    Review & Installation Video

Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I have with me the Pypes Mid Muffler Cat-Back exhaust system fitting all 2005-2010 Mustang GTs. The biggest benefit of going with a mid muffler setup is the elimination of any possible drone, which can be especially problematic on automatic cars. This is made possible thanks to the muffler location and the longer tailpipes. Taking a closer look at the Cat-Back itself you’ll notice right away it’s very similar to Pypes’ Pype Bomb Cat-Back exhaust – both systems use the M80 muffler, and both systems also use 2.5” mandrel bent stainless steel tubing throughout. Where the kits differ is the tips – where the Pype Bomb uses those massive 4” megaphone style resonated tips, this kit uses a more traditional style 4” tip. Because of all this you can still expect a very aggressive exhaust note out of the system. Installation of this new Cat-Back really shouldn’t be all that bad, removing the factory setup first and then getting this Pypes Cat-Back bolted on should take you about 2 hours from start to finish. Now let’s hear how the Pypes Mid Muffler Cat-Back exhaust sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

Increase in Performance and Sound. Bolting on a Pypes Mid Muffler Cat-Back to a stock 2005 to 2010 GT will yield an instant 5 to 10 horsepower gain. It features two of Pypes M-80 Bullet Mufflers for the ultimate in flow and power gains and a deeper throaty tone.

Aggressive Throaty Sound. The Pypes Mid Muffler Cat-Back features two high flow straight-through M-80 Bullet Mufflers that are mounted directly after the Mid Pipe to produce the aggressive deep throaty muscle car tone of yesteryear.

Quality Materials. This Pypes Cat-Back Exhaust system is constructed from free flowing mandrel bent 2.5" 409 Stainless Steel tubing and features two Pypes M-80 Bullet straight-through mufflers for an aggressive throaty sound. The whole system is finished off with a set of 4" Polished 304 Stainless Steel tips for modern Muscle Car styling.

Application. The Pypes Mid Muffler Cat-Back Exhaust kit is specifically designed to simply bolt-on to the existing factory H-Pipe of the 2005 to 2010 4.6L GT or Bullitt Mustang for more power and a louder more aggressive sound.

Technical Note: Americanmuscle recommends adding the 2005+ Mustang 304 Stainless Steel Exhaust Hanger Kit from the drop down option above, to provide more strength, stability and a cleaner installed appearance. If you have a 2007 Mustang you may need the kit for correct installation.

My 2006 Mustang GT has Magnaflow aftermarket exhaust. The car is bone stock except for the mufflers. It has a terrible drone around 1800-2000 rpms. I would like to get rid of this drone. I don't really care how loud the exhaust sounds..the V8 always sounds good. Are these Pypes Mid-flow mufflers they way to cure the drone?

        • The Pypes Mid-Muffler Cat-Back Exhaust will have significant amounts of drone, especially on automatic Mustangs.

If someone wanted to remove the mid mufflers for a direct straight pipe exhaust where you replace the mid mufflers with a metal pipe, is that possible? I just wanted to double check

        • You certainly could do so! You receive the kit of course in pieces to then install all together. Simply just leave out the mid-muffler during your install, and make sure you have either done the measurements or find a good exhaust shop to fill the gap appropriately.

Will this work with stock headers for my 2010 mustang GT convertible or do I need to upgrade them?

        • This cat-back exhaust will bolt up directly to the factory h-pipe without any issues.

I have Varex X-force Mufflers (Axle Back) for my 2008 Mustang GT and was wondering if the Pypes Mid-Muffler Cat-Back Exhaust would be compatible with this axle back or any other Axle Backs from any other brands of Axle Backs

        • As long as the exhaust tubing is the same size, we don'tsee why the axle back and cat back tubing wouldn't bolt up. You may have to make some modifications depending on the exhausts you choose to bolt together.

I have Pypes Long Tubes with an o/r h pipe, how would this sound with that combo. Would there be a lot of drone? Would it be crazy loud?

        • The Pypes Mid-Muffler Cat-Back Exhaust uses straight through, resonator style mufflers, and will be very loud with significant amounts of drone, especially when combined with an off road mid pipe.

I love the exhaust note from this system. It, along with the Pypes after cat x pipe, and LTH, gives a higher pitched more mellow tone than the MBRP's that they replaced; not saying anything bad about the MBRP's. The two pipes that connected to the mid pipe had to be welded in place because they were not flared to slip on; this being the only thing that frustrated me about the install. It is a beautiful system, with an intoxication tone, especially on acceleration. I would do it again if I had another S197.

Mid pipe M80 great exhaust note

The Pypes mid pipe cat back has a great finish and sound amazing paired with off road x pipe but the fit leaves a little to be desired as they could have made the pipes just a pinch longer so it would go together a little better I had to move some of the pipes around to get them all to fit properly if only 1 of any of the pipes would have been about 1/4 to 3/8 of a inch longer this would have fit perfectly with that being said I am extremley happy with the sound quality and loudness of this system

            Wouldnt purchase again

Tail pipes fit poorly, not even at all, not even worth modifying, better off building a mid muffler system on your own. Sustem needs a rethink and a quality improvement.

Packaged well, seems to be good quality, and looks good once installed. Installation was easy as all parts fit as they should. Lining it all up so it didn’t rub and so it was somewhat centered on bumper was a different story. Since it is in 4 pieces (3 with bends) slight twists in a pipe change the whole geometry downstream. 2 hrs to install initially, but had to walk away to sleep on it. Fresh eyes the next morning helped to adjust the pipes so they lined up OK. Pass side still isn’t perfect in bumper, but I’ll live. Sounds good! Just what I was looking for for the convertible with two car seats. :-)

            Great Value

They sound good at the 3000 RPM plus range, would like a little more sound at an idle. Going down the highway there is no extra sound in the car if anything a little less sound. As for the install they look great once i readjusted them for an hour to get the tips in the same place. And the one thing it doesn't say, is you need to cut out the old exhaust if you are on jack stands in the drive way instead of a car lift.

            Worth every penny!

I just installed these on my 2010 GT a week ago (took more time to take the stock ones off than to put these on) and I couldn't be happier! They offer a sweet deep throaty sound that's louder than stock, but not overbearing or hurts my ears. If you're looking to give your car a beauty sound and still want to keep the price down then this system will suit your needs.

            Sounds great

This was a simple install, harder to remove old exhaust. Would have been 5 stars but the hangers on the tailpipes do not line up very evenly without modifications, other than that great product and sound with long tubes and h-pipe

            Great sound added performance

The Pypes mid muffler catback system is a great exhaust system for the money, just a little louder then the stock exhaust from Ford until you pin the ears back on that pony, then he exhaust comes alive. The install however was not as easy as I thought, had to manipulate the exhaust several times to get it not to touch the under body of the car, eventually I was able to make this happen to my liking.

            Great sound, pretty easy install

Installed on my 07 Gt. My car had some ghetto home made/welded SLP Resonator axleback mutant on it from the previous owner. I figured I needed to fix that since I had already upgraded everything else on my car and that mutant sounded hideous with my Pypes O/R X-pipe. Let me tell you, these Mid-Mufflers did the trick. I didn't have any of the alignment issues I read about and the install by myself took about 45 minutes. Just make sure to put your car on 4 jack stands and let the rear axle hang for more room. Overall this system sounds so great and gets rid of the horrid trumpeting sound I was having. I had no clearance issues and both mufflers cleared the drive shaft by a good inch. Granted, if you have an aftermarket one piece, you may have some clearance issues. My only regret was I didn't splurge for the blacked out tips on my blacked out car.
