It's recommended that you add an SR Performance Braided Stainless Steel Hydraulic Clutch Line during your new clutch install. Stock plastic clutch lines can fail during aggressive driving. Stainless steel clutch lines help prevent gear lockout and provide superior clutch pedal feel, even under the toughest conditions.

Technical Note. It's recommended to install a new SPEC flywheel with this replacement clutch for the 2011-2014 Mustang GT. Please view our flywheel page for steel and aluminum flywheel replacements.

Is a new flywheel required? I know that it is recommended but is a new flywheel required or will the clutch fit without it. I only have about 15k on my clutch but looking for something with a little better bite.

  • Yes !!!!! You need to a new flywheel with all spec clutches. The stock one will not work. Their website says "recommended" but that is not true it is 100% required or else it will not fit. The other catch is that spec clutch kits only work with the spec flywheel do not be fooled and make a mistake. Also the v6 spec flywheel is $480 so factor that in your price.

Hi, Is this clutch kit will fit my 2011 mustang gt, that manufactured in April 2010 on the stock flywheel? where I heard that early manufactured 2011 mustang has different clutch/ flywheel than others. thanks.

  • As long as the 2011 mustang GT you have is in fact a 5.0l engine (started In 2011) and not a 4.6l V8 (ended halfway through 2010) this clutch would be a good fit on that car, however, it does require the use of the spec flywheel for this clutch specifically to work.

If installing a spec stage 1 clutch, spec aluminum flywheel, new throwout bearing and pilot bearing; is there additional hardware required (new flywheel bolts, pressure plate bolt, dowels, spacers, etc...) or will they bolt up with stock hardware?

    a good upgrade from stock

the clutch is good, there is a little chatter at very low rpms, but it is probably from purchasing the single mass aluminum flywheel with this product. overall the clutch pedal is slightly heavier which I liked and it seems to do its job well with abuse.

    good clutch

This is a solid clutch. great bite holds the power really well. im very glad i purchased it, only thing is that it doesn't like low rpm. it makes a slight noise on the low end. once in the high end however its perfect.

    Doesn't fit a stock flywheel.

Had to return didn't fit the stock dual mass fly wheel on my V6. The dowel holes where about 1/4 out of position so screw holes didn't line up. Looked heavier duty then the stock clutch disc.

SPEC clutch is better than stock

After 16000 miles of abuse on my 2012 GT clutch it was time to upgrade to a SPEC Clutch. My stock Mustang GT clutch decided to disintegrate after an especially brutal eighth mile run at Lakeland Florida. After barely arriving from the track with a horrific smelling clutch it was time to contact American Muscle. I ordered the SPEC 1 clutch and a steel braded clutch line. The install was fairly straight forward and the quality was evident upon comparison of the stock pressure plate and the SPEC pressure plate. The difference in clutch material is obvious once the two clutches are compared side by side. The SPEC clutch is about twenty five percent wider than the stock one which would prove better at the track once the brake in period is reached. I opted to use the stock flywheel and after having it resurfaced by a local machine shop I noticed that the stock pressure plate has nine flywheel to pressure plate bolt holes while the SPEC pressure plate has six. I modified the pressure plate to accommodate the three additional bolts and all seams fine so far. The clutch is much smother than stock and my notchy transmission is shifting like it should. Thanks American Muscle for another great product.

    Very Comfortable Clutch

This was perfect for someone who is looking for something sporty to use as a daily driver. Feels almost like factory but is a little more stiff but it is just right!
