    Review & Installation Video

Hi I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m going to be breaking down Airaid’s Cold air, and race cold air intake, fitting the 2011 and newer Mustang GT. At first glance it would appear that both of these intakes from Airaid are identical, and that’s because they pretty much are, both intakes feature the same molded high density polyethelene tube and heat shield, the same black couplers, and the same massive SynthaFlow filter, but there is one exception and that would be this removable, modular Venturi insert, that is included with the regular version of the airaid, but is not included with the race version. When installed, the insert reduces the air flow enough so that you can run this intake on your Coyote motor without the need for a performance tune, and still make more power over your stock airbox. With the insert removed however you’re letting more air into the engine and it’s at that point the performance tune becomes required. That makes the Race intake from Airaid an excellent choice for the Mustang owner that already has a tune in place, on the other hand if you’re on a budget and you’re not ready to pull the trigger on a tune just yet, the regular Airaid may be the better option. Install the intake with the included insert, then enjoy some decent gains until you’re ready for a tune. At that point remove the insert, upload your tune, and you’re instantly on your way to making more power. With our baseline runs already out of the way, we want to see just how much power we can expect when using these intakes. Of course since we’re looking for the biggest gains possible, we’re going to run the Airaid without the insert installed and pair it up with one of our custom Bama tunes. Installing the Airaid onto your car is an easy enough task for any backyard mechanic to tackle, in about an hour’s time using basic hand tools. The custom Bama tune is going to do a lot of things for our GT, including tweaking your fuel ratios, optimize our spark timing, and adjust our variable cam timing. The tune should also help our automatic here with increased shift firmness and adjustable shift points. With the Airaid installed and the tune uploaded let’s make another hit here on the Dyno and see what the results are. Our baseline run with our automatic 2011 GT gave us 336 horsepower and 302 ft/lbs of torque, with our Airaid and Bama combination we put down 362 horsepower and 336 ft/lbs of torque making for a peak gain of 33 horsepower over our baseline numbers, and gains of 36 horsepower and 60 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. So that wraps up my review of the cold air intake and race intake from Airaid, whether you already have a tune, or you’re planning on picking one up down the road, Airaid’s two options make it a whole lot easier to pick the ideal option for your setup, and as always they can both be found right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Increase Horsepower and Torque. Airaid Race Cold Air Intake Systems are computer designed to give your engine maximum air flow, which translates into more horsepower, torque and improved fuel efficiency. Airaid Race intakes are dyno tested and tuned for maximum performance and efficiency.

Superior Filtration. This cold air intake not only improves horsepower, but it also provides superior air filtration, since it includes an Airaid Premium Filter with SynthaFlow® technology. SynthaFlow® is a synthetic nano-fiber material that traps the smallest dirt particles down to 2 microns in size that ordinary cotton-gauze "performance" filters just can't capture. And best of all Airaid Premium Filters are washable and re-usable saving you money.

Required Upgrade. Installation of this Cold Air Intake will require the use of a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU) for operation.

Application. This Airaid Race Cold Air Intake kit is specifically designed for use on the 2011 to 2014 GT Mustangs equipped with the coyote 5.0L 4 valve V8 engine. A computer re-tune is required for operation.

I bought an Airaid CAI for my 2014 V6 mustang and have since upgraded to a 5.0 and am once again looking at CAIs. When I bought the Airaid for the V6, it said it would not fit with a TB spacer installed. Will this CAI fit the 5.0 with a TB spacer installed?

    Steve37214

    • Hello! This Cold Air Intake will fit with a Throttle Body Spacer installed!

I bought this intake but never noticed that tune was required would I be able to just buy the Venturi tube? Or is it okay to run ignored without the tune?

    JoseP

    • The Airaid Race MXP Series Cold Air Intake will require a new tune in order to function properly. You could purchase a venturi tube separately, but depending on the size, a new tune may still be required.

Will this CAI work on a 2012 Boss 302 even though it advertises for a 11-14 GT?

    JeremyS

    • This will only work with the 11-14 GT model Mustangs as the Boss 302 intake manifold is different and will not accept this cold air intake without modification.

Does the race tune that comes with the bama x4 tuner work or does it have to be a different tune?

    Void

    • I have the SCT tuner and it has the check box for the Air Raid. Your Bama should have one as well.

      Noticeable gains

Bought this with the bama rev-x tuner and definitely noticed a big difference in the responsiveness of the throttle. It has more top end power, and much smoother climb through the gears. Car overall just runs better.

      2014 gt automatic

Air raid makes a good product well-constructed Easy to install but as far as the most power for dollar there are much better products maybe it's the combination of the Bama tune but numbers were dramatically lower than expected

      Must have!!

This cold air intake is phenomenal. The visual is stunning as soon as you pop the hood, and the performance great too. For a bolt on upgrade you can't get much better. The install was super easy and the instructions were solid. Just make sure you get a tune for this, I recommend BAMA.

Works well except in the rain!

I installed this on my 14 Gt. the instructions were pretty straight forward, easy install. I used it for a couple of days with out problems, great sound! One morning after a rain storm went to use the car, started but kept stalling and when it did run very rough. I checked the system and found the filter soaked and standing water inside. Dryed it out and it ran perfectly. Apparently this isnt a new issue. You would think for the money they would provide a solution.....Not Impressed with Airaid...

      Air aid cold air intake

Installation wasn't bad overall. Took about 2hrs. The hard part was the MAF which used to be on top in stock bit afraid moved it underneath the intake tube harder to see and screw in.

Just the with the factory air box is better.

I finally decided to buy this after along time of debate. I researched CAI and this one seemed to be a great choice. What I didn't know is... Since I already had some upgrades plus a tune, I would see virtually no gains from the cold air. Even lost a 10th in the 1/8th. I have lost fuel mileage. I thought it was just me being paranoid but I started really driving lightly to try and get good mileage. My avg with very easy HWY driving is 1.6 mpg less with the performance tune And the airaid. The car has a slight hesitation and it has that dead spot that feels like an old 4 barrel car that is incorrectly dialed in. The product itself seems like great quality. Minus the bolt hole that aligns to the fender firewall. The hole is bigger than the factory bolt and the hole is slightly out of alignment. I ask some guys at the drag strip and most of them running tunes use the factory box unless they had a super charger. I'm am just very disappointed in the Airaid. I could've put that cash into my suspension.

      • Response from AmericanMuscle

Even with other mods already done to your Mustang, you should definitely picked up some nice gains with this installation. I would highly recommend giving our Bama team a call at your earliest convenience. They will be able to make any necessary adjustments to your tune files after going over exactly what is happening.

      Great Horse Power gain

The install took about a hour. Combined with the Bama 93 octane Tune I would say this is a great setup. You can feel the power at about 3000 rpm. The only con is that big yellow airaid decal on the intake tube. Hey Airaid how about making a impress of airaid into the air intake tube?

      A little extra boost

This is a good power adder without breaking the bank and having noticeable gains. With the CAI and tune (performance tune preferred for daily driving) the extra power and torque makes sure you are securely planted in your seat.
