    Review & Install Video

I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and this is our breakdown of BBK’s Long tube ceramic headers for the 2005-2010 Mustang GT. Long tubes completely replace those ultra restrictive cast iron manifolds, which can really choke out the flow of exhaust. Adding a set of long tubes along with an aftermarket mid pipe and exhaust will make for a really free flowing setup that will free up some extra horsepower and torque. These headers from BBK are going to be pretty much middle of the road in terms of average price, figuring you have a company like PaceSetter on the lower side of things, and companies like JBA and Cook’s on the higher side of the spectrum. However, one of the things that will separate these headers from BBK from the competition is the ceramic coating. That ceramic coating will offer a couple of different benefits, first is performance, ceramic coatings dissipate heat a lot better than a stainless header, which will make for a slight performance edge, and will help keep the engine bay a little bit cooler as well, which is always a good thing. Second, these headers will offer a little bit more durability and longevity than a chrome plated header or a stainless header. The final benefit is going to be appearance. I know it’s not all that important since these headers aren’t completely visible from the engine bay, however that ceramic coating is going to keep that nice bright silver color throughout their life whereas a chrome or stainless header tends to change color as they heat cycle, which some people like, others may not. Another thing, this ceramic coating is going to be a lot easier to keep clean as well. Taking a closer look at the headers themselves, you’ll notice pretty good welds down here at the collector, as well as pre welded O2 sensor bungs. The headers also feature 1 and 5/8” mandrel bent tubing, which should really help that exhaust flow. Finally, you’ll notice this laser cut flanges for an OEM type fit, which won’t allow any leaking. Installing any set of long tube headers can be a little intense, so if you don’t think you have the mechanical know how to get this job done, then you might want to leave this one up to the shop. However if you are going to tackle the job, you’ll be happy to know that these headers do include all the hardware and necessary gaskets, but just leave yourself a full day, just to be safe. Keep in mind whenever you run a set of long tube headers like these BBKs, you will need to address your mid pipe. In this case, you will need to run a flanged end shorty mid pipe, just to get everything bolted up properly. BBK recommends running their shorty X-pipe, just for the best fitment, and for the best performance gains. So if you’re looking for a set of headers at a very fair price, that will offer all the performance of a set of long tubes, plus the added benefits of a ceramic coating, then these headers from BBK are definitely worth checking out.

More Horsepower and Torque.   Improve the performance of your S197 Mustang with a set of BBK Long Tube Headers. These BBK ceramic coated headers will greatly improve your mustangs exhaust flow over the restrictive factory manifolds and increase your Pony's horsepower and torque. Increases of 14 to 22 RWHP have been seen when installed with a BBK shorty X pipe.

Silver Ceramic Coating. These Long Tube Headers are completed in BBK's Polished Silver Ceramic Coating that not only looks great, but reduce under hood temperatures to help increase horsepower and extend the life of the headers. Ceramic Coated headers will long out last both chrome plated and polished headers.

Quality Construction.   BBK Long Tube Exhaust headers are manufactured from 1 5/8" CNC mandrel bent tubing for unrestricted airflow. And feature one piece laser cut 3/8" header flanges for added strength, leak-free performance and OEM fit. These headers are then completed in a polished ceramic finish for good looks and to lower under hood temperatures.

Recommended Upgrade. To realize the full power potential that these Long Tube Headers have to offer, AmericanMuscle recommends a Bama custom tune with a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU) for proper operation.

Application. These Ceramic Long Tube Headers are designed to fit the manual and automatic transmissions 2005-2010 GT Mustangs. BBK long tube headers require a flanged end shorty midpipe in order to function properly. BBK recommends using a BBK shorty X-Pipe for the best performance gains (see drop down option above).

Technical notes. Not legal for use on pollution controlled motor vehicles; intended for off road use only. A BBK shorty Mid Pipe are required for installation.

Over Axle Pipe Unfortunately my first upgrade was just the axle back mufflers...so no piping up to the cats. I just ordered the Long tube headers and Catted shortys. I guess this will connect to my stock over axle piping connecting to my flowmasters. Will this stock piping negate the effects of the headers? Where can I order the over axle piping?

    • I put BBK long tube headers and catted X pipe on my car as well. The catted X pipe bolted directly to the existing exhaust so no additional changes were needed.

I'm thinking about getting these bbk headers just wondering if anyone had problems with breaking the manifold studs

    Chris

    • When installing the BBK 1-5/8 in. Ceramic Long Tube Headers, care should be taken with removing the studs. It is not common to break studs, but it is common. We do recommend soaking the studs in PB Blaster, or an equivalent penetrating oil to ensure the studs and nuts come out smoothly.

Is the ceramic coating on both the outside and inside of these headers?

What type of gaskets come with these headers? One of the reviews said they would burn through prematurely I'm wondering if I should buy a different set of gaskets.

Do I have to weld these on my aluminum off road bbk x pipe ? And how can I easily install these ?

    ArturoB

    • The BBK 1-5/8 in. Ceramic Long Tube Headers will bolt directly to the Off Road BBK Shorty X-Pipe. These will not work with full length X pipes designed for the stock manifolds or shorty headers.

      Quality welds

Have not installed yet because I can decide if I want the carted xpipe or off road x. Reason being I already have an slp loudmouth muffler delete and I have heard it is to loud with longtube and no cats. I have looked these headers up and down and I am very pleased with the quality of the welds and the fact they were on my doorstep in 2 days. Thanks AM, I will keep you posted.

This is how a Mustang was supposed to sound

Put together with the BBK catted X pipe this shiny headers made my Stang sound amazing without being overwhelming, got nothing else than compliments and head turning when i step on the Gas. Took about 5 hours to install in the shop but i left the car for 1 day making sure everything was right. Shawn from Bama performance was amazingly patient by helping me download the custom tune needed right over the phone. I will certainly suggest this product as a buy to any Mustang owner.

      BBK headers!!!

I took a lot of headers into consideration before landing on these! But after landing on these I AM SO GLAD I DID! Over all amazing fit! Really looks good under the hood! Smooth install, had them installed at a shop, less than 150 to install!

Good power gain, exhaust note trade off

First and foremost I feel a SIGNIFICANT power upgrade since having these installed. I have a CAI, TB, and intake manifold so I'm sure those helped get the most out of these longtubes. I had these installed on my 06 GT that, at the time, already had a roush catback and pypes off road x pipe. I loved the loud, in your face exhaust sound it made. After getting these bbk long tubes and shorty x pipe installed, I've found my car has a much deeper tone, but is also quieter. When you punch it, it's still earsplitting, but it definitely toned down the noise level when driving around town which disappointed me. All in all though I think the power gains are worth it.

      Give the extra bolt!

These are some very nice Headers. My only bone to pick with BBK is that they need to step up and own that the don't give you a bolt that will actually fit without modification to the bolt. Other than that great buy!!! AM maybe you guys can be angles and added that extra bolt in and do BBK a solid!!

Love these exhaust manifolds by bbk

One bolt on the drivers side, second exhaust port closest to the fire wall, on the bottom needed to have the bolt ground down other then that perfect fit. And some awkward positioning with your hands fitting in around stuff if you're laying on your back. Also chuck the gaskets they give you because They will prematurely burn through and you'll end up with a pesky exhaust leak. Use the original exhaust manifold gasket or buy the exact replacement (new) and put those on. Super happy with the product! It shouldn't have taken as long as it did but I took my time to insure a great install

      3v longtubes

came in the mail right on time like usual from AM. Me and a buddy did the install in about ten hours in my driveway. Wasn't to hard, you just have to be patient and follow the instructions. Car sounds insane backed by the O/R x and outlaws. Headers are for sure worth the money. And do it yourself and save 600-1000 bucks in labor.

Don't go shorty go right to long tube

Ran shorty headers for 2 years didn't get the sound I wanted these will give the sound and performance you are looking for. When I removed BBK shorty headers gasket that came with them had cracks in 5 spots with new headers I bought metal gaskets better than paper. If you want to turn your car into the beast she was meant to be buy these. I use Ford Racing mufflers JLT cai and a Bama tune she is now bad to the bone top end power you better hold on !

      Bad for emissions test

I love my BBK headers and catted x pipe. With my bama tune great power upgrade getting 304 hp and 316 tr to the ground. My problem is I can't pass emissions test . Tune guys are telling me to go back to stock tune and exhaust to pass .so do I spend 2 day taking them off and putting back on or just take them off for good. This really stinks

I got these headers and an off-road x pipe about 4 months ago. I have no regrets! These are moderately priced headers and they are worth the money! I get compliments and complaints about my exhaust all the time. It sounds like a monster and you feel a pretty good gain on hp!

      Absolutely amazing

I bought these with a very resonable price and plus BBK is my favorite product to use. But the installation price was a little ridiculous because they warned me a few studs would break on the head which would only make it around $740 for installation but 6 studs broke and it ended up costing me $1100 for the installation.
