Hey. Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, and I'm going to be taking a closer look at the Kooks Performance axle back for the 2011 to '14 Mustang GT. With over 40 years in the exhaust and header game, Kooks has become known as one of the most trusted names in the industry thanks to their top-notch quality, fitment, and performance. And if you guys would like to see more from Kooks as well as other exhaust options for your ride, you're going to want to make sure that you subscribe to our YouTube channel so you can stay up to date with all of the latest products and product overviews for your ride. While you're there feel free to drop us a comment, question, or compliment. We always like to hear from you guys. All right. So that same great craftsmanship that we've all grown to expect from Kooks headers has found its way over here to the performance axle back. Quality of materials and welds are in full effect, including 100% stainless construction throughout. In addition to the polished 304 grade stainless, 4 inch slash cut tips make for a great look out back. This particular axle back features a combination of two and three-quarter and three inch piping, both of which are manual bent. Now guys, we want to help you find the perfect exhaust for your ride so in addition to listening to these sound clips, I suggest you click the link below to head back to the product page if you aren't there already to read up more about the Kooks axle back in addition to real life customer reviews on the site. Since this axle back is a direct bolt on replacement for the '11-'14 Coyote GTs, getting it installed should be a straightforward process taking no more than an hour from start to finish. If you have any questions regarding the Kooks axle back or any other product for that matter, you can always reach out to a Mustang expert here at AmericanMuscle.com and they'd be happy to give you a hand. Now let's hear how the Kooks axle back sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

Stuck between two choices. I like these and the flowmaster outlaws. I like these looks better, but sound is more important to me than looks. The outlaws sound deeper than these just from online searches I mean. Anyone here familiar with both. I like loyd but not obnoxious. But I'm afraid this are more high pitch then deep. Can you help me out please. Thanks

        • Although I've never owned the Outlaws, I have had the Hushpowers, which is considerably quieter. That being said, I personally feel that the Outlaws would be too loud for a daily driver unless that's what you like - LOUD - all the time. The Hushpowers had a sort of deep tone, yet not near as deep in my opinion as the Kooks. I really didn't like the glasspack-type sound that the Hushpowers produced off-idle and above. They were very bubbly sounding to me. Not so with the Kooks system, just real muscle car sound. I believe the Outlaws, being a smaller muffler, would have to be much louder and tend to sound even more glasspack-like - popping, etc. Hope this helps!

Can these be paired with the BBK X-pipe #56112

        • Yes, this axle-back kit will essentially work with any x-pipe setup as there isn't a direct connection between the two. They will connect to the intermediate pipes/over-axle pipes which sit between them.

Are they chambered or straight flow mufflers?

        • The Kooks Performance Axle-Back Exhaust (11-14 GT) will have a straight flow design.

How do these compare to Magnaflow Street Axle Backs??

        • They are both pretty comparable in terms of sound, but quality-wise Kooks takes the cake. However, keep in mind you are comparing good to great, Magnaflow is still solid.

I am interested in purchasing an axel-back exhaust system for my 2014 GT 5.0. I want a deep throat guttural sound when idling and traveling at normal speeds. I don't race it and I don't want any pops or back fires. Is Kooks Performance Axle-Back Exhaust the best system to purchase?

        • Kooks Exhaust systems are designed to give you a deep throaty muscle car tone. This system gives you a terrific mix of agrressiveness and performance.

not super loud at idle but loud enough

these things are awesome! under throttle it comes to life and with no drone. i have cat deletes and over axle pipes and this thing sounds mean. i used to have outlaws and i couldnt here myself think but now you can old a conversation with your passenger and it still gets people looking at you when you drive by.

            All Looks -- no growl

Not the sound I was hoping for. These are super DEEP like a freakin' tuba -- not the old school muscle car deep/rumble I was aiming for. And when you nail the gas they go quiet -- that's the worst part. Could be good for in town driving near the "man" I suppose. Very little drone which is a plus.

            Kooks axleback

Put it on my 2012 boss. Added volume isn't that noticeable if your side pipes are open unless you're wot or in a tunnel for example. Way lighter and look 100x better than stock. Nice fit nice quality.

            Satisfied

Like others searching for mufflers, I spent several hours listening to exhaust sound clips. My main focus was trying to find mufflers that would not be extremely loud. I was trying to decide between the ford sport, ford touring, or kooks axle back. The kooks axle back to me is slightly louder than stock. (exhaust sound is so subjective) It is a lot deeper at start up than stock. The kooks mufflers will growl more if you get the rpm(s) up. (still not loud). At cruise speeds they get quiet as stock. Minimal to no drone. On my vehicle everything is stock except for the mufflers, so I'm sure you can make the mufflers louder if needed. Install took about 45 minutes at the muffler shop. A little pricey for exhaust I'd say that is just a slightly louder than stock, but id rather have them a little too quiet rather than too loud. Overall, I'm satisfied and I like the deep/growl sound. The mufflers are deeper in person than the sound clips. Kooks mufflers keeps the car sounding nice....My 5.0 sounds a lot meaner now....GROWWWWLLLLL

            Exactly what i wanted

so i had the flowmaster outlaws which sounded great at WOT but they droned like nothing I had ever heard, so I ended up getting the Kooks and what a difference, they have a great start up tone and a decent sound with light revs. When driving down the road they have a nice steady rumble that wont make you go deaf but will definitely catch some attention. I would highly recommend these to anyone that wants a nice rumble. Finally WOT could be a little louder but I am happy with my purchase, always room to make them a little bit louder with other exhaust mods or engine.

            Kooks axle back sound growl!

Installed these Kooks axle back on My '13 BOSS 302 because I heard them on another BOSS and they sounded tough. If you want that deep, throaty growl go with these! No drone either and much lighter than stock. Beautifully crafted stainless pieces to boot.

            Great axle back exhaust

Kooks axle back exhaust was a great choice for me and my 2014 Mustang GT. I read a lot of reviews and listened to a lot of sound clips. I didn't want something crazy loud and I didn't want any drone on the highway. The Kooks axle back provided a deep exhaust tone during idle and a noticable difference during acceleration from stock and no drone cruising at highway speeds. I've gotten many compliments on the way they sound. The overall construction was great, almost to pretty to put under the car. Installation was a breeze.

Kooks is where it is at.

I am the person who does hours of research, watches tons of youtube videos and looks at tons of reviews. I also talked to the American Muscle live chat employees to help me as well. I want it all, i want no drone and good sound, less weight and good looking products. I was going to get either Borla or Corsa because I heard they have no drone and that is why they have the price point that they do. however a live chat employee told me that the Kooks brand would give me the same sound and no drone for a fraction of the price. I decided to trust his advice and I am certainly glad that I did it should definitely sound like this from the factory. I'm very happy with the quality, the finish, the look and the sound that this system makes. Of course there is sound when you press the gas but driving on the highway is quiet. I would buy again.

            Kook's on a Boss Laguna

Added the Kook's axle back to my '13 BOss LS. Install was simple and direct, there are a few helpful hints on the web such as to pull the mid-pipes to help and/or drop the hangers. I had to do both on the Driver's side, but still simple. Sound is WAY deep and throaty, but I added for the ~29#'s weight savings and a bit more open exhaust so I could delete the Boss side pipes...a bit high school those side pipes for me. WIth side pipes pulled saved 40#'s or more. For those of potential concern...I do track my car and go to Laguna Seca on 90db days. I was VERY concerned this might be an issue, but it passed no problem.

            Nice compromise

Initially purchased Flowmaster Outlaws and they sounded awesome, but embarrassingly loud. AM was helpful in recommending the Kooks. Beautifully crafted. Felt lazy after I installed the outlaws so I went to Midas and they did a fine job. Best feature is the rumble at idle, otherwise pretty tame but satisfying. The kooks look much better then the outlaws, IMHO.

            Good product

I didn't buy from AM but won this axleback in a contest along with over the axle pipes. This exhaust paired with an offload h pipe is amazing. Deep and mellow sound all throughout the RPM range. Deeper than the gt500 axle backs and my exhaust flows a lot better with these installed as well. It has a nasty growl when you step on it and I highly recommend this product

            Great low rumble

They sound very good, give the low rumble I was looking for without being overpowering. Not to bad to install, just wish I knew about the need to drop the pan head bar to get the stock mufflers out. So if your doing them make sure you look up how to do that or you'll never get them out.

            Exceptional quality

I have always heard KOOKS products were very good, and I was not disappointed at all with this axle-back. Very high quality and I could not ask for a better fit and finish. Its not the loudest axle-back out there, but it is perfect if you have plans to remove the factory resonators, or install an offroad midpipe.

Kooks axel back on 2012 Boss 302 LS

Easy install. Looks much better, Sounds great and much lighter that factory. Only thing that would make it a 5 for 5 on bang for buck is to include exhaust clamps to avoid reusing the factory clamps. Still a great value for the money.

            Deep muscle car sound

I spent days researching watching videos and reading reviews. I decided to go with Kooks because of the reputation they have, and the sound on a few videos. They took maybe 45 min to install very straight forward, perfect fit! At first start up to idle they have a nice low and deep sound, not crazy loud but definitely enough to know the sound is coming from a 5.0. At wide open throttle these come to life!! Cruising at highway speed there is no drone. I am very happy with these, I didn't want the ricer sound that a lot of axle backs have and these definitely do not. True mustang sound!!! Well worth the money the welds are true craftsmanship you can not go wrong with Kooks!

            Good and Bad....

Installed this axe-back on my '12 GT. Sounds great at start up, very deep! When revving lightly(1-2K) before taking off, it sounds great! There is a nice rumble and deep tone! Deceleration also sounds awesome! My only complaint is at WOT, the sound seems to noticeably drown out. If WOT was louder, it would be the perfect exhaust! Looks like I'm going to switch to the Flowmaster Outlaw.

Best axle-back exhaust for the 5.0 - Period!

I've owned over a dozen Mustangs in the last 20+ years with tons of modifications being made to each one. Exhaust sound and look has always been a big deal to me, and I can honestly say the Kooks axle back is by far my favorite exhaust to date. The fit and finish is superb and the sound is amazing, not too loud, but just right, and no noticable drone. Installation is also breeze if you know your way around a car. I would definitly recommend this exhaust to anyone who wants their 5.0 to sound as bad as it looks. Kooks is more expensive than some, but the quality is well worth it.
