All Looks -- no growl
Not the sound I was hoping for. These are super DEEP like a freakin' tuba -- not the old school muscle car deep/rumble I was aiming for. And when you nail the gas they go quiet -- that's the worst part. Could be good for in town driving near the "man" I suppose. Very little drone which is a plus.Helpful (7)

Put it on my 2012 boss. Added volume isn't that noticeable if your side pipes are open unless you're wot or in a tunnel for example. Way lighter and look 100x better than stock. Nice fit nice quality.Helpful (5)

Like others searching for mufflers, I spent several hours listening to exhaust sound clips. My main focus was trying to find mufflers that would not be extremely loud. I was trying to decide between the ford sport, ford touring, or kooks axle back. The kooks axle back to me is slightly louder than stock. (exhaust sound is so subjective) It is a lot deeper at start up than stock. The kooks mufflers will growl more if you get the rpm(s) up. (still not loud). At cruise speeds they get quiet as stock. Minimal to no drone. On my vehicle everything is stock except for the mufflers, so I'm sure you can make the mufflers louder if needed. Install took about 45 minutes at the muffler shop. A little pricey for exhaust I'd say that is just a slightly louder than stock, but id rather have them a little too quiet rather than too loud. Overall, I'm satisfied and I like the deep/growl sound. The mufflers are deeper in person than the sound clips. Kooks mufflers keeps the car sounding nice....My 5.0 sounds a lot meaner now....GROWWWWLLLLLHelpful (8)

Exactly what i wanted
so i had the flowmaster outlaws which sounded great at WOT but they droned like nothing I had ever heard, so I ended up getting the Kooks and what a difference, they have a great start up tone and a decent sound with light revs. When driving down the road they have a nice steady rumble that wont make you go deaf but will definitely catch some attention. I would highly recommend these to anyone that wants a nice rumble. Finally WOT could be a little louder but I am happy with my purchase, always room to make them a little bit louder with other exhaust mods or engine.Helpful (6)

Kooks axle back sound growl!
Installed these Kooks axle back on My '13 BOSS 302 because I heard them on another BOSS and they sounded tough. If you want that deep, throaty growl go with these! No drone either and much lighter than stock. Beautifully crafted stainless pieces to boot.Helpful (6)

Great axle back exhaust
Kooks axle back exhaust was a great choice for me and my 2014 Mustang GT. I read a lot of reviews and listened to a lot of sound clips. I didn't want something crazy loud and I didn't want any drone on the highway. The Kooks axle back provided a deep exhaust tone during idle and a noticable difference during acceleration from stock and no drone cruising at highway speeds. I've gotten many compliments on the way they sound. The overall construction was great, almost to pretty to put under the car. Installation was a breeze.Helpful (7)
Stuck between two choices. I like these and the flowmaster outlaws. I like these looks better, but sound is more important to me than looks. The outlaws sound deeper than these just from online searches I mean. Anyone here familiar with both. I like loyd but not obnoxious. But I'm afraid this are more high pitch then deep. Can you help me out please. Thanks
Although I've never owned the Outlaws, I have had the Hushpowers, which is considerably quieter. That being said, I personally feel that the Outlaws would be too loud for a daily driver unless that's what you like - LOUD - all the time. The Hushpowers had a sort of deep tone, yet not near as deep in my opinion as the Kooks. I really didn't like the glasspack-type sound that the Hushpowers produced off-idle and above. They were very bubbly sounding to me. Not so with the Kooks system, just real muscle car sound. I believe the Outlaws, being a smaller muffler, would have to be much louder and tend to sound even more glasspack-like - popping, etc. Hope this helps!
Can these be paired with the BBK X-pipe #56112
Yes, this axle-back kit will essentially work with any x-pipe setup as there isn't a direct connection between the two. They will connect to the intermediate pipes/over-axle pipes which sit between them.
Are they chambered or straight flow mufflers?
The Kooks Performance Axle-Back Exhaust (11-14 GT) will have a straight flow design.
How do these compare to Magnaflow Street Axle Backs??
They are both pretty comparable in terms of sound, but quality-wise Kooks takes the cake. However, keep in mind you are comparing good to great, Magnaflow is still solid.
I am interested in purchasing an axel-back exhaust system for my 2014 GT 5.0. I want a deep throat guttural sound when idling and traveling at normal speeds. I don't race it and I don't want any pops or back fires. Is Kooks Performance Axle-Back Exhaust the best system to purchase?
Kooks Exhaust systems are designed to give you a deep throaty muscle car tone. This system gives you a terrific mix of agrressiveness and performance.
No Hp gains from axle backs unless you have done a ton of supporting mods, even then is extremely small. maybe 1-2hp at the most.
