an absolute minimum. In addition, these mufflers are a straight through design, meaning any performance you might see, while minimal typically here with an axle-back, will definitely be a little bit more than what you might see with a traditional chambered muffler. All right, guys, going over the build quality a little bit here. You will notice what little piping there is has all been mandrel-bent two and a half inches in diameter. The entire system has been constructed from quality 304 grade stainless steel. This does include the four inch slash cut tips. These tips are cool because they do feature Roush's unique new chrome flashing process which they say will help reduce any discoloration over the years. By now, guys, you should know that with any 2015 axle-back install there is some cutting required. However, like I tell you in some previous videos, as long as you take your time and follow some basic guidelines you should be good to go. These guidelines do include making sure you have a nice fresh Sawzall blade on hand, make sure you wear your eye protection of course, and last but not least measure twice and cut once. Thankfully, Roush does include some really nice detailed instructions with this kit on where to cut. As long as you take your time, follow the instructions, you can expect to spend about two hours from start to finish getting this thing bolted up. If you guys are looking for one of the most aggressive axle-back systems from one of the most recognizable names in the Mustang world then be sure to check out the Roush axle-back for your Coyote powered GT right here at americanmuscle.com.

Aggressive Muscle Car Sound. Let your 5.0L Coyote engine howl with a Roush Axle-Back Exhaust. This innovative new Roush exhaust system features a hollow chambered muffler that results in increased air flow and a unique sound, with no in-cabin "boom" normally found with performance exhaust at cruising speeds.

Quality Roush Construction. Constructed from mandrel bent 304 stainless steel for a durable long life, the Roush axle-back exhaust system features two unique open chambered mufflers with 304 stainless steel 4" tips. The 4" tips are finished with a brand new chrome flashing process that is resistant to discoloration due to exhaust heat.

Cut & Clamp Installation. The installation of this Roush Axle-Back Exhaust requires cutting and removing the factory muffler assemblies and clamping the new muffler assemblies in place. Clamps and instructions are provided.

Application. This Roush Performance Axle-Back Exhaust System is designed to fit the all 2015-2017 GT Mustangs, including Fastback and Convertible models, for both great looks and great sound.

Bought a 2017 GT Fastback in December (2017) Will installing these or any aftermarket axle-back mufflers affect my five year warranty from Ford?

        • We suggest reaching out to the dealership to see if the Roush Axle-Back Exhaust will affect the warranty.

I have an 11 month old son, will this be too loud for him in the back seat? I also have a 2006 with a bunch of work done to it and it is too loud for him to ride in so when my wife and I go to shows I need this to be noticeable louder but yet not too loud for my son. Thanks.

        • Hello! Unfortunately loudness is totally subjective to each person, as far as exhaust systems go, an axleback is the more quiet option. However, Roush is one of the louder axleback exhaust systems. I would recommend trying to find someone local with an axleback setup on their mustang, so you can hear it in person to decide.

I will have this set for my mustang gt 10/12/17,my question is what is in the inside of these mufflers.

        • The mufflers in the Roush Axle-Back Exhaust will contain Roush's proprietary sound deadening materials to enhance the exhaust note of your Mustang.

Are these Roush axle back exhaust legal in the state of California?

        • We recommend that you check with your local ordinances to determine if their are any decibel limits, but in terms of emissions you'll have no issues. When it comes to the exhaust, if it's not catalytic converters or headers, you won't have to worry about emissions.

            She really barks now!

So I installed this axle back along with Roush's H pipe and the combination have made my car really bark and growl on a cold start and have a nice mellow (yet menacing) rumble when warm and idling. There is a install and review video available for this mod and the car in that video will give you a real good idea of what your car will sound like with these mufflers and H pipe. My only complaint is you have to download instructions from Roush and in the instructions it does not give you a exact dimension to cut your factory tailpipes (as you will reuse what is between the resonator and the new mufflers) and you have to trim a section off at the rear of the pipe to install the new mufflers. So guesstimate on the long side and just trim off small chunks until you get it just the right length. Other than that the install was fairly straightforward and has given my car a new personality!

Very easy install. I am no mechanic but can use a Sawsall and follow directions. Watched 3 Youtube videos including the AM one. Didn't need to jack up the car. I started the Mustang after and giggled like a little girl. Best money I ever spent on upgrades. Not too loud or obnoxious with the cats still intact. You're gonna love it!

            Great also on convertible

With hood up you can hear the exhaust clearly. As in the video at cruising speed (no acceleration) the exhaust is as stock, BUT hit the gas and that thing gets loud. Also with hood up.

            It won’t disappoint!!!

My ORM exhaust on my 5.0 sounded ok, but I wasn’t satisfied. So I installed an x-pipe. I knew it would be a little more raspy, but I thought it had to sound better than OEM. Therefore, I decided it needs something more. I wanted something with a deeper growl. I searched and searched but couldn’t find anything that totally satisfied me. I didn’t want to settle. Then I came upon the Roush Kit. So I bought and installed it. I’m in love with the deep rumble. It’s the perfect sound. It’s loud enough any muscle car enthusiast, but won’t rattle the neighbors’ windows. It’s a great choice. It won’t disappoint!!!

            Great Exhaust, Highly Recommend

The stock exhaust was too tame for me. I had a 2004 Mach 1 with Flowmasters on it that woke the neighbors (they love me). When I got my '16 GT I missed the rumble of the V8 that made it sound like a muscle car. Did my research and decided on the Roush Axle Back, since you can't put cat-back on a convertible without removing bracing. Simple install, maybe an hour and a half (and that's only because I was messing around with the look to make sure it was perfect) and it turned into a monster! Love the sound, very aggressive when it needs to be (full acceleration), but also tame enough that it doesn't bother my wife when we're just cruising with the top down. Would absolutely recommend!

I love the new sound, aggressive, mean and big different from the previous one on my 2016 GT. I would recommend it to any mustang enthusiast. I had mine install at a local shop and it them less than an hour to do. It's worth the cost.

            Absolutely Perfect

my dad got this installed for his 17 GT in March. Sounds absolutely incredible now. he has had it for about 1000 miles. Louder on cold starts, but nowhere near unbearable. If anything, I would go louder. Absolutely no drone when cruising, quiet on the inside. Can be kept stock quiet if you shift at 2.5k rpms. If you see any of the other reviews stating it's too loud, its not at all. This is hands down one of the best exhausts to choose from. Cheap and has everything you want

            Needed to tone it down.

Ordered the Rousch axle back mufflers after listening to the video provided. They sounded good on the video and the price was more than competitive. After having them installed which was as easy as had been described the sound was definitely not what was displayed on the video. At idle the sound was standard but once under way and shifting through the gears it sounded like a lake boat with open headers. Being what it was that there’s no return on installed items it left me with minimal choices all involving spending more money which really wasn’t in the plans. The solution ended up being visiting my local Midas muffler shop where they removed my H-pipe and installed magna-Flow resonators to tone it down. You know the saying behind every cloud there’s a silver lining well this turned out to be just that. I now have the sound I was looking for but took a costlier and longer process to get it done. Knowing that sound is a personal thing the sound produced with a H-pipe was just to loud for me.
