      Jake here for AmericanMuscle. And today, I'm taking a look at the JBA Performance 1-7/8-Inch Long Tube Headers in the natural finish for 2008 and newer V8 Challengers. If you're looking to beef up the performance chops of your HEMI Challenger, a set of long tube headers should absolutely be on your radar. And these 1-7/8-inch headers from JBA Performance are worth checking out for their unique features, the thoughtful design, the performance gains, the good price point, and, of course, the sound.Now, increasing the length of the path with a volume of airflow on either the intake or exhaust side of an engine can have a noticeable effect on power and power delivery, but nothing quite exemplifies the difference that can make more than a set of long tube headers. Now, we can sit here and debate the long tubes versus short tubes and the differences between different diameters of piping, but that's been done many times over, so we're gonna skip that.The short version of the story is if you're looking for better sound, more airflow, and especially increased high RPM power, long tubes are gonna be your ticket. Now, a few things I do wanna point out before we get into all the details. First is that these headers do require you to tune your car. Since you're changing up the exhaust flow and the location of the oxygen sensors too, you need a tune to get things working together smoothly after you install them.The other thing to note here is that you cannot use your factory midpipes. Due to the nature of their design here, you will need to go with aftermarket midpipes since the stock ones your car comes with will not fit. This is something to be aware of anyway, but especially if you want or need to have catalytic conversion on your car since you're gonna need to explore your aftermarket options for that section.Now, it is worth noting too that we do have a bunch of different options for midpipes for these cars available on our site, so I would encourage you to go ahead and check those out as well. JBA has gone to great lengths to dyno and race-test these headers so that they deliver the best results they can garner throughout the rev range.Again, like I mentioned before, these are 1-7/8-inch diameter piping, they're mandrel bent, and they're stainless steel primaries. So, they're much larger than your factory manifolds. Now, having that extra length versus shorties on your stock manifolds is also gonna help relieve back pressure, which will keep everything flowing nice and smoothly and it contributes to the power gains.The flanges at the top here are 3/8 of an inch thick and they're laser-cut to prevent against leaks and warping. The exhaust ports on here, as you can see, are also significantly larger than your stock manifolds, which again, is gonna provide better exhaust flow. Now, everything comes together down in their patented Firecone collectors at the base of the header here, which is specifically designed for enhanced exhaust gas scavenging. And again, that's just gonna promote better exhaust flow.The other thing worth noting about these collectors is that they are actually noticeably longer than some of the other options out there on the market. So, again, that's just gonna help with flow and bring everything together nice and smoothly down here. Now, these have a natural finish, so they're not coated, but they are stainless steel. So, they're gonna develop what JBA calls a performance patina over time, meaning that they're gonna get that cool purplely blue heat cycled look, which is gonna look awesome when you pop the hood.And, of course, being stainless steel means that they're gonna withstand the elements, so rust and corrosion won't be an issue either. Now, JBA also did something smart with the fitment here in that these are also designed to fit lower cars. So, they're built in such a way that this part, the collector here, is gonna stay tucked inside of the frame rails once it's installed. So, even if your car is really low, these aren't gonna drag on the ground and create issues.Then, of course, we also have the sound. And, yes, the power is nice, but the noise is really where it's at when it comes to headers. Now, long tubes are known to bring that loud, aggressive muscle car sound. And these are, of course, no exception. You're going to get a noticeable difference in sound, even if you're running catted midpipes or even a stock cat-back. It's gonna be loud, so just prepare yourself for that.But if you wanna keep a lid on things to some extent, again, you can run those catted mids and your stock exhausts. But, of course, these do pair nicely with aftermarket cat-backs too. Price-wise, these are gonna run you about $825. And that does put them towards the less expensive end of the spectrum when it comes to long tube headers. But that doesn't mean you're sacrificing.Though you aren't getting midpipes included in the kit, these are still a really high-quality item and they come with all the hardware gaskets and even the O2 sensor extensions that you need to get everything installed. So, if you're looking for the benefits of long tubes without blowing out the budget, I'd say that these are an excellent option for you.Now, on that note, we do need to talk about install. Not pulling any punches here, doing headers is not an easy job. These are gonna get a three out of three on our difficulty meter, and you should plan on it taking you the better part of a full day to do this job. Now, like I mentioned, all the hardware and the new gaskets are included in the box. This is gonna test the metal of your toolbox and your skillset. It is absolutely an involved job, especially if you don't have access to a lift because, well, access can be an issue from underneath the car.Of course, asking your preferred shop or mechanic to install these for you is always an option. And in a case like this, if you're not really comfortable diving in that deep, professional installation is gonna be your best bet. But as with most things, though, if you have the skillset, the toolbox, and, of course, the time, you can do this yourself, I just like to make people aware of how involved of a job it is before they attempt it because there's really nothing worse than getting wrapped up in something and realize that you're probably not gonna be able to complete it.Well, that's gonna wrap it up here for our review of the JBA Performance 1-7/8-Inch Long Tube Headers in the natural finish for 2008 and newer V8 Challengers.       Description

      Deletes Factory Catalytic Converters. Due to their design, these headers will delete your factory catalytic converters. To maintain proper emission levels, it is suggested that you install a compatible catted mid-pipe with this header.
