      Review & Installation Video

Hi I’m Justin with, and I’m going to be breaking down Airaid’s Cold air, and race cold air intake, fitting the 2011 and newer Mustang GT. At first glance it would appear that both of these intakes from Airaid are identical, and that’s because they pretty much are, both intakes feature the same molded high density polyethelene tube and heat shield, the same black couplers, and the same massive SynthaFlow filter, but there is one exception and that would be this removable, modular Venturi insert, that is included with the regular version of the airaid, but is not included with the race version. When installed, the insert reduces the air flow enough so that you can run this intake on your Coyote motor without the need for a performance tune, and still make more power over your stock airbox. With the insert removed however you’re letting more air into the engine and it’s at that point the performance tune becomes required. That makes the Race intake from Airaid an excellent choice for the Mustang owner that already has a tune in place, on the other hand if you’re on a budget and you’re not ready to pull the trigger on a tune just yet, the regular Airaid may be the better option. Install the intake with the included insert, then enjoy some decent gains until you’re ready for a tune. At that point remove the insert, upload your tune, and you’re instantly on your way to making more power. With our baseline runs already out of the way, we want to see just how much power we can expect when using these intakes. Of course since we’re looking for the biggest gains possible, we’re going to run the Airaid without the insert installed and pair it up with one of our custom Bama tunes. Installing the Airaid onto your car is an easy enough task for any backyard mechanic to tackle, in about an hour’s time using basic hand tools. The custom Bama tune is going to do a lot of things for our GT, including tweaking your fuel ratios, optimize our spark timing, and adjust our variable cam timing. The tune should also help our automatic here with increased shift firmness and adjustable shift points. With the Airaid installed and the tune uploaded let’s make another hit here on the Dyno and see what the results are. Our baseline run with our automatic 2011 GT gave us 336 horsepower and 302 ft/lbs of torque, with our Airaid and Bama combination we put down 362 horsepower and 336 ft/lbs of torque making for a peak gain of 33 horsepower over our baseline numbers, and gains of 36 horsepower and 60 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. So that wraps up my review of the cold air intake and race intake from Airaid, whether you already have a tune, or you’re planning on picking one up down the road, Airaid’s two options make it a whole lot easier to pick the ideal option for your setup, and as always they can both be found right here at

5 2011 GT - Greg Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        Quality, and straight forward install.

Took about 45 minutes to install. Instructions are good enough for the average shade tree mechanic. Had some extra parts for different options (automatic trans), but it had plugs for those taps. After tuning, the test drive revealed that it does have the sucking sound of a cold-air intake—not obnoxious, but noticeable.

5 2014 GT - DakotaH Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        Amazing Product

The intake came with everything in it that you need to install it. I like how it came with the sound tube delete, instead of buying that separate. It does require a tune so remember that when you buy it. Overall a great product and a pretty simple install. CALL AIRAID AND GET THE RAIN SHIELD FREE OF CHARGE IF YOU’RE RUNNING THE STOCK HOOD.

Splash sheild is avaiable if needed

I received this as part of my Christmas gift, along with an SCT Tuner, BAMA Tune and FlowMaster Exhaust. And though I absolutely love the result, the 2013 Mustang GT has open hood vents right over the intake filter. This can easily allow in rain water. The paperwork notes, large amounts of water are not good in the intake. I contacted American Muscle, and the Friendly Agent I spoke with said they have never had a problem with this, and have sold many of these units for my car year. This has never appeared to be an issue in their experience. However I was still concerned, so I contacted AirRaid Directly, and they shipped out a free Splash Guard piece, at no cost to me, to address this concern. Please note, I have not had a problem with this, and maybe I never will. But I certainly do have much more Piece of Mind, and thanks to Air Raid for coming through. Also Thanks to AM, for taking my call, and helping out. Just wanted to add this note, for others with the same Mustang year Install was fairly straight forward, and easy enough, and results were terrific!

      • This Airaid Race CAI requires a tune when installing while the standard Airaid CAI has the Modular Venturi Tube inserted and does not require a tune upon install. However, you can always remove the Venturi tube and then tune the intake for optimum performance. Hope this helps to answer your question!

I bought and installed this, but am curious about one aspect. There's the optional delete for the intake sound tube or something. It seemed like there's something regarding the sound being piped to the cabin or such. My question is, what exactly am I deleting, and what are the impacts of doing this?
